Stream #51 - "Towards A New Future!" - *spoilers*

Now that I've seen the movie, Stream makes a lot more sense. XP Huzzah. Any errors in the translation, feel free to fix. I want to extend a very special thanks to Izu for helping me out in some trouble spots. On to the finale!

Inside the Dimensional Area, the Cross Fusion members are finishing off what's left of the Asteroid intruders. Inside the facility, Yuuichirou is surprised to hear that Forte has broken into the Past Tunnel, and has confronted Slur.

Indeed, the two have begun their ferocious battle. Forte flings off his "Hells Rolling!" attack, which Slur nimbly dodges. "It's useless!" she points out, as she raises a hand and entangles Forte in the wires that had been his undoing before. Forte struggles for a moment, then raises his head and sneers at her.

"I told you...I'm completely different from before!"

With a yell, Forte flings off the wires, ultimately surprising Slur. Meijin relays that while Slur is occupied with Forte, someone else has accessed Duo's comet.

Outside, Netto fires off a Charged Shot, while Barrel blasts his "Colonel Cannon!" At last the battlefield is completely empty of enemies. The two look up at the sky as the Dimensional Area fades, and everyone falls out of Cross Fusion.

Netto turns around, looking up at his long lost friend. "I told you we'd meet again," Barrel says. "That's right..." Netto replies with a smile. "But why do you have a synchro chip?"

Barrel informs Netto that he was given the chip by Dr. Wily. Netto hears the blasting of a car horn from the bridge above, and spots his father. He's rather in a hurry to have everyone join him inside the facility.

Episode Title - "Towards A New Future!"

30 years in the past, Duo's comet, which is still embedded in the Earth, pulsates with power. Inside the comet's core, Regal reappears, claiming what he was reborn have. Stating he will live on inside the core, Regal spreads the Crests of Duo around the main center, and uses his own Crest as an entry key to be allowed direct access.

Meanwhile, Forte pounds Slur directly with his fist inside the Past Tunnel. The two meet again, blades in hand, barring to kill the other. Slur doesn't understand where Forte's newfound power comes from. It just so happens that Forte absorbed what was left of Nebula Grey! Absolutely stunned, Slur's blade finally shatters. Forte proclaims his victory as the two form into balls of energy and collide once again.

Unfortunately, the amount of energy the two are expending are about to break through the Past Gate. Spiraling out of control, they collide directly into the gate itself, relaying heavy damage to the facility in the real world.

In the cyber world, Slur stands alone, bruised and tired. Even her eyes seem to have lost any kind of willpower to keep fighting. This one lone moment of solitude is broken as Forte's fist breaks through her chest, having dived straight through her back. "Damn you...net navi of the Earth!", Slur sputters defiantly, though in pain. Forte simply places the same fist over her face, ordering her to "dissappear". With that, Forte completes Slur's deletion.

With the Past Gate now damaged, the cross fusion team is pondering how they can stop Duo's countdown to demise. Yuuichirou, Meijin and Barrel step down from the gate itself, surveying the damage. While waiting around, Charlie approaches Tesla to try and give her back the ring she had once left behind, but she's not paying much attention. It would seem that Barrel has caught her eye. n.n; Poor Charlie.

With the Gate now destroyed, there's no way for them to access Duo's comet, which is stuck 30 years in the past. Netto becomes rather frustrated, pointing out that Barrel too has to have some way to get home. When no options are present, Netto curses then calls Duo an idiot. ^^;

As Netto clentches his fists in angry, the Crest of Duo begins to shine on his palm. It's reacting to something! It's not just Netto's Crest either - the other members also begin to have the same reaction. Soon enough, the entire room is envoloped in a bright light - coming from the Past Gate. Meijin and Yuuichirou quickly go to their computers, and Meijin pinpoints the energy coming from 30 years in the past - Duo's comet to be precise.

"Lets go, to Duo's comet!" proclaims Netto. However, a familiar voice tells him there's no point. To their own horror, a large image of Dr. Regal appears admist the bright light of the Gate! Dr. Regal laughs at everyone's shock, then proclaims he has suspended Duo's countdown in order to use his technology and power to rule over the world, just like he had originally planned.

