Stream #49 - Battle of One Without Bonds - Spoilers

Translation was conversed on my own at 4am in the morning. Anyone who understands better is free to correct any of my mistakes. Spoilers below!

At the past tunnel research facility, Yuuichirou begins his latest experiment. At the giant crater seen in previous episodes, the scientists activate a past tunnel, it's brilliant light shining as a pillar of light into the sky.

30 years in the past, a mechanized probe appears out of a bright flash of light. A video camera upon the probe relays images back to the scientists in present time - the experiment was a success!

As they explore further, a startling discovery is made. A giant craft with the red mark of duo lays still in the dirt. Yuuichirou knows exactly what it is - Duo's comet!

Elsewhere, Netto and Meijin are surveying the damage to the cities via a helicopter. Netto mentions that Ameroupe and Japan were completely ravaged by the Asteroids. Netto asks what his father would want of him, Enzan and Laika, seeing as they've all been summoned to the facility. Meijin relays Yuuichirou's latest research on Duo, and that he needs their help.

Deep in the recesses of the net, Dark Rockman is brooding silently. Dark Rock reflects the moments of his own birth, when Dr. Regal pulled the dark aura from Rockman's body, and gave Dark Rock his own form. He then remembers Netto and Enzan's first meeting with Duo, and their explanation of Cross Fusion as a bond between human and navi. The whole ideal makes Dark Rockman rather sick.

At that same moment, Rockman suddenly gets a very odd feeling himself. What is this strange emotion of sadness he's experiencing?

Dr. Regal's voice calls attention to Dark Rockman, and the brooding navi snaps alert.

Back at the facility, Netto becomes surpised to learn of his father finding Duo's comet inactive on the ground, 30 years in the past. Yuuichirou explains that he believes the comet in the present somehow shot through a past tunnel, and crashed into the ground in the past.

Deep in the net, Dark Rockman absorbs all of the Crests of Duo into himself. Dark Rock remains silent afterwards, causing Regal to ask if anything is wrong. Rock finally asks, "Dr. Regal, why is a bond so important?"

Netto finally asks his father what purpose is it for Duo to go back 30 years in time. Yuuichirou reveals that in that time and age, the network has yet to truly be born. It's Duo's plan to annhilate the network in the past, to prevent the future in which Netto's lives.

A giant rumbling suddenly breaks their conversation - dimensional converters begin to pop up everywhere! As a giant dimensional area dome covers the crater and facility, a pink pillar of light signifies Dr. Regal's entrance before them. When Netto demands to know why he's there, Regal simply states that he needs to plug into their system. He's decided to send Dark Rockman on the task of gathering Duo's power!

Regal begins to emite a strong bright light, which blinds everyone else completely useless. Dark Rockman begins to gather his forces of white blobs to aid him in his journey, while Dr. Regal admits that he wants Duo's technology so he may acheive his long sought dream. After all, being a probe of Duo himself, he deserves first crack at what power Duo beholds.

Now going to 20 years in the past, Barrel senses something has gone amis. He plugs Colonel into a transmister, which is tied directly into the past tunnel. Just then, Regal pronounces himself ready, and shouts at Dark Rockman to fly to Duo's comet! Regal smacks his hand down onto the console, plugging in the evil little navi to do his bidding.

On their journey, Dark Rockman and his army come face to face with Colonel. Dr. Regal laughs in triumph as the dimensional area fades away, taking him with it. After he's gone, Rockman, Blues and Searchman plead with their operators to send them along to. They have to stop Dark Rockman from succeeding!

Meijin confirms Dark Rockman's path in the tunnel, causing Netto to swear. Rockman pleads again to let him go after his evil counterpart. And so, the three stand in the net, right before the gate into the tunnel. Coincidently, Colonel arrives to fight by their side! Barrel also appears on the monitor. Yuuichirou places all of his faith in the four battlers.

All four navis are transmitted directly into the past tunnel, where they begin their long hunt for Dark Rockman. Soon enough, they do run into his little white mutant army, which is determined to slow them down. Rockman defiantely yells "Don't mess with us!" as they each smite down their enemies, and head on their way again. A bright light looms before them - the entrance to Duo's comet. Each navi stares straight ahead as they're enveloped whole.

Galaxies pass before their eyes, as they stand in the darkness of space. This is the cyberworld of Duo's comet. Colonel warns them all to take special care. A sudden shock runs through Rockman's head again - he still can't quite put a finger on its source....until he suddenly remembers his prey, Dark Rockman. Rockman decides that what he feels can't be mistaken - he's completely synchronized with Dark Rockman!

