Ooh, Jikan And Roll.
So, next should... be Ed and GrandMan, right? or was it Netto and Spectrum? Ah... Confusion sucks. _________________ If you're reading this, it's obvious you have nothing much to do. |

I already explained. Jikan is an RPG cameo.
----------------------------
CHAPTER 3-22
The First Victim
Phantom leapt back as his opponent smashed into the spot he had been standing in only moments ago. Greg watched the action on his PET display with a glimmer in his eyes. He turned his attention to the large man he was battling against and smirked.
“Looks like this battle is mine.”
“Not if we can do anything about it!” his opponent growled, “Attack, BeastMan!” Inside the battle grid, Phantom moved to the side as a pair of sharp claws came at him.
“You’re mine!” BeastMan growled as he leapt towards his opponent and thrust out his arm. Phantom brought up his shuriken and blocked the attack. He twisted his arm and swung to the side, freeing himself from the savage Navi’s grasp, before jumping back.
“Wild Rush!” BeastMan detached his arms and head from his body and they flew towards Phantom with wild speed.
“Hold your ground, Phantom,” Greg whispered to his Navi, “Let him hit you.” Phantom stood still as the claws struck him hard and left deep gashes in his body. Finally, BeastMan’s head rammed into his chest and Greg logged him out.
PHANTOM LOGGING OUT
BeastMan roared victoriously as his Battle Point counter rose by one while his opponent’s dropped by the same amount.
“Good job, BeastMan.” Inukai grinned and looked as Greg approached him.
“You deserve it,” the black-clad fanatic said as he handed over his rarest chip: the Crest of Arcadia. Inukai took it from him and looked at it. With that taken care of, he then turned around and left. Greg chuckled a bit as he took out his PET and contacted Saiba.
“I’ve just distributed my Crest of Arcadia to my first victim,” he reported.
“Good work,” Saiba replied, “Keep him in your sights. Don’t make a move until he’s used the Crest.”
“Got it.” Greg shut off the com system and began to tail Inukai.
* * *
“Attack now, Axl!” Sean ordered. There was a flash of light and Axl appeared behind his opponent, his left arm equipped with a HeroSword held straight out to his side.
“You’re finished.” He closed his eyes and smirked as his opponent collapsed and logged out.
“Kyaaaaaaaa! How could I lose?” Sean walked over to his opponent and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Look, we only wagered two Battle Points. You’re still in the game. And maybe you can win a chip rarer than the one you just lost.” After he calmed down, Sean’s opponent reached into his pack and fished out a chip.
“Here’s my rarest chip. Please take care of it.” Sean accepted the chip and nodded reassuringly.
“Don’t worry. I will.” The two NetBattlers parted ways and went off to search for new challenges.
“That’s a total of fifteen Battle Points!” Axl exclaimed, “And check out the rare chip we just got!”
“I know, Axl,” Sean replied, “How often does one come across a Phoenix chip?”
“Higsby would be ecstatic. Hell, he’d go insane!”
“Kind of makes me wonder how he’s fairing in the tournament,” Sean said thoughtfully.
“For the sake of his own mental health, he better be kicking ass,” Axl replied.
“Well, we’ve stayed in this MetroStation challenging anyone who gets off a train long enough. Want to head outside?”
“Makes no difference to me.” Sean climbed the stairs leading out of the station and exited into the calm countryside atmosphere of Yoka. Being a rural community, he didn’t expect many people to be there. His assumption proved to be correct. The only tournament participants in the area were at the Ura Inn’s gift shop battling against Tamako.
“Sean, why are we here?” Axl asked, “There’s virtually nobody here to challenge.”
“Just thought we’d take a break for a bit,” Sean answered. Admission to the Yoka Zoo was free due to the tournament, so Sean just walked right in and looked at the animals as he wandered around. Just about all of them were either sleeping or wandering around in their habitats.
“It’s pretty quiet today,” Sean noticed.
“Maybe it’s because nobody’s here,” Axl muttered. Sean walked over to the lion habitat and watched the majestic creatures sun themselves on the rocks.
* * *
Several zoo employees were sitting in the office keeping tabs on all the animals when there was a knock on the door. One of them got up and went to answer it. But when he opened the door, there was a gasp.
