Odd.
I'll admit, it did seem a touch better than the previous few. This is slowly but surely an upswing in quality. However, I'm still not entranced by the combat situations--they're still rather bland. True, I did see some surprise tactics, and that brought it up a bit, but it still lacked that punch that some other fics have.
Otherwise...decently good. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy

Well, I've got to say that this is one of the most interesting chapters that I've ever come across since the last one. Brightman is still a bit like the weird little bright navi that he is and boy was it really....interesting. Neon Town sounds like a place that I've read once in a newspaper for when I was doing a report on Marti Gras. Either that, or something like Las Vegas. In any case, the battle was real interesting and it was good to see Chaud in that disco suit again, well so to speak. I hope that the battle between TomahawkMan and GutsMan goes well. Later!

Lesse... Song was horrible IMO, but battle was better than others.
The arc's starting to get a bit boring now, mainly because of the chapters that were nothing but fighting, and the ones that are feel like it's tacked on after you wrote the fight.
Despite that, next chapter sounds interesting though. |

The song was supposed to be based on MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This”. However, I’ve only heard the Family Guy version, “Can’t Touch Me”, so yeah it turned out crappy.

CHAPTER 3-30
Hatchets and Fists
Dingo slowly entered through the front door of Maha Ichiban and walked behind the counter.
“I’m back,” he called.
“Dingo, maybe you should take the rest of the day off,” Yahoot suggested.
“Why?”
“You left with that delivery five hours ago,” Madd scolded.
“Just take the rest of the day off and take part in the tournament.”
“Do you really mean it?” asked Dingo.
“Just go,” grumbled Mr. Match. Before anyone knew it, Dingo was out the door.
“Where should we go first?” he asked his Navi.
“It doesn’t matter,” answered TomahawkMan, “We only have five Battle Points so just battle anyone so we can get more.”
“And I know how to do it.” Dingo took out his tomahawk and prayed silently for a moment before throwing it up into the air. TomahawkMan sighed. This was going to be a very long day.
* * *
Dex examined all his tournament winnings and sighed.
“Why do my opponents always give me punch-type chips?” he asked to no one in particular.
“Maybe because of the way we fight,” GutsMan suggested, “If we change it, we might get something different.”
“It’s worth a shot,” Dex replied, “I mean, Chaud’s not using an all-sword folder, so why should I use an all-punch folder?” He sat down on a bus stop bench and began to reorganize his folder. He took out several punch chips, keeping only his best ones, and repalced the others with a variety of other chips.
“Ready to try out our new folder?” Dex asked GutsMan, who nodded in response. It didn’t take them long to find an opponent and soon GutsMan was battling with an entirely new style.
“CustomSword Battlechip in, download!” GutsMan’s hand morphed into an orangish-red blade and he chopped down on his opponent.
“Guts Buster!” No sooner had he finished attacking, he morphed his hand into his machinegun buster, pressed it against his opponent’s chest, and started firing, causing the Navi to stumble back.
“Don’t give up,” Dex’s opponent urged, “Fight back!”
“No you don’t,” Dex smirked, “DrillArm3 Battlechip in, download!” GutsMan’s CustomSword transformed into a drill and he thrust it into his opponent, causing him to log out.
“We win again!”
* * *
“Tomahawk Air Raid!” TomahawkMan swung his arm and threw his tomahawk forward. It spun around like a buzzsaw as it flew towards the HealNavi he was fighting and slashed him upward before returning to its owner.
“I’ll get you!” Dingo’s operator growled, “Program Advance! FlameLine3 Battlechip in, triple download!”
“FlameCross3!” The HealNavi fired off a burst of flames and it struck the floor in the center of TomahawkMan’s area before spreading out like a cross.
“Totem Pole!” Right on command, TomahawkMan’s totem pole appeared, “Totem Shield!” The red and white layers turned around, leaving only the green to face forward, which surrounded TomahawkMan with a green protective aura that shielded him from the fire.
“Finish it, TomahawkMan!” Dingo commanded.
“Tomahawk Rolling!” TomahawkMan leapt on top of his totem pole and his body was surrounded by a red aura as he jumped off and spun towards his opponent, striking him with full power and forcing him to log out. After the match had finished, Dingo received a Guardian chip from his opponent before he left.
“That’s another win for us, Dingo,” TomahawkMan said cheerfully, “We’ve shot up from five Battle Points to forty in just one and a half hours. But still, you’re risking too many points per battle.”
