WHY do we play games?

I want to know why we play games, not just megaman games and such. I mean ALL GAMES. Why do we play them?

I play games a f**** lot, I think that i play games because in games you CAN make a diffrens, in real life I cant really change a thing. That's the primary reason, other reasons are to escape from reality for a while. And everyone needs a hobbie right?

Games are a good escape from reality and calm you down. Makes life just a bit more worth living.

They entertain people, they let people relax and jsut get absorbed in the game, and they allow intereaction between the gamer and the character they play as.

In games they have lives, so if we had a mistake we could just reset the game unlike real life

Beyond thinking about the video games we play, you can ask why we play (anything) at all. I think the most important part is for entertainment. I personally play because I believe it streghtens my mind strategically. I love nothing more than getting headaches from puzzels, and watching my friends scream in fustration when they can't take me down (yes, I like to torture people mentally. I take psychology after all).

In real life you CAN make a difference. Why do I play games? Well, unlike most people, I need mental stimulation and I don't get it by rotting my brain and staring at a TV. I play any type of game as long as it usually has a strategic approach. Games ranging from something as easy yet complex as Pokemon to games just with a few goals like Sonic the Hedgehog. Even Poker or Chess, or Texas Hold 'em

In fact mental stimulation helps you to live longer. even makes you a better person if you play for a reason other than just to play for entertainment.

Why? To get out of reality. To not be BORED OUT OF MY MIND. To get ideas for my Star Wars RPG. To play things I like. Mny reasons.

Graphics, gameplay, oldies (Pacman. Wonka wonka wonka!), etc.
