I'm having difficulties as well.
On the Anime and Manga section of this forum, there is now a torrent of Stream 1-51. Ryouko said that you can pick-and-choose your downloads if you have Bit-Tornado and using U-Torrent.
The problem is, I can't do the pick-and-choose part. I've read the FAQ for U-Torrent without much help coming from it.
It is all right if someone clears me up on how to use this thing?
All is appreciated,
Arumakan |

I would like to know WHY DOES A TORRENT FILE TAKE SOOOOOOOOO LONG TO DOWNLOAD??! :grr: My wireless internet connection is pretty fast, but, the download still TAKES TOO LONG! Is it becuase the server for downloading bittorrent files, since I get all my torrents from www.WPP-fansubs.com , like, VERY slow or something? One torrent episode takes like, a few hours, when episode downloads only take about a few minutes. Are these files like, very slow data, or is it the connection? :/ |

It depends on how many seeds you connect to. Some torrents no longer have people downloading, so you won't get anything out of them. So if you find a torrent with less than ten seeds, scrap it. _________________

You don't download from websites with BitTorrent. It's a P2P program. Peer-to-peer, human to human downloading, not server to human. That's why some Bit Torrent clients can continue downloading even if the server is down. It's also why you can't download at all when there's nobody sharing (seeding) the file, even if the server is up, fine and dandy. _________________ Make a random avatar/ banner. | Atomic Fire's oekaki board. |

Just started using Bit Comet yesterday, is it normal to upload more than you download? Since I seem to be downloading about a half of what I upload. -_-; _________________

Torrents usually go in proportion to your upload, so about half the time that you are uploading and the other half you are downloading. It also depends on amount of seeders I think, since if there are none it will usually just share with the peers till reaches point where all it can do is upload to them what you have. _________________

Isn't there like, a bittorrent program that works faster than the others? Like, downloading torrents go a bit more faster or something? Please be MAC OSX... :/ |

Well, I'm downloading the 1-51 Ep Torrent of Stream of Saito Raws and I've downloaded about 330 Mb and uploaded 470 Mb. It just confuses me a little but if that's normal then I won't worry. Also I think I exceeded the download limit for the month so it may have something to do with that.
And I've read this thread a few time and Protosword I don't believe there is. P2P programs in speed are the same as web browsers, it's your connection speed that sets the download rate not the browser. _________________

It's quite common for your upload to far exceed your download, as your upload is based purely upon your connection, whereas download is based upon and shared between the seeders and leechers of the file. On average, I upload about anywhere between 40-120kb/s, but I can never really give an estimate on download, since it's not really based on my speed very much. >>
Also, certain BT clients seem faster than others, but the only one off the top of my head is Bit Comet, which for some reason seems to severely slow my(and a friend's) internet connection, yet it seems to download faster than other clients. I might just be imagining it, though. |

That makes little sense... your upload is going to depend on the peer's ability to download and the number of peers, just as your download is going to be based on how much the seed is able to upload, and the number of seeds/peers.

Maybe it's slowing your connection because it's downloading faster?
It's very unlikely that you'll see higher speeds by changing clients, though. To make the most of it, not doing anything transfer-heavy helps alot. Keeping only a few torrents going at a time does, too.

I cannot describe how horrible that advice is. Unless it's something expected to be big, most torrents will start with 1 whole seed. 9 people sharing a complete file that nobody is downloading is hardly bad, and neither is 1 or 2. _________________ Greatness is achieved through the pursuit of greatness. |

I was just bored and browsing through this thread, and I can't believe no one talked about firewalls. Basically, Bit Torrent is a p2p (peer-to-peer) program, so if you have a firewall blocking Bit Torrent (Say, norton or Windows.), how do you expect to connect to anyone? >__> So most of you guys' problem could be firewalls that slows down your speed, as I usually gets 90 something kilobytes with a DSL over a Saito-Raws. XD.
Also, a well reminded note, it's not only the seeder that seed. While the other peers are leeching, they are also uploading, so they could have files you are missing. That's why most of the people waits until most of the peers have nearly-completed file, thus making their download speed go boom. XD.
Also, another problem that might cause slow speed is your opened IP address. By going to your router connection preference (mostly accessible by going to http://192.168.1.1), you can choose options to open up more ports so more people can connect you. Then again, this is complicated stuff, and can mess up your router, so I don't recommend you to do this unless you are an advance user. >___>

99.99% of the time (from my experience) There are no WAY that a torrent is corrupted. It's usually that there are too little seeds, or you just can't connect. And thus more, it is 100% that the torrent is not corrupted if you can download from it, even if it's slow.

I agree with SR, that is not a good advice. Even if it's one seed, you can still get it. <__< And besides, like I said, if there are a lot of other peers also seeding it, you probably will get a fast speed. _________________

I use wireless cable (not dial-up!) and it is taking 2 days -.-;; Wow.. that is really dumb.
The max I've gotten up to is 5kbs.... and I don't got any other downloads running.
Now I know why I hate Bittorent |

2 days isn't a lot. You don't pay for the electricity nor the Internet, just leave the PC on at night. If your parents complain, run a virusscan and claim that it takes too long to do during the day. _________________ Make a random avatar/ banner. | Atomic Fire's oekaki board. |

It also depends on who is seeding, sometimes people with equally good connections will seed, but if a slow dial-up user seeds you'll get a slow transfer. _________________

I have an ADSL router with interfering firewalls off, and my Saito-Raws Stream torrent downloads at variable rates from 1-80kB/s... You probably just have a VERY good connection. _________________

Interesting thread. Mostly on the client side, though.
I'd like to know how the trackers work.
I kinda noticed that when downloading the old EXE and Axess subs from WPP, if there's only two of us seeding and/or leeching, the upload and download bit rates are zero, no matter how long we stay online. The appearance of a third peer speeds things up a WHOLE lot.
Then on Saito-Raws, I sometimes see on the tracker page that there are 0 seeders and 5 leechers in one episode, so I line that ep for seeding, but even a half-hour later, no peers show up in the list when you check the peer list by the torrent client (I use BT 4.4.1, btw).
I've been seeding up to three eps/torrents whenever I'm online, and it was kinda frustrating that I wanted to help with the seeding but nothing's moving :-/ |