“I have to wager all my points if I want to get to the finals faster,” Dingo explained, “The more I can double my score, the sooner I can get in.”
“But one loss and you lose everything.”
“That’s fine by me. If we lose once, then we don’t deserve to make it into the finals.” At first, TomahawkMan thought it was stupid logic, but as he thought more about it, it slowly began to make sense.
“I guess that would work,” he finally agreed.
“Then let’s move on to win our next match!” Dingo said enthusiastically. His mood took on a sudden change when his stomach growled and he facefaulted.
“But first, let’s get something to eat.”
“Okay.”
A few minutes later, Dingo sat himself down at a table right outside a café and gave the waitress his order, who returned with his food shortly and he started devouring it as quickly as he could.
“Dingo, slow down,” urged TomahawkMan, “You’re going to choke yourself.”
“But I need to eat fast so I can return to the tournament,” Dingo replied with his mouth full. He suddenly gagged and TomahawkMan gasped.
“Dingo!” The Native Netopian NetBattler quickly grabbed his glass of water and drank several gulps before letting out a sigh of relief.
“I’m fine, TomahawkMan,” Dingo assured his Navi. He set his glass back on the table and resumed eating at the same speed. As he ate, Dex passed by the café and noticed him.
“Hey, Dingo!” Dingo looked up from his meal and waved back before returning to the task at hand. Dex walked up to him and stood in front of the table as he waited for the red-haired NetBattler to finish. Finally, Dingo managed to clean off his plates and sat back in his chair.
“That was good food!” he complimented. He left some money on the table and got up.
“Alright, time to get back to the tournament!” he declared before he began to rush off.
“Wait, Dingo!” Dex called. Dingo stopped in his tracks and turned around.
“Oh, hello Dex,” he greeted, “I take it you’re in the tournament, too?”
“That’s right.”
“Well then, would you like to have a NetBattle with me? I can get some extra Battle Points and work off that meal at the same time.”
“He’s very eager,” TomahawkMan explained.
“I noticed,” Dex replied, “Well if it gets you to settle down, why not? Jack in!! GutsMan, power up!”
“Jack in!! TomahawkMan, power up!”
The two beams hit each others’ PETs and a battle grid was formed. GutsMan appeared on the red side while TomahawkMan landed on the blue side.
“Battle Point chip in, download!” Dex and Dingo inserted their chips and their scores appeared overhead.
“I’m betting all my Battle Points!” Dingo declared.
“Wait!” Dex interrupted, “You’ve got more Battle Points than I do, so I have to make the bet.”
“Fine. What are we fighting for?”
“I’m putting up five Battle Points,” Dex announced.
“So little?” Dingo whined, “Fine, five Battle Points then.”
“Are you ready, GutsMan?” Dex asked his Navi. GutsMan replied with a loud battle cry and pounded his chest.
“Let’s go, TomahawkMan!” Dingo said into his PET, “Battle routine, set!”
“Execute!”
BATTLE START
“Tomahawk Air Raid!” TomahawkMan wasted no time in beginning his attack as soon as the battle began. He threw his tomahawk forward and it spun towards GutsMan at rapid speeds.
“You can’t dodge it, GutsMan. So block it!” Dex ordered.
“GUTS!” GutsMan balled up his fist as the tomahawk came and thrust out his punch. He succeeded in knocking the axe away and it returned to its place on TomahawkMan’s arm.
“TomahawkMan, don’t let up,” Dingo urged, “WoodPowder Battlechip in, download!”
“WoodPowder!” TomahawkMan raised his hand over his head and a Wonder virus dropped down and blew a cloud of powder at GutsMan. Some of the particles hit the floor and grass instantly sprung up where they had landed. GutsMan was shielding himself from the attack and was slowly backing away.
“This NetBattle has only just begun,” Dex smirked, “Spreader Battlechip in, download!” GutsMan’s hand morphed into a spread gun and as soon as the powder storm had died down, he brought his weapon forward and fired. The shot burst into nine beams and they all wailed on TomahawkMan like hail.
“TomahawkMan!” Dingo gasped, but was relieved when his Navi got up and brushed himself off.
“I’m just fine, Dingo,” he assured his operator, “But you better send in a GrassStage.”