By this time Laika and Enzan figure out that Regal is now in complete possession of Duo's comet. Regal has become completely mad with power - there's nothing left to stop him! Except Netto of course, who berates Regal and says he'll do just that. Regal laughs, then gathers all his rage as his enlarged head breaks free from the light - attached to a rather creepy and large snakelike tail.

Meijin activates a Dimensional Area straight away, as more of Regal's gel-like minions sprout from the ground as well. All of the good guys waste no time in performing Cross Fusion - including Barrel who now gets a pretty henshin sequence this time.

With everyone transformed, they face against the gigantic Dr. Regal head/snake/thingy and his army of gel-minions.

Eyecatch! Rockman & Netto.

The battle quickly moves to outside of the facility - Netto, Enzan, Miyabi and Barrel all using sword attacks against the gel monsters. Regal comes bursting through the building, firing giant red laser beams from his eyes (I joke you not). Laika uses his scope gun against him, but his blast just goes right through Regal's head, doing no damage as the head reforms itself again.

Regal dives in, causing Meiru to scream as she tries to get out of the way. Unfortunately she's not fast enough, and is caught in Regal's snake grasp! Regal yells at them that the battle is useless as he slowly crushes Meiru. "With this technology, I am a God!"

As Regal is laughing in triumph, the energy supplying his power is suddenly cut off abruptly. Duo's voice rings out from the distance - he's not happy that someone is trying to use him this way. As such, he promptly kicks Regal right out of his energy core! In the present time, Regal's head screams in anguish, and his monsters fade away. The snake-head recoils back inside the building, and flies into the Past Gate - taking Meiru-chan with him!

Hesitating not a moment, Netto screams out Meiru's name as he runs straight into the light of the gate, following his comrade and Regal. "We'll go too!", yells Barrel, and so all of the others follow suit, diving into the gate headfirst.

At that moment, Duo's comet detonates. The Earth is completely destroyed - and Netto's future is obliterated. One by one, their family and friends are enveloped by a white light as they are erased from history, never to exist.

Duo's comet flies away from the broken shards of the Earth, on a venture to find a new world. Inside the comet's cyberworld, Meiru lays unconcious, still in Cross Fusion. Netto's voice calls out to her as he runs to her side, and picks her up in his arms. Meiru slowly opens her eyes, and Netto is relieved to see that she has not been harmed.

Meiru quietly asks where they are, and Yuriko's voice answers. "Duo's comet." Netto is surprised to see everyone there, just as Enzan spots another familiar figure laying facedown nearby. It's Regal! Or at least, what's left of him. Enzan grimances as he turns him over - only to reveal a shriveled skeleton.

Duo: "Give in to Duo's judgement."

All of the members are confronted at last by the one who gave them their Crests - Duo himself. "Look at your future," Duo states, as he shows them the current image of their world. Nothing remains but the moon and fragments of rubble. "Your universe became extinct", he tells them.

Everyone is stunned as they look at their beloved home, which no longer exists. "Our...Earth?" Netto numbly asks.

Duo: "Cross Fusion...."

Gaining their attention once again, Duo explains that the single ability to use Cross Fusion has saved their own lives. However, everyone else has suffered a dismal fate. This of course doesn't set very well with those who survived the world annhilation - so much so that Barrel flies off on the offensive against Duo!

Duo of course smacks down Barrel rather easily with his power. Barrel urges everyone to fight, either for revenge or to save a world that may no longer exist, he doesn't know for sure. But everyone agrees that Duo must be defeated no matter what.

"Lets fight, everyone!" yells Netto, urging on as everyone leaps up into the air to face against Duo. Unfortunately, before they can even fire one attack, Duo flings every last one of them back with a gigantic blast. Each fighters crashes to the ground, unable to even move. Netto barely lifts up his head, his vision blurred as he looks up at Duo.

Oddly enough, Netto's Crest begins to glow once again. This time however, the Crest rises out of his hand, and shatters. "The crest...is...." Netto passes out before he can finish his sentance. Everyone else's Crests begin to do the same - vanishing one by one.

Duo: "Wake up...."

After the Crests are removed, Duo seperates each member from the net navis as well, dissolving their Cross Fusions. Each navi stands by their fallen operator's side, and in unison they open their eyes, finding themselves staring directly at Duo.

