Well what happened was that when I got into megaman for the first time they were bearly showing the old school version on fox. My dad and I didn't get along as well at that time so I started hating megaman since it reminded me of my dad. After 9 years of never speaking or hearing about megaman I suddenly get into it again, More than I was before, then I met your wife she told me about the story and that's how I first knew about bass.

Episode 7: Examination

~18 August 200X~Early Morning~

Yuu woke early this morning and went to Lyne’s room. I wonder what Famous is all worked up about? Lyne seemed fine to me, but then again, she could always hide symptoms well, he thought as he approached his sleeping daughter and gently shook her.

“Lyne, time to get up. You have an appointment this morning.”

Lyne stirred and then looked at her father, confused, rubbing her eyes of sleep.

“Come on. Hurry up, and get ready. It’s in an hour at IPC Labs,” her father said as he let go of Lyne’s shoulders.

“*Yawn* What time is it dad?” Lyne asked as she sat up in her bed and stretched.

“7 am. Get up, shower, and get dressed. I want to see you downstairs and eating breakfast in ten minutes,” her father said as he left her room and closed her door.

“Grouch!” Lyne said as she got out of her bed and stretched again.

“I heard that. Five minutes,” her father shouted through her door. Lyne looked shocked that her father heard her comment and sped into her bathroom, taking one of the quickest showers she had ever attempted. After her shower, she got dressed in her usual attire, grabbed her Bag and PET, and went downstairs to breakfast. When she got downstairs, she noticed Raika already up, reading the morning paper and drinking a cup of coffee, which he usually did every morning since he arrived, but something didn’t feel right. She nervously sat down at the dining room table and began to eat her breakfast.

What’s going on this morning? Why didn’t dad tell me I had an appointment earlier? Something’s up! ‘Cause 1) dad is acting all serious, and 2) Raika is giving off creepy vibes, she thought as she finished up her breakfast, And it’s at IPC Labs. What’s going on?

Her father then walked into the dining room wearing his lab coat, grabbed a piece of toast, wolfed it down in seconds, and grabbed the keys to his Helivan.

“Come on Lyne. Let’s go, or we’ll be late,” her father beckoned her to come with him.

Lyne stood up from the table and crossed her arms. “I’m not leaving until you tell me what’s going on Dad.” Dr. Hikari nodded in Raika’s general direction. Raika put the morning paper down on the table, stood up, grabbed Lyne by the arm, and dragged her to the front door. “Let go of me!! I asked my father a question!” Lyne shouted in protest as she started to hit Raika’s arm, trying to force him to let go of her. Her hand missed once, hitting something hard on Raika’s side. Shocked, Lyne stopped protesting and allowed Raika to lead her out the front door. That’s why he had creepy vibes. Raika is armed. How did he get that past me? I thought he was on leave, not on duty. This is confusing, Lyne thought as Raika guided her to the Helivan parked in the driveway and opened the back doors.

“Get in,” Raika commanded as he let go of her arm. Lyne glared at him angrily, but complied, getting into the van, sitting down, and buckling up. Raika got into the seat next to her after he closed the doors and knocked on the back of the cab, letting Lyne’s father know they were ready to go. The van’s engine started.

“I hate this van,” Lyne said angrily as Raika buckled into his seat. The van lurched as it started to lift off. “Van’s weren’t meant to fly. I also hate guns,” Lyne said as she gave him another angry glare. “You’re supposed to be off duty and on leave.”

“What do you expect when you tell nobody you’re sick. IPC and SciLab aren’t the only ones concerned about your welfare,” Raika said as he crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back in his seat. He looked over at Lyne, “You should be ashamed of yourself! Not telling anyone you were sick!”

Lyne hung her head. This was the first time Raika had really scolded her. “How did you find out?”

“Searchman told me. He was concerned, and Meg told him. I bet she wouldn’t have told him if she wasn’t concerned too. You know what happens when you’re around computer viruses.”

Lyne nodded as she lifted her head, “Last night, I felt really crappy, but I feel fine today. It’s not serious,” Lyne said as she smiled at Raika. Raika gave Lyne a seriously angry look. She looked away and remained silent for the rest of the trip as the van made its way awkwardly across the sky towards IPC Labs.

Meanwhile on the roof of the main IPC building, Mr. Famous stood watching the sky for any sign of his friend, Yuu.

“So she caught a cold,” a voice said behind him in an arrogant tone.

“That’s what Searchman informed me. I see you’ve come early. You don’t have to be here until after the appointment Chaud.”

“You should know by now I care for all the investments I inherited from my father while he's away. Especially, Lyne Hikari. I’m not going to lose the last Mind Jumper we have like my father did the others.”

Famous nodded in agreement. IPC and SciLab lost most of their best mind jumpers just before the Pharaohman incident to an organization called Zodiac. After that, Lyne was their only hope. Famous felt ashamed of what he did back then, and what he had recently created with his friend Yuuchiro Hikari.

“Then you know the risks for Lyne as well Chaud. That’s a good lad. Tell my staff to get ready and I’ll be down shortly,” Famous said as he noticed a van shaped silhouette hovering in the sky, coming towards them. Chaud ran off towards the roof exit, also noticing the van silhouette. The Helivan touched down shortly after Chaud had left.

Yuu got out of the van and approached Famous. “I suggest you be careful. She started to act really stubborn this morning.”

Famous looked at Yuu slyly and said, “I wonder where she gets it from?”

Yuu thought about what Famous had said for a moment to try and figure out what he had meant. “Hey!! Don’t point fingers at me. She acts more like her mother on PMS,” Yuu said as he crossed his arms over his chest. Raika then got out of the van and escorted Lyne to where the two scientists were standing.

