Well, it's not uncommon for a forum newbie to want to add something to their last post and not realize there's an "Edit" button just above their post to the right.
So why not just add an "Edit Post" button next to "New Post" and "New Topic"? I'm betting it would make the moderators' jobs a bit easier and spare a few n00b flames.
I don't have any experience with PHP (I do know some Java and C++, though, so I'm not completely clueless), but it would be easy to code for two buttons for the same purpose, wouldn't it? |

Well...I think that is hard-coded into the forum. I go to another forum, and it uses a similar mechanism (BBCode). The admins could not add the "Edit Post" button even after repeated attempts to do so.
We may just have to stick with what we have for now. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy

That would be a pity, wouldn't it?
No, I'm not trying to act important or anything by posting that, but it looks good IMO.
Meh, if it's not possible, this thread might as well be locked. I just want to see what a mod or admin thinks about it. |

The edit button is available to you for the last post you made.
The board automatically disallows any other editing unless made by the admin. Without even speaking of it we have never attempted to change this feature, simply because it makes too much sense.

That's my theory anyways XD |
If you need something edited or deleted and you've already made another post, simply PM a mod. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

Well, that wasn't my point, though. I know about the little edit button and whatnot, but I was suggesting a new big one next to the "post reply" button, so that newbies are less likely to unwittingly double-post.
By the sound of it, it doesn't seem like it'll happen, so... meh. |

Er, my point was the same as Tabby's, that was why I quoted her...if everyone can edit, then someone trolling can easily remove blame from themselves. Seems like the risk of noobs double-posting (and if they do, they usually don't even realize they've broken a rule until we come delete it anyway) is more preferable than that. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

I doubt that would work. So many people would miss that even it was up there. _________________ Why am I here |

I still don't see how it could allow a troller to play innocent. It would solely allow people to edit the last post made. If someone were to post after them, it could simply give and error saying, "You do not have permission to edit this post."
If someone were to post something inappropriate, and then immediately edit it out, I don't think that would constitute rule-breaking, as that person would realize a mistake was made and would be correcting their error. Then again, I'm not a moderator, so who am I to say what constitutes what?
Still, the edit button is still available for older posts, so if someone were a diehard troller, I doubt withholding a single button would stop them. The only point of a big edit button at the bottom would be for newbies.
So, that's just what I think. If you don't think it's a good idea, there's really nothing left to say.
(BTW, Tabby made that statement about deleting posts, didn't she?)

I like the pic you got there tho. Maybe would should have it. The edit button isn't hard to miss for members since we go here more and aren't new. |

Yeah, but ignorance is not an excuse and Captain do you know how hard it is to make a edit button up there? It's hard. -.- _________________ Why am I here |

I get what you mean... you want to let users be able to edit the last post they made... but it is pretty hard to track this thing using an oracle database even unless your database is so well designed
I think the individual post editting is the correct way to go =)
Thanks for the suggestion to the mods though... _________________

There should be no excuse for double posting. As long as someone has not posted after you, you can edit your posts. If someone posts after you, then there's no worry about double posting at all.
All of the extra utility buttons are grouped together, there's no reason they shouldn't see it. Making an even bigger one in addition to the one we already have seems like overkill.
Besides, Nobi already has enough to add/alter to the forum as it is. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto
