It's been over a year since I last touched the game and I've finally decided I want to beat the tar out of Bass before scavenging yon local Toys R Us for BN3. Yeesh... Please forgive me if I ask too much, since I've forgotten a majority of where every Navi, virus and area is.
Anyway. As I understand it, you need all v3 chips of all the Navis EXCEPT the ones in the WWW areas (which I also need to rediscover how to actually get there...) to get to Napalmman. I've already met the requirements for Astroman (206/250). Here are the chips I don't have:
Shadowman v3
Magnetman v3
Freezeman v3
Here's what I'm asking:
Where can they be found?
What's an effective strategy for them?
Here's my folder:
FireBlade R
FireBlade *
FireBlade *
AquaBlade R
AquaBlade *
AquaBlade *
ElecBlade *
ElecBlade *
ElecBlade *
ElecBlade *
MagBomb2 B
ZeusHamr Z
TimeBomb3 Z
Recov300 R
AreaGrab * (default)
AreaGrab*
FstGauge *
Invis3 *
Invis3 *
Invis3 *
Invis3 *
PopUp I
PopUp I
BblWrap R
Atk +30 *
Roll v3 R
ProtoMan v3 B
ProtoMan v3 B
QuickMan v3 *
ToadMan v3 T
My Styles:
AquaCustom v2
HeatShield v3
Everything else is maxed out, obviously. If this is too much to ask, again, my apologies, but I do want to square off against Bass sometime in my life. _________________ Hmm... Defenestration is such a fun word. |

Your folder is a standard LifeSword3-based strategy that centers on dealing damage fast.
Some suggestions on the folder.
1) Add more AreaGrab *. You need a lot to draw them and deal 600 damage with them consistently.
2) Add many FullCust *. You are NOT limited to a singleton copy, so load up on them. They are free turns. Utilize them.
3) Set FastGuage * as your regular. It will reduce the time you take per turn and let you draw fast.
For navis, I suggest loading up on ToadMan3. One of the best damn Navi Chips in the game. 180 damage and a paralysis effect helps keep them held where you want them so a LifeSword3 can cleave through the rest. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! lesse... Magnetman V3 is in Uranet... 2 I think it was, Shadowman V3 is in Uranet 5, and Freezeman V3 is in Uranet 7, and well... For beating them...
Fastest way I can think to S them is Toadman cheesing, especially effective on Freezeman basically
Get a folder with a ton of Fullcust, IceStage, Toadman V3, Attack +20/30, and Elec +40, it will cheese the living SNOT out of just about every boss in the game. ToadmanV3+ Elec +40's on Freezeman is really nasty. That's 220-340 damage right there, x2 since Freezeman's Aqua Element, making 440-680, and then x2 since you fight him on all ice panels, so 880-1360, but the really fun part comes from the fact that Toady paralyzes, so get in a Toad hit on ice stage with a few attack amps and a steady stream of Fullcusts and you'll shave off their HP REAL quick
And you'd do best using a Custom Style, preferably Elec, since it also combos well with Icestage, although Aqua is quite sufficient as well. Ah, yess, that reminds me, you might not wanna stack 5 of everything in that folder and include a couple of Repair chips so you don't get screwed by your own ice |

All right, thank you for the suggestions, Midnight Critic. Just a couple questions, though:
Where would one obtain more FullCust * and AreaGrab *? Right now I'm thinking of removing BblWrap R, MagBomb2 B and TimeBomb 3 and removing Quickman v3 * and Roll v3 R for Toadman.
Also, would you recommend that I keep PopUp I? With the Invis3 there it's probably a bit excessive to have those in addition to Invis3.
Thank you for the locations, Phantomman.EXE. Yikes, I really need to brush up on memory... I'll keep your strategy and folder suggestion in mind.
Hm, time to get reaquainted with the chip trader... _________________ Hmm... Defenestration is such a fun word. |

