Not bad at all. I like how you put the battle but the ending after the battle seemed a little rushed to me.

7/10

Interesting chapter, but it seems like too many of your navis are based on one central theme or another. What I mean is that very few of them seem to be made without leaning on one thing or another for support.

May I suggest introducing standard strategies that are in the actual game itself? E.g. Disco Inferno, Sliver Bullet, or Final Judgement, etc. That could spice up the battles a fair bit, IMO....

No, I think that would only serve to worsen the plot. A lot of what makes battles interesting is that the navi and operator think in an unorthodox manner--they will generate strategies and tactics on the fly, and an especially clever or surprising one will heighten the effect of the combat. If players degenerated to "by-the-book" strategies, then the chapter REALLY loses a lot of interest at that point.

Just my $0.02.

Well then, perhaps use little-used, rather crappy chips? (Which is what this fic has done a fair bit so far...)

O-kay, after four hours of solid reading, I am finally caught up with this fic. First, the overall perspective.

I find the entire tournament idea to be bland. It was ripped straight from YuGiOh and the idea has been done by numerous other writers. It just isn't original enough to rate very high in my book.

Also, I don't think this idea of using RPG cameos is working for you, AMZ. Most of them are blatant rips or stuffed with over-cool, unbelievable concepts or abilities. I don't know what it is, but they just don't register with me as actually having a decent enough personality, actually contributing to the story, or being believable enough, to be in the fic.

There just isn't enough originality or anything to keep my interest, and I really had to struggle to get caught up and not abandon this story.

Now, about that last chapter, it was mostly pointless. And I didn't think that the battle was very animated. You seem to be stuck in this 'Attack, Effect, Next Move' method of writing battles that doesn't work very well.

Overall, I give this season a 5/10. It could still be salvaged, but I'm not exactly holding my breath at this point.

I'm not trying to be harsh here, but that's the way I feel.

CHAPTER 3-28
Magical Curry

“He’s late,” Chaud muttered as he glanced at his watch.

“He’ll be here,” Lan assured the skunk-haired Official, “Look, here he comes now.”

“HEY!” Noah ran as fast as his legs could carry him and stopped in front of his friends breathing heavily, “Sorry, I’m late. My NetBattle ran a bit long.”

“It’s okay, Noah. The point is that you’re here now and that’s all that matters,” Lan replied, “Now let’s have lunch.”

“Hurray!”

The friends all piled into Maha Ichiban and sat down in their usual booth. The restaurant was extremely busy that day with hungry NetBattlers. Count Zap eventually came up to take their orders.

“Just give us the set lunch,” Lan said before Count Zap headed back behind the counter with the order.

“So how’s everyone been doing in the tournament so far?” asked Tory, “I have twenty-eight Battle Points.”

“Thirty-six for me,” Sean replied.

“That’s two less than me,” Chaud commented.

“I have an even thirty,” Laika added.

“Twenty-seven more me,” said Lan.

“I’ve won thirty-four Battle Points so far,” Noah piped up.

“I also have twenty-seven,” was Maylu’s answer.

“I’ve got twenty-two,” Dex chimed. Yai didn’t say anything.

“You don’t have any Battle Points, do you?” asked Chaud.

“I lost them all to some kid in a red uniform,” Yai ranted.

“That would probably be Nicol,” Laika noted. At the mention of the Nebula fanatic’s name, the mood around the table darkened.

“How are things going with the Crest of Arcadia?” Chaud asked.

“I’ve already fought one opponent who used it,” Sean said darkly.

“So did I,” Dex added.

“I lost because my opponent used that chip!” Yai exclaimed.

“I sense much fear in you,” Noah replied, performing a Yoda imitation. That earned him a bonk on the head from Yai. Nothing more was said for the rest of the time they spent waiting for their food to arrive. When their lunch finally came, conversation began to start up again.

“Look at it this way, Yai,” Lan piped up trying to lighten the mood, “At least now you’ll be able to focus on passing your driver’s test.”

“That’s true,” Tory said thoughtfully as he brought another spoonful of curry to his mouth, “But don’t expect any lessons from me. Remember what happened last time?”

“Don’t remind us,” Chaud groaned.

“I could teach her,” Noah volunteered.

“Noah, you’re still only eight,” Sean reminded the boy, “You can’t even get a learner’s yet.”

“They won’t know if I put on a fake moustache and beard and sit on a few pillows for height.

