What are the differences between the old version and this "Platinum" thing...? |

I do know they did a version lately where they restored all the episodes digitally, since the colour was a lot duller in the original. If this is the version you are referring to however, I do not know. _________________

Platinum edition is just a fancy way for them to say DIGITALLY REMASTERED, and it has I believe a total of 2 extra commentaries through the entire series. _________________ I didn't lose my mind, I sold it on eBay!

So, if an Eva fan had all of the old DVDs, would it make any sense at all to buy the "platinum" edition? |

Well, it's the same reason why people would buy the digitally remastered Star Wars films. It's up to you, you're not going to get anything new really but they will look slightly prettier. _________________

Well, yeah it was digitally remastered. The last two discs also contain the director's cuts for the last six episodes along with the original versions for those episodes. And if I'm not mistaken, I do beilieve that they redubbed the entire series so that the voices match those on the director's cuts. I wouldn't have gotten it, except that my copy of the series was stolen, so I was more than happy to get the Platinum Edition as a replacement. I'd still like to have the satisfaction of beating that thief until he's a cripple, but I guess that won't happen. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

Platinum Edition, as far as I can tell, has one extra, four DX episodes, which shed some light on [spoil:838c7668d3]The first angel Adam[/spoil:838c7668d3].
If theres anything else, I have'nt noticed it yet.
And yeah, I have the Platinum Edition, which I watched all the way thru this morning...*yawns* |