“Y-you’re…” There was a thump and the zoo worker fell to the floor. The others got out of their seats and watched as Inukai stepped into the control room.
“You’re Inukai!” they exclaimed.
“What are you doing here?” one of them demanded.
“I just decided to stop by for old times’ sake.” Inukai grinned and cracked his whip. The zoo workers screamed as the large man’s pet lion, Monosuke, walked into the room and roared. Without a moment’s hesitation, they quickly scrambled to get away through the window. By the time things calmed down, Inukai and Monosuke were the only ones left in the room.
“That was too easy.” Inukai pointed his PET at the terminal and jacked in BeastMan. Once inside, the wild Navi leapt at the security Navis and swung his claws at them. They fell one by one and were deleted instantaneously.
“Time for a bit of animal mayhem.” BeastMan walked up to the control panel and thrust his claws deep into it.
* * *
“Sean, shouldn’t we get back in the tournament now?” asked Axl.
“Just a bit longer,” answered the grey-haired teen.
“But I’m bored!”
“Alright, fine.” Sean turned and prepared to leave. But just as he was about to exit the zoo, he heard a loud crash coming from behind him. He turned his head and saw that the gorillas had just broken out of their habitat. The snakes slid out from their cages while the lions leapt over the fencing that kept them in and the elephants trampled their way out. As for the panda, he just stayed put.
“Axl, we’ve got a problem,” Sean informed his Navi.
“Head to the control room.” The crimson-eyed teen quickly ran towards the indicated destination and found a large lion standing guard outside the door. It roared as he came near and he stopped dead in his tracks.
“We have to get past that lion,” Sean growled.
“Sean, maybe we can get it to move,” Axl suggested, “You can’t fight it off as you are now. But maybe…”
“I think I know what you’re talking about.” Sean took out his PET and clicked it onto his wristband. He then took out his Synchro Chip and slipped it into the chip slot.
“Synchro Chip, in!”
“CROSS FUSION!”
Once the process had completed, R Axl ran towards Monosuke. The massive lion roared and charged towards him. The two of them met halfway and they struggled to push back the other.
“Damn, this guy’s strong,” R Axl muttered as he tried to overpower the beast while trying to avoid his jaws at the same time.
“Sean, watch out!” Axl yelled. R Axl looked down and saw Monosuke’s paw swing towards him. He released his hold and jumped back, avoiding the claws just in time.
“There has to be something we can use to end this quickly,” Axl said thoughtfully. However, there wasn’t much time to think as Monosuke suddenly leapt at them with his maw wide open.
“GoldFist Battlechip!” R Axl’s right pistol disappeared and his arm became encased in gold armor. He raised his arm to block and Monosuke’s jaws closed around it. He chewed as hard as he could, but not even his fangs could penetrate the GoldFist.
“What’s the matter, you poor bastard? Can’t get a good taste?” R Axl poured all his strength into his arm muscles as he raised the beast up and kicked him back. He panted heavily as his hand changed back.
“Wait. Animals are afraid of fire!” R Axl realized, “FlameLine1 Battlechip!” His pistol morphed into a ValGear’s head and he fired. A wall of flames rose up between him and Monosuke. True to his strategy, the massive lion growled and backed away.
“I have you now.” R Axl jumped over the flames and landed next to Monosuke. He got down on his knees and with all his strength, lifted him off the ground. The enormous cat struggled to get free, but to no avail. R Axl moved as fast as he could to the nearest undamaged habitat and threw Monosuke in. The lion growled as he got up, but couldn’t get out. The Net Savior breathed a deep breath of relief and crossed out.
“That was close,” Sean muttered.
“What have you done?” The young NetBattler turned around and saw Inukai standing before him.
“It’s you,” he muttered.
“What have you done to Monosuke?” Inukai demanded again.
“What are YOU doing here?” Sean shot back, “You sent these animals on a rampage, didn’t you? And that lion of yours was in my way, so I had to move him.” Inukai gritted his teeth and growled angrily.
“Having a kid like you stop my plans is one thing. But when you attack Monosuke like that, that’s where I draw the line!”
“I’m not a kid! I’m nineteen!” Suddenly, Inukai’s expression changed when he saw Sean’s Battle Point chip sticking out from his pocket.
“You’re in the tournament, aren’t you?” he asked, “Maybe we can settle this with a match.”
