Okay, a bit of an explanation. Or at least a highly probable hypothesis.
(In short: Probably Japanese medal game. Like Pachinko but use coins. Me stop talking like Tarzan now.)
I think this is one of those Japanese arcade 'medal' games, which is basically a cross between a Pachinko machine and one of those arcade coin-pushers. You insert a coin into the machine, and it's dropped from the top like a ball in Pachinko. And just like Pachinko, you hope the coin goes into a special slot or hole, which usually in turn will cause some kind of interaction on-screen, completely luck-based. The main difference here is, if the coin doesn't do jack squat before draining, it drains into a coin pusher, which basically gives you one last hope of getting a coin or two back, although it's usually rigged with a lip on the front and drains on the sides to make it nearly impossible. The majority of your winnings come from the Pachinko-like section.
Now, the Pachinko section is where it gets interesting. There's usually some kind of a jackpot that you slowly work at in little steps until you win it, at which point your progress is reset and a whole crapload more coins is dumped from the top. This usually involves something along the lines of a pinball-esque 'fill the gauge' or 'light up all the lights' objective, where you have to get something several times and there's a progress meter to track how close you are. Then there's always smaller bonuses, which occur more often and are usually triggered by some luck-based on-screen event that in turn are triggered by a coin going in a specific slot/hole. Just like Pachinko, except there's often a board that you move around. The way these work is, you hit a certain coin slot/hole to roll (or there's sometimes more than one slot/hole), and move ahead the number of spaces you roll (sometimes 0 >_<). Certain spaces in turn give you bonus coins.
If you're ever in Taiwan, department store arcades ALWAYS have a bunch of these, and they're really popular. Except they usually have an 18+ restriction because the coins can be exchanged for cash. (In Japan, they're exchanged for prizes instead. Which in turn often end up being sold for cash, creating an ingenious loophole.) _________________ Math problems? So that means it's a gambling machine, if I'm not mistaken. _________________ "No matter who you look like...It's still you. You're pathetic...I'm not going to fool for your images. Because People Are Made Of Heart!" |

They've created an ingenious loophole by only allowing redeeming for prizes, then often having a convenient place around the corner where you can sell them back for cash. Thus, people can play them without gambling (like our arcade ticket games), and those that do want to gamble can.
On the other hand, they have the exact same machines in Taiwan (you wouldn't believe how many of those things they import), but since coins are exchanged directly for cash, it's gambling.
Basically, same machine, different uses for the coins that come out. So it's only gambling depending on how it's used. _________________ Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x]. |

So in other words, its totally useless for someone like me who just wants to put a few quarters (or tokens) into an EXE arcade machine and run around busting viruses? -_-;
They could at least make it so your token may fall into a certain slot and become a chip or a power-up. I don't want gambling, I want action durnit! I wonder if there is an EXE pinball machine... Anyone ever seen Baby Pacman? It was a Pacman pinball machine that combined a bit of Pacman game play with pinball. It had an arcade monitor as well as a pinball frame. You just switched from one to the other at different points, depending on where the ball went. Maybe they could do that or something... I'd import one. If I had the money. _________________ Power wielded by incompetance leads to nothing but self destruction. |