“And how are you doing today, Lyne?” Famous asked as he turned to face Lyne.

“I’m fine. Let’s get this over with. Then maybe you’ll believe that I’m fine. *humph*” Lyne said as she held her head high walking past them with Raika following not to far behind her. Both scientists stood there for a second dumbfounded.

“No that’s worse then Haruka on PMS,” Famous said as he and Yuu followed them inside. I really hope it’s not worse then what Searchman had described to me last night, Famous thought as the group entered his lab. He ushered Chaud and Raika to the waiting room across from the control room. Raika decided to take a break while he waited, so he took out his Game Boy QS and started to play it. Famous then motioned to Lyne to enter the DC Chamber where a chair was standing in the middle of the room. Lyne entered the room and sat down on the chair, waiting for her physical exam. She didn’t have to wait long. Famous’s staff entered the room and started the exam. They started it off by taking Lyne’s temperature, drawing a blood sample, testing her reflexes, eyes, and ears, and checking her throat for irritation. Very similar to what a normal doctor checks up on when you go in for a checkup.

Lyne checked out fine. Nothing was unusual, physically. Famous looked over the results, pondering why she appeared well when computer viruses usually made Lyne weak and extremely sick. “Yuu, we’re going to have to check the Sister Program, all of it.”

Shocked to hear this, Yuu said, “But that would mean…..” Famous nodded. Yuu then sighed and hung his head, “Go ahead. I hope nothing shows up.”

“Initiate Sleeping Angel,” Famous spoke into his intercom.

Man, I hate this part of the exam, Lyne thought as she was guided from her chair to one of the DC units by two of Famous’s staff members and laid her down on it. Yuu started to nervously shuffle as he watched one of the staff members inject a sedative into her arm.

He does care for Lyne, Famous thought as Lyne fell victim to the drug and passed out on the DC unit. The staff members then closed the lid over the top of her. Shortly after Lyne fell asleep, Famous and Yuu heard heavy breathing coming from Lyne’s PET. Famous checked it out and saw Meg in sleep mode. That’s odd I was supposed to put Megawoman into sleep mode. I wonder… Famous thought as he placed Lyne’s PET into his PET scan station. “Check sync ratio, Kendoman,” Famous said to his navi inside his computer terminal.

“Sync Ratio 98%” Kendoman answered his NetOp.

This sync ratio shocked both scientists, “That’s higher then Nina Nautikus’s sync ratio, and she’s the best team commander in the NetAgents next to my NetSaviors which are your son and Chaud. Megawoman is losing her individuality, just like Searchman informed me last night.”

“Megawoman should still have that security program I installed intact. That’s what’s preventing a complete sync.”

“I hope you’re right Yuu. Starting Full Scan of Sister Program…….. Creating Data File… I’ll go over the data after the scan. Lyne’s free to go after the scan. I arranged a ride for her if you want to stay and review the data too.”

“Who did you get?” Yuu asked in concern for his daughter.

“I got Chaud to do it if you must know. I also have an escort for her. And that’s Raika. I was really lucky to get him to come. His commander, Colonel Kazuki, was going to send me some strange sergeant that Lyne didn’t know, and he had no net experience either.”

“You couldn’t have found any better then those two at the moment anyway. They’re her friends after all. They’re more like brothers to her. She’s in good hands. I’ll stay and go over the data with you,” Yuu said as he sighed in relief.

“Scan’s complete! Should we wake your sleeping angel?”

“No I want the drug to wear off naturally. She’s in Raika and Chaud’s care right now.”

Famous grabbed Lyne’s PET and walked out of the control room as he watched Yuu start to work on analyzing the scan data they had just acquired.

Meanwhile, in the waiting room, Chaud and Raika were waiting for the appointment to finish.

Chaud was watching Raika playing his Game Boy QS. This amused the vice president of IPC. “What are you playing Raika?” Chaud asked.

“Boktai. Can you leave me be? I’m in the middle of the last boss fight. Take that you,” Raika said as he stared at his GB QS.

Chaud then got an evil idea. He brought out his PET and composed an e-mail and put important on the top so Raika would have no choice but to check it, messing up his boss fight. When he finished it he sent it to Raika’s PET. Searchman shook his head when it arrived. He sent an e-mail back.

Chaud,
That’s not right. He’s been at that part of the game for the past three weeks. I’ll give him a call anyway. He’s always so serious when he’s stressed. I’ve been looking for a good laugh all morning. We’re on vacation after all. He needs to relax.

Chaud snickered at the e-mail. Just then Raika’s cell phone went off.

RING! RING! RING!

“Nooo! I died. Oh man. Is the e-mail important Searchman?” Raika asked as he took his cell phone off his side and answered it.

“Nevermind the e-mail,” Chaud said, laughing, “I sent it. He can delete it. Do you think Lyne will be fine?”

“Nevermind Searchman,” Raika said as he hung up his cell phone and put it away. “She’s survived worse viruses. I don’t think that Rush could really cause any harm to the sister program, so there’s no need to worry. Lyne’s a fighter,” Raika said as he put away his GB QS.

Just then Famous entered the room. Raika stood at attention when he entered the room.

“No need for formalities Lt. Raika.” Raika relaxed a little. Famous handed him Lyne’s PET.

Raika took it, “Do you have a diagnosis?” he asked, concerned.

“She’s fine physically. We’re not sure if the Sister Program has been tampered with though. Dr. Hikari is running the analysis right now as we speak.”

“Is she ready for escort?”

“No, she’s still under heavy sedation. I’ll have her brought to one of the recovery rooms,” Famous said as he started towards the exit.

“Have her brought to the one close to my office,” Chaud said in a commanding tone, “Raika will watch over her there while I handle all of my morning meetings.”