“They’ll never fall for it,” Laika replied as he took a sip of water from his glass.

“You better just stick with teaching her theory,” Tory finished.

After the nine of them had finished eating, Count Zap took away their dishes while Madd brought them their bill. Lan decided it would be faster to pay at the register, so he got out of the booth and walked over to the counter and rang for Yahoot, who came over shortly.

“We’re ready to pay,” the brunette informed his employer.

“Of course,” Yahoot replied, “By the way, we’re having a special deal for any Battle Network competitors. If you can beat one of us in a tournament NetBattle, you get your meal free.”

“Huh. So you actually found a way to earn Battle Points without even leaving the shop,” Lan noted, “Very clever.”

“Would you like to give it a try?” Yahoot asked as he took out his PET.

“I’d be happy to oblige.” Lan whipped out his PET and clicked it onto his wristband, “Jack in!! MegaMan, power up!”

“Jack in!! MagicMan, power up!”

A battle grid was formed and both MegaMan and MagicMan appeared on opposite sides.

“Battle Point chip in, download!” Both NetBattlers inserted their Battle Point chips and the counters appeared overhead.

“You have twenty-seven points and I have thirty,” MagicMan observed, “So you make the wager and I’ll just agree.”

“Alright. How about we wager three Battle Points?” suggested MegaMan, “That way if we win, our scores switch.”

“Then it is agreed. Let’s make this fight memorable, indeed.”

“Let’s go, MegaMan! Battle Points, a new chip, AND free lunch is too good of a deal to pass up!” Lan said enthusiastically, “Battle routine, set!”

“Execute!”

“Show me your might! Let us fight!”

BATTLE START

“I’ll start things off with a blast! I’ll summon a BugTank with the first spell I cast!” MagicMan held out his arm and a BugTank appeared in front of him. It homed in on MegaMan and fired a bomb from its cannon. The blue Navi jumped up and avoided getting it.

“V-Gun Battlechip in, download!” Land dragged and dropped the chip onto his Navi and MegaMan’s hand morphed into a blaster. He pointed it at MagicMan and fired.

“On most opponents, that would work. But against a Shadow, there’s just one quirk!” MagicMan called a Shadow virus forward and it took the hit of the V-Gun.

“A Shadow,” MegaMan muttered, “Only swords work against them.”

“Right you are, MegaMan. Now come and try my fan!” Again, MagicMan summoned a virus and a WindBox appeared, which blew a powerful wind that pushed MegaMan back.

“At the rate he can summon viruses, we’re never going to be able to land a hit on him!” MegaMan exclaimed.

“Then we’ll just have to get past those viruses!” Lan urged his Navi. MegaMan nodded in acknowledgement and formed his buster. He brought it forward and started shooting. His blasts hit the viruses and deleted them on contact.

“You’re deleting my viruses so you can clear a way, but I can summon more without delay!” True to MagicMan’s words, a BigBrute appeared before him and rushed at MegaMan.

“Katana3 Battlechip in, download!” MegaMan’s hand transformed into a steel sword and swung as the virus came at him. His blade severed its head from its body and deleted it before he turned on MagicMan and charged.

“Spare me the details, MagicMan! I’ll strike now before you can!” MegaMan appeared in front of his opponent and thrust his weapon forward.

“Magic Sword!” A purple sword slid out from MagicMan’s right bulb and he blocked MegaMan’s attack with ease, “You’ve improved since last we fought. Give me your all and show what you’ve got!” The wizard-like Navi pushed his opponent away and jumped back before summoning a Null&Void virus.

“This battle’s going to be tougher than I thought,” MegaMan whispered quietly to himself.

“Hang on, MegaMan. This should take care of that virus. Soul Unison: Elec Soul Battlechip in, download!” Electricity surrounded MegaMan’s body as it covered him in his Elec Soul armor.

“Thanks, Lan!” He brought his arms over his head, “Lightning Blast!” Lightning rained down from above and deleted the Null&Void as well as striking MagicMan.

That’s exactly what I was waiting for, thought Yahoot.

“Mushy Battlechip in, download!” The owner of the curry restaurant inserted the chip and watched as a Mushy appeared on the field.

“Electricity is weak against Wood. This is something you should have understood!” MagicMan pointed his bulb forward and the Mushy flew ahead and unleashed a cloud of spores that hit MegaMan, causing him to collapse on one knee.

“Lan,” the emerald-eyed Navi groaned, “Let’s try to avoid elemental Soul Unisons.”

