This might not help the sony exclusive thing, but on G4 Tech TV's website, they're saying Soul Calibur 3 might come out for the PSP.
Curse you, Sony....

If it would be a PSP game, I'd have to laugh derisively. How would Namco expect to make money if the game was on that little junk thing? Bleah, bleah, vomit on the PSP. Regardless of what they have, I've no interest in the PSP. Dreamcast was the one with Soul Caliber, and I wasn't about to get that either. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

Hey YOU! :grr: Spawn, spragan or what his name is have no chance to beat Link. Speed and hits are the best combo that Link can pull that leaves his foe wondering what hit them. They said its still in the proto stage and it's possible to release it in the gamecube version. It said on the trailer. -_-; _________________ I was Heromanexe, but now transform into HUB!

Spawn has good offense. Link has "speed" (Although Talim and Taki still best him in that category.) Spawn also has a levitation attack, which at the right time can avoid horizontal blows and follow up with a nice attack afterwards. Link has nice moves, but Spawn bests him in power. |

I am probably one of the strongest Link supporters there are, But Even I have to say that after playing both of them, Spawn would probably win.
Spawn is pretty fast himself, maybe not as fast as Link, but his "Chainsaw" attacks(Those attacks with the Axe spinning in his hand...) are deadly, and they have stun.
Then after that, He has his power moves, which practically blow right through most defenses. His ABB combo when you delay the last hit will break through just aboutanyones block. (thats the Reverse Back stroke to the spin vertical, to the slow Overhead Arc Smash.) _________________ (Warning: Reading these suggestions may lead to anger, cramps, burning pain of the hand, and the Urge to severely injure submitting author. I know this is several months old, but I want to play it safe. So, anybody got Soul Calibur III, now?
I got it today, and IMO this is what a sequel is all about. This acts more as a sequel to SC1 than SC2 did. Difficulty was really amped up, but I'm really enjoying it so far. SC3 really recaptured the epic feeling that SC1 had and SC2 lost.
This game also has a better soundtrack than SC2, again IMO. There are both tracks from SC2 and orchestrated versions of some of the themes from SC1 (for those who didn't know, SC1's music had synthesizers). From what I've heard so far, they've added in the appropriate SC1 themes to the correct stage--Proving Grounds retains its theme, Taki's stage has the theme for Hoko Temple, Indian Port now contains Harbor of Souls, Silk Road Ruins has its old theme back.
I've heard that In the Name of the Father (Ostrheinburg Castle in SC1) isn't in here, oh well.
Few first impressions:
Tales of Souls: Went through this with Talim, who I practiced with against Tira to get the hang of things. I got pwned by Raphael and Taki several times over, but I thoroughly enjoyed each pouncing--it really shows the AI change between the games. There are interactive cutscenes similar to Resident Evil 4.
Also, Talim's good ending is funny. The next tale I plan to go through is Yun-sung, though I need to practice with him some more.
You unlock bonus characters when you face them and beat them. I've unlocked Rock so far.
Chronicles of Soul: Even more fun, it works as an RTS (Real Time Strategy). You take your created character through a series of chronicles and people join up with you. Then you capture strongholds via normal versus battle means. You can also control the growth of the stats of your units by what kind of unit they are. Very cool.
If you're curious, I created a female theif in my image. There is a max of 10 created characters you can have on one memory card. You start with three and buy the extra slots. I'm hoping to create Eliwood from Fire Emblem some time soon.
Character Creation itself is very customizable, above what I expected. You unlock more stuff from buying it from the shops or beating a chronicle.
A note on the main characters--I believe everybody had their movelists changed one way or another. For example, Talim no longer has her (I believe) 66BB move that knocks the enemy down when the second hit connects. Relearning the characters isn't all that difficult--quite fun, actually. Patience is the key. The difficulty went up to punish button mashers, so you WILL have to guard or master Guard Impacting. Stances play a more important role, too--easy way to avoid attacks.
Oh, and if you're really pissed off about the difficulty, abuse throws like there's no tomorrow. That's how I beat Raphael, since his range was killing me (though oddly enough, Nightmare didn't give me that much more trouble).
Uh, what else... if you come across something like 'just input', it's just another term for Guard Break when you hold the button down. You'll know you've done a just input if there's a blue crackle around your weapon.
I'm not sure on this, but I'm really hoping that Hwang has his old moveset when you unlock him. No doubt he had some of the coolest throws in the game and his kicks were awesome.
Fortunately I have a four-day weekend (including today), so I'll try to update my progress and answer any questions as I go. _________________ Hmm... Defenestration is such a fun word. |

I've been following the project soul website every update so even if it won't come on the cube till later (cause everyone knows it has to) I'll still keep up with all the info.
So is hwang back? He hasn't been in a game since before II. Some of the best news is rock's back and he was a favorite character of mine. Sadly he doesn't have his ax anymore but as long as his new mace controls like his ax did I can beat voldo up just the same. And lizardman has an ax so that's good.
I'm looking forward to playing and making a character or two. |

It was on the original Playstation! Soul Edge on Playstation, Soul Caliber on Dreamcast, then Soul Caliber II on the three systems. You might have some trouble finding it these days, but I'm sure there's a store somewhere that carries an old copy of Soul Edge. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

