Chapter 8 – Second Melee
Remeer’s Side
Andrew turned to me after peeking outside. He raised both his hands and showed me seven fingers. Seven men, huh…? As I got closer to Andrew, he whispered “Seven against two… The odds are heavily against them…” I gave out a silent sneer. I always try my best not to underestimate my opponents, especially when we are outnumbered.
Still, being outnumbered does not intimidate me one bit. I’ve faced situations worse than this, all on my own…
The seven men entered my yard. They all have blank looks on their faces. Could it be that these are also mind-controlled? I don’t sense any of them having magical powers, but much to my surprise, one of them raised his hands and started creating a huge snowball. Another sign of hypnotism: a victim can inherit whatever powers the hypnotist has…
Even before this man can unleash that huge ice, shredding winds came down on all of them real hard. That was Andrew’s move. He was summoning winds long before these men entered. Seizing the opportunity, I opened this window and jumped out of it. As I rushed in, these men are trying to keep their balance, but to no avail. They are not strong enough to oppose these winds pushing down. I braved these winds as if it was nothing, and made my own move.
I picked one from this group to attack first. I went around while he tried hard to fight back, but these winds still held him fast. I managed to grab both his hands from behind, and then I started kicking his back and neck, forcing his arms to snap backwards. Instantly, he fell unconscious from the pain. That’s one down…
As I moved in to my next target, Andrew joined in. The winds died down since Andrew is no longer making them. As these men staggered to their feet as they surrounded us, Andrew and I touched knuckles. We have done this before, and we know what to do.
One man attacked Andrew without delay, but he stepped aside and tripped this man. As this man fell down, I stomped my foot real hard close to his falling place. The impact bounced him right back up to his feet. Standing up with no idea where he is, Andrew and I started pummeling him from opposite directions. Our attacks did not even allow this man’s feet to even touch the ground. To finish our dual attack, I swept this man off his feet. As the man falls down again, Andrew grabbed this man’s head and slammed him face first on the other direction. That’s two down …
All of that happened in seconds. These men did not show fear. Their mind-control really is powerful to keep them from having any emotion. The others charged in afterwards, ignoring what we just did to one of them. We took all of these men at once, with synchrony and precision only made possible by repetition. Whenever anyone of us does an action, the other is sure to follow up…
As our opponents’ number dwindled down to two, Andrew gave a laugh. He finds this exciting. He ran up to another enemy, and kicked him towards my direction. I caught this man and threw him around and back to Andrew. Andrew met this man’s stomach with a punch, and then he punched him again with a much greater force, sending him back to me. This time around, I gave this man a kick in the back, sending him flying again back to Andrew. Andrew moved, knowing that doing so will put this enemy crashing to the other attacking from Andrew’s back. As the two collided, Andrew and I faced them and waved our hands onto them. We blasted them with our own energies, sending them further, faster, and to a cement wall of my house. That’s seven down…
Andrew cracked his fist and his neck. We both looked around to see how much damage this fight did. Let’s see… An uprooted tree, that huge crack on my wall, grass kicked off of my lawn… Nothing. No other damage. … Whew…
Still, Andrew and I can’t rest. We can still feel this cold aura. The one responsible is still around… Where is he? I spoke loudly in the air after looking around. “Come out, whoever you are!” Surely enough, someone came out…
This man, wearing a black trench coat in the middle of a hot day, also has a blank face. He removed his glasses and combed his long, white hair back with his hand. As we both met this man’s brown eyes, Andrew could not help but comment on him a bit. He said to me in a jeering tone, “I told you black and leather is the trend today. He’s a prime example.”
He gave a snicker, and replied naturally. “Heh. It’s not my fault the other maggots want to imitate me…” He stored his shades inside his pocket and showed his hand. Slowly, crystal ice appeared on his hand in the form of a knife. As he checked the sharpness of his knife, he said, “The price for your head is ludicrously high. I have never heard of a maggot head having a very huge bounty. Still, it’s an offer I won’t refuse.”
“Who are you?” I asked this man. He snickered again, and said, “I don’t give my name to maggots, but you’ll be my first exception. My name is Mardock. ” He walked indifferently towards us saying, “Are you two ready to die?”
Andrew chuckled a little, and attacked afterwards. “Take this! Tornado Punch!” He punched the air, summoning another shredding twister towards this man in black. Not so surprisingly, Mardock moved out of harm’s way. If he can move that fast, then he is not to be underestimated like the first seven we fought. He dashed quickly towards Andrew and announced, “I’ll kill you first!” The ice knife went down on Andrew, but Andrew is quick as well. He parried the knife with his own weapon: steel gloves. Andrew gave punches to Mardock, but his fists only met with the blade. You can hear those steel knuckles clashing loudly with Mardock’s ice knife.
Should I pull out a weapon as well…? … No… I must do without it!
I joined Andrew and gave my own attack. Mardock took both of us on. His ice knife is always this close to actually hacking any of us, the same way any of our attacks could barely keep up with him. Again, I met another person that actually gives a great threat.
…
Minutes have passed, and still it is not clear to any of us which side is gaining. Our fight has taken us around my house, and even up to the air. As we both came to another standstill, Mardock gave a laugh and pointed his knife towards me. “Stop resisting the inevitable!”
He came at me again with intense speed, ignoring Andrew who has mysteriously vanished during the fight. I have a plan however. I dodged all of Mardock’s attacks, and then I intentionally took one slash to my neck. Mardock instantly chopped my head off…
Mardock paused. He knew something was wrong with what he did. He sure is right. That was merely an illusion I have created in the heat of the battle. It was too late for him to realize that he bit my trap. From below him, Andrew struck him with his signature Twister Punch, sending him upwards to me. I, quick to follow, pointed my index and middle finger on his back. I said to him while he was stunned. “This is my most preferred attack…” He tried to move away, but he is too close and too late to take action.