Rockman immediatly kneels down by Netto's side, calling his name. Netto very slowly opens his eyes, obviously in pain. However, he gives a smile for his concerned navi. "Thank goodness....," states Rock, happy to see him still alive. In turn we see Roll holding a smiling Meiru, and Blues with his Enzan-sama. Each navi cradles their operators with care.

Duo: "Navis....submit your alleigance to Duo."
Searchman: "Alleigance?!"

Duo offers each of them an option: Either travel with him, or be deleted. There is no future left for them there, as the future network no longer exists. They have no need of the humans which enslaved them so either.

Rockman: "I won't....I won't let go of Netto-kun. Even in the case that we're deleted...."
Roll: "....I want to be with Meiru-chan!"

Duo doesn't comprehend why each Navi begins to speak up for their human operators. According to him, each one of them are responsible for all of the darkness conceived in the world. But somehow, their navis still supported them. Why?

Rockman: "Because we like humans! Because I need Netto-kun!"

Rockman and Blues can't understand why Duo won't accept that navis and humans are bonded by love and friendship. It's because of those bonds that they can presevere through anything. "Then what is Cross Fusion?", asks Duo curiously. "A union between navi and human!", replies Roll.

Even though this is all very interesting to Duo, he doesn't think it important. Since they have rejected his offer, he resolves that their only fate lies in deletion.

"Wait!", yells Netto, rising from his position on the ground. "I won't accept that..." states Netto, as Rock helps steady him on his feet. "I won't let you delete Rockman and everyone else!" One by one, the other humans also get back to their feet, standing protectively in front of their navis.

"Why?", asks Duo, unbelieving that humans would sacrifice themselves for the sole reason of protecting their navis. "That's why I told you," replies Netto. "Humans and navis are friends! Friends protect each other!"

"That does not calculate", states Duo, devoid of any reaction. "It's no use, Netto-kun," Barrel says matter of factly, walking past the young boy and his navi, who refuses to let go of him still. "Duo cannot calculate any sort of love or emotion."

"However, there is still another way," says Barrel, as he looks up at Duo, then down at Netto. "Cross Fusion."

"Cross Fusion?" asks Netto, confused. "Sou...a union with a human....with me." Everyone is absolutely shocked at what Barrel is suggesting. "Fuse with Duo?!" asks Laika, unbelieving. "What are you saying, Barrel-san?" demands Netto, still by his side.

"You are now empty, Duo! Take me as your captive! I will go with you! Fuse with me!", yells out Barrel to the large navi as he begins to walk towards him. (I think this may refer to either Duo's loss of Slur, or may in fact be that Duo was once involved with Cross Fusion, as shown in past flashbacks to his original world.)

"Don't do it, Barrel-san!" yells out Netto frantically. "Don't go!" Netto breaks free from Rockman's grasp, running towards Barrel. Duo intervenes, blasting right in Netto's path, halting him. Rockman catches back up with his operator again, and holds him down.

"Very interesting...." states Duo. "You wish to use Cross Fusion with another lifeform such as myself?"

"That's right", responds Barrel, walking further ahead. Barrel's navi Colenel has been following behind, and politely asks to join him. Barrel just smiles, accepting the companionship of his friend. Together, they walk towards a new future, both for themselves and the race of humanity. Netto yells after Barrel with tears in his eyes, held back only by Rockman who refuses to still let go.

Hearing Netto's voice, Barrel turns back to the boy he had come to know and respect. "Don't worry, Netto-kun! I'm the immortal Barrel!" With his final words and a smile, Barrel and Colonel are wrapped in Duo's light, and sucked into the giant navi's body.

Duo gives only a slight murmer as he unites with the human and other navi, radiately an extreme amount of light during the process. With the deal now complete, Duo fades away, and the Earth's future is reversed, erasing any notion of its ultimate destruction.

As if no time had even passed, the Gate in present time emits a shock of light. Meijin and Yuuichirou gaze ahead as one by one, the Cross Fusion members reappear unharmed. Netto is the first to set foot safely back on the ground, and goes straight ahead to his overjoyed father. "Papa...."

