I thought you described that battle pretty well. Also, I'm glad to see that a guy who has saved the world countless times is finally getting some fame. _________________ Formerly known as LunarSun

So Netto is next? Cools. But what are you giving his name as? Randy, or Netto? _________________ If you're reading this, it's obvious you have nothing much to do. |

Good chapter. Nice to see the pyromaniac and ScorchMan again. A Lan Hikari fanatic, the only person I can think of other than Saiba is the Net-op of TurboMan. _________________ ForteZero ~ The White Shadow

This chapter features and RPG cameo. Netto Takashi and Spectrum are property of Netto EXE.
-----------------------------------
CHAPTER 3-26
Lan’s Admirer
Dex was at the Game Soul taking part in a king’s court NetBattle under the Battle Network tournament rules. So far, he had won nine times and earned nine different rare chips.
“Who’s next?” he challenged.
“That’d be me.” A teen around sixteen years of age with short blond hair and blue eyes stepped forward. His clothes were fairly plain, consisting of a blue T-shirt and red pants. However, one distinguishable trait he had was a blue headband wrapped around his head. In the center was his Navi’s icon, which was the back of a playing card with different colors on each side.
“Name’s Netto Takashi,” he introduced.
“Let’s see what you’ve got,” Dex smirked. Netto took out his PET and aimed it at the console.
“Jack in!! Spectrum, power up!”
Inside the arena, GutsMan came face-to-face with an average-sized Navi wrapped in a tattered red robe with large cyan crests atop his helmet.
“We’re putting up three Battle Points,” Netto declared.
“Three points,” Dex agreed, Let’s go, GutsMan! Battle routine, set!”
“Execute!”
BATTLE START
As soon as the match began, Spectrum reached into his robe and pulled out a deck of cards. He drew five from the top and placed the rest in his pocket.
“GutsHammer!” GutsMan combined his hands together and slammed them against the floor, sending a shockwave towards his opponent.
“I’ve got the right card for you,” Spectrum smirked as he pulled a card from his hand and held it out, “Absorption Barrier!” He held the card out in front of him and the shockwave was negated as it hit an invisible barrier.
“Guts?” GutsMan looked in awe at what had just happened. Meanwhile, Spectrum held out another card and a black Tyrannosaurus Rex-like dinosaur appeared in front of him. He quickly replenished his hand and pointed forward.
“Black Rex, attack him now!” The dinosaur roared and charged towards GutsMan. It lashed out at him and sank its teeth into his arm. Fortunately for GutsMan, his armor was strong enough to withstand the bite.
“Nice try,” Dex sneered. Netto was not affected as Spectrum took another card from his hand and held it out.
“That’ll change once I power up my Black Rex with my Dark Pendant,” the robed Navi declared. His card disappeared and a necklace appeared around the dark reptile’s neck. Its bite instantly became stronger. However, GutsMan was able to lift it off its feet and punch it hard in the face, destroying it. As soon as the creature disappeared, the medallion cracked and hit the large Navi with a cloud pf poison.
“There’s more where that came from,” Spectrum said calmly as he held out three cards and three more Black Rexes appeared to replace the first one. They all ran towards GutsMan gnashing their teeth and snarling. The large Navi once again struck out with his fists and knocked them back.
“Not bad,” Spectrum observed, “But you’re going to have to do better than that.” He snapped his fingers and his three Black Rexes returned to him.
“What’s he up to now?” Dex wondered.
“You’ll see,” Netto assured his opponent.
“I destroy one of my Black Rexes so I can bring this guy to the field,” Spectrum announced, “Demon General!” One of the black dinosaurs suddenly disappeared and a giant horned demon with wings took its place and hissed loudly.
“I’ll also hide these somewhere on the field.” Spectrum threw two cards out and they disappeared somewhere in the grid.
“He’s just messing with you, GutsMan,” Dex affirmed his Navi, “There’s nothing to be scared of. Attack him! GutsImpact Battlechip in, download!”
“GUTS!” GutsMan’s battle cry rang out from his throat as his fist grew to thrice its original size and he charged towards Spectrum. As he swung out with his punch, his foot stepped onto a panel and it began glowing purple. A stone wall suddenly rose up in front of him and his fist slammed into it.
“Looks like you activated Spectrum’s Fortress Wall,” Netto smirked as his Navi replenished his hand.