“Agreed,” Lan replied, “Have a different one, then. Soul Unison: Dragon Soul Battlechip in, download!” The Elec Soul disappeared and MegaMan was swiftly re-armed with Dragon Soul.

“Dragon Flare!” His hand morphed into a dragon head and he fired several blasts from its mouth at MagicMan.

“Oh my, oh dear! Dominerd appear!” A Dominerd materialized in front of MagicMan and absorbed all the hits from MegaMan’s attack. The blue-haired Navi quickly closed his wings around his body and braced himself for the inevitable counterattack.

“Regular attacks aren’t going to work if MagicMan can summon any virus in existence,” Noah said as he leaned over Lan’s shoulder to watch the NetBattle, “Try something original, Lan. Use the unorthodox.”

“The unorthodox, huh?” Lan thought for a moment when an idea struck him, “That’s it! SandStage Battlechip in, download! Tornado Battlechip in, download!” MegaMan raised his hand over his head as it transformed into a fan and the entire battlefield suddenly became covered with sand.

“Tornado!” The emerald-eyed Navi brought his weapon forward and the propeller began to spin before unleashing a blast of air. The wind kicked up the sand and surrounded MagicMan with a cyclone of the fine grains.

“What are you trying to do? Is this something new?” the wizard Navi asked.

“Blower Battlechip in, download!” Lan slotted in the chip and MegaMan’s fan quickly changed to a red color and began spewing out fire. Flames surrounded MagicMan and when they finally died down, MegaMan’s opponent was encased in a block of glass.

“Works like ice but doesn’t melt,” Lan said cockily as MegaMan’s Dragon Soul expired.

“Very interesting move,” Yahoot commented, “I’m impressed. However, that cannot hold MagicMan forever and we’re prepared to show you what I mean. AreaGrab Battlechip in, download!” He dragged and dropped the chip onto his Navi and MagicMan’s colors inverted as he was teleported free from his glass prison.

“That was a most impressive display. But now you’re going to pay! Magic Fire!” MagicMan held out his arms and two streams of blue fire data poured out and flew towards MegaMan.

“Use the unorthodox!” Noah reminded.

“AquaBlade Battlechip in, download!” MegaMan’s hand transformed into a glowing blue steel blade and he sliced straight downward, cutting the Magic Fire in half.

“Hardhead attack! Don’t hold back!” A Hardhead virus appeared next to MagicMan and it shot a cannonball at the blue Navi. But MegaMan didn’t stop right after he finished splitting his opponent’s attack. He stuck the top of his sword against the floor and swung his feet up. He spun around and kicked the cannonball just as it reached him, sending it back at the Hardhead and destroying it.

“How’s that for original?” asked Lan, grinning.

“I expected nothing less from someone such as yourself, Lan,” Yahoot replied, “But this NetBattle is still on. Scuttlest Battlechip in, download!” Back on the battle grid, MagicMan raised his arms and all six different types of Scuttlest viruses appeared in a line in front of him.

“All six Scuttlests are ready to attack and not one of them is going to hold back,” MagicMan announced. He gave the signal and all six viruses unleashed their attacks on MegaMan. The blue Navi screamed as he was thrown back from the combo attack.

“MegaMan, are you okay?” Lan asked.

“I think so,” MegaMan groaned as he slowly got up.

“Then we’ll just have to fix that,” MagicMan interrupted, “Viruses, stomp him flat!”

“MegaMan, stay down!” Lan ordered. MegaMan quickly dropped back down and laid on the floor.

“Prism Battlechip in, download!” Lan inserted the chip into his PET and a large crystal appeared on the field. The viruses’ attacks struck the lustrous object and they were quickly reflected in a massive barrage in every possible direction. MagicMan raised his arms in front of his face as several beams shot back towards him and impaled the viruses, deleting them instantly. When it was finally over, he looked ahead and saw the aftermath of the Prism counterattack.

“Looks like it’s just you and me, MagicMan,” MegaMan called as he stood up.

“Muramasa Battlechip in, download!” The blue Navi held out his arm and the Muramasa appeared in his hand. He grasped the hilt firmly as the blade began to glow with a dark aura.

“Thanks to your Scuttlest attack, I’ve received enough damage to power up the Muramasa to a fairly strong level,” MegaMan said with a grin.

“But you’re so low on health, your chances are slim. Your future in this battle is very grim,” MagicMan replied.