“I understand, TomahawkMan.” Dingo reached into his pocket and pulled out a GrassStage chip, which he slotted into his PET. Instantly, grass grew out of all the panels and turned the battle grid into a field.
“Totem Pole!” TomahawkMan held out his hands and summoned his totem pole, “Totem Meteor!” The white and green layers turned around and faced the Wood-element NetNavi, leaving the red layer facing GutsMan. Meteors began to rain down on the large Navi from above. GutsMan tried his best to avoid them, but his large size made him an easy target. While he was busy dodging, TomahawkMan stepped forward and raised his arm.
“Tomahawk Air Raid!” He swung and launched his tomahawk again. This time it struck GutsMan. It bounced off his armor and flew back to TomahawkMan.
“Pull yourself together, GutsMan,” Dex said scoldingly, “ZeusHammer Battlechip in, download!” A giant red hammer appeared in GutsMan’s hand and he slammed it against the floor. The resulting tremors hit everything that wasn’t in the air and thus the totem pole ceased its attack while TomahawkMan took some damage. GutsMan also took a share of pain from his attack, but he recovered quickly enough and attacked with Guts Hammer.
“PanelOut1 Battlechip in, download!” Dingo loaded a PanelOut1 into his PET and TomahawkMan slammed his tomahawk into the floor and destroyed the panel right in front of him, blocking GutsMan’s attack.
“Totem Recovery!” The totem pole’s layers turned around until only the white part was facing forward and a white aura surrounded TomahawkMan’s body as some of his wounds were healed.
“Guts Buster!” The smaller Navi didn’t have time to enjoy the soothing feel of the recovery technique as he dove aside to avoid getting hit by GutsMan’s machinegun buster. While the attack failed to hit him, it did succeed in striking the totem pole, causing the healing to stop.
“I must say, Dex, your new style of NetBattling impresses me,” Dingo commented.
“Thanks. You’re doing pretty good, too,” Dex replied before the two of them returned their attentions to the NetBattle.
“Tomahawk Swing!” TomahawkMan swung his tomahawk and the blade struck GutsMan. The large Navi stepped back and shook his head before bringing up his fists.
“ElementFlare Battlechip in, download!” Dex slotted in the chip and GutsMan’s hand transformed into a flame-thrower. He pointed the weapon at TomahawkMan and fired a long stream of flames at him.
“Dingo, he’s distracted!” the axe-handed Navi informed his operator, “Get him now.”
“Lance Battlechip in, download!” As GutsMan continued his attack, a set of bamboo spears shot out from behind him and struck him in the back. He was completely unprepared for the assault and was easily taken by surprise. TomahawkMan took advantage of his stunned state and ran in to attack.
“Tomahawk Swing!” He struck GutsMan hard and knocked him flat onto his back.
“He’s not going down that easily,” Dex mumbled, “Wrecker Battlechip in, download!” As GutsMan got up, a black steel ball appeared in his hand. When it had fully formed, he brought it up close to his head and threw it at his opponent like a shot-put.
“I’ve got it!” TomahawkMan declared as he brought back his arm.
“TomahawkMan, don’t!” Dingo yelled, but it was too late.
“Tomahawk Swing!” TomahawkMan swung with all his might and the flat side of his tomahawk connected with the Wrecker. What happened next was something that he didn’t expect, but everyone else did. The metal ball smashed his weapon into pieces and hit him in the chest. TomahawkMan fell over backwards and coughed.
“Are you alright, TomahawkMan?” Dingo asked. TomahawkMan rolled the Wrecker off his body and slowly got to his feet.
“I’m fine, Dingo.”
“I warned you not to do that.”
“Well, I won’t again. But for now I need a new weapon.”
“I think this should help. Boomer Battlechip in, download!” TomahawkMan’s broken tomahawk handle disappeared and a boomerang launcher took its place. He brought his arm back and flung the projectile forward. GutsMan quickly ducked and it sailed over his head.
“You missed,” Dex smirked.
“Nope. We’re right on target.” Dingo grinned as the boomerang came back around and struck GutsMan on the back of the head. He then slotted in a BambooSword and the launcher on TomahawkMan’s arm was replaced with a long green blade.
“Totem Shield!” The totem pole shifted around until the green segment was facing forward and a green protective aura surrounded TomahawkMan’s body. Now that he was protected against any attack, he rushed ahead towards his opponent.