“Shotgun Blast!” My own attack, as the name implies a bit, is a light-based magic, destructively powerful at a very close range. He took the full blast since he was only inches away, sending him down with frightening speed to the ground. He was able to jump off from the impact, avoiding great injury from falling. Still, my attack has done its damage. His back should be burned greatly, even with that leather coat he is wearing…
As Andrew and I went down, Andrew scoffed at him. “Had enough, Mar-Duck?” Mardock, bloodied a bit, stood up as if he never felt anything. “Now I see why your maggot head is so expensive. It seems that I have to kill you with my full strength!” He started releasing his cold aura. As he did, his ice knife melted away and transformed into a huge sword. He swung this obviously heavy sword as if it was still a knife. He walked towards us again, and said, “Again, are you two ready to die?”
Andrew took this time to take out his other weapon. His steel gloves can instantly be transformed into steel claws, giving him longer range. And if I remember correctly, those claws are wind-enchanted. He could summon more winds with a mere swing with that weapon. Again, he is quick to attack before me.
Should I pull out a weapon…? No, I must not! As much as possible, I do not want ‘that’ to happen again!

Anyway, thanks for the comments. I'm still a bit of a newbie when describing action scenes. Some say that there's not much action, others say there's too much, and I think I've heard someone saying "What action?"
Oh, and Irene would eventually come home to a slightly wrecked house. That is, after a few problems and mishaps I have planned for her. Hint: portal. Heheheh... _________________ My deviantART... |

Agreed.
So far so good, I guess. There is certainly no lack of action, and it is still a good read. Nice work. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Back from the dead...

Chapter 9 - Solution
Irene's Side
Blue and I walked around this church for anythin' out of the ordinary. Anythin' that could be the source of this evil. But where do we look?
Again, we came to another corridor cluttered with doors and more doors. This one is much longer than the last one, so it would be a real pain to search each and every room. No question about it. Well, we might as well start now. Splittin' up is out of the question. Blue couldn't help but cling to me after our first run-in with that thing...
Minutes have passed, and still nothin' found. I hope we didn't miss anythin'. We were halfway done with our serach, until we saw the first ghost inside a dark room, standing in the darkest corner. When she saw us, she started speakin' again with no words coming out of her mouth.
Blue now had no fear of this ghost as she followed me inside this room. Before we could ask, the ghost started sinkin' to the ground. Before her head vanished on this marble floor, she spoke one more time for help.
"Maybe we have found what we are looking for...", said Blue. She kneeled down to this corner, and placed her hand on this floor. She looked at me, and said "I sense a different aura here. It's weak compared to the malicious aura enveloping this church, so I couldn't feel this before we entered." I see. This dark force is drownin' out a weaker force.
A closer inspection shows that there's a slight crack at the floor. As I ran my finger down this crack, I felt this angry aura run through my body. This dark aura is comin' from this small crack. Yup. This is definitely what we were lookin' for...
"Should I break it?" I asked Blue. She looked around inside this dark room, and said "That's probably the only way." It's settled then. I took my Bone Staff and started slammin' it down this floor. Each blow only gave cracks. As it did crack, we felt this malicious aura flow stronger. Minutes have passed, and still all I can create are cracks. Eventually, my Bone Staff broke. Oh well... Remi-chan told me the Bone Staff is technically indestructible. It'll fix itself in an hour or so.
This time around, I took out my Gossamer Chains. Let's see... Which element makes the punchin' glove again...? Right. Second Form: Earth Gauntlet. Quickly, my whip wrapped around my arm, creatin' a makeshift glove. I kneeled down and started slammin' hard on this corner. Good thing my Gossamer Chains can absorb much shock in Earth Form, or else my hand would have been sore for doin' even one punch to this ground.
More minutes after, and all of the marble tiles in this corner have been destroyed. As I removed all of these chunks and rocks, I saw somethin' familiar. A dark seal made out of blood is drawn just underneath this tile. I turned to Blue to tell her what I found, but somethin' came up. This other ghost is right behind Blue. This aura we are feelin' is got so strong while it was bein' exposed, that neither one of us felt her presence.
"Blue! Look out!" She turned around, meetin' this ghost's hands with her neck. The ghost started stranglin' Blue as she drowned her body by feeding her dark energies. She fought back but she was powerless as she was lifted off the ground...
Get you hands off her!! Third Form: Shock Drill!!
My Gossamer Chains unraveled from my hand and started drillin' through this ghost's body. Alon' with the enormous electricity, the ghost was sent crashing to a wall. I hate to remember how solid this ghost is. I turned to Blue to see how is she. Immediately, I noticed that her neck is all bluish. It's like part of her flesh is already dead. "Are you okay?", I asked Blue. She gagged a little and turned to the seal I just uncovered. "I-I'm okay... I-Irene... P-please stall..." She crawled to the seal to undo it, wheezin' and coughin' on the way...
Somehow, I've got to stall the ghost. I have to keep her away from Blue. I have to keep her away from this room. As this ghost stood up again, it rushed in to me with both hands reachin' for my throat. But even before she could take an inch inside this room, I tackled her out. I now have this ghost's full attention.
I ran out of this corridor, seeing that this ghost is chasin' me like before. This time, she couldn't gain in on me, as she is injured. Not long after, we came to the same hall Blue and I first faced this ghost. This time, I face her alone.
Just like last time, she circled so fast above me. It's hard to follow her move, now that no one is lookin' out behind me. As she dived in, I managed to jump away, barely avoidin' this ghost's deadly hands. Before I had time to think, this ghost dashed to me.
She caught my by the throat...
I'm bein' choked... Dark energies... sappin' me... Is this... the end...?
...
... I-I'm not dead... The dark energy that is weakenin' me... I'm endurin' it...? No... I'm absorbin' it...! I'm absorbin' dark energy!