“Fine by me. Jack in!! Axl, power up!”
“Jack in!! BeastMan, power up!”
The two Navis were beamed at each other’s PETs and a battle grid was formed. Axl landed on the red side and BeastMan appeared on the blue side.
“So you’re BeastMan.” Axl smirked and brought up his guard, “Let’s see if you’re as tough as they say you are.” BeastMan only growled in response.
“Battle Point chip in, download!” Inukai and Sean inserted their chips and the counters appeared. Both of them had fifteen Battle Points.
“I wager all fifteen of my Battle Points,” Inukai declared, “The sooner I get a hundred, the sooner I can get into the finals.”
“So you’re putting everything on the line then. Fine, I accept that wager.” Sean turned to his PET display and looked at Axl, “You ready?”
“Let’s get it on!” Axl yelled.
“Battle routine, set!”
“Execute!”
“I’ll tear you into shreds!”
BATTLE START
BeastMan wasted no time in attacking as he leapt towards Axl with unparalleled fury. The young Navi jumped back to avoid getting slashed, but his opponent continued his advance, swinging his claws with every chance he had.
He’s fast, he thought as he ducked another swing.
“This is for revenge for Monosuke,” Inukai announced, “Keep attacking, BeastMan!” BeastMan roared and continued his onslaught.
“I can’t keep dodging him forever!” Axl exclaimed, “Sean, I need something and I need it now!”
“I’ve just found one,” Sean informed his Navi, “AntiDamage Battlechip in, download!”
BeastMan swung again and his claws sliced through Axl. His target suddenly transformed into a dummy and dropped onto the floor while the real Axl appeared overhead and threw a shuriken down at him. BeastMan jumped back to avoid getting hit and landed a distance away.
“Now you can attack him,” Sean said, “BeastMan’s attacks are all close-range, so they’re only useful within a certain distance.”
“Thanks, Sean. Now things are in my favor. Axl Gun!” Axl fired several shots at his opponent, but BeastMan dashed away with amazing speed, his movements almost making it seem like he was teleporting around the arena.
“He’s too fast! We have to slow him down somehow!” Axl growled.
“Axl, get ready to hover,” Sean ordered.
“Huh? Why?”
“Just do it!”
“Okay.” Axl extended his wings and jumped up.
“Geddon2 Battlechip in, download!” As soon as Axl was airborne, all the panels were destroyed, leaving only a small bit of land left for BeastMan to stand on. Axl grinned when he saw his opponent’s position.
“AntiDamage, AntiNavi, Muramasa Battlechip in, download!” Sean inserted all three chips into his PET and it quickly registered them.
“Bodyguard!” Axl thrust his arm down and several shurikens flew down from above and struck BeastMan.
“We won’t let that stop us,” Inukai growled, “Aura Battlechip in, download!” A yellow glow surrounded BeastMan’s body and the rest of the shurikens rebounded harmlessly off him.
“MetalStage Battlechip in, download!” Inukai inserted another chip and the entire battle grid suddenly transformed. All the panels returned and they immediately changed into cold steel.
“Now you can’t try that move again!” BeastMan roared as he launched himself at Axl.
“NorthWind Battlechip in, download! WideBlade Battlechip in, download!” A strong wind blew towards BeastMan and dissipated his Aura. Axl’s left hand then morphed into a WideBlade and he brought it up just in time to block his opponent’s claws. He pushed forward with all his might and sent him back. The wild Navi jumped a few more meters away and growled.
“Wild Rush!” BeastMan’s head and arms detached from his body and flew at Axl with savage speed.
“LifeAura Battlechip in, download!” A purple glow surrounded Axl’s body and protected him from the attack. With a grin etched on his face, he swung his WideBlade and knocked the body parts back, causing them to reattach themselves to the body.
“Looks like we’re doing pretty good, huh?” Sean asked.
“This isn’t over yet.” Inukai reached into his vest pocket and pulled out a shining white chip. Sean recognized it immediately.
“Inukai, wait!” he yelled, “Don’t use that chip!”
“Crest of Arcadia Battlechip in, download!” Inukai slotted in the chip and a column of white light surrounded BeastMan’s body. The wild Navi roared loudly as his power increased dramatically. When the light finally died down, he leaned forward and glared at Axl.