“Quick, GutsMan. GoldFist Battlechip in, download!” Dex inserted a chip and GutsMan’s hand was quickly encased in gold. He raised his arm up and blocked the BambooSword just as it came down. TomahawkMan kicked his feet up and planted them against the GoldFist before pushing himself back away from his opponent. He landed on top of his totem pole and stood up.
“I think it’s been long enough, Dingo,” he said to his operator. The Wood-element Navi discarded his BambooSword and a new tomahawk appeared on his arm.
“Get him, GutsMan!” Dex commanded as he slotted in three FireHit3 chips. GutsMan’s fists started burning fiercely and he unleashed a series of flaming rapid punches.
“Boxer3!”
“Evade and attack!” Dingo ordered. TomahawkMan jumped up from his totem pole high into the air, avoiding the flaming attack, and curled up into a ball.
“Tomahawk Rolling!” A red aura surrounded his body as he began to spin and he flew towards GutsMan at full speed. He shot past his punches and slammed right into his chest, causing the large Navi to fall back and log out.
GUTSMAN LOGGING OUT
The battle ended and Dex’s five wagered Battle Points were transferred to Dingo’s score.
“That was a great match, Dex,” Dingo commented as he and Dex shook hands.
“I enjoyed it to,” Dex replied, “and that’s why I don’t have any remorse about giving you this.” He held out his ZeusHammer and Dingo took it with gratitude.
“Good luck in the rest of the tournament,” he wished the aspiring chef.
“You, too,” Dex answered. The two of them bid farewell and went separate ways.
“Sorry, I lost,” GutsMan apologized.
“Don’t be,” Dex assured him, “If there was someone I had to lose to, I’m glad it was Dingo. Plus, we’re still in the tournament, remember? Our Battle Points haven’t hit zero yet.” GutsMan looked up at his operator and smiled.
“Yeah, guts!”
* * *
“That was one of the best battles I’ve ever had,” Dingo thought out loud, “Maybe we’ll get to fight Lan and MegaMan in this tournament.”
“That sounds like something to work toward,” TomahawkMan replied with a smile, “Let’s do it.”
“Yeah!”

Well...
I admit that this turned out to be still not too bad. Nothing about it stuck out as being utterly horrible, but nothing about it was exemplary either.
Dingo's mentality of going "all-in" on every combat struck me as something that simply, well, doesn't seem to be him. Sure he seems to be brash, but I don't feel he is to a great enough degree to put all of his chips into the pot at every juncture he can. Besides, I can't think of people who got to high places by doing a constant string of double-or-nothings.
Other than that, it was a fair read. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy

Nothing really stood out about the past two chapters.
The BrightMan vs. ProtoMan battle was fairly well animated, and there were a couple of standard strategies that were put together well enough that it helped the chapter rank higher.
I'm guessing that it was your writing style that resulted in Chaud breaking the rule of tempo, which made me cringe.
As towards Guts vs. Dingo, I didn't really care for the chapter. Again it was a pointless filler without much of a plot, and I'm getting tired of those.
Something tells me we're in for a Season 1 cameo in the next chapter. _________________

I like it when Dex loses. That and the fact that Dingo came back made the chapter ok in my eyes. But, I am still worried the Brightman will get killed again, that forissimo is dead, and I dream of forte revealing himself near the end of the tournament and slaughtering a huge amount of opponents before barely making it to the finals. I realize that that would be bad and just plain wouldn't work, but I really miss having him arounnd. Maybe if you could just have a character say, "I wonder what happened to Forte," then fall asleep or die; I would be happy. It's about time that both Dingo and TomahawkMan gets some action. Well, that and added with the fact that Dingo messed up more deliveries than the guy that I know from Pizza Hut. In any case, this is a good chapter and that battle that you've put up is perhaps the best one that I've seen so far. But what's name of that Program Advance that Dex and GutsMan just used? Oh, and Dingo is kind of getting a bit reckless by just throwing his tomahawk in the air in order to find his way towards his deliveries. Well, I hope that the next chapter would be as interesting as this one. Now, I've got an uncompleted story line that I've got to finish up so that I wouldn't have too many things on my mind. Well, later!

CHAPTER 3-31
Onslaught of the Program Advances
Noah looked back and forth as he exited the MetroStation. When he was sure no one was looking, he stuffed his plushie under his shirt and pulled his hood over his head. With that done, he quickly walked past SciLab and made his way to the dock. He saw that the Queen Bohemia was docked and opened to the public, so he ascended the gangplank and board the ship. Once he was on, he pulled off his hood and took out his plushie.