Before any more words can be spoken, an alarm sounds out from their computers. Meijin informs them that a transmission is emitting from the Past Tunnel.

Voice: "Netto-kun......"
Netto: "Barrel-san! You're safe!"

The image on the monitor finally clears, but the face upon it is not what they expect. True, it is their friend Barrel, but he has aged a great deal.

Netto: "Barrel-san?"
Barrel: "It's been awhile, Netto-kun. You're the same as I remember."
Enzan: "But weren't you...fused with Duo?!"
Barrel: "Yes...as I was fused with Duo, we experienced many universes. Such wonderful experiences...."
Netto: "Barrel-san!'
Barrel: "Don't forget, Netto-kun....I am the immortal Barrel!"

Again with his famous words, Barrel's transmission finally comes to an end.

Outside, Netto stands on the rooftop of the Science Labs, peacefully watching the sunset. With his PET in his hands, Netto talks with his navi Rockman. Apparantly nobody who was left on Earth remembers their world being temporarily destroyed by Duo. Netto thinks it odd, but is rather happy that his future still exists.

On the same notion, because nobody remembers, Netto wonders if the whole ordeal was nothing but a dream. He remembers it clearly, but it just doesn't seem to have even happened. "It wasn't a dream," Rockman pipes up. "It was real."

Netto: "That's right.....and we won't forget....Duo's orders....and also, for Barrel's sake too."

Down below, a cheerful group of voices call out Netto's name. "You're slow!" yells out Dekao, who's waving to him. "The fireworks are about to start!", proclaims Meiru, wearing a cute pink kimono. "Hurry! Hurry-chu!" chimes out Chisao, more than ready to go.

"Yeah!" yells back Netto, "I'm coming right away!"

-Netto, Meiru and his friends watch a beautiful firework display held by Nenji. Even Netto's mother has joined them!

-Dingo and Shanka cling their tomahawks together, promise fulfilled.

-Jasmine returns to Choina, happy to be home.

-Mariko and Yuriko embrace each other, the cute little kitten within their arms as well.

-Tesla and Charlie share a drink on the beach!

-Photo of Netto and co. in their swimsuits on the beach - alas no Laika or Enzan.

-Said photo is in a frame on Princess Pride's desk, which she picks up and blushes at as she smiles.

-Laika smiling as he plays in the snow with his cute little dog.

-Anneta pulls on one arm, while Yaito yanks on the other. Poor Enzan is caught right in the middle. n.n;

-Dark Miyabi's eating curry at Maha Ichiban! All of the former World 3 members are also present, watching Miyabi with amusement.

"That does not calculate", states Duo, devoid of any reaction. "It's no use, Netto-kun," Barrel says matter of factly, walking past the young boy and his navi, who refuses to let go of him still. "Duo cannot calculate any sort of love or emotion."

"However, there is still another way," says Barrel, as he looks up at Duo, then down at Netto. "Cross Fusion."

"Cross Fusion?" asks Netto, confused. "Sou...a union with a human....with me." Everyone is absolutely shocked at what Barrel is suggesting. "Fuse with Duo?!" asks Laika, unbelieving. "What are you saying, Barrel-san?" demands Netto, still by his side.

"You are now empty, Duo! Take me as your captive! I will go with you! Fuse with me!", yells out Barrel to the large navi as he begins to walk towards him. (I think this may refer to either Duo's loss of Slur, or may in fact be that Duo was once involved with Cross Fusion, as shown in past flashbacks to his original world.)

"Don't do it, Barrel-san!" yells out Netto frantically. "Don't go!" Netto breaks free from Rockman's grasp, running towards Barrel. Duo intervenes, blasting right in Netto's path, halting him. Rockman catches back up with his operator again, and holds him down.

"Very interesting...." states Duo. "You wish to use Cross Fusion with another lifeform such as myself?"

"That's right", responds Barrel, walking further ahead. Barrel's navi Colenel has been following behind, and politely asks to join him. Barrel just smiles, accepting the companionship of his friend. Together, they walk towards a new future, both for themselves and the race of humanity. Netto yells after Barrel with tears in his eyes, held back only by Rockman who refuses to still let go.