I looked down on this ghost. The only thing she is doin' to me now is choke me. To her surprise, I grabbed her arms and snapped them away. As she stood up and grabbed me by the arm, she started drownin' me with dark energies. Again, I'm not reactin' to it.
For some reason, I am absorbin' dark powers! I-I like it! I feel so bad inside! The ghost is mesmerized on what is happening. She was so mesmerized that she never attacked again...
At that time, Blue was able to destroy the seal. The curse on this church is lifted. In front of me, this deadly ghost transformed. Eventually she resembled the first ghost we saw. She looked up to me, smiled, then bowed down. Is she thankin' me? Could it be that this ghost was just controlled or somethin'? Moments later, Blue and the first ghost appeared. She joined the other ghost and gave her a hug. As they waved goodbye to the two of us, they disappeared without a trace...
That's it! Mission accomplished!
I looked back at Blue. I see that her neck is fine now. She probably had time to heal herself. She stretched her arms back, and yawned. "It's almost daybreak. Shall we go home?" "Yes. That'll be nice."
As we made our way out of this church, I could still feel this dark energy flowin' inside me. Slowly, I wanted to 'vent' it out on someone or somethin'. Since Blue is the only one around, I suddenly had the urge to do somethin' to her...
Heheheh... No one is around... What should I do to her...?
... What am I suddenly thinkin'?! I have to supress this...
...
Back at Blue's mansion, Mr. Kingson was sittin' behind his desk. "Blue, I'm dissppointed with you. You know that I don't want you to place yourself in harm." Blue's eyebrows crossed, gave a sigh, and said "Father..." Mr. Kingson sighed as well. "Then again, I'm still proud of you. You managed to do a feat for the city." Modest, Blue just scratched her cheek and let out a sheepish smile. "As for you, thank you for your service, Miss...?" Oh, that's right. I haven't said my name yet to him. "Just call me Irene. I don't like formalities or nothin' like that." Mr. Kingson laughed. "Very well then. Again, thank you for your service, Irene."
Mr. Kingson stood up and walked to a bookshelf. He pulled out a book halfway, then placed it back again. The bookshelf slided open, revealing a safe. Ooh! The shelf is mechanized! Anyway, Mr. Kingson pulled out a bag filled with gold coins! Yahoo! This should be at least twenty times bigger than what Remi-chan's gives me! I'm rich! I'm rich!!
...
I went flyin' home afterwards. I wanted to spend some of this reward with Blue since we both did the mission, bu that mission left her tired. Oh well. I'm not tired at all. I can still feel this dark energy inside me. I can't help but feel evil, but I can't just get rid of this on anyone...
I know! Remi-chan! He'll know what to do! Besides, I am feelin' a bit naughty ! Heheheh ...
...
Back at home, I went straight down to the basement. I wanted to go home to Remi-chan before this feelin' vanishes or somethin' . Let's see...
... No... Oh no!! I-I forgot the spell!!

Agreed.
I enjoyed this chapter. Even if it is a bit shorter than that of some of the previous ones, it is still no less detailed.
Foreshadowing is good, espeically with Irene's absorption of the "dark force" in this chapter. While it's not particularly original, I think, it still sets up for some seemingly nice situations later on. I hope to see you handle this well. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! Chapter 10 - Alone
Mustn't panic... Mustn't panic... Mustn't panic...
...
AAAAAH!! HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID?! WITTHOUT THE SPELL, I WON'T BE ABLE TO GO BACK!! STUPID!! STUPID!! STUPID!! I'M SO STUPID!!
...
Okay... I'm calm now... It's not like I'm not home... This is where I live... Remi-chan would probably come back here to pick me up if I stay here for too long... He would probably think that I forgot the spell and I'm just waiting for him to come back... ... But, what if he doesn't...? I mean, what if he thinks I just don't want to go back yet...? Or maybe he would think that if he comes home to check up on me, he'd lose my trust... Or, or maybe... Damn... I'm just making myself panic again...
But really, how could I forget that spell... I should have written it down or somethin'... That way, I could just look for it and read it... Read...? That's it! Read the spell! Remi-chan has lots and lots of books in his room! Maybe I can find the spell that I need!
Immediately, I ran up to Remi-chan's room. Good thin' his door is never locked. I've been to his room many times, much to his permission, so I quickly know where to look. Just open the door, go inside, and look to my right. There, a bookcase as tall as I am is filled with books and trinkets. Let's see... There's got to be somethin' here...
...
Damn it... I've been looking for minutes, and I still can't find anythin'. I've almost gone through half of the shelf, and still nothin'. Maybe this isn't such a good idea. No! I mustn't give up!
... I give up... I've been through all the books, and found absolutely nothin'... The only thing I could do now is return these books... Heh. I've made such a mess. The books are all on the floor and on his bed...
As I replaced all of the books back to the shelf, I noticed somethin' at the corner of the lowest shelf. I took a closer look, but still couldn't make anythin' out of it. As I reached in to touch it, I realized that it was a button... Hmm... A button... I wonder what it does...
Aah... Aah... Aah-choo!!
Oh no! I pressed the button!
Next to me, part of the floor opened up, revealin' a staircase I didn't know was there! A-a secret room? I wonder what's down there?
No! I mustn't! It's a secret room, so I shouldn't know what's inside! ... ... But I've learned that there's a room like this, so it's no longer a secret. Let's go in! ... ... What am I thinkin'? This room is secretly connected to Remni-chan's room! That obviously means this is Remi-chan's secret! ... ... But Remi-chan's secret is safe with me. Besides, I want to know more about him.
Yes! ... No! ... Go! ... Stop! ... But it looks so temptin'! ... Quit it, Irene!
...
... Well, Remi-chan ain't here, so he won't know that I wen't here. I guess I should leave no evidence on my way in and out...