“Lumine, did you see any scientists on the way in?” he asked as he raised his arm up and looked at his Navi on the screen.
“None,” Lumine replied as he shook his head.
“That’s good.” He walked down the corridor from the ship’s entrance and into the hallway just outside the banquet hall.
“Welcome to the Queen Bohemia,” a member of the ship staff greeted, “No voyages are currently scheduled for the next three months, so everyone is welcome to explore the ship. If you’re interested, we have guided tours every hour that meet up right here. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any one of us.”
“Uh, sure,” Noah replied, sweatdropping, “Thanks for the offer.” He turned around and quickly headed out onto the deck.
“That guy was way too cheerful. It’s just freakish,” he soliloquized. He moved to the port side of the ship and sat down on one of the deck chairs, casting his gaze onto the open sea. Reaching into his pocket, he produced a half-eaten sandwich and broke off a few pieces of bread to throw onto the deck. Almost immediately, seagulls flew in and started to gobble up the morsels. As he fed the birds, two kids, a brother and a sister, about seven and six years old respectively came running from the stern. The two of them were playing a game of tag and the sister was it. Noah couldn’t help but smile as he watched them. Finally, he got up and walked over to them.
“Can I play, too?” he asked. The siblings looked at each other for a moment before turning to the boy genius.
“Okay!” they replied simultaneously. Noah tied his plushie to his belt by its scarf and joined the two kids in their game. He laughed as the three of them ran around on the deck trying to run away from the “it” person, who in turn chased after them trying to tag one of the others. Noah couldn’t remember the last time he had a chance to just be a kid and play around with other kids in his age group. He laughed as he was tagged in the back by the girl and proceeded to turn around and chase after her. The game continued on for half an hour as they ran all over the deck, finally collapsing on a deck chair to catch their breath.
“That was fun,” Noah commented between breaths as he untied his plushie and hugged it tightly.
“Uh-huh,” the boy replied. After a few minutes of resting, the girl stood up.
“Let’s go see how daddy is doing, brother,” she suggested.
“Okay.” The two siblings headed towards the bow and Noah followed closely behind them. A ring of people had formed around the NetBattle machine were a man in his early thirties was battling a younger man with dark blue hair. On the holographic display, everyone watched as a blue and black Navi with two large batteries on his power pack beat the living daylights out of a yellow Normal Navi. It wasn’t long before the blue and black Navi claimed victory and the rest of his opponent’s Battle Points were added to his score.
“I win!” the youth declared. The older man collapsed and the two kids Noah had spent the past thirty minutes playing with ran up to him.
“Papa!” they cried. The older man looked at them and smiled.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t win,” he whispered to them, “I guess we’ll just have to get money some other way.”
“But how?” asked the girl, “Mommy’s been in the hospital for a month already!” That’s when Noah stepped in.
“May I ask why you need the tournament prize money, sir?” he asked politely. The man looked at him and explained the situation.
“My wife has cancer, you see. She’s been in hospital for about a month now. The doctors have a special treatment that can cure her completely, but we just don’t have the money for it. That’s why I entered this tournament. For her sake.” Noah nodded with understanding.
“A very noble cause,” he commented. Unable to take the younger man’s gloating a second longer, he stepped up to the NetBattle machine.
“Hey, you!” he called, which immediately caught his attention, “How about facing me?”
“I’d be glad to,” the youth replied, “Prepare to get creamed.”
“Don’t count on it.” Noah pulled back his sleeve and attached his solar sensor accessory to his PET before he aimed it at the jack-in sensor, “Jack in!! Lumine, power up!” A thin red beam of light shot out into the NetBattle machine and Lumine appeared on the field in a shower of pixels.
“You’re Takao Pa, aren’t you?” Noah inquired of his opponent, “Fourth-year student at Den University majoring in Computer Sciences and minoring in Native Netopian Studies.”
“How do you know that?” Takao demanded.
“We go to the same school, that’s why,” Noah replied, “I see you every day in the QUAD between classes at around noon.”
“Just who the hell are you?”
“Noah Kaiyou, Ph. D student.”
“You’re Noah Kaiyou?” the father asked. Noah turned and looked at him.
“Don’t worry, sir. I can help you get the money you need for your wife’s operator.” He turned back to Takao and inserted his Battle Point chip, “So how much are we wagering here?”