“Guts Punch!” GutsMan broke through the wall with several more punches and slammed his fist into one of the two Black Rexes, destroying it immediately. Spectrum grunted as if he had been hit but he still continued to stand.
“I get it now!” Dex exclaimed, “Your Navi’s summons are connected directly to your Navi. When one takes damage, so does your Navi.”
“And yet it’s still proven to be an awesome tactic,” Netto replied, “Time to attack, Spectrum.”
“Demon General, attack!” Spectrum ordered. The Demon General hissed and unleashed several bolts of electricity at GutsMan from its claws. Once the lightning subsided, the remaining Black Rex charged and bit GutsMan’s arm.
“And I’ll power up Black Rex with this,” Spectrum declared as he revealed the other card he had hidden in the battle grid, “Extra Troops!” The Black Rex’s power increased and its teeth soon penetrated GutsMan’s armor. The large Navi stumbled back as the black dinosaur slammed its head into his chest and whacked him with its tail, forcing him to log out.
GUTSMAN LOGGING OUT
With the battle over, the three Battle Points that Dex had wagers were transferred to Netto’s score.
“Good job, Spectrum,” he said to his Navi, “If we keep this up, we’ll be unstoppable like Lan and MegaMan in no time.
“How do you know about Lan and MegaMan?” Dex demanded until he realized how stupid a question it was.
“He’s saved the world countless times from NetCrime and NetTerrorism,” Netto answered, “Plus I’m also a member of the official Lan Hikari fan club.”
“Lan has a fan club?”
“You probably know our president. His name is Kai.”
“That says a lot already. Well, I’m done here.”
“Don’t forget your rarest chip,” Netto reminded. Dex handed over his GoldFist and left the Game Soul. Netto followed closely behind him.
“Why are you still following me?” asked Dex.
“Because you seem to know Lan,” Netto replied, “I want to meet him.”
“I don’t think he’s going to appreciate the fact that you followed me to get to him.”
As the two of them walked through the streets of the city, a pair of eyes watched them from the shadows.
“Did you hear that?” the figure whispered into his PET, “They’re looking for Lan Hikari.”
“I heard you loud and clear. What are you going to do?”
“What do you think? I still have to take revenge on Lan for what he did to me back at the DenDome all those years ago.”
“You can certainly hold a grudge for a while.”
“Nobody makes a fool of Terry Jomon and gets away with it.”
* * *
Dex continued to walk through the city with Netto still tailing him. Their journey eventually led them to Electown.
“What makes you so sure you’ll meet Lan if you keep following me?” Dex asked.
“If you’re a friend of Lan, chances are you’re bound to meet up with him,” was Netto’s answer, “If not, then you’re definitely going to fight him eventually as the competition thins out.”
“How’s that different from wandering around by yourself?”
“If I hang with you, I have a better chance if the first case is true.” Dex groaned but his attention was quickly diverted towards Jomon Electronics. He and Netto walked over to see what the commotion was.
“That’s right, everyone!” a figure wearing a wide-brimmed hat on a make-shift stage announced, “Jomon Electronics is offering free PET check-ups! We want to make sure everyone’s Navis are in tiptop shape for the tournament.”
“Don’t listen to him!” a voice shouted. Everyone turned to see a young boy and most likely his father coming up to the crowd. The person who had called out was the father.
“All he does is lock you with a folder filled with weak chips!” he warned.
“It’s true,” his son added, “My Navi’s locked down with a folder that I didn’t create. It’s filled with all sorts of useless chips!” This caused the mood of the crowd to change and they started shouting angrily.
“What’s going on?” Dex demanded, “Why are you locking people’s folders like that? That’s against the rules.”
“Actually, it isn’t,” Netto correct, “It’s not even stated in the rules.”
“He’s got the idea,” the figure said, “This tournament isn’t just about winning chips and points. It’s also about how you go about getting them. That’s why this tournament is far better than any other one that’s ever been organized. Everyone’s free to do as they please so long as you can obtain your winnings through NetBattling. And because of this, I hope I can finally beat Lan Hikari for good.”
“You want to beat Lan?” asked Dex, “Just who are you, anyway?” The figure smirked and threw off his wide-brimmed hat. He quickly slipped on a pair of purple visor-like sunglasses and an electric-blue and black hat.
“Terry Jomon!” exclaimed Dex.
“After the city tournament at the DenDome nine years ago, I swore I would get back at Lan Hikari for what he did to me,” Terry explained, “Everyone I battle in this tournament is just a stepping stone until I face him.”