“This…is true power.” He laughed evilly as the Crest of Arcadia formed on his forehead.
“Sean, something’s wrong,” Axl noted, “Doesn’t the Crest of Arcadia usually replace the Navi’s icon?”
“You noticed it, too?” asked Sean. There wasn’t any time for more discussion on the subject as BeastMan suddenly leapt at him and swung out with his arms. Axl jumped back and his opponent slammed his claws into the floor, creating a large crater.
“He’s incredible!” Axl exclaimed.
“BLARG!” BeastMan leapt up towards the redheaded Navi and slashed at him.
“BeastMan, hit him from behind!” Inukai ordered. Despite his commands, his Navi continued his viscous attack.
“What’s going on?” he demanded, “BeastMan is ignoring my orders!”
“I told you not to use that chip,” Sean growled, “Axl, be extra careful! The Crest of Arcadia has somehow affected BeastMan in a way different from Phantom. It seems to have made him go berserk.”
“It’s not as easy as you think!” Axl replied as he continued to back away from the enraged BeastMan. The feral Navi growled and launched another Wild Rush. His limbs came hard and fast, giving Axl no time to react. He was struck hard and thrown back.
“Axl!”
“I’m fine, Sean.” The young Navi stood back up and clutched his side, “But we have to do something. If BeastMan gets loose, one can only imagine the destruction he’ll cause. And if others Navis have been affected, who knows what’ll happen.”
“We don’t have a choice, Axl. We have to do it. AquaGospel Battlechip in, download!” Sean slid the chip into his PET and Axl brought his hand as it morphed into Gospel’s head. He opened the mouth and pointed it at BeastMan. A drop of cyber-sweat ran down the side of his face as a blue glow began to build up in the back of the throat.
“BLARG! RARGH!” BeastMan suddenly jumped into the air and came down on Axl from above. He struck him with full force and created a large crater while causing the Gospel head to disappear as well. Axl found himself pinned against the floor with two of his opponent’s claws on either side of his neck.
“Sean! Hurry!” he yelled.
“AreaGrab Battlechip in, download!” Sean quickly dragged and dropped the chip and Axl’s colors inverted as he teleported out of his enemy’s grasp. BeastMan pulled his claws out of the floor and roared as he turned and faced the redhead.
“Let’s try this again,” Sean declared, “WoodGospel Battlechip in, download!” A new Gospel head formed and Axl brought it forward. BeastMan snarled as he leapt towards him at top speed.
“Wood Gospel Breath!” A massive green beam erupted from the mouth and headed straight towards BeastMan. The feral Navi roared and jumped out of the way before resuming his onslaught.
“He dodged it!” Axl exclaimed. His Gospel head disappeared and he quickly backed away to avoid getting skewered on his opponent’s claws.
“We need something with a much wider range,” Sean said thoughtfully.
“Sean, we can’t hold back,” Axl informed his operator, “We have to go all out. No mercy. I don’t care about winning this battle, anymore. I just want to survive it.” There was a moment of silence as Sean stood with his head bowed, his bangs shadowing his eyes. Finally, he looked up.
“Alright. Let’s do it.” Sean reached into his pocket and pulled out three chips, “Get as far away from BeastMan as possible!”
“Don’t need to tell me twice!” Axl jumped over BeastMan’s claws just as they came at him again and jumped on his opponent’s arm. He quickly bounced off it onto his head and pushed himself away, kicking BeastMan forward a few feet headfirst. He landed on the floor behind his opponent and turned around.
“Give it to me now, Sean!”
“BassV3 Battlechip in, download!” A black aura surrounded Axl’s body as the outline of Bass’ icon entered his body.
“AntiNavi Battlechip in, download!” A red aura mixed in with the black and turned into a swirling chaos.
“Final chip!” Sean announced, “FireGospel Battlechip in, download!” Axl’s eyes snapped open, both now glowing bright red. He raised his arms over his head and yelled. The aura surrounding his body rose up and took on the form of Gospel. Shortly after the formation, a copy of Bass appeared on top of his head. Axl quickly brought his arms back down and thrust his left fist at BeastMan.
“DARK MESSIAH!”
