The picture in question has been copied, but not traced, off a magazine fashion advertisement, because my art teacher loves to make her students copy things in order to get a more real feel for them. So, please do criticise, because I need help in drawing realistically. <<
This is the original. My scanner doesn't scan magazines well. >>

HOLY F***!!!
That's freaking AMAZING! How on earth did you accomplish this?! The shading is phenominal! You should do more things like this? Unless you hate it of course...I hate drawing this way as well. _________________

Ooohhhh, so pretty. Damn, I think you're better than me at this now. :D
My only nitpick is that the shading on the fur seems rather light and she could probably use a little more shading around her nose, especially beneath her nostrils, as well as under her neck, to emphasize the lighting angle of the original pic a little bit more. Unless of course you meant to have the light shining directly at her, in which case I see hardly anything wrong.
This is a very different style, and pulled off very well. Congrats Nazne; this one knocked my socks off. _________________ Better to keep your mouth shut and make people wonder if you are stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. |

*jaw drop* O_O That is just...AMAZING...I can never come close to that in realistic drawings, and I don't think you really need any help in this kind of thing at all. Only one minor thing though, the hair should be just a wee bit messier around the forhead. Anyway, the shading is superb, I adore how it all blends together, and I like how you were able to manage that necklace there, but on the smaller gems, they somewhat appear to be vines with leaves. (I don't know, that's just my opinion). Superexcellent work, Nazne. ^^ |

It looks very beautiful. ^^ If I were you, I'd shade the necklace a bit more, but whenever it comes to shading with pencils or charcoal for me, I tend to overdo it and make it much more messy than it was before. Either way, whatever alternative you can come up may always be better. _________________ I'll remember that day, and I won't let it go. |

THAT... IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!
Oh my god, the amount of detail is awesome and the movement is spectacular, I have no words for this piece of art... I just... want to see more x.x.
P.S: I think you should add "OT" to the tittle since it's not Rockman related... _________________ "Girl, My PET isn't a hotel, Understood?"

Oh my. This is just...utterly fantastic.
The shading is exquisite all throughout the drawing. If I didn't know any better I would swear that, at first blush, this drawing came out of a badly maintained copy machine.
I will echo what has been said before--the only ambiguity in the drawing it at the boundary of the fur and the model's upper torso--the way you have it drawn seems to blend TOO well, and doesn't distinguish between the skin and the frilly edge itself. Perhaps you could try to add a bit more definition there to make the edge a bit more firm.
Other than that...it looks absolutely magnificent. Great job, and it makes me feel even worse that I cannot draw anyting worthy even of the Kingdom of Loathing. :< _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! This looks like you scanned it into the comp and turned it greyscale.(that's a compliment, dont take it the other way.) The fur doesnt look very furry, but I couldnt do this if my life depended on it ,so who's talking?(me, of course) _________________

Nazne, you are REALLY good at real life portraits. Have you ever considered trying still life? You could make a bundle by doing portraits or something. Of course, I know nothing about the economics and how much real life artists make, but yeah! _________________

I'll say one thing: You're hella lot better than me a copying and at real-life portraits. And you have better use of the pencil. Hell, my pencil shading is absolute crap. X_x;;

Vanilla/Ming/Midnight/Feepits: Yes, I did utterly BS the fur, because by the time I'd gotten around to doing it - I didn't feel like doing it any more. XD Thanks for pointing it out, though. My art teacher suggested to shade the outside region and "draw" in the fur with an eraser, and I'll try that when I can get back to this. /o/
Panda: The gems were interesting, but they got monotonous after like the seventieth one, and I just stopped trying to make them look like *real* gems for the smaller ones. ^^; It's kinda hard to tell on the original as well.
Malik: I just got lucky on this one, I swear :o But I'll remember that. I need more practice in drawing portraiture and still life in general. XD
On the shading, I used softer-lead pencils, then smudged them across with a bit of tissue. It works better than just penciling the entire thing in.
Thank you all for the kind comments. /o/

Nazne, your art teacher sounds soo much like mine. I can't draw worth crud unless it is fan art but then it is still realy bad. Your image looks around 100% more realistic than anything I can do. The shading is soo good.
My art teacher wont let us copy from any Paintings or drawings because it is someone elses work. So all the images we use for painting, and graph drawing, and Pen and Ink have to PHOTOGRAPHS from magazines. It bites it has to be a photograph, and he doesn't count a photo of a drawing as a photo. But good work on your drawing. _________________ I didn't lose my mind, I sold it on eBay!

Woah, I think you did a really nice job. Copying is a good way to practice lines and anatomy, I still do it to practice once in a while (though I end up feeling bad XD). I really love the shading on her shoulders, and the necklace. I think it looks great. _________________ deviantART / Live Journal / Yaoi Gallery |