Rock's thoughts are interrupted when lasers suddenly begin to fire in their direction. Netto asks what's happening, and his father explains that they're being attacked by Duo's guard system. Searchman's scope gun, Blues and Colonel's swords, and Rock's buster quickly take out their attackers. However, even more come up from the shadows! Laika warns that they must hurry if they wish to stop Dark Rockman. Barrel tells them to go ahead without him, and Colonel punctuates by using his Screen Divide to clear their way.

Searchman becomes frustrated, demanding to know where Dark Rockman has gone. This time knowing what to do, Rockman uses their link to track down just exactly where his friend is hiding. Rockman charges his buster, and fires a large blast off into space. Sure enough, Dark Rockman and the rest of his army are hit square on. Rockman and Dark Rockman come face to face once again.

Blues and Searchman decide to fight the remainder of his army, while allowing Rockman to fight against Dark Rockman. Rock fires off a few shots from his buster, missing his target every time. Dark Rock thrusts his arm above him, summoning a frightening Dark Sword! Laika's rather disturbed that their opponent is that powerful.

Netto slots in the Custom Sword chip, allowing his navi to duel it out against his foe. As the two are fighting and arguing, Rockman suddenly feels another jolt run through his head. Dark Rock becomes rather enraged, "I will attain Duo's power....and then I will....I....!"

Rockman is suddenly pulled into the memories of Dark Rockman, witnessing a scene from his earlier conversation about human bonds with Dr. Regal. "Bonds?", Regal asks. Dark Rockman brings up Hikari Netto and Rockman as an example. "Are you lonely?", asks Regal. "No, that's not it..." replies Dark Rockman. Regal begins to explain that Dark Rock's body is currently too weak. However, with the Crests and the technology of Duo in their hands, Dark Rockman will far surpass any need of bonds or companionship. "Duo's power will be your partner", Regal promises. "Dark Rockman! You will be the ultimate net navi!"

Pulled back to their fight, Rockman is rather stunned. "Dark Rockman...you...!" Dark Rock won't hear any of his pity, screaming "I will become the ultimate net navi!" as he flings Rock away from him. Grinning, Dark Rockman silently thinks Custom Bolt in his head. Sure enough, the next chip Netto slots in is Custom Bolt!

Dark Rockman summons a lightening rod to counterattack, sending Rockman's chip straight back at him in electric shock. Next, Dark Rockman summons the Dark Wide chip, just as Netto slots in Dream Aura. Dark Rock summons a North Wind type chip, which blows away Rock's defense, allowing him to be struck head on by the Dark Wide.

Dark Rockman finally explains that because he has all of Rockman's memories, he knows their strategy perfectly. He can anticipate every chip that Netto is about to use in battle. Dark Rockman quickly summons Dark Meteor, striking Rockman yet again. His friends can only watch as Dark Rockman summons the Dark Sword chip, and leaps straight at him, yelling "This is the end!"

Dark Rockman becomes stunned when Rockman catches his sword with his own two hands, and defiantely yells "The two of us will never give up!" Rockman throws his sword to the side, and flings Dark Rockman away from him. He then yells out to Netto to send him a battle chip. Netto is hesitant, because he knows Dark Rock can counter easily. "It's okay! We can't stop now!" "Alright!", Netto yells back.

More angry than before, Dark Rockman changes his arm over to the Dark Drill.

Netto: "Battle Chip-!"
Dark Rockman: "Barrier, right?"
Netto & Rockman: "Drill Arm! Area Steal! Holy Dream! Triple Slot In!"

The Drill Arm chip activates on his arm, and the two navis clash in midair. Rockman then quickly uses the Area Steal to dissappear, surprising Dark Rockman. He lands on the ground, muttering to himself about how he could possibly be wrong. "That's something you'll never understand!" Rockman states, as he reappears behind Dark Rockman.

Rockman activates the Holy Dream cannon on his arm, and aims straight at Dark Rockman. "There's not just one of us...there's two!" Rock explains that even though they may fail, or falter on their way, they've always stood by each other's side. With the resolve to never give up, they'll surely grow stronger. With his final words, Rockman lets loose his attack before Dark Rockman can ready himself, and strikes head on! A giant explosion erupts before them.

As the smoke clears, the wall of darkness shatters, revealing a bright light. Blues explains that Rock's attack has broken through the shield that was protecting the comet's core. Searchman suddenly notices that Dark Rockman is not dead after all, in fact, he's grinning. The purple navi stumbles to his feet, then leaps backwards into the hole!