I decended the stairs that closely resembled the basement. There my eyes opened with wonder as I saw things I never knew Remi-chan had. Bookshelves abound in this room, each havin' books covered with dust. Perhaps I can find somethin' here... ... Yeah, right. Like, where am I supposed to start?
I was walkin' around this room, lookin' at the shelves for any book that looks promisin', until I reached a corner of the room. There I saw a huge seal on the floor. It is so ornate. I wonder what it is for? Well, I guess this won't help me at anythin'...
I searched again, until I reached another corner of the room. There, I saw glitterin' stuff placed on stands. Plated armor, a helmet, swords and a shield. Why, these are a knight's equipment! Why would Remi-chan have these...? Perhaps, he is a knight?
The thought of Remi-chan being a knight in shinin' armor fascinated me. I daydreamed a little of him savin' me like that before. However, somethin' about this armor... is makin' me... angry... The more I look at it, the angrier I become. Maybe this is an effect of the dark power still inside me. Whatever it is, I took my eyes off the armor, and went away from it...
Let's see... Hey, this looks promising... Portal... Portal... Aah! Portal, page 259! ... Here it is! Let's see... No... No... No... Yes, this is the spell Remi-chan told me!!
--------------------------------------------------
"Master *******, we found something out..."
"..."
"The girl that was holding two ********* weapons, it appears she is living under Remustar's protection. Perhaps, she is another survivor. She might be a-"
"Perhaps...?"
"..."
"I do not like the word 'perhaps'..."
"... Understood, Master *******. We shall send one of our men to investigate further on her."
"..."

I was wondering when you would get back to this....
Anyway...this was rather short, and rather uneventful, but it served to help show the effects of the darkness on how Irene is thinking. I thought you could have introduced what seems to be Remeer's secrets in a manner that wasn't so widely used already, but who am I to complain? As for the "other" conversation...rather nice. I'm still puzzled as to who that would belong to, but it's certainly food for thought. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Okay, that was shorter and uneventful than what I usually do. I'll keep that in mind.
Anyway, the reason I introduced Irene to one of Remeer's secret is because she'll eventually figure it out. It's a secret Remeer doesn't want her to know (at least not yet), because he knows what the consequences might be if Irene knew.
Oh, and if anyone notices, Chapter 9b is missing. I couldn't come up with anything for that. The idea is there, but the words aren't. Y'know what I mean? _________________ My deviantART... |

Chapter 11 – Wrong Place
Irene’s Side
After takin’ a snooze, I decided to go back to the secret room one last time. I’m pretty sure that this evil feelin’ in me is gone. I just want to check somethin’ again. I made my way through these bookcases to reach the armor I found a few hours ago.
… Why am I still feelin’ it? Lookin’ at this golden armor is makin’ me angry. Why is that? Before I tried to leave the room, I suddenly noticed that I gave this armor a punch. W-what made me do that? It’s like I am disgusted with this armor…
I got a little worried after hittin’ the armor a second time. I hope I don’t make any dents on it. If that happens, Remi-chan could find out that I’ve been here. I slowly took my fist away, to see if anythin’ was done… … Whew… Not one scratch on it… Before I could do anythin’, I kinda forced myself out of the room. My anger is just boilin’ at the armor’s sight…
As I left the room, I reached in the bookcase where I found the switch. As I thought, the same button closes everythin’. I hope I didn’t leave any evidence in there. I don’t want Remi-chan thinkin’ badly of me… Well, maybe I do, but in a different way…
I made my way down to the basement, and began chantin’ the spell which I wrote on a piece of paper. After activatin’ the spell, I hid that piece of paper in my bag for future reference. Let’s see… After activatin’ the portal, think of the place it connects to… Alexia… Alexia… Alexia… A little while after, the portal opened. Yay! I’m back home!
… Or so I thought…
As I walked out of the portal, I realized that this is not the place I should have been. I mean, the stone walls are replaced with wood, and I am surrounded by old, dusty furnitures. Is this really Alexia?
As I wondered more and more, someone opened the door to this basement. A girl in a maid’s dress was looking at me. She took a step back and spoke. “W-who are you?!” Before I could even answer, she ran. Okay, now this is not really the place I should be. Maybe I should get out’ta here…
I thought of goin’ back to the portal, but I felt like goin’ up instead. I took these wooden stairs, pass this wooden door, and looked around. This house is much more grand than Remi-chan’s. I mean, everythin’ is so elegant. Before I could take another step, the first maid came in to this hall with another maid, kind of panicked in her words. “There! That’s the woman in the basement!” After seein’ me, she hid a little bit behind the second maid. Do I look scary…? I looked down at the very shiny marble floor and saw my reflection. I don’t see anythin’ wrong with me…
“Who are you?” said this blonde maid. I kind of hesitated, because I know this could be called intrudin’. “I-I’m Irene…” The maid paused and gave a smile “Ah! So you are Irene!” Huh…? Does she know me? Before I could talk again, she said “We’ve been expecting you. Please, right this way.” Expectin’ me…? I couldn’t reply. Instead, I just followed the blonde maid. Meanwhile, the first one that saw me calmed down a bit and soon followed after.
From the looks of it, whoever owns this house is rich. On my way to wherever this blonde maid is takin’ me, I found others as well: three other maids, a butler, and a wolf sleeping outside. Is that wolf a pet…? Cool! Anyway, even the floor is carpeted. Talk about elegant.
The maid showed me in to a room. I could somehow tell that this is the master’s room. Just in front of me is a man busily typin’ away on a thin computer. He took a look at me, and raised an eyebrow. The blonde maid said “Master Cliff, this is Irene.” This Cliff person took off his glasses, stood up, and gave a hand for a handshake. “I’ve been expecting you, Irene.” he said with a smile. I still kind of hesitated to shake hands, but I did it anyway.