“Yes, Chaud. I’ll have my staff do that right away,” Famous said, exiting the room, “Take her to room 33a on the 25th floor.” Famous commanded his two staff members as he left to go to the bathroom. They placed Lyne on a gurney as Raika and Chaud exited the waiting room. The staff members followed behind them, taking Lyne to the room appointed by their boss, placed her on the bed in the room, and then left.

“Take good care of her. I’ll have Lan brought over shortly to hang out until my meetings are over with.”

“*Cough* Could you have him bring Searchman. I need to talk to him.”

“Why did you leave him over at the Hikaris’?”

“He was investigating something for me. A possible attempted break in on the HHN.”

“That sounds serious. I’ll have Lan brought over right now. My meetings will last to about noon hopefully. See you in a few hours,” Chaud said as he left Raika to guard Lyne in the recovery room.

Raika looked at the clock on the wall above the bed, and noticed it was about 9 a.m. Only three hours until noon. I hope you wake up before then. Lan is more bearable when you’re awake, he thought as he took a seat by the window. He looked at Lyne, who was lying motionless on the bed in the center of the room. He then looked at her PET, noticing Megawoman was also asleep. “I wonder…..” Raika said as he chose the sleep option on Lyne’s PET. Nothing happened so he tried again. Still nothing happened. Raika started to get irritated at the fact that Megawoman wasn’t waking up when he commanded her like other navis did. He gave up and then got out his GB QS and started to play Boktai again, trying to calm down. He barely got to start his battle when there was a knock on the door. Drat he’s here, and I was about to start the last Boss battle again, Raika thought as he got up from his seat and opened the door. As he predicted, Lan was standing there holding two PETs.

“Chaud sent me your message. Here’s Searchman,” Lan said as he handed Raika his PET, “How’s Lyne doing?”

“She’s fine. She’s just sleeping, and so is Meg.”

“Meg is sleeping again. Do you know how it happened?” Mega asked from his PET.

“No I don’t. I just tried to wake her.”

“I know how it happened!!” Combit piped up form Lyne's PET, “Meg fell asleep after Lyne got drugged. Similar to what happened last night. Right Mega?” Mega nodded.

“*Posh* That’s impossible. That could only happen if Lyne is synchronized with Meg already, which could be, considering what Megawoman was designed for, but even then, she’d need a Syncro Chip. Which I know for a fact she doesn’t have,” Raika said as he took his PET from Lan, “Wait, what happened last night?”

“I checked up on Lyne while Meg was scolding the guys last night,” Combit explained, “She fell asleep at her terminal. Then after I checked up on Lyne, I came back to check on Meg and she also fell asleep.”

“That’s really odd. Has Meg started to act weird too?” Raika said with a tone of concern.

“I can answer this one sir,” Searchman said, getting his NetOps attention, “My observations of Meg this past week tell me that she acts more like Lyne then Combit did when they were synched.” Lyne then stirred slightly, but fell back asleep. Lan went to her bedside and sat in the chair next to the bed.

“She’ll be up sooner then I thought. Lan can you watch over Lyne and her PET while I talk to Searchman?” Raika asked as he handed Lan Lyne’s PET.

“Sure no problem,” Lan said cheerfully as he took Lyne’s PET from Raika’s out-stretched hand.

Raika then stepped outside the door into the hallway. “Report.”

“Yes, Sir. You were right about the attempted break in. It was Bass.”

“Bass! You’re certain.” Searchman nodded, “Do you think the signal Meg broadcasted last night attracted him?”

“Not sure. I analyzed the signal and it was a part of Meg’s AntiVirus program. Maybe Meg cured Lyne last night with the signal, but how? She isn’t fully synchronized is she?”

“Don’t know. That has me both puzzled and worried. She shouldn’t be this close to cross fusing. This is one of the reasons I hate cross fusion, or mind jumping.”

“I know Sir. That has me worried too. Maybe the concert will relieve a little stress for all of us.”

“I hope you’re right Searchman. We could use some time to relax. Maybe Lyne will also relax and calm down a bit.”

“Let’s hope so. Here comes Chaud,” Searchman said, giving Raika a heads-up warning.

Raika then looked at his wrist watch. It was almost noon. “Wow, time really flew by. I wonder what we’ll do for the next six hours before the concert.”

Chaud walked up to him. “Is she awake?”

“Last time I checked she stirred a little, but she went back to sleep.”

Just then, they heard a loud burst of laughter coming from the recovery room. Raika opened the door and both he and Chaud rushed inside. Lyne had Lan pinned to the ground tickling him. The sight amused both Raika and Chaud. Raika then walked up to the two siblings. “That’s enough Lyne,” Raika said as he took Lyne off of Lan, allowing him to catch his breath. “It’s good to see you in a good mood,” Raika said to Lyne as he helped Lan up off the ground.

“I feel much better. Where are we off to next? I’m hungry!” Lyne said as she rubbed her stomach.

“Me too,” Lan piped up.

“What do you want Lyne?” Raika asked even though he knew what she wanted.

“Curry and Ice Cream,” Lyne said with a smile on her face. Lan looked at Lyne, confused.

Raika rolled his eyes. “As usual.” He then looked at Chaud.

“I’m on it,” Chaud said as he dialed a number on his cell phone, calling up his chauffer.

“Can we go here? Please!!” Lyne asked as she took a yellow coupon from one of Lan’s outer backpack pockets and handed it to Chaud.

“Worlds Finest Curry!?” Chaud said as he looked at the other guys, baffled.

Lyne nodded her head, “Lan has tons of coupons,” she said as she gestured to more coupons in the same pocket, “Please?” Lyne began to beg.