“We’ll you’re going to have to get through me, first,” Dex challenged.
“And me!” Netto added.
“Fine. I’ll take you two on one!” Terry smirked, “It doesn’t matter to me, anyway, since you’ll both lose even with your regular folders. Jack in!! SparkMan, power up!”
“Jack in!! GutsMan, power up!”
“Jack in!! Spectrum, power up!”
Inside the battle grid, GutsMan and Spectrum appeared on the red side while SparkMan appeared on the blue side. All three NetBattlers inserted their Battle Point chips into their PETs and three counters appeared overhead.
“Since it’s two on one against me, I’ll make the bet,” Terry declared, “I bet ten Battle Points. That means you each put up five.”
“That’s fine with us,” Dex replied as GutsMan got into his battle stance and Spectrum drew five cards, “Battle routine, set!”
“Execute!”
BATTLE START
“I summon Black Rex!” Spectrum held out a card and a black dinosaur appeared in front of him.
“He’s an Elec-element Navi, so Wood-element chips should work against him,” Dex thought aloud, “SideBamboo1 Battlechip in, download!” A Killy virus appeared beside SparkMan and shot a bamboo spear at him. However, the electric Navi stepped forward and dodged it.
“My turn! Spark Mines!” Several orange bombs formed around SparkMan and flew towards his opponents.
“Black Rex, defend!” Spectrum commanded. His monster immediately crouched down into a defensive position and he quickly called forth two more, which also took up defensive stances. The Spark Mines stopped adjacent to each one and exploded, sending out sparks that destroyed each of them.
“Guts Hammer!” With the path now clear of mines, GutsMan slammed his fists down and sent a shockwave towards SparkMan. The electric Navi sidestepped and dodged the attack with little effort.
“Flame Spirits, arise!” Spectrum held out two cards and two small fireballs with faces appeared on either side of him. He then called two more Black Rexes and hid a fifth card somewhere on the field.
“Is that all you’ve got?” Terry asked, “GutsMan’s attacks are pathetic and Spectrum doesn’t even attack at all.”
“Don’t be so sure of our tactics,” Netto warned as he watched Spectrum destroy one of his Flame Spirits and replace it with his Demon General, which struck out with its lightning attack as soon as it appeared.
“An electric attack against and electric Navi?” Terry asked, “You’ve got to be kidding me. AntiElec Battlechip in, download!” A lightning rod appeared in front of SparkMan and absorbed the Demon General’s attack. There was a short delay before it unleashed an even more powerful blast of lightning back at the two Navis. GutsMan and Spectrum raised their arms to shield themselves. The Demon General also survived, but one of the Black Rexes and the remaining Flame Spirit weren’t so lucky. Spectrum immediately felt the effects of their destruction.
“Lance Battlechip in, download!” Dex loaded the chip into his PET and watched as three bamboo spears shot out and hit SparkMan from behind, catching him by surprise.
“Not bad,” he commented, “But you still won’t win. Spark Wave!” He raised his arms over his head and touched his electrodes together. As he pulled them apart, a spark formed between them, which he released soon after and watched as it streaked towards his opponents.
“Activate Fortress Wall!” Netto declared. A stone wall rose up and blocked the Spark Wave. But that didn’t stop SparkMan as he fired more Spark Mines.
“Charred Arbor Warrior, block it!” Spectrum called forth a burnt tree and watched as it took the hits from the mines. Surprisingly, it survived.
“Quick, GutsMan!” Dex urged his Navi, “Program Advance! DashAttack, ColdPunch, GutsPunch Battlechips in, download!”
“Punch!” GutsMan thrust his arm forward and eight fists flew out from towards SparkMan. The electric Navi defended against the flying punches, but they still managed to deal some damage to him.
“Spark Mines! Spark Wave!” More mines came forward accompanied by a Spark Wave.
“You’ve served your purpose, Charred Arbor Warrior,” Spectrum said to his creature, “Now you can rest in peace as Dark Mage takes your place.” The burnt pile of firewood disappeared and a young woman in sorceress’ robes appeared. Spectrum then placed a Dark Medallion around her neck. Together with the Demon General, they obliterated the mines and took the hit from the Spark Wave.
“Guts Hammer!” GutsMan slammed his fists against the floor again and sent another shockwave towards SparkMan. This time, he was able to hit his mark.