Just read an article about Soul Calibur III now available in stores...this after finally beating Soul Calibur II with Heihachi (I have the PS2 version). III has been the talk of my arcade-going hacker friends since the day it appeared on the rumor boards, so this looks to be a future classic.
Raphael and Nightmare have always been my favorite characters before mitigating to Ivy. Hopefully the new game will add lots of interesting new features and moves...or at least add more effects to make the old ones look flashier. Technically speaking, Hwang was in SC2, just under the guise of Assassin. Anyway, I've read Hwang doesn't get his old moveset back... T_T (No Gatling Kick!) it's one of the Create a Character styles. I think it's the same deal with Li Long.
So I went through Practice Mode and Tales of Souls some more...
Yun-seong: I hate the new spelling of his name, but eh. He's much better here, Crane and Land Walk are more useful and has some great moves. He was a lot easier to play than Talim in my experience.
The other thing I dislike about him is his costumes...Color Edit aside, I detest his 2P costume. Really wished that they kept the SC2 2P.
Cassandra: I love the sarcastic, angry attitude in her lines. I hadn't played with her that much in SC2, so I can't really make the comparison. I know she kept Nasty Impale (B6) but got rid of the combo versions of it. Guardian's Wings is much easier to do (2B, 8B, ABB) since it has no slide input.
Raphael: Hey, he's no longer as fruity as he was in SC2! Regardless, he too plays quite a bit better--one of my favorite new moves of his is 6B+K, which seems to always catch the enemy off guard and stun them. I also find myself using Preparation (II, I think--they removed the rest) and Quick Parade as well. 6BBB is still spammable, though.
His 2P costume is horrible! >D Vampire pimp suit's the way to go.
Setsuka: She's fast, very fast. Very nice combos but slow kicks (my favorite kick is Jump+K--she uses her umbrella to support herself! Nice touch). But her range is PITIFUL. I kept on getting slaughtered by Zasalamel and Abyss. I'm just glad I didn't have to face Kilik.
The textures on her 1P costume are gorgeous--it really does look like it's made of silk!
Kilik: His voice improved much, that's for certain. And they got rid of Bo Tap! :D (that's 6A, I believe). I hated the short range, I think it was given to the Heavy Lance moveset. Quite a bit of his moves are different, too. They got rid of 8_2 * BBBB (Building Bridges, if I'm not mistaken) in favor of a shorter version. I'm not sure if this was in the last game, but Monument (that's 236) now has a LOT more ways to segue into Heaven's Monument. The base is essentially 236ABK, A+B and variations thereof (236BK, A+B, stuff like that).
I had the fewest losses with him when I went through his Tales of Souls, surprisingly enough. I'm considering making him my main instead of Talim... Or maybe it's just a sign I'm getting better. This game forces it to happen.
The next people I plan to go through Tales is Xianghua and Seigfried. From what little I played of Seigfried so far he plays much like SC2 Nightmare. He still has his Side Stance and Back Stance, Headbutt and Rook Splitter.
And his P2 costume is one of the best costumes in the game--he looks like an actual knight.
Anyway, I've unlocked Lizardman, Yoshimitsu, Sophitia and Cervantes now.
Really, I haven't had this much fun with a fighting game since I button-mashed my way through SC1's Arcade Mode with Ivy when I was 9 (go Insanity Light!). _________________ Hmm... Defenestration is such a fun word. |

For the record, I do remember reading that SC3 was going to be on the next gen systems. Can't remember where however. But Anywho, the move sets of returning charaters have been changed and or modified, Kilik no longer splits when you do that backward-fireball type thing of his, he just poses then attacks, Taki can't move around when using posession, and you can't move while Soul Charging anymore. Small things but annoying. However everything else isquite nice. Graphics have been refined, making SC@ look a bit old. And Abyss makes Inferno look like a met in comparison. Not as gimicky and much harder. You might want to get used to the movesets before you play the first time. AND Chronicles of Souls is fun, but battles have 10 second load times. Understandable but it takes the some fun out of it. I've just about unlocked all the official people. Alas Hwang is just a Edit Mode person, not usable in Tales of SOuls mode. Lizardman is official though. And Olcadon is the new charade. >_> Don't waste money on his stuff. |

I don't understand Namco... They are doing Mario Baseball, Mario Kart Arcade GP, and others, for Nintendo, but SCIII is only on PS2... IMO, Sony gave them a lot of money for this exclusivity (like Prince of Persia Sands of Time). But I hope that like POPSoT, it will only be temporary.
So Namco, hear Nintendo fans : give us SCIII. Maybe not with Link since it has been done, but Ganondorf, or one guy from the Fire Emblem series could be nice.
And if Link could be back... then GIVE him his Onilink outfit from Majora's Mask (the costume that Link missed in SCII to be perfect) _________________ KnightSoul will protect you |

My sister's boyfriend/roomate got the game today. I only screwed around with the character customization a bit and created Galaxy Angel Forte... in a bikini...
Character customization is a high point, better than Guilty Gear's create a recolor. |

My digital camera is very shitty to make a screen cap. Also I made Forte with whatever I could use at the beggining. I pray Neal starts playing through Chronicles of the Swords so I can get better parts to work with.
Here's Kos Mos at least...