Chaud was starting to get annoyed and gave in, “The limo is downstairs. Let’s go,” he said in irritation, leaving the room. Lan exited after his friend to catch up with him. Raika and Lyne also followed them. When Lan caught up with Chaud, he noticed Chaud was fuming with anger. Lan was about to apologize when Chaud held his hand in front of him, “No need to apologize for the coupons. Your sister usually gets her way after her appointments. I didn’t think I would be tasked to be her escort this time. I wasn’t prepared.”

“She’s gone through this before?” Lan asked, surprised.

“Yes, but only when she gets a virus. Her other appointments were in the US though. This is the first time she came out clean.”

“Oh! What do you mean clean? You’re making it sound like Lyne is a program of some sort.”

“Umm…I didn’t mean to say it that way, and by clean I meant she had no cold, which is odd for her.”

“Man, I didn’t know that Lyne could be so complicated. I guess net power has its downfalls”

Chaud pressed his hand on one of his temples. “Let’s not dwell on this. I bet you’re as hungry as she is,” Chaud said as the door to his limo was opened by his chauffer and he entered it. Lan’s stomach rumbled loudly as he entered the limo. Chaud shot an angry glance at Lan as Lyne and Raika entered the Limo.

“Lan why didn’t you eat before you left home this morning?” Chaud asked.

“You said it was urgent that I get over to IPC, so I had no time to,” Lan said as the limo took off.

“GUAHHhhhhhhh!” Yuu shouted as he analyzed the data from Lyne and Meg. “Why did I even allow her to learn basic programming?” Yuu started to type again as Famous entered the control room from the bathroom to find out why his friend was shouting.

“What’s going on Yuu? Having trouble?” Famous said, concerned, as he rubbed the back of his head.

Yuu stopped typing, turned towards Famous, and took a deep breath, “Of course I’m having trouble!” he shouted again as he pointed at the computer terminal he was at, “Analysis says Lyne’s copy ability has been activated twice in the past week. The first was earlier this week around the time she met Rush, but this one,” Yuu said in a more calm tone as he gestured towards the program he was trying to decode, “Was activated yesterday morning, and it’s protected by a code I didn’t create or encode.”

“You’re not suggesting that…. Lyne!!.” Famous said in shock.

Yuu nodded, “I think she’s up to something, and doesn’t want us to find out.” he said in a serious tone, “We need to find out what it is.”

Yahut: True enough. His stomach is bottomless it seems.

Zap/Yahut: You can talk!?
Rush: Yes actually. Since we’re in a chapter preview, the usual rules don’t apply.
Zap: Speaking of which, why are we the ones doing the preview this time?
Yahut: We aren’t in that much of the story after all.
Author: That’s sort of the point. The two of you only have a small amount of exposure in the story since you decided to stay here rather than work with Mr. Wiley again.
Zap: Oh, that was very nice of you. So then, what’s the next chapter?
Author: It’s- oh wait. Here, read this. *Hands sheet to Zap and Yahut.*
Yahut: Alright. Shall we Count Zap?
Zap: On three. One, Two, Three.
Zap/Yahut: Next time on Lan and Lyne, Epsiode 8: Curry, Ice Cream, and Bass.
Rush: Speaking of which, when wiou, aou, aou- Aou?
Author: Sorry Rush. We’re starting the next chapter, so the rules apply again.
Rush: *Hangs head.* Aaouuu.

Episode 8: Curry, Ice Cream and Bass

~18 August 200X~Afternoon~

Chaud’s limo pulled up in front of a small curry shop next to the ice cream parlor in downtown ElecTown. Lyne remembered what had happened to the Ice Cream Parlor last month. She shuddered at the thought as her escorts got out of the limo. She followed in suit as they entered the curry restaurant. Inside the curry restaurant, it was somewhat cramped. Along one of the walls were about 5 four person booths. Across from the booths was a bar with about ten barstools. There was maybe 1-and-a-half feet of space between the stools and the booths. Lyne looked at the bar and noticed a peculiar sight. Rush was sitting in one of the barstools, tapping a spoon on the counter.

“Rush eats here too?” she asked Lan, surprised, “I didn’t think viruses could do that.”

“Rush is a special virus,” Lan said as Rush tapped the spoon he was holding on the counter again, “Just like you’re special, plus he brings me his extra coupons.”

“Aou, Aou!!” Rush barked impatiently.

“Just a minute. Your curry is coming,” a man behind the counter answered as he walked over with a hot plate of curry, placing it in front of Rush. Lyne looked at him, noticing his attire was really odd for a chef. He had spiky blonde hair, wore a suit, and had headphones on, or at least what looked like headphones. She then noticed him look at her.

“Well Hello! Welcome to World Famous Curry! Please have a seat. I’ll be with your party shortly,” the man said as he grabbed some menus. Lan sat down at one of the booths, suggesting to the rest where to sit. Raika gestured Lyne to sit opposite her brother in the same booth. Lyne complied, sliding down the bench and leaving just enough room for Raika to sit. Raika and Chaud sat down at the same time. When they were all seated, the man walked up to their table and handed out the menus.

“What will it be?” he said as he took out an order pad and a pencil.

“The usual!” Lan said excitedly. Lyne just looked at her menu, trying to make her decision.

“I’ll have the mild chicken curry with extra pickled ginger,” Chaud said as he put his menu down. The man wrote the current orders down.

“I’ll have the same,” Raika said putting his menu down. He then looked at Lyne, who was still deciding.

She then lowered her menu. “Um.. I think I’ll have the medium Indian curry with extra pickled ginger,” all of her escorts looked at Lyne, surprised that she would order something that hot.