“Wait a minute! I don’t get anythin’! Where am I? Who are you? And you’ve been expectin’ me?” He coughed, folded his computer, and started explainin’. “For your first question, you are in Alexia. More specifically, you are in my manor. Don’t fret. For your second question, my name is Cliff. Cliff Redwood. These two are my maids: Honey and Quincy.” He first pointed out to the blonde maid, then to the other maid. “And for your third question, Remeer contacted me yesterday. He said that you might come here instead of Remeer’s house.” H-how could I end up here…? Didn’t Remi-chan told me that that kind of portal I use is fail-safe? H-how…? Before that, I wanted to talk to Remi-chan.
“Do you guys have a phone? I want to talk to Remi-chan.” Cliff smiled, and answered “Why certainly. Quincy, please show her the phone.” The maid with the long, brown hair was a little slow to react. She stepped forward, and said “P-please follow me.” My, this girl looks tense. It’s like she’s afraid to foul up or somethin’…
…
“The portal is fail-safe, Irene. The only problem is if the portal it connects to become disabled.” Disabled? “Can you explain that some more, Remi-chan?” He answered without delay. “Well, the kind of portal we use is made from a seal, right? If the seal is stopped or is destroyed, then you would end up at another portal, usually the next closest location. If not, then you’d just end up where you came from.” I see! So that’s why I ended up here!
I’m a little homesick without Remi-chan, so I made a request with a little anxiety in my tone. “Say Remi-chan, can you pick me up here? I don’t know how to get there.” “That might be hard. You see, we are practically in opposite sides of the planet.” “… Meanin’?” “That means getting there takes a very long time.” “H-how long?” “My estimate is 3 days at best.”
“3 days?” Remi-chan coughed a little. “Don’t yell on the phone. In any case, yes. Alexia is a very big planet compared to others. That’s the reason why the daily cycle of this planet is more than twice the standard daily cycle, which is 24 hours. Right now, it’s nighttime here.” I looked outside, and saw the bright sky. “Y’mean, I won’t be able to see you anymore…?” He gave a little laugh, and continued. “Not until I fix this up. Sorry about that…” “I miss you already, Remi-chan!” “I know, I know. I’m trying my best to recreate the portal here as fast as possible.”
“Uh, Remi-chan, how did the portal there get destroyed?” Silence came in. It’s like he doesn’t know how to answer that, or he doesn’t want to. “Beats me… Sometimes, magic can be unstable…” … Remi-chan said that, but I could tell he’s just makin’ it up. I don’t want to question him about it, though. Maybe it’s another secret that I shouldn’t know? “For the meanwhile,” he continued, “Stay wherever you want. Mingle a little with the others there if you like. Make yourself occupied.” “Okay… Anythin’ else?” “Nothing more. How about you? Is there anything you want to say?” “Uh… Nope. Nothin’” “Very well, then. Good bye, Irene.” “Bye-bye, Remi-chan!”
So, now what do I do…?
--------------------------------------------------
Oh yeah. I tried to hide Remeer's real name during the talk between two mysterious people, until I realized I gave it out in an earlier chapter.
Anyways, I'm gone!

o.o Irene getting angry by looking at that armor is weird. And it seems that Remeer is trying to hide the battle from Irene XD _________________

Hmm.
We see more superficial signals that this dark energy that now resides in Irene is detrimental to her thinking. I'm tempted to think that we will see some sort of violent eruption from Irene at some time, since there have been quite a few hints to one over the past few chapters.
As for how Remeer is doing--I sure hope he can deal with Irene once she blows. Nice work. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I found my words :D !

Chapter 9 – Solution
Remeer’s Side
The battle against Mardock continued. The intensity got bigger as greater weapons were drawn. I, on the other hand, am still against the decision of doing the same. I’d rather not have the same accident happen again.
With Mardock’s weapon, Andrew and I now had a harder time making our attacks. He wields that sword with such speed and precision. I find it a miracle that none of us is greatly harmed. A few bruises here and a few scratches there.
He is good. In my opinion, he can equal any one of us. Still, we have the upper hand, for we outnumber him. Clashes and blows are continuously heard while Mardock is slowly getting cornered. He let out huff, a sign that he is being worn out, as do we.
“Damn you! If only you weren’t here, I should have been done with that maggot’s head minutes ago!” screamed Mardock, pointing his sword to Andrew. Andrew scoffed, shook his hands a bit, and commented. “Why, thank you! I didn’t think you’d see the greatness in me!” Mardock’s eyebrows crossed even tighter. Apparently, that line Andrew used gave him much anger.
As Andrew charged ahead of me, Mardock gave a grin out of the blue. Right then and there, I knew he has something in mind. Andrew got in range with ease as Mardock didn’t try to fend him off. Andrew saw it as a chance, and slashed down on Mardock.
Before Andrew’s metal claws came down, Mardock pulled up on of the men who we fought earlier and used him as a shield. Andrew was surprised, and immediately stopped his attack. The tip of his claws plunged lightly onto the man’s shoulder. That’s when I realized the tides changed.
Andrew was caught wide open. He received Mardock’s ice sword to his left side, greatly injuring him. The blow was so strong that Andrew wasn’t just wounded, he was thrown away. The wound was deep enough to kill, but Andrew still lives. I made no delay on running to Andrew, tending to his wounds.
“Damn! That was really low!” said Andrew. Even I knew that. He is intent on killing us at the cost of another person’s life. Mardock came closer and closer, holding one man with his free arm. “Accept your fate! Die by my hands!” Mardock laughter echoed a litlle in my ears. This is a predicament I have already experienced.
Andrew is no longer bleeding, but the damage he took paralyzed him. I guess it’s just between me and him now. Also, he has the advantage of having a human shield. I must think of all my actions perfectly. If I don’t, that accident will just happen again. Now, how do I get to him without hurting this man?