“I’ll take that chance!” And with that, MegaMan charged forward. MagicMan held out his arms and fired streams and streams of Magic Fire, but his opponent simply dodged to the side and continued ahead. Within moments, the two Navis were just a foot away from each other and MegaMan swung his sword. The blade cut through MagicMan and forced him to log out.

MAGICMAN LOGGING OUT

With the battle over, Yahoot’s Battle Points dropped down to twenty-seven and Lan’s rose up to thirty.

“We won!” Lan exclaimed.

“Well done, Lan,” Yahoot congratulated, “And MegaMan, as well. You two did a fine job.”

“You and MagicMan were pretty good, too,” Lan replied.

“As promised, your meal is free,” Yahoot continued, “And take this as well, Lan.” He handed over his Scuttlest chip and Lan gratefully took it.

“Thanks, Yahoot.” He then turned to his friends, “Okay, our bill’s been taken care of. Now let’s get back out there and continue with the tournament!”

“Right!” The nine of them filed out of the restaurant and Yahoot watched them leave.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Lan and MegaMan will advance to the finals,” he thought out loud.

Well...it's better, but only by a touch.

I see you finally got the hang of writing combat scenarios again. Yes, this was nothing but a montage of tactics, and yes, it turned out to be moderately satisfying.

The "fire+sand=glass" tactic would have been rather impressive, had you not fallen back on that tactic many times before. Otherwise, the other little bits that you used seemed to be decently played, but I still feel that the combats are rather linear.

It's still quite an improvement over the last few chapters, though. Good work.

The...rhyming... it hurts! I found the rhyming really funny, which means I've really got to see the first season of NT warrior more often.

7/10. My review is what Midnight Critic said.

Yeah, this chapter is somewhat better. However the battle didn't really feel very uniform, it felt a collection of attacks and counterattacks thrown together with no regard for the flow of the battle.

There wasn't really that much to say about the chapter, since nothing happened and it was basically just one of those 'come-up-with-an-excuse-to-have-a-fight' scenerios. I don't really care for those.

6/10.

MagicMan's style, his form of ryhming. But all that ryhming got me hooked. *bricked for slight poorness.*

Good chapter AMZ. Sand+Fire=Glass tactic is "meh..." but seems good. The battle was interesting this time around for me. What happened to Fortissimo since Season One, he's forgotten right? But you don't need to answer that if you don't want to...

I give it 7/10.

The end bit of the battle was quite rushed, but this was undeniably better than the previous chapters you made.

Bass took the Shuryou Robot. Fortissimmo takes the Lord Viron Robot. Great minds think alike. So BrightMan is next.

It is clear that you read the reviews and mixed the battle up a bit, but it seems that you mixed it up in a way that made it more like a puzzle that needed to be rearranged than a well organized battle. I have to say that I am glad that we will be seeing more of Brightman; I just hope you use him well. Also, seeing as Megaman has souls of almost every other navi he has faced, it would be kinda interesting to see Bright soul. Lastly, I was extremely surprised to see that you didn't use magic soul in that battle, considering how much you used it earlier in the season.

This is one of the most interesting matches that I've ever seen so far and I hope that there's more like this where that came from. The battle is like the previous battles that you've just put up in the past chapters. In any case, this chapter is seriously making me want to try some curry. I bet it tastes good. Well, the chapter is good and the battle was just as good. Not to mention the fact that most of the characters is starting to deal more with the Crest of Arcadia. Not to mention the fact that I think that Noah is starting to pick up on Lan's habits. If you want my opinion, I think that the kid is starting to get attached to him. Well, good chapter as always man. Keep up the good work and hope to see some more good action soon. Later!

I made curried chicken tonight. If you haven't had curry before, you should try it at least once.

CHAPTER 3-29
Check It Out!

Bright lights and flashing signs were his domain and that was just the way he liked it. They always lifted his spirits when nothing else worked and it was also one of the best environments for him to battle in. He danced around the battle grid, which was lit up with countless neon lights and signs, as his opponent tried to shoot him down, but with no luck.

“Hold still!”

“But where’s the fun in that, hmm?” BrightMan grinned insanely as he snapped his fingers, “Check it out!” His opponent quickly armed himself with a sword and charged, but the light-loving Navi simply just moved out of the way and avoided getting hit.