“End this quickly, SparkMan,” Terry ordered his Navi, “We can’t lose.”
“I’ve been saving the best for last,” SparkMan chortled as he touched his electrodes together over his head, “Make Shadow!” A spark formed and created a blinding light that engulfed the battlefield. The shadows of GutsMan and Spectrum slowly rose up behind them and solidified, as did those of Spectrum’s creatures. All four of them attacked their counterparts and joined up with SparkMan on his side of the battle grid.
“How well can you fight yourselves?” laughed SparkMan as he watched the shadow clones fight for him.
“We can’t fight him like this!” Spectrum growled as he called forth numerous Black Rexes to defend only to have his clone mimic his exact moves.
“If only we could get rid of those clones. Then we could reach SparkMan,” Netto mumbled, “What would Lan do in a situation like this?”
“What would Lan do?” Dex wondered aloud. He thought for a moment and an idea finally came to him. He dug around in his pocket for a chip and found the one he was looking for.
“Blinder Battlechip in, download!” His PET registered the chip and a bright flash of light hit the battlefield. SparkMan yelled out as he was blinded and the suddenly flash dissipated the shadow clones.
“How’d you do that?” asked Netto.
“Just something I learned from Lan and MegaMan,” Dex explained, “Any illusion can be dispelled by a bright flash of light.”
“Well thanks,” Netto replied.
“This isn’t over yet,” Terry growled. He dug around through his pocket, and took out a shimmering white chip.
“Crest of Arcadia Battlechip in, download!” SparkMan cried out as a white column of light surrounded his body. Power surged through his body and he finally emerged from the light with the Crest of Arcadia glowing on his forehead.
“We’re in trouble, aren’t we?” asked Spectrum.
“Spark Wave!” SparkMan unleashed another Spark Wave and it rushed towards the two Navis with incredible speed and force, dealing heavy damage on contact.
“That’s it, SparkMan,” Terry said with a maniacal look in his eyes, “You’ve got absolute power, now. Use it!”
“Spark Wave!” Another Spark Wave shot forward and destroyed Spectrum’s Dark Mage and Demon General.
“Spectrum, are you okay?” Netto asked.
“GutsMan, speak to me!” Dex begged. The two Navis slowly came back into view as they stood back up amongst the smoke and dust.
“We’re fine, Netto,” Spectrum answered.
“He’s so powerful now,” GutsMan groaned.
“It’s because of that chip he used,” Dex realized, “Lan told us to watch out for that chip.”
“So you DO know Lan!” Netto exclaimed.
“That’s not the point right now,” Dex snapped. They returned their attention to the fight as SparkMan’s eyes began to shine bright red and he began to go ballistic. Spark Mines shot out in every direction as he sent Spark Waves every which way.
“He’s totally lost control of himself!” Spectrum exclaimed.
“We finish this now?” asked GutsMan. Spectrum turned to his partner and gave him and affirming nod. He pulled out two cards from his hand and brought out two more Black Rexes.
“Now I send my Black Rexes away so I can bring forth my Black Sorcerer!” The dark-colored dinosaurs disappeared and a wizard clad in black robes took their place.
“FireHit3 Battlechip in, triple download!” Dex slotted in all three chips and watched as GutsMan’s fists became engulfed in flames.
“Boxer3!” As GutsMan unleashed countless rapid fire punches on SparkMan, Spectrum’s Black Sorcerer fired a burst of black magic. The combined attack knocked SparkMan down and ended the battle. Ten of Terry’s Battle Points disappeared from his score and five were added to each of his opponents’.
“How could I have lost?” Terry gasped as he fell to his knees, “That chip was supposed to be unstoppable.”
“Just give us your rarest chips,” Netto demanded. Terry reluctantly reached into his pack and took out a Lightning and a Bolt chip and handed them to his opponents.
“Who gave that white chip to you?” Dex asked. Terry looked up at him.
“I won it from a guy with a yellow jacket and a camouflage tank top,” he answered. Nothing more could be said as a loud scream came from the PETs. Everyone turned their attention back to the displayed and watched as SparkMan was engulfed by a pillar of white light and disappeared moments later.
“SparkMan? SparkMan!” Terry screamed into his now-empty PET, but got no response.
“Dex, we should tell Lan about this,” GutsMan suggested.
“Good idea,” Dex whispered back. Making sure that Netto was preoccupied, he slipped away and ran towards Maha Ichiban.

