Child Birth: YurikoxMiyabi fic for Planty, PG-13

Neko

Miyabi returned from the convenience store with his wife’s weekly dose of ice cream and pickles. “I’m home,” he called into the small house as he came inside.

Yuriko turned around to look at him with a pained look on her face. He looked back and vaguely wondered if she was going to yell at him, “Are you…” he started.

“I think I had a contraction,” she said in a hoarse whisper.

“Oh,” Miyabi replied.

She glared at him, “You have no idea what that means, do you?”

Miyabi chose not to answer that, instead he held up the plastic bag and said, “I brought your favorite ice cream,” in a semi hopeful voice.

Yuriko sighed and shrugged, “When it happens, it happens,” she muttered.

“Huh?” Miyabi asked.

Yuriko shook her head, “Just give me the super fudge chunk ice cream,” she said while holding out her hand.

Miyabi happily obliged and gave her the ice cream and a plastic spoon. Then he walked into the kitchen to put the rest of the food away. “Shadowman?” Miyabi asked.

“Yes?” Shadowman replied.

“Do you think… we’re ready for a child?” he asked his navi sincerely.

“It’s a little late for that now, don’t you think?” Shadowman asked.

“Humor me,” Miyabi said dryly while he put the ice cream into the freezer.

Shadowman smiled wanly, “I think you and Yuriko-san will make wonderful parents. However, I think it will be very difficult.”

Miyabi nodded, “One would think,” he murmured.

Yuriko on the other hand was feeling vaguely ill as she ate the ice cream. “Yuriko…” Needleman said slowly.

“I wish this kid would just come already,” she hissed while biting on the spoon.

Needleman sighed, he couldn’t wait.

Yuriko stood up and made her way to the bathroom, leaving her ice cream on the couch. Ten minutes later Miyabi heard a loud cry from the bathroom. “Yu-yu?” he called out walking to the bathroom door tentatively.

“Call…” Yuriko hissed and took in a deep breath. “Call my sister…”

“Why?” Miyabi asked, still slightly puzzled.

“MY WATER JUST BROKE DAMNIT. I’M HAVING A BABY!” she yelled loudly.

“WHAT?” Miyabi yelled back.

“CALL MARIKO NOW!” Yuriko yelled.

Miyabi dashed for the phone while the two navis looked on in a mixture of interest and fear. Miyabi ran over to the phone while Yuriko came out from the bathroom, “Mariko-san?” he asked as soon as someone picked up.

“Oh god, it’s happening, isn’t it?” Mariko asked.

“Uh… yeah,” Miyabi said.

“I’ll be there in five minutes,” she said quickly and hung up.

Miyabi gazed at his phone then hung up. “She’ll be here soon,” he told his wife.

Yuriko held her stomach, “Good, because I’m sick of waiting,” she hissed.

15 minutes later, Yuriko was admitted to the OBGYN wing of the local hospital where she was hooked up to a number of machines. Miyabi was walking around in a rather controlled panic while Mariko cooed to her sister telling her everything would be fine. “I know everything will BE fine,” Yuriko snapped, “But right now it’s NOT!”

“Contractions are ten minutes apart,” a Nurse said.

Yuriko cried out loudly as another contraction rippled through her body. Mariko held her hand and gave her a weak smile. “Okay… everything isn’t fine.”

“Thank… you…” Yuriko panted.

“Oh my god…” Miyabi said in his own little corner.

“Are you all right?” Shadowman asked.

Miyabi sighed… “Not really…” he admitted.

Thirty minutes later, Yuriko’s contractions were close enough together that the nurse told her she could push. “Breathe… and push,” the nurse told her.

Yuriko breathed and pushed, then yelled. The yelling wasn’t in the instructions but Miyabi figured it was natural. “COME OUT DAMNIT!” Yuriko yelled and pushed again.

The doctors and nurses raised their eyebrows but didn’t say anything. Child birth was different for every patient.

Mariko held her sister’s hand tightly and continued to murmur words of encouragement regardless of her sister’s yells.

“MIYABI!” she yelled.

Miyabi snapped to attention as he heard his name yelled out by his angry wife. “Yes?”

Yuriko managed to fix him with a hard glare, “Where the hell are you?” she hissed then pushed again.

Miyabi walked over to his wife’s side and took her left hand. She immediately held it in a vice like grip, she was no weakling. Miyabi looked over to Mariko and wondered how she wasn’t crying out in pain. “I… swear…” she hissed as she pushed.

“The infant is crowning!” a doctor said.

“If this… kid… doesn’t come out… I… will…” she continued on her rant as best she could.

Miyabi put his hand on Yuriko’s head, “Settle down and get the kid out,” he said in a calm voice.

Yuriko gave him a big smile, “All right,” she said and began to push again.

Ten minutes later a baby girl weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces was born to Yuriko and Miyabi. Even their navis agreed that the screaming infant was beautiful. The nurse wiped as much blood as she could from the girl and handed her to Yuriko. “Here you go,” she said.

Yuriko took the child in her arms and bent over her, “Hello,” she said. “You gave me quite some hell there, you know that?”

The baby stopped whimpering and looked at Yuriko. Yuriko couldn’t help it… she had to smile at that. “Does her father wish to hold her?” she asked.

Miyabi held out his hands and held the small child awkwardly in his arms. He looked at the child and smiled, “Hi…” he said, not quite sure of what to say.

The baby looked at him, blinked once then closed her eyes.

“Aww…” Mariko cooed.

“Does the aunt want to hold her?” Miyabi asked holding the child out.

Mariko took the child and cradled her, immediately baby talking her niece.

The doctor came over, “Does she have a name?” he asked.

Miyabi nodded, “Yes,” he said.

“Her name is Nozomi,” Yuriko finished.

Neko zomg I love it! XDD That's exactly how I imagined Yuriko would behave in labor! Poor Miyabi though, there's nothing like putting up with a 'tough' wife in labor.

And awww, now I gotta draw Yuriko, Mariko, Miyabi and Nozomi X3 so cuuute, Thanks for the lovely fic! /o/

Hilarious. Miyabi's cluelessness was something to really laugh at. And I can really imagine Yuriko being that way as well...Great job.

Some women do have odd cravings. I know my mom had cravings for sea food when my brother was pregnant with my brother >_> and she claims she craved for chili cooked in as many forms as she could figure out when she was expecting me. XDD

My cousin would eat odd things too, something salty then right away something sweet then right away something hot. >.>;;

Ahh, "Hope." How apt...

Anyway, this is something new. I never thought that you would cover the situation of childbirth. As a person who watches Discovery Health Channel too much -_-; , I think I've seen quite a few stories about it, and you portray the scene with such exuberance.

I'm surprised, actually, on how clueless you decided to make Miyabi out to be--it doesn't seem to be part of his character--and yet, I'm somewhat pleased that you did so, because it's simply comic relief buried in the soil of a serious situation.

Cute really, really cute Neko. It seems like he might not know about a lot things like this. Nice name choice. I once thought of miyako since both sisters' names end in ko and it has a part of miyabi's name in it too.