“Bright Beam!” BrightMan’s helmet lights flashed and a beam of light shot out and hit his opponent in the back, “Hee hee hee! You’ll have to do better than that!” The other Navi turned around and ran in for another attack. Big mistake. BrightMan ducked the sword and brought up his antennas.

“Plug Lariat!” He stuck the plugs into his opponent’s body and drained him of his energy. He grinned as he finished him off with another Bright Beam. His opponent logged out and made a V-for-victory sign.

“Check it out!”

* * *

Chaud made his way through the streets with a small duffel bag in one hand and his other hand in his pocket.

“Where are we going, Chaud?” asked ProtoMan.

“Somewhere,” his operator replied, “Somewhere we can get lots of NetBattles without anyone knowing who we are.”

“And how do you propose we go about the second part?” ProtoMan inquired.

“I have my ways.”

Chaud eventually entered a part of the city called Neon Town. It was easily distinguishable by its flashing neon signs and bright colorful lights. It was essentially where all sorts of parties and raves had a tendency to be held. Chaud quickly ducked into an alley and unzipped his bag. A moment later, he came back out wearing his white disco suit, sunglasses, and black afro wig.

“Let’s go, ProtoMan.”

* * *

BrightMan was inside the computers of one of the district’s discos dancing to the beat of the new song that was playing while singing along with the music.

“My name is BrightMan. I’m the hippest Navi here. I’m wanna make sure that this l’il fact is clear. I’ll drain you with Plug Lariat and hit you with Bright Beam. Get you with my Energy Ball and take down any team. Check it out!” BrightMan danced around a bit as he continued to sing and grin, “Check it out!” A beep sounded and he looked up at the window to see into the disco. He saw Chaud walk in through the front door and his grin grew even wider.

“If I can take out ProtoMan, I can go way up the ranks! Check it out!”

* * *

Chaud stepped into the back office and displayed his Net Savior ID to the disco’s manager.

“I’ve come regarding the call.”

“Please, sit down. Our problem can’t hear us in here.” Chaud took a seat on the other side of the desk and listened to the manager explain the situation.

“The systems have been commandeered by a Navi who challenges everyone who walks in to a tournament NetBattle. It’s ruining my business.”

“And you want me to get him out, don’t you?”

“If it’s not too much trouble.”

“Well, since he’s challenging people to tournament battles, I guess I could rake in some Battle Points while I’m at it. Where’s your central terminal?”

“Take the door near the bathrooms, go down a flight of stairs and walk straight until you reach a big red pipe. Turn left and then make the second right. Make the first left and go up a short flight of stairs. Go to the end and climb the ladder into the air duct and crawl until you hear loud music. Turn right and continue on until you come up to another ladder and go down it. Make the third left and the first right, then the second left. Go up another ladder and you’re there.” Chaud just sat there giving the manager an unnerving stare.

“It’s right behind me.” He got up and stepped aside as Chaud walked up to the computer and jacked in ProtoMan.

“You go and find him, ProtoMan,” he ordered, “I’ll try to lure him out.”

“How?” the silver-haired Navi inquired. Chaud turned to the manager.

“Which way to your DJ station?”

* * *

BrightMan pulled his plugs out from his latest opponent and fired off an Energy Ball that forced him to log out.

“I win again!” he shrieked triumphantly, “Now I get your rarest chip! Check it out!” The operator grumbled as she inserted a Drain3 chip into her PET and it quickly turned blank as the chip data came to BrightMan.

“Another one for me!” he said grinning. His joy was short lived when the music suddenly changed.

“What’s this? Who changed the music?” he demanded.

In the real world, Chaud was at the DJ station running through the CD rack.

“If our Navi was here because of the music that was playing, maybe a change in pace should lure him out.” He found a CD that played some slow music and quickly popped it into the player before pressing PLAY. Almost immediately, everyone on the floor paired up and began to slow dance.

“This is no good! I’ve lost the rhythm!” BrightMan cried.

“So, you’re responsible for the problems.” The electric Navi turned around and saw ProtoMan standing there with his sword pointed at him.

“ProtoMan!”

“Chaud, I’ve found our man,” ProtoMan reported to his operator, “It’s BrightMan.”

“Good job, ProtoMan,” Chaud replied, “You know what to do.”

“Yes, sir.” The red-armored Navi took a step forward and BrightMan slowly backed away. However, his look of fear soon changed into one of confidence and his grin returned.

“I’ve been meaning to face you sometime, ProtoMan,” he chuckled, “Perhaps you’d like a NetBattle.”