No matter which direction I take, he always pulls this man in front of me. For the next minutes, I could not make any assault. I must think fast. I will not just die, not by this man, but I can’t let his shield die during battle.
“Really, I can’t believe that your maggot head is so expensive! The least you could do is prove that your head equals the price on it. The way you fight, I’d say your head is no greater than a percent of your current price!” … What is my ‘current price’? That line made me think a little. He thinks my fighting abilities are not according to my price. If so, whoever placed a price on my head thinks highly of me. Real high…
…! Could it be? Does someone know who I really am, other than my real name?
I have exhausted almost all of my options. The last option I have saved is to pull out a weapon. I fear that accident I did years ago, but I no longer have a choice. It’s either my life… or his life…
Before the giant sword slices me from above, I pulled out my sword.
“Heh! Now you use a weapon? It is too late for you to use that, because this is where you die!” Again, he slashed down while he shoved his human shield in front of me. These are my last seconds to decide… Should I…?
…
Oh God! Please! Let this work!
…
… Did it work…?
I slowly opened my eyes to see what I did… Both Mardock and his hostage received my sword… The blade plunged through Mardock’s flesh, just a little below his shoulder bone… His human shield received the sword straight through his lung… Time stopped for me… Now, as I pull out my sword, I shall see the result…
My blade went through this man as if it was nothing. Meanwhile, Mardock began bleeding profusely. He coughed blood as his grip loosened around his shield. I gave out a huge breath of relief. My fear is over. My blade did not harm nor kill an innocent.
As Mardock was trying to recover his footing, he lost control over his power. He continuously barraged the surrounding with his cold aura. Even he was being hurt by his loss of control. Andrew was finally able to stand up to see Mardock collapse against a wall.
“Hah… Hah… How… How did you do that…?” asked Mardock, clearing his throat. “You… You’re no maggot…” He tried to stand from his position, but to no avail. That enchanted stab weakened him tremendously. I couldn’t answer. I think he will come to realize what I am… “The ability… to hack through innocent bodies… without harming them… No maggot… no human… can do that… Are… are you…?”
“What if I am?” I just snapped back at him before he could continue his question. I suppose that was enough of a hint…
He slammed his fist on the ground. “Blast! If… if I knew you weren’t… a maggot, then… I never should have… taken this opportunity… Even if I win against you… The price on your head… It’s not even worth it!”
Andrew and I both approached Mardock. I kneeled down in front of him, and asked “So, you no longer have any intention against me?” He sneered after rubbing away the blood on his mouth. “Hah… I don’t need to answer that… Skyknight…”
“That’s settled then. Andrew, heal him for me, would you?” He jerked a little from my request. “After all the pain he did to us?” I stood up and looked at him another time. He gave a sigh, and started chanting. “Ωινδσ οφ λιφε… Ενηανχε ουρ ηεαλτη… ΗΕΑΛΙΝΓ ΩΙΝΔ!”
…
After allowing Mardock some rest, he left without saying a word. He left us the burden of cleaning up this mess.
A few police cars came in a little afterwards. They came owing to Andrew. He called some relatives and associates from the long arm of the law, asking for help. “My uncle has sent a few special agents to clear this up. The guys that Mar-duck brainwashed will be sent to a hospital for recovery. My uncle also said that this will be treated as if it never happened.” “Thanks, Andrew.”
“So, I guess that’s another person that knows who you are, Remustar.” “I told you… I don’t like that name…” “Oops. Sorry.” “No you’re not…” “Yes I am.”
…
That night, I saw Andrew off after a little celebration of our victory. There’s so much to do tomorrow. I had to clean the yard, have a few of my walls fixed, and fix that roof. I hope it doesn’t rain anytime soon.
Before I went to sleep, I felt like going to the basement first. That is when I found something out. The portal that connects this place to Corneca is destroyed! How could that be? … Could it be the time when Mardock’s powers went wild? … Of course! That kind of aura could destroy basic magic spells and seals with a mere contact!
If that’s the case, then Irene won’t be able to get back here… Oh dear…
--------------------------------------------------
I'm really getting into this right now. Probably because I lost my drawing attitude. Hope I get it back soon.
To MC, how did you know Irene will blow? I guess I didn't make it clear that the darkness has already dissipated from her. Anyways, she'd blow alright, but not because of the darkness that she got.
That's all! I'm gone! _________________ My deviantART...

Well...I put that prediction to dumb luck, I suppose. I guess I wasn't reading between the lines thoroughly enough, and I didn't receive any indication that the dark power that was possessing Irene had left. Anyway...this turned out to be good. The combat was done quite well. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! I'm back!
Uh... I hope this chapter doesn't snag a rule too much. Originally, this part of my story was a bit darker. I tried to tone it down, y'know, just in case...

Chapter 11 – Wrong Place
Remeer’s Side
With the destruction of the portal in my basement, I felt a lot of uneasiness. If Irene uses it now, she’d end up in a different place. I wonder how she would react when she finds out.
Better than to pace around imagining possible sequences to my question, I began to call on a friend I knew. His name is Cliff. Other than Andrew, he is another close friend. I, Andrew, Cliff, and some others try to help each other out with whatever we choose to partake.
…
It was just a few years ago. According to the Universal Law Enforcers, or ULE for short, some underground group is holding out illegal auctions. They have located a possible site for the next auction with the help of tips from an unknown source. With the highest secrecy, they have called out for those who wish to aid their planned buy-bust operations. During that time, the ULE army is lacking in numbers, owing to a war that took place months beforehand.
As a preferred requirement, those who enlist must be wealthy enough to buy solid evidence for the arrest of the group. Naturally, with all the tasks I have accomplished as a mercenary, I’m rich enough to retire at an early age. Back then, I only found it as another source of easy money, so I gave them my services.