Your folder reminds me of mine, so this shouldn't be too hard to modify.
First, get rid of Recov300 and Roll. Half of the point of S-Ranking is to not get hit, thus healing is not an option.
You have 5 different codes, not including *. Try using only 1 or 2 sets.
Use FullCustom as your default. That way, you can get 2 turns instantly. You can buy 3 FullCustoms in Undernet 1.
For Freezeman: Get 5 Toadman V3 in your folder. Only 2 is needed to delete him.
For Shadowman: For me, I used BubbleWrap to avoid the explosion attack that Shadowman does with his 2 copies. I had 3 LifeSword3 and 5 ProtomanV3. Not to mention a 2xHero just in case. He's pretty easy really.
For Magnetman: You need a lot of defense. Try getting at least 6 chips like Invis or Shadow. Most importantly, have a couple GrassLine or IceLine to get rid of the MagLine.
Here's my folder if it helps.
3 FireBlade R
3 AquaBlade R
3 ElecBlade R
3 Invis3 *
2 BubbleWrap R
3 AreaGrab *
3 FullCustom * (default)
3 FastGauge *
1 CustSword B
1 VarSword B
5 ProtomanV3 B
Of couse, depending on the situation, I made a few changes. For Freezeman, I took out all ProtomanV3 and replaced them with ToadmanV3.
This folder should do very well against Shadowman.
For Magnetman, I removed 2 PrototmanV3 and replaced them with Shadow1 R. I also took out a few others to make room for GrassLine. _________________

While I can't help on folder-building, I can help you get those V3 chips you need.
ShadowMan can be found in UnderNet 5, but you'll need to go to UnderNet 6 before you can fight him. Go into area 6 and go to the lowest level. The teleporter there will take you on a path back to area 5, but now you'll be in the large U-shaped area in the center. ShadowMan can be found on the left side of the center area.
MagnetMan can be found in UnderNet 2. Go along the path that would take you to the UnderSquare, but after you reach the lowest level, take a right until the path takes you under the ramps, and MagnetMan can be found at the end of the path.
FreezeMan is all the way in UnderNet 7. He's easy to find, just take a left after you enter area and keep going till you reach a dead-end.
Now, the easiest way to get an S rank (which will almost always get you the V3 chip) is to not get hit. Well, not get hit and end the battle in under 30 seconds. From looking at your folder, I see you have LifeSword3 3 times and some AreaGrabs, which is good. You'll want to preset the FastGauge, though, because it'll make meeting the under 30 second mark easier. The best thing you can do is use atleast 1 AreaGrab, use the Invis to keep you from getting hit, and attacking with LifeSword3 whenever you can. All 3 attacks can just about kill any boss (1800 damage total), so use whatever you need to get the boss' HP lower than 1800, then ditch everything else to get the parts of the PAs as quickly as possible. If the LifeSwords aren't doing it for you, you can always try the Gater PA, which can do up to 1500 damage (with Attack+s). That requires Wind, Fan, and GateMan.
Oo, also, your AquaCustom style will be best for winning the battles. More chips means the better your odds of getting all the chips you need ASAP.
Unless you can get the V3 chip on the first try, which is highly unlikely, you'll need to meet the bosses again, right? A little trick for quickly getting a rematch is to, after you fight them, use a LockEnemy and SneakRun subchip in that order, then save your game. Run around the area until you encounter a battle; if it's not the boss or your SneakRun wears off, reset the game and try again. Though it does take some time, it'll get you another battle alot faster than if you just ran around the area normally.
The absolute best way to kill bosses is with the BodyGuard PA, which summons ShadowMan to bombard your enemies with 14 shuriken, each doing 100 damage. To get it, though, you'll need 1 of each of ShadowMan's chips, an extra ShadowMan chip, AntiDamage S and Dropdown S. You can get AntiDamage by giving the little kid on the plane 1 of each of ShadowMan's chips. And you can get DropDowns from Popper3s in WWW area 2. Use them in order of DropDown, AntiDamage, and ShadowMan to unleash the killer PA. Add on some Attack+s and this is a PA that can kill any boss instantly. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

Good choices. The best discourse would be to use the Gospel Dupe and duplicate yourself as many copies of the chips as you please. The BMD that contains the sole AreaGrab * is in a Gospel Server close to the end scenario, so that should be relatively easy to find. And as pointed out before, the FullCust * can be purchased in Under1, and can be duped as well.

Five or less Invis3 * should suffice. Since you are bent on causing damage fast, there is no need for excessive defensive chips. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks!