Disclaimer to staff--If this is excessively flamy, please PM me. I really would like to know. Your time is appreciated.
....
I'm sorry, but this was outright abysmal. Outright ripping off Yu-Gi-Oh in this chapter REALLY knocks the chapter down very far. The thinly veiled name changes do nothing to hide their origins, and well, this chapter was like trying to force two north poles of a magnet together--it's just not going to happen. Yu-Gi-Oh and Rockman.EXE are historically things that cannot be combined into one stable mass, and all those who have tried seem to have failed miserably. Sadly, this is no exception.
I had to expect Terry and SparkMan to return at some point, but don't you think you could have added them into the story in a way that did not involve ripping their scene directly out of EXE4's scenario base? This, compounded by the cameo's lack of in-depth character development really decayed from what merited in this chapter.
Overall, this chapter seriously reeked. I seriously suggest returning to the drawing board and rethinking the way you plan to have this arc turn out. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Meh... somewhat good chapter, and the return of SparkMan. I must say though, even if this sounds like a YGO/RMEXE CO for the chapter it doesn't sound like that to me. It could be just a simple card game created in the EXE universe, and it doesn't mean instant YGO rip-off. Cameos maybe...
Guess I was wrong about the guest character for this chapter, though Kai starting up a fanclub is funny to me. Keep up the good work AMZ. _________________ ForteZero ~ The White Shadow

Seeing as MC has already addressed it, I see no need for me to express my feelings about that chapter being ripped. I can say, that I found the battle to be relatively bland, like some of those earlier this season. I do want to see Lan meet more of his fans though. _________________ Formerly known as LunarSun

And yet, you're the one who chose to use the character and write him that way. Don't go blaming other people for stuff like that.
Having said that, I didn't mind the actual idea itself. What turned me off of this guy's Yugioh battling style was how it was written and used here, which was really bland. Whether the persons did it like that or not isn't a factor there, it's entirely your writing that made me think that.
That being said, I didn't find this chapter as appalling as some others did, but it still bored me and again, seemed like it had little to no point other than shoving in the cameo. I liked Terry appearing in the chapter though. |

I like with what you did for the chapter man. It's good to see that Dex gets some of the spotlight in this fic. Oh, I've liked for when you've added one of the characters from the RPG. Oh, and I've liked that you've added one of the characters from past games. I can't wait to see what you've got in store for the next chapter. Just what was that pillar of light that engulfed SparkMan anyway? I'm betting that it has something to do with that Crest of Arcadia chip that his NetOp used. Well, I'm sure that we'll get the gist of it once we read the next couple of chapters. Well, anyway, good fic man. Now, I've got a JAVA assignment that I need to prepare for and it's not going to be easy. But I could tell you that it's going to be easier than my C++ computer programming class. Well, later!

CHAPTER 3-27
Strings of Challenge
Noah looked out at the peaceful calm of the sea as he sat at a table at Marine Harbor’s café. He treasured quiet moments like these as they gave him a feeling of peace and tranquility. Casting his gaze away from the horizon, he picked up his hazelnut hot smoothie and took another sip from it before placing his cup back down on the table. He then turned back to look at the sea and enjoy the atmosphere.
“Um, excuse me? Mr. Noah Kaiyou?” Noah’s thoughts were interrupted when a SciLab researcher approached him carrying a book, “I’m a great admirer of your research. Can you please sign my book?”
“Certainly,” Noah answered cheerfully. As the scientist laid the book on the table in front of him, he took out a pen and opened the front cover. After quickly scrawling down “Good luck with your research. –Noah Kaiyou”, he closed the book and handed it back.
“Thank you, Mr. Kaiyou,” the researcher thanked and walked off happily.
“That’s the fifth time today, Noah,” Lumine noted.
“I know,” Noah groaned, “And it’s getting irritating. Especially whenever I’m having moments like this.”
“It’s just fame. It’ll be over eventually.”
“That’s only if you’re an actor or a sports star. Science celebrities are few and fare between and they usually only include Nobel Prize winners.”
“That reminds me,” Lumine piped up, “You’ve been nominated for a Nobel Prize for your latest piece of research.”
“Lumine, not now!” Noah snapped. He finished off his hot smoothie and placed some money on the table underneath his cup before picking up his plushie and walking off.
“Where are we going?” asked Lumine.