That is when I met Cliff. He is known as a tiger in the business world. What surprised me a bit is that he is part of the ULE, and he is leading this mission. After the debriefing of the operation, this group of 50 men was split into teams. I was still deciding on which team to go with, but Cliff immediately made way to me. From one look, he immediately asked me to join his team.
…
Deep inside the basement of the building, the two of us, along with three others, has seen first hand the supposedly illegal items for sale: bootlegs here, mass-produced weapons there, and unmentionable paraphernalia everywhere else. Yes, this is surely the place. A little while after, the action began…
Minutes passed. The place was as loud as I expected from a black market. One by one, things are sold to atrocious-looking men and women. These people have no idea that the place is being surrounded as time passes. The others who have joined in this raid have already bought some proof for the arrest. As the auction was about to reach its end with its last item for sale, my heart stopped.
What was being sold, you ask? It was none other than a girl on a leash…
Immediately, all these men started bidding on her fanatically. The place became louder. For some bizarre reason, I found it upsetting. Was it because the place got louder? Was it because the place got crammed? I don’t know. I don’t understand it…
The bidding took longer than the rest. The price went up and up: ten thousand, fifty thousand, one hundred thousand, five hundred thousand, so on and so forth. After a lot of yelling, the price came up to fifty million, to be sold to a rather obese man. “Well,” I thought to myself, “We have enough evidence here. That girl wouldn’t make much of a difference. Let them have her…”
Before the decision was made, Cliff, who was next beside me, made a more outrageous act. “Fifty billion! Cash!” … I was shocked… He would give that much of money for just a little girl? As the hammer fell down, the girl was handed over to Cliff in return for two briefcases…
As the auction was done, this team came out. As we did, Cliff gave the signal to the rest of the team. Faster than lightning and shadow, the place was stormed. All of these people have been caught off-guard, and was instantly detained. I believe I heard one cry out false arrest, but with all the evidence we already have, he is making a lame excuse.
…
As the criminals were being thrown into a police truck, I found Cliff away from the crowd. He still had the girl with the leash. Again, I was shocked. I saw him release the girl, and bid her farewell. Right then and there, I approached him without knowing, and asked him without thinking.
“Why did you do that?” He raised an eyebrow, and replied. “Did what?” “Release the girl?” “What’s wrong with that?” “You bought her for fifty million, and yet you only let her go?”
Somehow, I knew there was something wrong with what I am saying. He jerked from my words, and shook his head in disbelief. Calmly, he answered “You really think she was worth my money?” I grew silent. I didn’t know what to say. “Even if I paid with all of my riches, I wouldn’t be able to buy her. Some things can never be bought by money. Those things include life, freedom, and happiness”
Life…? Freedom…? Happiness…?
… Rright… That’s right! What was I thinking? How could I think so low?
…
After the operation was declared a success, and rewards given, I sat down on my sofa and began to think deeply. Slowly, I began to realize how I turned out like this. I was going though emotions years ago. It was so painful, that I couldn’t bear it. I had to bury it somehow. That’s when I found that I could do so with money, so I focused only on getting rich. My emotions were locked away deep, yet it still had its effects on the way I think. I began to lose care for anything else.
No, my emotions was never buried. Now that I think about it, I never really got rid of them. I was still living with my emotions in the wrong place and the wrong time…
…
A little while after, the phone began to ring. After a few rings, a soft, petite voice answered. “G-good evening! T-this is Redwood residence! Uh… H-how may I help you?” “Ah, Quincy! It’s me, Remeer.” “Oh! M-master Remeer! G-good evening!” “Yes, good evening. Is Cliff there?” “M-master Cliff? Oh! Uh… W-wait a moment!”
Heheh. I could hear Quincy running off. That girl is a little tense. I hear she’s just starting out with her job. That reminds me. Quincy is the same girl Cliff ‘bought’ years ago. For explanations I haven’t asked yet, Quincy still ended up as his maid. If I may say so, one good deed deserves another.
“Hello?” “Cliff. It’s me.” “Ah! Remeer! What can I do for you?” “Well, it’s like this. A little scuffle that happened here caused a slightly big problem for me.” “Scuffle? You mean your fight with Mardock?” “How did you know that?” “I’m part of the ULE. The public won’t know anything about it, but we would.”
“Right. So, as I was saying, my fight with Mardock destroyed the portal here.” “You are in Alexia right now, right?” “Yes. The problem is Irene won’t be able to get back here.” “Irene? Who’s Irene?” “The girl I mentioned to you. Remember? The one with amnesia?” “Ah! So that’s Irene.” “Yes. At any rate, she might end up there anytime soon. If she does, could you allow her to stay there? I’d pay you for any trouble that she might cause.” “Hey, no problem. You scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours.” “Thank you.”
“Oh, if she gets bored, you can put her on a mission if you like.” “Are you sure? Is she strong enough for ULE missions?” “In my opinion, yes. I trained her myself. In fact, she could probably beat me if she tried.” “I see. I’ll keep that in mind.”
--------------------------------------------------
Anyways, I have my own story for Cliff and Quincy, but that is another story. Think of my made-up stories kind of intertwined with each other.
Anyway, I'm feel my drawing powers coming back to me. I might shuffle between the Fanart and Fanfic sections.

Hmm. This was a particularly charged chapter, only beacuse of the situation within it. The auction of a human seemed to strike home with me rather effectively for some reason, and I cannot figure out why. However, that situation left many ethical questions to the reader, which allows them to keep the fic on their mind for a lot longer than usual.
As for the backstory, I think it'd probably be a good thing if you included it later--as a break in the action. Characters, no matter how minor, should get at least some development, no? _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Chapter 12 – More Friends
Since I couldn’t go to Remi-chan’s place, I decided to take a look around here. This place is a lot bigger than Remi-chan’s house.