“I’m putting up fifteen Battle Points.”
“Fifteen Battle Points it is, then,” Noah agreed.
“Kick his ass, CustomMan!” Takao said spiritedly to his Navi.
“This will be over quick,” CustomMan chortled.
“Battle routine, set!” Noah yelled.
“Execute!”
BATTLE START
“You’re going down! Just like everyone else,” Takao taunted, “Mega Cannon Battlechip in, download!”
“Program Advance!” CustomMan clapped his hands together and they morphed into a giant red cannon, “GigaCannon3!” He fired a massive burst of energy towards Lumine.
“Dodge it, Lumine!” Noah ordered. The lavender-haired Navi dove to the side and the blast struck the wall.
“I see,” the boy genius said, “Now I understand, Takao. Your Navi is programmed to instantly give you a Program Advance depending on what chip you put in.”
“You catch on fast,” Takao commented, “But it’s not going to help you win this fight. I have every chip I need to pull off just about every single Program Advance ever created.”
“Don’t act so cocky. There’s a way around everything.”
“We’ll see about that. QuadNeedle Battlechip in, download!”
“Arrows!” CustomMan’s hand morphed into a bow and he fired a massive string of arrows at his opponent.
“Heaven’s Judgement!” Lumine opened up his wings and levitated off the floor. His lens slid over his eye and several crosshairs targeted the arrows. He spread out his wings and fired a multitude of feathers. His attack intercepted his opponent’s and the few feathers that remained flew in and struck CustomMan in the chest.
“See if you can get past our defenses,” Takao challenged, “Barrier Battlechip in, download!”
“Barrier500!” CustomMan raised his arms and a protective sphere surrounded his body.
“That won’t be too hard,” Noah replied, “NorthWind Battlechip in, download!” As Lumine landed back on the floor and his wings retracted into his back, a powerful wind blew in from behind him and dispelled the barrier. Once the shield was gone, he formed six feathers in his hands.
“Feather Kunai!” He threw all six weapons and they struck CustomMan on every part of his body.
“You can’t win against me,” the blue and black Navi shouted, “I have an endless supply of Program Advances at my disposal.”
“Less gloating, more fighting,” responded Lumine as he jumped back to avoid getting hit by a Hyper Burst.
“Perhaps if you held still long enough, that could be arranged,” CustomMan growled. Even though he was designed to enhance any chip into a Program Advance, he still couldn’t move while he was executing an attack. Takao had created him strictly for power, not speed, and it wasn’t long before Noah and Lumine picked up on this.
“Hit him again, Lumine!” Noah ordered.
“Feather Kunai!” As CustomMan fired off another Program Advance, Lumine spread his wings and flew over him. He landed behind his opponent and stabbed his weapon at his back.
“CurseShield1 Battlechip in, download!”
“Curse!” A Dominerd appeared behind CustomMan and blocked Lumine’s attack. The white-armored Navi gasped as the monolithic virus opened its mouth and bit him hard in retaliation.
“Take him out while he’s stunned, CustomMan,” Takao commanded, “Vulcan3 Battlechip in, download!”
“InfiniteVulcan3!” CustomMan’s hand morphed into a gattling gun and he opened fire on his opponent. Lumine quickly closed up his wings and the bullets ricocheted off the surface.
“Try to get in closer, Lumine,” Noah urged. Lumine did as he was told and floated closer to his opponent. CustomMan continued to fire on his target, not letting up for even a second. His attack ceased when a bullet bounced off Lumine’s wings and struck him in the leg.
“Using the ricochet to your advantage,” Takao muttered, “Not bad.”
“Tell me something, Takao,” said Noah, “Why are you in this tournament?”
“Why else? I want to get filthy stinking rich quick.”
“A selfish motive,” Noah thought aloud, “And a shallow one, as well. Greed can gain you nothing, Takao. It only leads to corruption.”
“Why should I listen to you?” Takao demanded, “You’re just a kid with two eye colors. If that’s not freakish, I don’t know what is.”
“WHO ARE YOU CALLING A KAKASHI HATAKE WANNABE?!?!?!” Noah’s sudden outburst caused everyone to jump back out of surprise.
“And why do you carry that doll with you everywhere? You look like a total baby,” Takao taunted.
“Sabata is very special to me and if anything were to happen to him, I’d never forgive the person to did it,” the boy explained calmly as he hugged his plushie tightly.
