For me it depends on the Anime. If its a great series I may not care about how long it is... but if it is too long (Like DBZ) then I steer clear of it. I guess average length (30-40 eps, right?) is good for me. The only long anime's I like are Inuyasha and... cant think of another long one I like, oh well. :! _________________

Hey Mugen, doesn't Yugioh count as a long series. Same with Yuyu. I know you like those two and you can try to deny it but fail miserably.
I prefer medium and short animes. NGE, FLCL, Onegai Senai, Rockmnan EXE Stream(technically its own series.) and of course Gundam Seed. They rule, as for the longer ones I like Inu Yasaha, YuYu hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin(something like 99 episodes.)
Depends on the genre, plot, its execution not it's legnth. But usually if it gets too long then it gets too stretched out and can lose focus. IMO that is. |

Typically, my preference is the short or medium-length anime. There are lengthy anime series that I enjoy, like Inuyasha, but long-term anime tends to have a lot of filler, and that can really interfere with the storyline. Short and medium anime not only keeps the story going, but it also tends to have a better budget to spend on the visual aspects, and I like lookin' at pretty stuff. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

Agreed. Endings in general make me emo.XD I guess this is because it is just SO hard to make a good conclusion that will please everyone. Sometimes a melancholy or open-ended ending is more proper; other times, a happy, everybody-wins ending is better. THere are very few endings that I actually like, and those aren't even for anime.
Little off topic here, but I feel like I need to say this. I'm not the biggest Dragonball fan evarz, but despite the bad rep that DBZ seems to get because it is so long, it really is decent for something that ran for years and years. Especially when it comes to the manga. It was just so damn popular; it's not like Akira Toriyama could have predicted it'd get so out of hand.
Even with the not-so-nice pressures from his editors, Akira Toriyama managed to still produce quality. Yes, he would keep adding newer and more powerful super-villains each time(which naturally gets old after a while), but each arc had its own share of diverse interesting characters, crazy precarious situations, as well as good character development. Because of the horrible dub (and I'm usually very tolerant of dubs) everyone seems to see Dragonball as nothing but a bunch of macho guys looking constipated for five episodes and then beating the snot out of each other. It really is more that...problem is you have to watch a whole lot of it to see and appreciate that.
Also remember, DBGT does not count for anything. Toei totally made that. _________________ I will power my Ultra Mega Planet Destroyer Machine with your knee jerk reflexes. You laugh at me now...but just you wait. You better watch yourselves. |

I prefer average. Simple and balanced not going into the extreme sides like too short or too long. _________________

It depends on the genre of the anime. With a very strong plot (detective story for example), it has to be short so it can be very efficient. But for a fantastic story, average length can be better, so a short background/mythology can take place.
Long ones... It you follow it since the beginning, you have to wait. I you discover it when it already has many episodes, it can be hard to find all the past ones.
But no matters the length... The manga version is often better than the adaptation ! _________________ KnightSoul will protect you |