Hearing Netto's voice, Barrel turns back to the boy he had come to know and respect. "Don't worry, Netto-kun! I'm the immortal Barrel!" With his final words and a smile, Barrel and Colonel are wrapped in Duo's light, and sucked into the giant navi's body.

Duo gives only a slight murmer as he unites with the human and other navi, radiately an extreme amount of light during the process. With the deal now complete, Duo fades away, and the Earth's future is reversed, erasing any notion of its ultimate destruction.

As if no time had even passed, the Gate in present time emits a shock of light. Meijin and Yuuichirou gaze ahead as one by one, the Cross Fusion members reappear unharmed. Netto is the first to set foot safely back on the ground, and goes straight ahead to his overjoyed father. "Papa...."

Before any more words can be spoken, an alarm sounds out from their computers. Meijin informs them that a transmission is emitting from the Past Tunnel.

Voice: "Netto-kun......"
Netto: "Barrel-san! You're safe!"

The image on the monitor finally clears, but the face upon it is not what they expect. True, it is their friend Barrel, but he has aged a great deal.

Netto: "Barrel-san?"
Barrel: "It's been awhile, Netto-kun. You're the same as I remember."
Enzan: "But weren't you...fused with Duo?!"
Barrel: "Yes...as I was fused with Duo, we experienced many universes. Such wonderful experiences...."
Netto: "Barrel-san!'
Barrel: "Don't forget, Netto-kun....I am the immortal Barrel!"

Again with his famous words, Barrel's transmission finally comes to an end.

Outside, Netto stands on the rooftop of the Science Labs, peacefully watching the sunset. With his PET in his hands, Netto talks with his navi Rockman. Apparantly nobody who was left on Earth remembers their world being temporarily destroyed by Duo. Netto thinks it odd, but is rather happy that his future still exists.

On the same notion, because nobody remembers, Netto wonders if the whole ordeal was nothing but a dream. He remembers it clearly, but it just doesn't seem to have even happened. "It wasn't a dream," Rockman pipes up. "It was real."

Netto: "That's right.....and we won't forget....Duo's orders....and also, for Barrel's sake too."

Down below, a cheerful group of voices call out Netto's name. "You're slow!" yells out Dekao, who's waving to him. "The fireworks are about to start!", proclaims Meiru, wearing a cute pink kimono. "Hurry! Hurry-chu!" chimes out Chisao, more than ready to go.

"Yeah!" yells back Netto, "I'm coming right away!"

Ending credits!

-Netto, Meiru and his friends watch a beautiful firework display held by Nenji. Even Netto's mother has joined them!

-Dingo and Shanka cling their tomahawks together, promise fulfilled.

-Jasmine returns to Choina, happy to be home.

-Mariko and Yuriko embrace each other, the cute little kitten within their arms as well.

-Tesla and Charlie share a drink on the beach!

-Photo of Netto and co. in their swimsuits on the beach - alas no Laika or Enzan.

-Said photo is in a frame on Princess Pride's desk, which she picks up and blushes at as she smiles.

-Laika smiling as he plays in the snow with his cute little dog.

-Anneta pulls on one arm, while Yaito yanks on the other. Poor Enzan is caught right in the middle. n.n;

-Dark Miyabi's eating curry at Maha Ichiban! All of the former World 3 members are also present, watching Miyabi with amusement.

-Pan shot of all of their navis together in a row.

-Rockman faces towards us, and looks upwards, his image replaced slowly by Netto's.

-Final shot of everyone together!

i first thought Forte found some of Gospels data that survived (like the exe3 ending), but Nebula Grey dtata is good too.
poor Dr regal, i knew him well wish they didnt killed him off.

Hmm.

Based on the summary, there should be a lot of questions that are answered, but for some reason, I'm still seeing a lot of loose ends remaining untied. Does the movie really serve to patch the rest of the holes in Stream's story?

Anyway...it does sound like a fabulous episode, and I'm sure I will see it in due time. However, Stream's notion of tinkering with time-travel was a little off for me. This instance of a parallel future, and the return to the status quo seemed a bit too simple--and perhaps that is a good thing, to ensure that paradoxes don't rear their ugly heads. Other than that, it sounded to be a decent ending.