“Challenge accepted,” Chaud answered as he discarded his costume, “Battle Point chip in, download!” His counter appeared over ProtoMan’s head and BrightMan called up his own score.

“I wager four Battle Points!” BrightMan declared.

“Four Battle Points it is,” Chaud replied, “Let’s go, ProtoMan. Battle routine, set!”

“Execute!”

“Check it out!”

BATTLE START

“Bright Beam!” BrightMan’s helmet lights flashed and a beam of light shot out towards ProtoMan. The silver-haired Navi jumped up and leapt over the beam.

“Too slow.”

“Oh really?” BrightMan grinned maniacally and snapped his fingers. His Bright Beam arced around and struck ProtoMan in the back, causing him to crash into the floor. BrightMan laughed and looked down at his opponent.

“Not off to a very good start, are you?” he mocked, “Check it out!”

“Katana1 Battlechip in, download!” ProtoMan’s sword disappeared and was quickly replaced with a samurai sword. He leapt back to his feet and charged. He brought his sword over his head and swung down as soon as he reached his opponent.

“Light Barrier!” Just as the blade came down, a crystalline wall appeared in front of BrightMan and blocked the attack, “Bright Beam!” ProtoMan quickly leaned back and let the beam fire over him.

“My barrier keeps me safe from any attack you throw at me!” the eccentric Navi laughed, “Energy Ball!” He held out his hands and a ball of light appeared in front of his palms before he fired it at ProtoMan. The silver-haired Navi ducked as it came, but it turned around and flew at him from behind.

“RockCube Battlechip in, download!” Chaud dragged and dropped the chip and a stone Rubik’s cube appeared behind his Navi and blocked the attack. Once he knew it was safe, ProtoMan backflipped over the block and kicked it forward. BrightMan was caught off guard and the cubic rock struck him hard and smashed him against the wall of the arena.

“Excellent counterattack, ProtoMan,” Chaud commended.

“It was your chip that allowed me the liberty,” ProtoMan commented. The RockCube suddenly exploded and BrightMan stepped forward with a DrillArm3 on his hand. He threw himself at his opponent and missed as ProtoMan sidestepped away.

“Impressive, ProtoMan. The use of an obstacle to block my attack and then counterattack was unique,” BrightMan observed, “You even succeeded to break through my barrier.”

“Less talk, more fighting!” ProtoMan demanded. BrightMan grinned and snapped his fingers.

“Check it out!” His hand morphed into a pair of electrodes and he fired several ZapRing3s at his opponent. ProtoMan dashed to the side to avoid getting hit and occasionally taking a swing at one in case it came too close.

“Thunder3!” BrightMan’s other hand transformed into another pair of electrodes and he began launching slow-moving balls of electricity that made their way towards ProtoMan while he continued to fire ZapRing3s.

“Chaud, I need a new sword!” The scarlet swordsman swung his blade to knock away a thunder ball and continued running, “I need something more resilient to electric attacks.”

“I think I’ve got just the thing. GaiaSword Battlechip in, download!” ProtoMan’s katana disappeared and his blade was replaced by a wide white and red sword covered with vines. He swung his new weapon and neutralized all the electric attacks just before they closed in on him. BrightMan frowned but he didn’t let this get to him as he fired another Bright Beam.

“I don’t think so.” ProtoMan brought up his sword and blocked the attack with the flat side before charging ahead.

“Plug Lariat!” BrightMan ducked and the GaiaSword swung over his head. No sooner had ProtoMan made his attack, he lashed out with his antennas and plugged them into his opponent’s back. The swordsman turned and gasped while he simply just grinned.

“Check it out!” With one swift motion, he drained some of ProtoMan’s energy and added it to his own. The Net Savior Navi freed himself by cutting his captor’s cables and jumped away. As soon as he got a safe distance away, he pulled the plugs out of his body and dropped them to the floor.

“Recover150!” BrightMan induced a recovery chip onto himself and his plugs quickly grew back, “I’m not so easy to beat, ProtoMan.”

“I’ve noticed,” the swordsman muttered.

“Check it out! Bright Beam!” BrightMan fired another beam and ProtoMan sidestepped while deflecting the shot away.

“Satellite3!” A Shaky3 virus appeared in front of the electric Navi and made its way towards his opponent. Chaud saw this coming and sent in a Guardian chip. A grey idol appeared on the field and the Shaky3 stopped and began to orbit it.