“Somewhere preferably away from the science community,” was Noah’s answer, “Even the Official Center has too many of them.” He quickly caught a train to ACDC Town and exited the station into the serene environment of the small suburban-like community. Scrolling through his list of memos in his PET, he maneuvered his way to the Hikari residence and rang the doorbell. It was answered shortly by Haruka Hikari.
“Hello, Mrs. Hikari,” the boy genius greeted.
“Hello,” Haruka greeted back, “You’re one of Lan’s friends, aren’t you?” Noah nodded.
“Yes. My name is Noah.”
“Would you like to come inside for a bit, Noah?” Haruka invited.
“I don’t want to intrude,” Noah began, but Mrs. Hikari stopped him.
“Nonsense. Come in.” Noah politely accepted the invitation and entered the house. Leaving his shoes by the door and putting on a pair of slippers, he followed Mrs. Hikari to the kitchen and sat down at the table.
“Have some tea.” Haruka placed a cut of steaming hot tea in front of the child prodigy.
“Thank you, Mrs. Hikari.” Noah took a sip of the steaming drink and set the cup back down on the saucer. Mrs. Hikari sat down on the other side of the table and looked at him.
“So how has Lan been doing recently?” she asked.
“He’s been doing quite well, actually,” Noah replied in a tone that almost made him sound like a teacher speaking to one of his students’ parents, “He’s occasionally had to ask for help, but he’s doing wonderfully. Outside of academics, he’s been doing pretty good, too.”
“That’s good to hear. Would you like something to eat?” Haruka offered.
“No thank you, Mrs. Hikari,” Noah politely declined, “I’m meeting up with everyone later for lunch.”
“Oh. Well, when you see Lan, can you please tell that I wish him the best?”
“It would be my pleasure, Mrs. Hikari.”
“Thank you, Noah.”
They talked for another fifteen minutes before Noah finished his tea and got up.
“I should get going, Mrs. Hikari,” he informed his host, “I have to get back to the university.”
“Of course, Noah.” While Haruka took the dishes to the sink, Noah went towards the front door and put on his shoes. When he finished, he turned around and bowed.
“Thank you for the tea, Mrs. Hikari. It was a pleasure to meet you.”
“It was a pleasure to meet you, too.” Noah stepped out the door and bid a final farewell before running down the front steps and snapping on his rollerblades before skating down the street. As he headed towards the MetroStation, he noticed a little girl in the park looking up into a tree. He quickly turned around and stopped right next to her.
“Is something wrong?” he asked.
“The wind blew my hat off and now it’s stuck in the tree,” she answered. Noah craned his neck and looked up to see a straw hat with a pink ribbon nestled between two branches.
“Leave it to me,” he assured her. He pulled his yo-yo from his hoodie pocket and slipped the string over his finger. After performing a few practice tricks, he launched little red toy upward and knocked the hat out. He reeled in his yo-yo and grabbed the wide-brimmed object from the air and handed it to the girl.
“Here you go.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Noah smiled as he played around with his yo-yo a bit more, but it was suddenly interrupted when another one knocked his aside. The boy turned around and saw a dark-haired teen wearing camouflage pants, a white tank top, a green vest, glasses, and a green cap turned backwards on his head. He was reeling in his green yo-yo when his actions caught Noah’s attention.
“Where did you learn that trick?” he asked. Noah wound his string back up and faced the newcomer.
“It was self-taught,” he answered.
“Well I have to admit, kid, you’ve got skill. Weird eyes, but awesome skill.”
“WHO ARE YOU CALLING 3D GLASSES FACE?!?!?!?!”
“Hey, I didn’t mean to insult you. Name’s Mike, by the way.”
“Noah Kaiyou.”
“So, think you can beat me in a yo-yo competition?” Mike challenged.
“You’re on,” Noah declared.
A few minutes later, the two of them faced countless pop cans placed randomly all over the park.
“Whoever can knock over the most number of cans with the fewest reel-ins wins,” Mike announced.
“Fine by me,” answered Noah. The two of them brought up their hands and launched their yo-yos at the exact same time. Noah succeeded in knocking a pop can off the head of the squirrel statue, which knocked over several cans placed right below it. He twisted his wrist around and his yo-yo bounced off a tree and took out more cans. Meanwhile, Mike was taking out an entire row. When he reached the last can, he reeled in his yo-yo and flung it again. Shortly after his second launch, Noah brought his in and re-launched. Seeing the way things were going, he placed his plushie inside his hood, letting it rest on the back of his head, and slipped on a second yo-yo. When he reeled in the one he was currently using, he flung both of them out at once. Mike glanced over to see what his opponent was doing and immediately took out a second yo-yo of his own and launched it instantly. Some time passed and eventually, all the pop cans had been knocked down.