Gospel opened his mouth and unleashed a powerful blast of all four of his elemental breaths. At the same time, the Bass copy held out his hands and unleashed a fury of Air Bursts. The attack engulfed BeastMan completely and he roared loudly. When the storm of energy finally passed, the Bass clone leapt up and delivered a devastating Earthbreaker. BeastMan was blasted back and he slammed into the wall of the arena, his body badly leaking data. The Bass and Gospel copies disappeared and Axl returned to his normal self.
“Match over,” he mumbled. Inukai’s Battle Point counter dropped to zero and Sean’s shot up to thirty.
“We won,” Sean whispered. He put down his arm and let out a sigh of relief before walking over to Inukai.
“Well, it looks like I win. Now fork over your rarest chip.” Inukai scoffed and took out the Crest of Arcadia.
“Take it. I don’t want it anymore,” he grumbled.
“I don’t want that chip, either,” Sean replied, “It may possess incredible power, but after seeing what happened to BeastMan, I’d rather not.”
“Then take this.” Inukai handed Sean a BeastManV5 chip and the teen took it.
“Thanks.” He then turned to his PET screen, “Axl, time to go.”
“Sean, wait,” Axl suddenly piped up, “Something’s happening to BeastMan!”
“What?” Inukai and Sean immediately switched on their PET displays and watched. BeastMan was back on his feet and was roaring in agony as he grasped his head between his claws.
“What’s going on?” asked Axl. The Crest of Arcadia on BeastMan’s forehead suddenly shone brightly and a column of white light surrounded his entire body. There was a blinding flash and he was suddenly gone.
“BeastMan?” Axl looked around, but couldn’t find any sign of the savage Navi, “BeastMan!”
“BeastMan!” Inukai screamed at his PET.
“Axl, there’s nothing more we can do here,” Sean said to his Navi, “Let’s get the animals back into their habitats and then leave.”
“Good idea, Sean.” The link between the two PETs was cut and Sean went towards the zoo office. Once all the animals were back, he left Yoka altogether. Meanwhile, Inukai was slumped on the ground over the loss of BeastMan. Monosuke, who had somehow managed to get out of his trap, walked over to his master and nuzzled him.
“Looks like you lost,” a new voice called out. Inukai looked towards the direction of the voice and saw Greg sitting on top of one of the bird cages.
“You.” The large man growled as he stood up, “You gave me that chip! You’re the reason BeastMan went insane!”
“Hey, how was I supposed to know how that would affect him that way?” Greg asked casually, “Actually, come to think of it, I DID know. Oh, well. What’re you going to do.” He hopped off the cage and began walking towards Inukai. Monosuke stepped in front of his master and roared. When the black-clad fanatic showed no signs of yielding, he pounced. Greg swiftly slotted in his Synchro Chip and Cross Fused. Now R Phantom, he ducked under the massive lion and kicked him to the side before crossing out and continuing towards Inukai. When he finally reached him, he reached into the man’s pocket and pulled out the Crest of Arcadia.
“Thanks for giving this back,” he smirked, “Now I’m off.” He Cross Fused again and teleported out of the zoo, leaving Inukai alone with his pet lion.
* * *
“Mission accomplished, Saiba,” Greg reported once he was out of Yoka and Cross Fusion, “The Crest has claimed its first victim and I have it back in my possession.”
“Good work, Greg,” Saiba replied, “Continue as normal.”
“Okay.” The com was shut off and Greg prepared for his next battle.

I'm impressed. Although I still stand by my belief that the CoA is nothing more than a DarkChip inverted and redecorated, the added feature seems to be rather interesting. There seems to be some more potential in this idea, actually.
The combat situation was also a welcome surprise as well. THis time, it seemed to be finely detailed and far from linear.
If this is how the next few chapters will turn out, perhaps the season as a whole can regain its former glory. Good job. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I like with how this chapter is doing for the story so far, man. I mean, I can't believe that BeastMan would go beserk after the use of the Crest of Arcadia chip. Not only that, but he vanishes out of sight without leaving a single trace of himself behind. I would like to see the rest of the details that the other chapters would offer next. I hope that you keep it up man. Later!

8.5/10
I liked that chapter, particularly the battle scene. It wasn't full of generic moves and attacks as many others gave been. I have to say though, that I really doubt the zoo would go for any lengthof time allowing visitors in for free. Also, I kind of assumed that after the last incident, the zoo would remove the chips from its animals heads.