“VariableSword Battlechip in, download!” ProtoMan was re-equipped with the arrow-shaped blade and he fired a Sonic Boom at his opponent.

“ElecBlade!” BrightMan’s hand changed into a sparking steel blade and he sliced downward, cutting the Sonic Boom in two and sending the halves crashing into the wall behind him, “Energy Ball!” ProtoMan saw the oncoming light ball and turned his sword sideways. He swung his arm and hit the Shaky3 that was circling the Guardian with the flat side of his blade. It flew forward and intercepted the Energy Ball, causing both to explode on contact.

“AreaGrab!” BrightMan activated the chip and his colors inverted as he teleported over to his opponent, returning to normal when he arrived, “Plug Lariat!” He lashed out with his plugs and ProtoMan used his sword as a pivot while he kicked his feet up and spun around to knock the deadly cords away.

“You’re not sucking my energy again,” he muttered. BrightMan turned around and grinned.

“We’ll just see about that! Check it out!” He struck out again and again with his plugs and advanced as ProtoMan backed away, using his sword to deflect the snake-like extensions.

“I’ve had enough of this,” Chaud mumbled. He sent in an AntiElec and a lightning rod appeared. ProtoMan jumped back and allowed his opponent to plug into it. Immediately, the obstacle retaliated with a blast of electricity that not even BrightMan could handle.

“I’ll get you for that!” he cursed, “Energy Ball!” ProtoMan backflipped away and landed behind the Guardian. The Energy Ball struck its face and the idol unleashed its Punisher attack.

“You attack to rashly,” ProtoMan chided to a now-smoking BrightMan. The dazzling Navi shook his head vigorously and gritted his teeth.

“I will show you! Bright Beam!” His helmet lights flashed once again and a beam of light shot out towards ProtoMan.

“BambooSword Battlechip in, download!” ProtoMan raised his new weapon and blocked.

“ElecSword!” BrightMan’s hand changed into a sparking blue blade and the two Navis charged at each other. They swung out at the same time and locked swords. The two of them planted their feet firmly against the floor as they tried to overpower one another.

“You can’t win against me!” BrightMan yelled.

“Just try me,” ProtoMan replied. His shield formed on his left arm and he used it to push his opponent away. BrightMan stumbled back and lost his balance, falling flat on his back.

“Let’s finish this now, ProtoMan,” Chaud ordered his Navi, “GaiaBlade Battlechip in, download!”

“Roger that.” ProtoMan’s left hand changed into the GaiaBlade and he donned his mouthguard. He held his swords out to his sides and started spinning rapidly until he became nothing more than a cyclone of red. BrightMan picked himself up off the floor and gasped as he saw his opponent advancing towards him.

“Plug…”

“Too slow!” The crimson cyclone engulfed BrightMan and ProtoMan slashed him with his two Wood-element swords. After a few more seconds, he finally stopped and landed while BrightMan crashed into the floor behind him.

“Check it out…” BrightMan gasped and the battle ended. The four Battle Points that BrightMan wagered were subtracted from his score and added to his opponent’s.

“Well executed, ProtoMan,” Chaud commented.

“All because of you.” ProtoMan removed his mouthguard and his swords disappeared. He got back up and walked over to the fallen BrightMan.

“You lost. Now hand over your rarest chip.” BrightMan reluctantly extracted a piece of chip data and handed it to ProtoMan, who uploaded it into the blank chip Chaud had just inserted into his PET. The Net Savior took out the chip and looked at it.

“A Lightning chip. Impressive,” he noted, “Well ProtoMan, our job here is done. Log out.”

“Roger.” ProtoMan turned to BrightMan, “Good luck in the rest of the tournament.”

PROTOMAN LOGGING OUT

After the NetBattle was over, Chaud went to the manager and gave him his full report.

“Things should be okay now that BrightMan’s been taken care of.”

“Thank you. Is there anything I can do to repay you?”

“Nothing.” And with that, Chaud flipped back his bangs and left.

“Interesting battle that was,” ProtoMan commented.

“But hopefully there’ll be no more like it.”

* * *

BrightMan wandered the network of the Neon Town following his defeat. He needed someway to make himself feel better.

“Hello there.” The electric Navi turned his head and saw Leviathan approaching him.

“Would you like a NetBattle?” she asked. BrightMan’s grin returned and he snapped his fingers.

“Check it out!”

Gutsman vs. Tomahawkman? Wow, didn't see that one coming. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