“Who won?” asked Noah.
“I kept track of the cans during the entire contest,” Lumine announced, “Noah wins.”
“YAY!” Noah put his yo-yos away and grabbed his plushie before he started jumping around excitedly.
“Well, it was a fair contest,” Mike admitted, “Good job. But don’t think this is the last time we’re going to face off like this.”
“Would you prefer to settle this again with a tournament NetBattle?” asked Noah.
“Is that a challenge?”
“You bet it is.”
“I accept.”
“HEY! Clean up this mess first, you two!” Higsby screamed from his shop. Noah and Mike looked at the park and sweatdropped at the sight of the pop cans.
“Oh.” After a few minutes, they finally put the last of the cans into the recycling bin and turned towards each other.
“Jack in!! Lumine, power up!”
“Jack in!! YoyoMan, power up!”
On the battle grid, Lumine came face-to-face with a green-armored Navi equipped with two yo-yos on his shoulders and one larger yo-yo on his back.
“How much are we wagering on this fight?” asked Mike after he and Noah slotted in their Battle Point chips and discovered their scores were equal.
“I’ll wager two Battle Points,” Noah announced as he attached his solar sensor to his PET.
“Okay. Two Battle Points it is,” Mike replied.
“May the best Navi win,” Lumine wished to YoyoMan as he extended his hand.
“This’ll be a good fight.” YoyoMan took Lumine’s hand into his own and shook it before the two of them went to their starting positions.
“Let’s go, Lumine,” Noah said to his Navi, “Battle routine, set!”
“Execute!”
BATTLE START
“Yo-yo Blaster!” YoyoMan’s right hand quickly transformed into triple yo-yo launcher and he pointed it at Lumine and fired. The white-armored Navi ducked as a yo-yo flew towards him. It was quickly reeled back into its owner’s weapon before being fired again. This time, Lumine was prepared for a counterstrike as he held out two fingers and formed a feather between them.
“Feather Strike!” He threw the feather forward like a kunai as the yo-yo came at him and the two projectiles struck each other head-on. YoyoMan’s weapon clattered to the floor and he reeled it back into his launcher.
“Interception’s always a good move,” he commented, “But it only works so many times.”
“I am prepared to go to any lengths to win,” Lumine replied as he formed three more feathers in each hand and stood ready for his opponent’s next move. YoyoMan brought his Yo-yo Blaster forward and fired all three yo-yos at once. Lumine jumped into the air as they struck the spot where he once stood and threw three feathers down. YoyoMan turned around and the glowing white projectiles struck the yo-yo on his back, which protected him like a shield.
“Pulsar2 Battlechip in, download!” Noah dragged and dropped a chip onto his Navi and watched as Lumine’s hand changed into a sound blaster. He brought his weapon forward and fired a sonic wave at YoyoMan. Mike quickly inserted a RockCube to block and YoyoMan jumped away from the resulting reverberation.
“We need something stronger,” Lumine told his operator as he threw his other three feathers at his opponent.
“I’ve got it covered,” Noah said assuringly, “ShadeMan Battlechip in, download!” Lumine’s body began to resonate with the power of ShadeMan. He levitated up into the air and floated towards YoyoMan.
“Crush Noise!” He spread out his arms and a powerful sonic blast erupted from his chest and hit the green-armored Navi.
“Nice,” Mike commented.
“Instead of summoning Navis to the field, Lumine simply utilizes the power bestowed onto him by the Navi chips,” Noah explained, “Pretty handy, huh? It works a lot faster, too.”
Back inside the battle grid, YoyoMan used his other hand to grab a yo-yo from one of his shoulders and flung it towards Lumine. The purple-haired Navi jumped up and it crashed into the wall behind him. He formed more feathers and threw them down. One of them succeeded in cutting the wire, but that didn’t stop YoyoMan as he dashed towards his weapon and reattached it to his shoulder, where a new wire slowly threaded itself around the center.
“It takes about an hour to rethread one of my yo-yos,” YoyoMan explained, “But that doesn’t mean I still can’t keep on fighting.” His other hand morphed into a Yo-yo Blaster and he fired six yo-yos up at Lumine. All of them flew around him and bound his arms and legs.
