I'm going to make this brief. You see, I was wondering if anybody would explain to me how the PET of Stream works. I need the info so that I would understand the series a little better. Well, that and I need the info for one of my stories. Thank you.

The PET from Stream is the PET3, or Progress PET as far as the games and toys go. It has a holographic touch screen that has a pre loaded folder, so it is similar to the games. A net op can either drag chips from the 5 on the screen(just like cust screen) to their navi, or slot in a battle chip. When ever a chip is dragged a nother chip from the folder replaces it. Well that is the jist of the Chip function. |

The Progress PETs also feature different grips and attatchments that enhance battles. Although some were featured in the new ending, only Laika's attatchment made way onto episode 26. _________________

It's never really explained in the series (actually, how all of the PET devices truly work is never explained), but we can go by assumption from how we see them used through the series.
The PET III, as it is called in the anime (Progress PET in merchandising and possibly the games), features the holographic touch screen as previously mentioned. Plugging-in is still done in the same fashion as the Advanced PET (infrared laser). Then, the holographic screen appears.
It's assumed that the PET III comes with a memory loaded battle chip library, like in the games. 5 seemingly random chips appear on the screen, which the net-operator can drag onto the net navi's body to "slot-in". More than one chip can be dragged at a time. Once a chip is used, a new one takes it's place. I'd assume that the net-operator can slot-in battle chips and then copy the chip data to put into the memory library (i.e. edit and customize the stored chip folder). The net-operator can also just insert battle chips the old fashioned way.
I figure this set-up gives a net-operator two different strategies of net-battling. While drag-and-drop slotting-in with the touch screen is faster, the chip selection is limited and random. Slotting-in the old fashioned way definitely lets you put in any chip you want, but it's slower. (You know, since the net-operator has to dance around every time they put a chip in.)
One of the biggest specifications (and marketting schemes) on the PET III, though, is the attachable accessories. For example, Netto attaches a handle along the bottom of his PET when he plugs-in. Raoul has an attachment (I believe it looks like a two-sided handle grip) that somehow seems to increase navi power. The accessories aren't really used that much throughout the series, but there's tons you can buy for the real Progress PET toy. (They show off a lot of the accessories during the credit sequences in the series, such as the magnifying screen protector w/joystick that they tack onto Enzan's PET during the second credits sequence.) _________________