Lastly, I think that having victims be whisked away is kind of a way of avoiding telling us the CoA's affects. Forgive me if I'm wrong. _________________ Formerly known as LunarSun

I've been reading this story since it was startedand I have to say that it is a very impressive piece of literature and I'm glad to finally be giving my oppinion.
In this past chapter, I would say that your style of writing battles has changed for the better and that It is good to finally see the results of the Crest of Arcadia, no matter how mysterious it still is. |

Considering the fact that you have been editing for an average amount of time, I have trouble seeing how you could not know what the crest is. |

Can't you just you just read like the first few chapters and finding out, instead of insulting the author by asking a question and not reading their works? _________________

Just in case you haven't gone back and read all of the chapters...
The CoA is a chip used by the Four Fanatics that gives them crazy power, but it only works on navis whose abilities are equal in all areas. That is if I interpreted correctly.
Anyway, I know that it would be hard to go back and check all of the posts(There are a lot). I personally had the time to go back and read, but I know that not everyone does. _________________ Formerly known as LunarSun

CHAPTER 3-23
Yai’s Battle
Amidst the NetBattling taking place all over DenTech City and the surrounding areas, Saiba and his subordinates had gathered under a tree in one of the city parks giving their updates.
“I’ve successfully claimed one victim for the Crest,” Greg sneered.
“One? I already nailed three,” Diana replied.
“I should still be tailing the guy who has my Crest of Arcadia chip,” Waya interjected.
“I haven’t lost yet,” Nicol admitted.
“Well, it’s not much but it’s a start,” Saiba said from his seat on a branch, “It’s too bad we can’t get everyone in this tournament, otherwise we’d have an enormous army.”
“Speaking of which, Saiba, are you using the Pantheon Navis fight for you?” asked Nicol.
“I thought I’d give my own Navi a good workout throughout this whole tournament,” Saiba answered, “I’ve already got a good forty-five Battle Points.”
“I only have eight,” Nicol said.
“I’ve got twenty-six,” Diana announced, “I’d have more if I didn’t have to lose to fork over the Crest of Arcadia and then get it back.”
“Fourteen. Need more,” was Greg’s only response.
“Twenty Battle Points for me,” Waya finished.
“Well then,” Saiba jumped off the branch and landed among his crew, “Let’s get a move on.”
* * *
“SuperVulcan Battlechip in, download!” Yai dragged and dropped the SuperVulcan icon from her custom menu on the side watched as Glyde’s hand changed into a SuperVulcan. He raised his arm and fired a volley of bullets at his opponent.
“Pianissimo, are you okay?” the operator asked.
“I’m just fine, Ayame,” the Navi answered.
“Glyde Cannon!” Glyde raised his default weapon and fired, hitting Pianissimo squarely on the chest and forcing her to log out. The battle ended and two Battle Points were transferred to Yai’s score.
“That’s another win for me,” Yai announced as the sun reflected off her forehead, “Now I get your rarest chip.”
“Here you go.” Pianissimo’s operator walked up to Yai and handed her a BugFix chip.
“That’s it?” the blonde girl asked, “No cry of anguish? No demand for a rematch?”
“Nope, just the pleasure of battling in this tournament. Well, toodles.” As her opponent walked away, Yai turned to Glyde.
“Glyde, what’s going on?” she demanded, “She didn’t break down like my other opponents.”
“Perhaps, Miss Yai, it is because not everyone is a sore loser,” Glyde suggested.
“Who asked you?” she snapped, “I need someone who’ll be crushed on defeat. I demand satisfaction!”
“Perhaps you should calm down a bit first, Miss Yai.”
“You’re right.” Yai put her PET away and walked into the nearest pub. She walked up to the bar and sat down.
“Give me a large glass of strawberry milk!” she commanded.
“We don’t serve strawberry milk here,” the bartender told her. With this news, Yai left the bar and went elsewhere. Again, she was told they didn’t serve strawberry milk. After trying two more places, she screamed.
“This part of the city stinks! There’s no strawberry milk anywhere!” Glyde only watched. He knew it was best not to intervene when Yai was upset, especially at this stage.
“I know!” The butler-like Navi suddenly jumped at his operator’s sudden outburst from her rant, “I’ll NetBattle someone until I get the reaction I expect!”