“I can’t move!” the white-armored Navi exclaimed as he struggled to get free.
“Awesome, YoyoMan,” Mike said to his Navi, “Don’t let up, now. Thunder1 Battlechip in, download!” A small thunder ball appeared and YoyoMan directed it into his Yo-yo Blasters, which conducted the electrical current through the wires up to Lumine, thus shocking him.
“Try to break free, Lumine!” urged Noah. His Navi struggled against the electric attack.
“I can get through this,” he muttered to himself slowly. Lumine gave out a loud cry and his wings sprouted. He gave one hard flap and sent himself flying upward, dragging YoyoMan up with him. The green-armored Navi quickly detached himself from his opponent and reeled his yo-yos back in. Lumine looked down at him as his lens slid over his eye and several figures appeared on it.
“Heaven’s Judgement!” The lavender-haired Navi spread out his wings and unleashed a furious storm of feathers down on YoyoMan. Fortunately for his opponent, Mike was able to drag and drop and Invisible chip onto his Navi and YoyoMan disappeared before the feathers could hit.
“Where did he go?” Lumine wondered as he folded up his wings and they returned into his back.
“Right here!” YoyoMan suddenly reappeared on the far side of the arena and unhooked the yo-yo from his back.
“AirHockey Battlechip in, download!” Mike slotted in the chip and watched as his Navi fused its power into his weapon.
“Take this!” YoyoMan brought his arm back and flung his yo-yo forward with all his might.
“Dodge it, Lumine!” Noah commanded.
“It’s too big and it’s coming too fast!” Lumine responded.
“Well do something. Gun Del Sol EX Battlechip in, download! Gun Del Hell Battlechip in, download!” The giant yo-yo smashed against the spot where Lumine was.
“Got him!” YoyoMan yelled.
“Think again!” When the smoke cleared, everyone could see Lumine crouching on top of the yo-yo. He stood back up and the Gun Del Sol EX appeared in his right hand while the Gun Del Hell appeared in his left. He jumped up, allowing his opponent to reel in his weapon, and spread out his wings before flying in. He fired several shots from the Solar Gun and then from the Dark Gun. The shots hit their mark as YoyoMan stumbled back after retrieving his weapon.
“Black Hole!” Lumine squeezed the trigger on the Gun Del Hell and held it down. A hole made of Dark Matter appeared in front of the frame and YoyoMan was pulled into its center.
“Program Advance!” Noah announced, “Gun Del Sol 3, Gun Del Sol 3, DjangoSP Battlechips in, download!”
“Pile Driver!” Four large generators appeared around YoyoMan and Noah looked up to the sky to make sure that it was a clear sunny day. Fortunately, it was and he held his PET solar sensor up to the sun.
“Let’s do it, Lumine!” he shouted, “Taiyohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” The generators instantly fired Solar Piles at YoyoMan just as the black hole disappeared and he yelped out.
“It’s hot!” He tried to move, but found himself unable to and was soon logged out.
YOYOMAN LOGGING OUT
The battle ended and the two Battle Points that were wagered were subtracted from Mike’s score and added to Noah’s.
“That was a great match,” Mike complimented, “You and your Navi were awesome!”
“You and YoyoMan were pretty good, yourselves,” Noah replied as he shook hands with his opponent.
“Well, according to the tournament rules, I have to surrender this to you. Please take good care of it.” Mike reached into his pack and handed Noah a DeathPhoneix chip, which the boy genius gratefully accepted.
“Thank you, Mike,” he said with a smile, “Perhaps we’ll meet again someday.”
“I hope so. And when we do, expect another yo-yo challenge.”
“I look forward to it!” And with that said and done, Noah headed off to the MetroStation to catch the next train to the university.

Hmm.
I'll give you that it certainly was better than the last one. That is definite. However, I still found the combat to be rather straightforward and bland, and it doesn't keep me interested. Again--it seems as if this serves nothing but to shove the cameo into our face.
Decent read. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy

What a interesting chapter. Boy did Noah have it tough for when he tried to relax and all of a sudden he's starting to attract attention like a celebrity. Oh, and the way that you've put up those yo-yo tricks in this chapter is good too. Oh, and the battle is good like all of the other ones too. The battle is short but good. Oh, and I can't wait for the next chapter to come up. Boy, Lan eating a monster load of curry. Just thinking about it is making me want to try some. Well, later!