“OK. We have one order of mild mandarin curry; two orders of mild chicken curry extra pickled ginger, and one order of medium Indian curry extra pickled ginger. Anything to drink?”

“Water!” they all said in unison.

“And one cup of coffee,” Raika said. The man wrote the drink orders down and headed back to the kitchen. He ripped the order had had just filled out off his pad and placed it on metal turnstile.

“Yahut, we have company! Lan and Chaud are here.”

"They’re always frequent customers Zap. I’ll see them before they leave,” Yahut said as he washed dishes while their hired cook handled the group’s order.

“Plus, Lt. Raika and someone else is with them,” Zap said anxiously, grabbing his friend and dragging him towards the area behind the counter. Zap pointed at Lan’s table for Yahut to look.

“Who am I supposed to be looking at?” Yahut questioned to Zap.

“The girl! Do you recognize her?” Zap asked in a low tone.

Yahut looked at the girl sitting with Lan, Chaud, and Raika. He couldn’t believe his eyes, “That couldn’t be Lyne. She looks more dignified. Not the angry little girl we saw terrorize the net a long time ago,” Yahut said as he dried his wet hands on his apron, “I think we can afford a break,” he said as he then exited from behind the counter. Zap followed behind him, carrying two chairs. Lyne watched them as they did so. She felt like she knew them from somewhere before.

“Good to see you grace our humble restaurant again Lan, Chaud, and company,” Yahut bowed at their table.

“Nice to see you too, Yahut, Count Zap. How’s it been?” Lan said cheerfully. Lyne now recognized their names and faces. They were from World 3. She tried to hide behind Raika, which didn’t work well in a booth. Giving up on that, she did the next best thing. She hid under the table. Everyone looked shocked at her behavior.

“Wow! I didn’t expect her to remember us,” Zap said as he pulled up a chair and sat in it. They all could barely hear Lyne repeating ‘World 3’ over and over from her hiding place.

“Why is she doing that?” Lan asked, confused, “World 3 has been disbanded for over a year now.”

“Oh! She destroyed the first computer network that Mr. Wily created,” Yahut said as he also sat down, “I believe shortly after the first Pharaohman incident. She was quite the little terror back then.”

Lyne poked her head out from under the table. “It wasn’t my fault,” Lyne said, defending herself, “I had no control back then” She got back out from underneath the table and sat in her seat. “Is it true that World 3 is disbanded?” Lyne asked in a soft, shy tone.

“Of course Lyne. We went our separate ways a year ago. Yahut and I run this curry restaurant, and both Maddy and Mr. Match work for Cronos Chip Corporation. It's just outside the Dentech area near Mt. Fuji National Park. Lovely area.”

“How are Maddy and Mr. Match doing anyway?” Lan asked.

“They came in about two weeks ago. I’d say they’re doing fine. Maddy is a secretary for the president of the company, and Mr. Match is head of security over at CCC.”

“That’s pretty cool,” Lan said cheerfully. Just then, a bell rang from the back.

“We’ll leave you to eat and enjoy your curry,” Yahut said as he got up from his chair, grabbed their orders, and served it to the group. Zap gathered up the chairs and both owners of the restaurant left them to eat.

“Maybe we shouldn’t have come here,” Lyne said as she dug into her curry.

“Why?” Lan asked, “Is it because of Yahut and Count Zap? They’re harmless,” Lan said while somehow making half of his curry disappear.

“It’s not them. Even though Yahut is a little creepy. It’s…….. that…….. Oh, I don’t want to talk about it.”

“They brought up a terrible memory didn’t they?” Chaud asked in a mater-of-fact tone, taking a break from his curry.

Lyne blushed angrily at Chaud, “I said….”

“I know Lyne. “I don’t want to talk about it.” If you want to know, Nebula is also down. Lan, Rakia, and I took care of them, and Zodiac hasn’t reactivated since the incident. So relax and finish your curry,” Chaud said.

“Speaking of which,” Lan said, sitting in front of a mysteriously empty bowl, “Are you going to eat that?” He motioned to the bowl that Chaud hadn’t yet started eating.

“Yes, of course,” he responded, ladling up some of the food in his spoon to start eating.

“Oh,” Lan said, looking disappointed. He turned to his sister. “What about-?”

Lyne quickly drew her bowl in to protect it and started eating.

“*Sigh* Count Zap?” Lan called out, “Could I get a second bowl please?”

Raika had been eating his curry during the whole conversation to keep his mouth shut. Being Lyne’s escort meant to keep an eye on her; not irritate her like Chaud was. I have a feeling Chaud will get reamed for that later. Lyne said not to talk about it any more. Its bad enough he got Lan involved with escorting Lyne. Lan knows nothing, and he’s irritating, Raika thought as he finished his curry.

“Raika you can relax!” Lyne said, shocked, “You’re not at work. Try to enjoy your food.” Raika now realized how much stress he was under. He only ate like that when he was in basic military training.

“Huh? I ate faster than he did,” Lan said, “Why didn’t you say anything to me?”

“Because nobody’s surprised by how fast you eat Lan,” Chaud answered calmly for Lyne.

“I’m sorry Lyne. Maybe another cup of coffee is in order,” Raika apologized as he got up and sat at one of the barstools, taking his empty cup up for a refill. Rush left his bar stool and took Raika’s seat at the table. Lyne pushed Rush out of the seat, using her bag so she wouldn’t touch him.

“I had an appointment today because of you. I don’t want another one,” Lyne said angrily as Rush whined, sitting on the floor.

“Lyne, it’s alright. He can’t make you sick any more,” Meg piped up from her PET. “I used AntiVirus when we were synched last night,” Rush jumped into Lyne’s lap at hearing this, forcing Lyne to touch him.