I think more than twenty people could live here, but there are fewer than ten here: Cliff, the five maids, and the two grade-school cousins, and that huge white wolf outside. Cliff is the only guy in the whole place. Hmm… I wonder how that would feel? I also wonder why the big house for a small family…
In one whole day, I made friends with all of the maids and the cousins. We’ve talked about a lot of things: stories, gossips, events, rumors, anythin’ that’s not related politics. I have to say that I really clicked with the green-haired and the red-haired maid. The green-haired maid is Noemi. She kinda acts the same way I do. Meanwhile, the red-haired maid is Kobashi. She’s a little silent, but chats just as much as I do.
…
The next day, I came to see and have a talk with Cliff. As I went inside, I saw Noemi sittin’ on a windowpane, checkin’ out a gun. Why does she have a gun? Before I could ask her, I decided to ask Cliff first.
Cliff answered all of my questions, like what his job is, or how he met Remi-chan. As I found out, Cliff is part of the ULE, the Universal Law Enforcers. Before I knew it, he continued by tellin’ what the ULE does and it’s very very VERY long history. The only time he stopped is when I suddenly yawned…
Noemi smirked as she continued to clean that gun she is holdin’, and commented “She’s no longer interested, Master Cliff.” His eyebrow rose as he suddenly glared at Noemi. Before I could react to the long stare, Noemi spoke “What’s the big deal? You are the master of this house. Isn’t that right, Master Cliff?” Cliff grunted on a low voice. “If you call me Master one more time, I won’t pay you this month!” “But how come you allow Quincy to do so?”, answered Noemi with a coy smile. He kept silent afterwards as Noemi started imitatin’ Quincy’s soft voice. She went like “Master Cliff. Master Cliff.” …
Cliff banged his elbows lightly on the table, as if he was givin’ up. “As I was saying,” he continued, “I see that you’re no longer impressed with the history of the ULE.” I stretched out my arms, and yawned one more time. I replied slowly, “Sorry about that. I have a tendency to lose focus when it comes to history lessons. I even fall asleep when Remi-chan does that to me…” Noemi smiled to me, and said “Me too. I never did like history classes.”
…
After some more chattin’, I went out to check the house some more. Noemi decided to show me around. As we walked alon’ this corridor, Noemi and I had continued talkin’. “Uh, Noemi?” “Yes, Irene?” “Why doesn’t Cliff want to be called Master?” “If you asked him that, he’d probably say ‘it makes me feel so old.’” Silence came in again, then we both laughed at the same time, length and pitch. “Then why is Quincy allowed to call him Master?” Noemi looked around, and started whisperin’ to my ear as soon as she found we were alone. “Quincy can’t help it. It’s either she calls him Master, or she don’t call him at all. She thinks it’s ‘discourteous’ not to call him Master, even when Cliff said that it’s alright.” … Cliff gave in, huh…?
What else was I supposed to ask…? Ah! Yes! “Why do you have a gun?” She pulled out the gun she was cleanin’ earlier from her skirt. She answered as she tossed it to me. “I’m part of the ULE as well. This maid’s work is a front for my real job.” “Real job?” “Yeah! I’m actually ULE’s 1st class sniper.” … A sniper…? What’s that? Before I could continue, we both looked at the gun I was holdin’ and she started describin’ it. “Desert Eagle. Imported from Earth. Very very accurate. The latest design comes with a silencer.”
“Enough about us! How about you? Are you any good?”, she said with a lot of challenge in her tone. I was quick enough to react. “Hah! Of course I am! Want to try me out, Noemi?”
…
We headed to a room I’ve never been before. It looks like a trainin’ hall, like the one Remi-chan has in Phara, only bigger. There, I saw Kobashi, the designated cook, practicin’ with a wooden sword. Noemi went to a big box, containin’ a lot of practice weapons. She asked me what weapon I want to use. I told her I’m great with a staff. So, she threw me a staff as she picked up a wooden knife. Heheh. This is gon’na be fun!
As Kobashi sat down on a corner for a break, we immediately charged one another. As my first move, I slammed this staff down on her. Before I knew it, she stepped aside and placed the knife lightly to my side thrice. She looked at me as she jumped away, as if taunting me.
Again, we both charged one another. Now that I know that she is quick to move, I tried to slam down on her again. Before my staff went down, she already stepped aside. Now’s my chance! I pulled my staff from its current attack, and swept her off her feet. As she fell to her butt, I gave a light strike to her stomach. As she stood up, we both laughed a little. This is gettin’ more and more interestin’.
…
Minutes have passed. Noemi and I are really enjoyin’ this fight. Before our next attacks, Noemi’s watch began beepin’. “Oh! It’s time!” Time…? “Uh… Let’s continue this fight some other time. I have to pick up the girls from school. See ya!” She tossed the wooden knife high as she ran, and it landed right in to the weapons box.
Well, that definitely ends my fun for today. Before I could return the weapon I am holdin’, Kobashi came up to me. “The way you hold the staff, you can most likely use a sword.” I suddenly started thinkin’ of what this red-head just said, so I couldn’t reply. “Would you show me how you hold that staff?” “Sure.”
As I did, she looked at my pose from left to right. “Hmm… Yes, that pose is close enough for a sword. You hold that staff in front of you with your right hand, while your grip is a little below the middle. Meanwhile your left hand is prepared for sudden defense.” “Really now?” “Really. Take a look at mine.”
She grabbed a wooden sword, and made her pose. She started comparin’ her pose with mine, along with our moves. It’s kind of funny. We almost move the same way. Maybe Remi-chan has been teachin’ me how to use a sword from the beginnin’…
The day passed a little fast for me. I’ve been talkin’ with these maids with just about everythin’ that I lost track of time. In fact, I didn’t feel any sadness, even though I haven’t seen Remi-chan for 3 days already.
… Suddenly, I miss him… Remi-chan! Hurry up with the portal already! _________________ My deviantART... |