“Whatever,” the blunette said, brushing it off, “Let’s just continue so I can end this. TwinFang3 Battlechip in, download!”
“BeastFang3!” Lumine retracted his wings and jumped back as CustomMan fired a storm of walrus tusks at him.
“Pulsar3, RockCube Battlechips in, download!” Noah dragged and dropped the chips onto his Navi and Lumine’s hand morphed into a speaker. He fired a sonic wave and a RockCube appeared right in front of it. The attack hit the obstacle and the resulting wave spread out in all directions and hit the fangs, knocking them off their paths and thus disrupting the Program Advance.
“Air vibrations can disrupt anything if the force is great enough,” Noah explained with a grin, “And if I’m not mistaken, you’re almost out of chips.”
“Not for long.” Takao took out his rarest chip and slotted it into his PET, “FolderBack Battlechip in, download!” Instantly, all his chips were recharged and he returned them to his folder.
“Gun Del Sol EX Battlechip in, download!” The solar gun appeared in Lumine’s hand and he fired several shots at his opponent.
“Spreader Battlechip in, double download!” Takao dragged and dropped two chip onto his Navi and a small x5 symbol appeared in the bottom right corner of his screen.
“Megadeus Burst!” CustomMan brought his weapon forward and fired. Lumine was hit and the beam pushed him back several meters.
“Beat that!” Takao laughed.
“We intend to,” Noah replied as he re-angled his PET to capture maximum sunlight with his solar sensor, “Django Battlechip in, download!” A coffin slammed around CustomMan and fell onto its back. A Sol De Vice appeared on Lumine’s hand and he held it up and fired a beam of sunlight. Four rocks fell and a quartet of sunbeams shot down and spun around the coffin. When the attack finished, the lid popped off and CustomMan was thrown out onto the floor before it disappeared. The solar gauntlet disappeared from Lumine’s arm and he threw three Feather Kunais that struck his opponent in the back.
“So you use a Boktai folder,” Takao noted, “Interesting.” He slotted in a Gun Del Sol 1 chip and the Pile Driver rose up around Lumine.
“Pile Driver!” CustomMan yelled the Program Advance at the top of his lungs and watched, but nothing happened.
“What’s going on, CustomMan?” asked Takao, “Attack now!”
“I’m trying, but the Pile Driver won’t respond,” CustomMan replied.
“How come?”
“I don’t know.”
“I can answer that,” Noah offered, which caused Takao to turn to him, “The Pile Driver needs sunlight and in order for sunlight to reach the PET, you need a solar sensor.” His opponent’s jaw dropped.
“Fortunately, I have a solar sensor,” Noah continued as CustomMan’s Pile Driver disappeared, “Now let me show you what a purification should really look like!” He reached into his pocket and produced three chips.
“Don’t you need all three Gun Del Sol chips to pull off that Program Advance?” asked Takao.
“This is the newer version. Gun Del Sol 3 Battlechip in, download! Gun Del Sol 3 Battlechip in, download! DjangoSP Battlechip in, download!” Three blocks displaying each of the chips connected on Noah’s screen and the words “Program Advance” appeared. Inside the NetBattle machine, Lumine’s hands morphed into Gun Del Sol 3’s and he raised them over his head, where they fused together. The light died and his hands returned to normal as the entire battle arena grew brighter. A large seal appeared with CustomMan standing in the middle. The design flashed red and four generators rose up around him. Noah downloaded a LongBlade to his Navi and Lumine ran to each one, hitting them with his sword until the mirrors all pointed at CustomMan. The white-armored Navi then moved over to a flashing circle with a glowing A in the center and held up his hand. Noah raised his arm over his head and faced the solar sensor directly at the sun.
“TAIYOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” As Noah screamed, the Pile Driver activated and four solid beams of sunlight shot out from the mirrors and hit CustomMan.
“It’s hot!”
“I’m not going down without a fight,” Takao growled, “Sword Battlechip in, download!”
“LifeSword!” CustomMan grasped the sword and swung at Lumine, who dashed to the side and dodged it. The blue and black Navi reached out to try to deactivate one of the generators, but his opponent swung his sword at him and knocked him away.
“You can’t keep your PET up forever,” Takao called, “Your arm will get tired eventually.”