Searchman was right. Meg did use her AntiVirus program to cure Lyne. Amazing, Raika thought as he drank his coffee, watching Lyne and Rush interacting.

Lyne started to scratch Rush behind the ears. This is cool. I’m petting Rush and my copy ability didn’t activate. This is great. Thank you Meg.

You’re welcome. I didn’t think it would work, Meg thought back as she smiled at her good job, Glad you’re happy.

“I’m ready for ice cream,” Lyne said as she smiled at Raika with her plate half empty.

“Lyne finish your curry first. Please,” Raika commanded politely. Lyne had a pout on her face as she took Rush off of her lap, and started to finish her curry. Lan’s second helping showed up around then and he, Lyne, and Chaud managed to finish at about the same time. She then looked over at Raika as she pushed her empty plate away from her.

“Good. Now you can have ice cream,” Raika said as he started to leave the curry restaurant. Lyne got out of her booth seat and stretched. She then grabbed Rush’s hand and walked to join Raika as Chaud paid for the bill.

“Lan, you can pay me later for that second bowl,” Chaud said as he left the register.

“We’re on NetSavior business. Can’t you just get Mr. Famous to compensate you?” Lan replied.

“You’ve used up your food budget already. I’m not about to let you use mine too.”

“*Sigh* All right. See you guys later,” Lan said to Yahut and Zap as the group left the restaurant for the ice cream parlor next door.

~Parking Garage Roof in ElecTown Square~

Bass watched with his little servbot at his side. He stood on this very same roof over a month ago, watching the same girl.

“She’s well guarded boss. The guy with the light blue hair is armed,” the bot said.

An angry mark appeared on the forehead of Bass’s robot body. “Don’t tell me things I already know,” he said as he punched the servbot in the head. The servbot danced around, confused because Bass had damaged its motor functions. “There I go again. That’s the tenth one this week. Good help is so hard to find these days,” Bass said as he kicked the broken bot, If I was able to get onto the HHN last night, I would’ve had a straight shot at Lyne’s navi and used it to take Lyne’s power. But now I’m forced to do it the hard way. I need a good place to set up an ambush. Bass placed his hand on his chin. I know! They’ll have to return to the Hikari Home sometime, so the ACDC Park should be fine. I’ll just have to be patient. I’m going to get ready for the ambush, Bass thought as he got off the roof of the parking garage, and walked to the subway tunnel to keep his presence from looking suspicious.

Back in the Ice Cream Parlor, Lyne looked up from her ice cream, spooked by something.

“Lyne, what’s wrong?” Lan asked concerned. Lyne looked that way once before, but it was over a month ago.

Lyne shook off the feeling, “Um… Nothing. It’s gone,” Lyne sighed in relief. Lan also sighed, and then started eat his ice cream again. Lyne did the same. They were done at about 4 PM.

“Lets go back to the house. I need to get the tickets,” Lyne said as she turned in her stool, getting ready to exit the parlor.

“What?” Lan exclaimed, “Why didn’t you bring them with you?”

“I expected to stay home all day until the concert,” Lyne said as she looked at Raika, “But someone’s navi was a snitch and I ended up going to an appointment. *humph*,” Lyne said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“Your navi told us first out of concern for your health,” Raika said as he shook his finger back and forth at Lyne.

“I’ve already forgiven Meg. I still won’t forgive you or Searchman until….. You know,” Lyne said as she pointed at Raika’s PET, “Give me!” Lyne said in a tone of anger. Lan and Chaud decided to hide in one of the booths behind Lyne to watch what she was going to do. Raika looked down at Searchman horrified.

“I suggest you get it over with. Letting Lyne fume isn’t a very good idea,” Searchman said to Raika, reminding him who he was escorting. Raika hung his head, knowing that Searchman was right, and surrendered his PET to Lyne.

Go easy on him. He’s armed Lyne, Searchman thought to Lyne as she held his PET.

I know. My hand still hurts from this morning. I’m just doing this to soften him up a little, she thought back, Are you synced? Humm……. Yep! Here it goes. Lyne moved her finger around Searchman’s abdominal area.

You know you’re not fair Lyne, Searchman thought as he buckled over in laughter. Raika followed right after his navi, trying to stay on his feet, but unable to remain stable as Lyne used her 'magic touch'. Lan and Chaud chuckled at the sight of the Sharo Officer rolling from side to side on the floor of the Ice Cream Parlor.

Lyne stopped a few minutes later, handing Raika back his PET. “I forgive you. Now let’s go home. I need to get those tickets if we’re going to be at the concert at 7:00,” Lyne said as she got off her barstool and as Lan finished a note.

“Rush, I want you to deliver this to Mayl for me please,” Lan said as he handed the note to the cyber dog. Rush took the paper, made one of his little black holes, and disappeared through it. Then Lyne and her escorts left the Ice Cream Parlor after paying for their ice cream. They got into Chaud’s limo and went back to the Hikaris’ home.

~ACDC Park~

Bass sat on one of the benches, waiting for the limo to arrive. He then noticed it as it rounded the corner. He chuckled as he stood up, Good. I’ll rip the roof off of the limo, grab Lyne, and disappear, he thought to himself and started to focus on the limo that was coming closer to him. “Charge!!” he shouted as he sprang towards the limo, only to be stopped short by the side of a passing bus. He fell backwards onto the sidewalk with a loud metallic bang.

Inside the limo Lyne looked out the back window of the to investigate the sound and noticed someone lying on the sidewalk. She shrugged her shoulders, returning her attention to the chip combo she was fiddling with in her hand.

