Topic revival /o/

Anyhow, continuing from the last Phantom Kingdom topic, a couple of days before it's release, Nippon Ichi released some new and surprising information.

Yet another bracket has been added to the contest, bumping it up to 11 characters now.
Don't recognize anyone from it, but judging by the reaction of Gamefaqs, it added a couple of fairly popular characters and a few of them look interesting.

As well, they showed a new class and a new bit of info about the battle system.

The out of bounds system is returning from Phantom Brave, but this time instead of always falling out of the battle, sometimes a character will find a secret map, where they can battle with other characters thrown on to it by themselves. I think it mentioned items too.

On the character pages, they added the Professor and Vampire for those who haven't seen them on RPGamer yet, as well as revealed the Professor's function, upgrading mechs like the blacksmith from Phantom Brave does with weapons.
On to the new class Not only is it an excellent design, but they chose one of my favorite quirky character classes...

Phantom Kingdom now has a chef class :D

Wow... This game sounds incredible! It sounds like it will definitely match up to the standard Disgaea set with me! Finding new maps? Chef class?! I will be getting this =P. What exactly are the brackets determining?

It would be funny if in the american verson the chief said something like... "Bamn. Let's kick it up a knoch" Laughing Also I'm sure some of the bracket charters are from "Rapsody: A Musical Adventure" That game did come to america and it's for the PS1. But it's very rare. Last time I saw it on Ebay it sold off for like $100+

Edit: I found a pic of Rhapsody and here's a pic of a battle with the cat people in one of the brackets

We can only hope XD

Anyhow, the game's out in Japan now and a couple people on Gamefaqs got their hands on it.

Judging by the review, the gameplay is just as good, if not better than before and took the best parts of both Disgaea and Phantom Brave, then fixed them so they weren't broken or glitchy.

Apparently the story isn't as good as Disgaea, and the game may be a bit short (not beaten yet, but it's showing signs of what may be a conclusion early on) but the gameplay's good enough to make up for it and it still is good.

Edit: The game's been beaten now and the secret characters have been found.

Unfortunately, there was a mistranslation about how the contest works and it was actually only five characters out of the eleven brackets being chosen, rather than one character per bracket.

But although I don't think they're normally obtainable, apparently you do get at least some of the story characters this time around.

The game is 9 chapters and although this is short, I think that they're longer than the chapters from the previous game, as from what I can gather the first or second (can't remember exactly) chapter alone has at least 6 battles. (probably just the opposite of Phantom Brave, where the chapters were shorter but there were much more of them).

The secret characters are Laharl, Etna, Flonne, Castille and the mysterious girl with the guns, who's named Asagi.

I'm a bit dissapointed that Laharl, Etna and Flonne all made it in (considering there's only 5, I'd rather have had only Etna make it in out of the three) but I was interested in seeing what Asagi's like and Castille was one of the ones I wanted to see the most (apparently, in this her legs have been healed and she can fight.)

Edit again: More info, someone found some stuff on a Japanese site that's an incomplete list to stuff like characters, weapons, endings and stuff.
Apparently there's five different endings endings and so far, about half of the story characters have been obtained as playable characters (oddly, no one's confirmed whether Pram's playable yet or not)

Much thanking Sketch Smile

Anyhow, a japanese site has started archiving info now, and I can get some more specific stuff on it.

Although there's only 9 scenarios, I was right about them being longer.
They start off around the same length as Disgaea's, but I took a peet at the last one and it went up to about 10 battles, which is the the highest any scenario in any N1 Tactics game has gotten IIRC.

Found a list of story characters, not sure if it's complete or not, but so far it has:

Zetta (in his normal body)
Pram (The female lead)
Alexander (Zetta's rival)
Salome (Alexander's assistant)
Babylon (The dragon)
The samurai guy
Valvolga (The big demonic guy)
Laharl
Etna
Flonne
Castille (taking a closer look at her new design, it looks like she's starting to look a bit like Walnut. Got similar hair and apparently she has her own version of his special attack)
Asagi
"Superalloy Robosuit"
"Battleship Yocou"

The last two are mechs rather than characters, and are the translations I got from the site (the site owner is nice enough to write the stuff in English and Japanese)

Also, none of them are obtained normally.

Not many new classes discovered besides monster classes, but the list is incomplete (still missing a few on the official site.
Among the newly discovered classes are a male and female fencer, A nurse (probably for the syringe) and a commander (appears to be a higher level soldier class as far as I can tell).

Quite a few new weapons have been found.
Pretty much everything from beam swords to magnets to flamethrowers to boxes.
As well, they have what's quite possibly the greatest idea for a weapon in any game ever,
A pie (seriously XD)
Also, although so far the weapon levels are varied, some of them have over 20 levels so far, so assuming this is an incomplete list and they all have the same amount of levels, there's gonna be a ton of weapons in this game.

Five endings have been found so far.
A good ending, what seems to be a bad ending and three different character based endings.

The wish list (basically, you make a wish to book Zetta or something) seems to be similar to the dark congress, but it doesn't have much options beyond creating buildings and secret characters and is based on completing goals rather than fighting progressively harder battles.

Didn't take much of a look at the building list, but there's quite a variety of buildings and I doubt that all of them have been found yet.
Also, it looks like you don't have to summon with buildings. You can still confine like you do in Phantom Brave (but without the time limit), but buildings give you advantages that you don't have with summoning normally and let you store troops like the home base in Disgaea.

The random dungeon creation system appears to have been simplified and now you only choose the level of a dungeon. That's a good move IMO, as being able to choose all the aspects made it a bit too easy to get classes early in the game and had the easy powerleveling and stuff.

Unfortunately, the person who composed the music in the previous games didn't do this game and as a result, most people who've played don't like the music (based on what they said though, I suspect it's just bias against it not being the same Razz)

That's all for now. I'll update again if I find any more interesting stuff.

Oh, yeah... forgot about that Razz
Be careful going around the site, the scenario, ending, wish list and concealment character sections are a bit spoilerific (accidentially got the final boss spoiled for me x_x)

had to split it to three lines so it would fit the screen.

The official site has most of them.
The one of the secret characters is from a PK Livejournal community.

Castille's the one between Flonne and Etna in the screens