“A most excellent idea, Miss Yai!” Glyde knew it was best to go along with everything Yai did and said when she was like this.
* * *
Nicol sat on a bus stop bench sorting through the chips that he had won in all his previous battles. He had obtained a lot of extremely rare ones. He was surprised how some of these people were able to afford such things.
“Can you feel it, Nicol?” asked Fefnir, “It’s the pleasure of sheer victory. We’re on our way to the top.”
“I don’t know, Fefnir,” Nicol sighed as he put the chips away, “It just doesn’t feel right to take these chips from them, even if the rules state that we get them.”
“Nicol, I’ve told you this before,” Fefnir mumbled, “You’re too nice. You have to be more aggressive. You can’t just go around like you are now.” He paused in his speech for a moment and then continued.
“On the other hand, because of your wimpy personality lots of people want to battle you thinking they’ll get an easy victory. But once you slot in the Crest of Arcadia, they go down like a block of lead in a pool of water.”
“I guess. But I still don’t like to use that chip. And I certainly don’t feel like having other people suffer its negative effects if they can’t control it.”
“There you go again, Nicol.”
“Let’s just get going.” As he got up to leave, he passed a girl with blonde hair about a year younger than him. She stopped and turned to face him.
“Are you going to ask me for a NetBattle?” she asked. Nicol turned and looked at her.
“Are you…in the tournament?” he asked in return.
“No.”
“Then I won’t.” The girl sighed with relief.
“Thank you. Just because I have a PET, everyone thinks I’m in the tournament.”
“Well, that’s not how I see it. I’m Nicol, by the way.”
“I’m Summer. Summer Fuyu.”
* * *
Yai continued to NetBattle through the tournament and so far, she hadn’t found a single person who reacted in the way she was expected.
“Why must people try to be good sports?” she wondered out loud.
“Miss Yai, perhaps you shouldn’t try to find an opponent who’ll react the way you expect when you defeat them,” Glyde suggested, “Rather, perhaps you should just enjoy the tournament altogether.”
“I’ll enjoy it when I get what I want.” Glyde shook his head. He didn’t like the way things were going. Yai was starting to act less and less like her normal self.
I almost don’t recognize her, anymore, he thought. As Yai made her way around, she saw a young blonde-haired girl sitting on a bench. She quickly walked over to her.
“Hey you, do you want to NetBattle?” she asked. Summer wasn’t expecting Yai’s sudden advance and began to stammer. However, she was spared having to say anything when Nicol stepped forward.
“Please, don’t bother her. She’s not even in the tournament.”
“Do you want to NetBattle me instead?” Yai snapped. Nicol, who was taken aback by her attitude. But he managed to keep his cool and looked her straight in the eye.
“If you promise to leave her alone, then yes.”
“Fine, then let’s do it.”
“Nicol…” Summer began.
“Please, don’t worry,” Nicol assured her, “It’ll all be fine.” He turned back to Yai and took out his PET.
“Jack in!! Fefnir, power up!”
“Jack in!! Glyde, power up!”
Fefnir and Glyde both appeared inside the arena and stood on opposite sides of the battle grid.
“Battle Point chip in, download!” The counters appeared over the Navis’ heads. Nicol had won a couple more matches since his meeting with his comrades earlier that day. He now had a total of twelve Battle Points. By sheer coincidence, Yai equaled his score.
“I bet twelve Battle Points!” the rich blonde declared.
“I accept,” Nicol replied, “Fefnir, let’s do this for Summer.”
“I’m just in it for the fight!” Fefnir chuckled.
“Glyde!” Yai shouted, “Battle routine, set!”
“Execute!”
“Burn in hell!”
BATLE START
“Salamander Battlechip in, download!” Yai wasted no time as she sent in her first Battlechip. A column of fire surrounded Glyde and took on the form of a dragon. It roared before flying straight towards Fefnir.
“I activate AntiFire!” Nicol slotted in the chip and a dragon statue appeared and absorbed the fire attack before shooting a burst of flames back at Glyde. The winged Navi was singed from the counterattack, but he was still in the game.
“Torch Claw!” Fefnir opened up his claws and a stream of flames shot forward from his weapon. Glyde moved to the side and fired a few shots from his Glyde Cannon, but his fiery opponent used his blaster as a shield and blocked. As the battle continued, Nicol turned his head and looked at Summer.