“Oww… Hey! Who put that there?” Bass said, fuming with anger and getting back up from the sidewalk. He then looked around quickly, Nooooo!! The limo’s disappeared!! This sucks. Stupid vehicles made by stupid humans!! Bass thought as he kicked a soda can lying on the ground at the bus. It stuck into the back bumper of the bus. Bass nodded in approval of his evil deed (no mouth on this robotic shell). I’ll just have to try harder. Make sure she can’t get away. I’ll have to make a Dimensional Area; her flesh can’t pass through it. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do. Now I have to find that blasted limo, Bass thought as he looked around for anyone and then teleported to the top of the statue in the middle of the ACDC Park, “Where is it?” he said as he scanned the area for the limo. He then chuckled, There it is!! he thought excitedly, noticing the limo had stopped.

Lyne exited the limo and entered her home to get the tickets. When she returned, she noticed the same man she saw earlier on top of the statue in ACDC Park. That guy must be crazy! Lyne thought as she entered the limo again. It then took off. Chaud then received an important phone call and made his half of the limo private by bringing up his conference window, which separated the back seat in half.

“Hey!!” Bass complained as he was about to teleport over to the limo. He then decided to stay where he was until the limo came close enough to the park. There was no traffic, so getting the limo was going to be a piece of cake. Plus there was nobody in the park, even though he really wanted to terrorize more then just the people in the limo. As the limo started to pass by the park, Bass locked his robot body joints so it could stand on its own. He then activated the DA generator inside his body. The DA he created engulfed the park and the section of the road that the limo occupied.

Lyne was now curious who that guy was. She had been feeling the same weird feeling she’d had at the Ice Cream Parlor ever since they passed the park the first time.

“Lan, who is that?” Lyne asked as she pointed out the window. Lan looked out the window and noticed the figure she was pointing at. “I’ve seen him before. I think I saw him right before what had happened last month.”

Lan gulped and said, “Lyne, that’s Bass!”

Lyne seemed to hold her breath when she noticed Bass’s body start to glow as it generated a Dimensional Area. “I don’t like this.”

Bass grinned evilly as he jacked out of his robot body. He then summoned Protoman, who appeared below him. “Follow my command!! Attack the limo and make it stop moving. Then I want you to being the girl to me. Go!!”

Protoman activated his sword arm and charged at the limo. He cut through the hood, splitting the limo from its engine. He then proceeded to shove the two pieces apart to keep the limo from exploding. As the two pieces slid apart, the engine block hit one of the walls of the DA and exploded. He then returned his attention to the cab of the limo, where Lyne and her escorts were trapped inside.

Inside the wrecked limo was mass confusion. Raika was ramming against the glass pane that separated Chaud from them. It was no use. “Are you sure that this glass is bullet proof?” Raika called through the glass.

“Yes, I’m sure. I don’t want Lyne or Lan hurt if you shot that at the glass. Get them out of here, then worry about me. That’s an order,” came Chaud’s answer

“Yes sir.” Raika knew he had to get them all out of there. The engine may have been separated from the rest of the car, but they were sitting ducks where they were. Raika checked the door to see if it wasn’t locked, but it was. The separation of the engine block caused an electrical short throughout the limo, locking everyone inside. The chauffer had managed to get out as the engine block was getting cut off.

I’m going to have to do this. It’s the only way out, Raika thought as he brought out his gun. Lyne screamed as he aimed and fired it at the lock, blowing it off. Raika then kicked the door open. “Lan, take Lyne and hide. I’ll try to free Chaud. Hurry!” Raika said as he pushed them out the broken door. Protoman noticed the two exiting the limo and started to follow them.

Stop!!! a voice shouted to him inside his head, Save Chaud!!!

Protoman stopped his pursuit of the Hikaris, No!!

Save Chaud!!!!

He’s no concern of mine. The brat is.

He is too and you know it! SAVE CHAUD NOW!!!!!!!!! the voice boomed loudly in Protoman’s head, finally able to override Bass’s instruction, at least temporarily. Protoman jumped over the limo, sliced open the door, and started to pry it open. Raika was shocked to see this and went over to help pry open the door. Once the door was removed, Protoman disappeared from sight. Raika grabbed Chaud and ran away from the rest of the limo as the gas, which has been leaking from the hole left behind by the engine compartment, reached the burning engine and caught fire. The fire quickly raced along the trail of gas on the ground and reached the fuel tank, which exploded. The concussion of the blast knocked down Raika and Chaud, but left them otherwise unharmed. Just as the two caught their breath and started getting up they heard a scream. They turned to see Lan trying to pull Lyne away form Protoman’s grip.

Protoman activated his sword again and pointed it at Lan. “Back off! Or I’ll use this on you in front of her.” Lan backed out of striking distance, but still didn’t let go. Protoman then spun Lyne into a better holding position, tugging her closer and breaking Lan’s grip on his sister. He then brought his hand across her chest and dragged her back away from Lan.

“Let go of her Protoman, or I’ll….”

“You’ll what? Cross Fuse?” Protoman said as he brought his sword closer to Lyne’s face, “I don’t think so. Not if you want your sister unharmed.”

Lan paused his pursuit when he saw the fear in Lyne’s eyes as she looked at Protoman’s cyber sword.

Lyne don’t be afraid. I need your help, a familiar voice thought to her.

Lyne recognized it immediately. Protoman!! Lyne thought with noticeable shock on her face, “Let me go!” she said as she struggled in Protoman’s grip.

“Hold still you brat,” Protoman said as he tightened his grip on her.

No he’s not talking to you. He’s DS. I’m GS. Lyne stopped struggling and listened. I need to be vaccinated, and only you can do it.

Me? I’m not that skilled of a programmer. Are you sure only I can do it?

If you don’t, Bass will have your power for sure, and you don’t want that. You’ll have to free yourself from DS’s grip and then fight him with your copy ability.