He’s right, thought Noah, My muscles will get tired before this is over if it doesn’t end soon enough. Already, he could feel his arm starting to shake as his muscles slowly began to ache. After a while, he found himself struggling just to keep his arm up.
“You’re already faltering,” Takao laughed, “CustomMan, get ready to attack.” Noah strained to keep his position, but was failing miserably. Finally, he couldn’t take much more and his arm relaxed.
Suddenly, he felt two parts of hands on him. He turned and saw the two kids holding up his arm for him.
“You can do it,” the boy urged.
“You’re our big brother!” the girl cried.
“Big brother?” Noah looked at the kids for a moment and nodded. He turned back to Takao as they held his arm up for him.
“Looks like this is the end, Takao!” he called out. The Solar Piles finally drained the last of CustomMan’s power and the batteries on his pack exploded. The Pile Driver ceased its actions and disappeared, dropping a smoking Navi onto the floor.
“My…my…batteries,” he gasped before losing consciousness. CustomMan was logged out and he returned to his operator’s PET. Fifteen Battle Points were then subtracted from Takao’s score and added to Noah’s.
“You did it!” the kids cheered happily as they released their hold and Noah lowered his arm. He breathed a sigh of relief and gave them a smile before he logged out Lumine and walked over to Takao.
“You lost, so give me your rarest chip,” he demanded.
“No,” Takao replied, “I won’t accept the fact that I lost to you. Nothing could overpowered my Program Advance folder! You must have cheated!”
“How could I have cheated?” asked Noah, “I won fair and square, so give me your chip.”
“I said no!” A beep came from Takao’s PET and the screen flashed red. He took a glance at it and his remaining Battle Points suddenly dropped to zero.
“What happened?” he demanded. A silhouette of the person who had organized the tournament suddenly appeared on his screen.
“Takao Pa, by refusing to hand over your rarest chip to your opponent upon defeat, you are thus disqualified from the rest of the Battle Network tournament.” The transmission ended and the navy-haired youth stared at his PET.
“I’m…out of the tournament?”
“Serves you right,” Noah muttered. By now, the crowd was yelling at Takao to hand over his rarest chip. In the end, he grudgingly took out his FolderBack and gave it to the white-haired boy. He then go up and trudged off. Noah put the FolderBack away and walked over to the man and his children.
“I’m sorry you got knocked out of the tournament by that jerk,” he apologized.
“Don’t worry about it, Mr. Kaiyou,” the man said, “I’m just glad you were able to put that young man in his place. We’ll find another way to get the funds.”
“Wait a second, sir,” Noah called after them as they began to leave. The man turned back around and looked at the prepubescent prodigy.
“I was only able to beat Takao. There’s no guarantee I’ll win the tournament. So if I may, allow me to provide you with the money.” Noah tucked his plushie under his arm and took out a chequebook and a pen. He quickly wrote out a cheque and handed it to the man, who looked at the slip of paper he had just been given and then at Noah.
“This is…” he began.
“Please take it. It’s the least I can do.” The man graciously accepted the cheque and bowed.
“Thank you, Mr. Kaiyou. This is very generous.”
“Please, call me Noah.” The kids walked up to Noah looked up at him.
“Big brother…” Noah smiled as he placed his hands on their shoulders.
“I had a lot of fun playing with you two today. I hope we can do it again sometime.”
“We look forward to it, big brother,” the boy said cheerfully.
“Come play with us again, soon,” the girl chimed in. Noah chuckled and turned to leave the ship. When he got off the gangplank and onto the dock, he cast one final glance and saw them standing at the railing waving. He waved back in response and left to seek out his next match.

This is a very nice chapter. I love it dude. At least I finally get to see a Program Advance folder. The only thing is that Takao PA should have at least be fair with him. I guess he learned his lesson the hard way. Noah was great in battle. I loved the chapter and I look forward to the next chapter. Looks like WindMan will have something to do with this. _________________

Hmm.
Oddly enough, this actually seems to be rather well-done. The combat scene seemed to be more animate this time, and it was better and slightly easier to read.
However, what prevented this from going down easily was the eerily obvious rips from YGO. The whole concept of a crusading protagonist going up against an avaricious antagonist reeks of the original dubbed season of YGO, and the situation with a loved one with an ailment does nothing to relieve this. Other than that, I have no other qualms with this chapter. Good job. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! This is, I agree, much better than the previous chapters you wrote. I particularly like the twist at the end. _________________