More determined than ever to succeed, Dark Rockman flies towards the very center of Duo's cyberworld. Rockman follows closely behind, never loosing sight of him. As he does catch up with him, Dark Rockman is already standing on the core itself! His chest emblem begins to glow, and the crests of duo extract themselves. The crests prove to be the key to the core itself, as it activates its power!

Envoloped by Duo's light, Dark Rockman begins to laugh insanely. The comet itself begins to glow as it's brought back to life. The crests of duo have taken complete control of the comet! Dark Rockman orders the power of Duo to flow within him, to transform him into the ultimate net navi.

Dark Rockman's moment of bliss is horridly interupted as a blade stabs viciously through his chest from behind. Dark Rockman writhers in pain as he stares down at the sword emerging from the center of his chest emblem, data beginning to already break away. "Too bad for you", murmurs Slur, as she peeks over his shoulder.

Slur slides out her weapon, allowing Dark Rockman to crumple to the floor. Duo's right hand woman is more than a little pissed that someone would dare try to steal Duo's power. As she charges up for an attack, Dark Rockman's voice strangles out from below, "Battle Chip; Salamandar!"

Dark Rockman gets back on his feet, though just barely, and wraps his arms around Slur as they are both swallowed in fire. "It's no good, you're powerless." she calmly states. "I wonder about that," Dark Rockman says threateningly.

Rockman stares into the flames, and straight at the one whom he had always considered an enemy. Dark Rockman opens his eyes, and smiles right back at Rock. Rockman closes his eyes in frustration, then orders his comrades to retreat. Rock hesitates a moment, then eventually follows them, leaving Dark Rockman and Slur behind.

Once he sees them gone, Dark Rockman screams in a fit of rage as he erupts the flames at their max power, and self detonates his own body. As the three other navis escape just ahead of the wall of flames, Dr. Regal's voice states "So it turns out Dark Rockman was powerless....in that case....."

Back in the facility, Yuuichirou and the others stare at the now activated comet on the screen, wondering what they have done. In the past tunnel, Searchman and Blues fly ahead of a lagging Rockman.

Rockman closes his eyes in what seems sadness, remembering Dark Rockman's final gaze upon him. We finally hear the words uttered between the two. "Go back, Rockman....to where Netto-kun is."

Rockman slowly reopens his eyes as a shower of purple sparkles begin to gather around him. He holds his hands out in front of him, gathering a few of the sparkles into his palms. "Dark Rockman....you are a part of me.....and so....we'll always be together with Netto-kun." Rockman folds his hands to his chest, merging once again with what he had lost.

Rockman looks ahead in the tunnel, uttering one last word at the end of this journey. "Duo...."

So I take it Slur won that fight last week? It seemed kinda rushed that they didn't show the end of that.

A bond "between" Rock and DR was already shown... somewhat... in Dark Rockman's appearance, when he almost killed all of his friends. But that was really it, there were no other proofs in the other episodes of such a bond... :\ Dunno, it DOES make sense, but the "bond" between the two was hardly developed. This episode sounds nice, a lot of action, how's the animation Ryo?

Oh wow. This seems to be the very 1st episode where a Giga Chip was introduced in the anime. Were there other Gigas around the past episodes? Or the movie for that matter?

Okay... that episode is so sad as well as very emotional. It's by far one episode that is so unbelievably cool. Nice work, Ryouko. No errors whatsoever and for the first time ever, Rockman uses Holy Dream, a Battle Network 4 giga chip. Very impressive summary.

It is sad. Dark Rockman is exactly like Rockman in every aspect but he's just pure evil whatsoever. The only thing is that he has a heart and somehow, good and evil are needed to save the world.

The bond was underdeveloped, I wish they had spent more time on Dark Rockman's character. There was so much potential in him, but yet he gets used for another plot device, much like Shademan.

This is what happens when Dr. Regal gets involved. He manipulates people into doing his dirty work and in exchange, he gets rid of them just like in Axess when he double-crossed ShadeMan and eventually deleted him but ShadeMan came back to change history and Rockman went back in time to stop him unfortunately, when ShadeMan bit him it triggered the dark side within him causing Dark Rockman to appear. It was all Dr. Regal's doing just as he predicted ever since he was defeated in Axess episode 51.

I vote for Wily. Wily has always been sneaky and knew more about Duo than Regal. That's how Yuriko and Miyabi got SynchroChips from him because he wants them to see the light and help fight to save the earth.