“I’ll make sure you’ll be okay,” he assured her before returning his attention to the fight. Yai had just armed Glyde with a Z-Saber and he was now advancing towards Fefnir, who continued to block. Suddenly, the red Navi reached up and grabbed the blade between his claws. He poured in a little bit of extra force and shattered the sword.
“Take this!” Fefnir grinned maniacally as he shoved the barrel of his weapon against his opponent’s chest and fired a bombardment of energy bursts. Glyde was struck hard and he would have been deleted, too, had Yai not downloaded a LifeAura in time to protect him.
“We can take him out, Glyde,” she said to her Navi, “He’s just another wimpy type of guy anyway.”
“That’s true enough,” Fefnir muttered in agreement as he launched another barrage of fireballs. However, Glyde’s LifeAura protected him and thus took no damage.
“HeroSword Battlechip in, download!” Yai slotted in her chip and her Navi’s right hand transformed into an elegant long blade attached to a brown hilt. He swung it at Fefnir and managed to cut him across the chest.
“Nicol, give it to me!” he demanded as he continued to block Glyde’s blows while backing away from him, “ I need the power!” Nicol knew there was no point in arguing with his Navi, especially since he was trying to protect Summer. Reluctantly, he reached into his pocket and produced the shining white chip.
“Crest of Arcadia Battlechip in, download!” A white column of light surrounded Fefnir’s body as his eyes became tinted red and his icon was replaced by the Crest. He looked at Glyde and grinned maniacally.
“FireTower Battlechip in, download!” Nicol slipped in a Battlechip and he watched as Fefnir slammed the barrel of his Torch Claw against the ground before pumping flames into it. A few seconds later, a column of fire rose up and burned towards Glyde.
“That thing can’t penetrate Glyde’s LifeAura. Just let me finish you off now,” Yai cried.
“I won’t stand down,” Nicol said firmly, “Not when I have someone to protect.” The FireTower exploded in front of Glyde and Fefnir used the cover to rush in and slam into his opponent, sending them both flying back into the wall surrounding the battle grid. The red Navi jumped back and unleashed another jet of flames. This time, his attack broke through the LifeAura and dissipated it, much to Yai’s shock and horror.
“Fefnir, don’t drag this out any longer,” ordered Nicol, “End it now.”
“Way ahead of ya, Nicol!” Fefnir grinned as he ran up to Glyde and caught the HeroSword in his Torch Claw. He quickly shattered the blade and closed the claws around his opponent’s head before tightening his grip. Glyde found himself completely incapable of breaking free and before long, he was logged out and the battle ended with Fefnir and Nicol as the victors.
Yai was completely devastated by her loss. The very reaction she had hoped to achieve from her opponents now gripped her in its icy-cold fingers. She had been so caught up in trying to get what she wanted and now she was out of the tournament for good.
“We win!” Fefnir shouted from Nicol’s PET, “Now fork over your rarest chip.” Reluctantly, Yai pulled out her FolderBack and handed it to Nicol. The young soldier took it and put it away before turning to Summer.
“Come on, Summer. You’ve been through a lot today. I’ll buy you a fruit drink,” he offered. Summer smiled and took the hand he held out to her and the two of them walked off. Meanwhile, Glyde stood in his PET thinking about what had just happened. In her quest to find and defeat a sore loser, Yai had not only lost the tournament and her rarest chip, but she had also lost herself.
This tournament is bringing out the worst in everyone, he thought, Miss Yai was not at all herself. I must inform the others as soon as possible. Before events get out of hand.

As much as I don't like Raika's (I use the name Raika because Laika is the name of the dog the Soivets sent up in space on Sputnik 2) attitude in the anime, I love how you characterize him in this fanfic. I can't wait to see the next episode with him in it.
Oh, and somewhere in this season, could you put in some time travel. I know this sounds crazy but I love time travel stories and there really aren't any Megaman time travel stories. _________________ “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”

You know, Time travel has ruined many a good plotline, besides, [spoil:f902cd9683]Time travel has already been in the anime[/spoil:f902cd9683].
Back on topic, 7/10. It was a good battle. Although, I would like to see what passed through Summer and Nicol. _________________