But, No! You’re synchronized with DS. I couldn’t… Chaud would never forgive me. Lyne thought as a tear streaked down her face.

Chaud will understand. You owe this to Chaud, Meg and me. I can withstand a little pain. Lyne wanted to break down and cry, but she knew that Protoman’s GS was right. She owed this to him. Meg had confessed to her that she met Protoman on her birthday, and she just witnessed him save Chaud’s life.

I’ll do it. Be prepared GS this isn’t going to be pretty, Lyne thought as she fiddled with the tactics chip she held in her right hand.

I know. Lyne returned her attention to Lan’s confrontation with Protoman’s DS.

“Back off Kid! I’m warning you,” Protoman DS said to Lan as held Lyne even closer to his chest.

“Let her Go!” Lan said as he charged at Protoman DS.

“Lan stop!” Lyne commanded. Lan paused in mid charge, confused at his sisters request. “Let the man with the pointy sword have his way.”

“But Lyne….” Lan complained.

“I’ll handle this. Trust me,” Lyne said in a calm, reassuring tone to calm her brother down and had a relaxed face.

“As if, brat. You can’t slip out of my grip.”

“That’s where you’d be wrong DS,” Lyne said as she elbowed Protoman DS in the chest, forcing him to let go of her, “Dead wrong.”

Lan, Raika, and Chaud’s jaws dropped when they saw what Lyne had done to Protoman. Lyne then stood in front of Protoman in a fighting pose as he recovered from the blow she dealt.

“Lyne stop please! Your father and Mr. Famous will have my hide as a wall mount,” Raika said in protest to Lyne’s action.

Lyne looked at Raika, “I got asked to do this by an old friend. I owe it to him and his NetOp.” Lyne winked at Chaud.

Chaud’s eyes brightened, His GS is intact. “Go for it Lyne.”

See Lyne. He understands, GS thought to Lyne.

“Chaud, don’t egg her on,” Raika scolded him as he cheered her on.

“So he actually broke through my lock again. Very clever, but you won’t be able to save him. I’m the one in control,” Protoman DS said as he charged at Lyne.

“Copy! Tactics!” Lyne shouted as she slid the chip combo across the palm of her hand.

“What!?” DS stopped in mid stride, confused by Lyne’s action. Lyne then used the program she copied, sending him flying backwards.

OK that really hurt. Maybe not that much pain, Lyne, GS thought as he also felt the blow.

The guys winced as they watched the fight. “Not possible,” Raika breathed out. Chaud and Lan felt as much wonder as Raika, but could only react by staring.

Bass was standing in the middle of the park, waiting for Protoman’s return, What’s taking him so long? he thought as he looked towards where the limo was smoldering, and noticed Protoman was in a fight with his target. This might be more difficult then I thought. I’ll have to even the odds in my favor. “Dark Aura Program Activate,” Bass said as he threw a chip program at Protoman DS. DS started to emanate a dark, purplish-black aura around his entire body. Lyne backed away slightly as she noticed who activated the program on Protoman DS.

“Let’s see you beat me up now brat,” Protoman DS said as he charged and activated his VarSword chip program. Lyne avoided his attack by stepping off to the side and elbowed Protoman DS in the back, knocking him face first into the ground.

Lyne felt a burning sensation as she did so. Can’t touch him for long. That aura burns. If I’m not careful I could get severely burned, Lyne thought as she rubbed her elbow.

Protoman DS got back up, “Is that all you got? I thought you’d do better, considering Bass wants your NetPower. I’ll be nice and ask you to surrender, or you can watch your friends die one by one. The first one to go will be your brother.” Protoman DS pointed his VarSword at Lan and the others.

Lyne took her bag off her shoulder and took out her PET. She then closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Meg I’m going to try that Syncro Program we worked on yesterday.

I’m ready Lyne. Let’s fight this guy together.

Protoman DS tapped his foot, “Come on I don’t have all day. Bass is starting to get irritated, and so am I,” he said in an impatient tone.

Lyne stood in front of him and gave him a cold stare, “This fight isn’t over yet.” Lyne held her PET out in front of her, “Syncro Program activate!” Lyne called out.

“Cross Fusion!!” Lyne and Meg said in unison.

“Lyne you can’t do that with out a Synch-” Lan started to say in shock, but stopped when he saw a bright light engulf Lyne.

I’m a dead man! Raika thought as he watched.

I’m a deleted net navi! Searchman thought.

OOoooo!! This is interesting! Bass thought as he watched. When the light dissipated Lyne had taken on the appearance of Meg. The exact appearance. The armor showed no differences and even the hair and eye color were the same. This greatly confused Lan and Chaud, who were most familiar with the cross-fused state and knew that a change in her appearance should have happened. It took a moment for him to realize that something was odd about this cross-fusion, but Raika eventually noted it and felt twice as worried then. Knowing that she’d already been a handful, Protoman DS got really nervous and started to swing his sword around crazily and desperately at Lyne. She dodged all of his strikes. He struck downward as hard as he could with an over-the-head stroke. Lyne caught the VarSword with her hands.

“Let GO!” Protoman DS commanded Lyne.

“OK!” Lyne brought her knee up to the sword and broke it. She then extended her foot and kicked Protoman DS in the face, knocking him back and breaking his visor. Unfortunately for the corrupted navi, Lyne’s strike drove off his dark aura. Protoman DS started to back up from Lyne, now definitely afraid. Lyne took a step towards him, discarding the part of the sword that she still held. Protoman DS couldn’t handle the sight of his broken weapon and turned to run away, only to be stopped short by his hair being grabbed by Lyne.

“I’m not finished with you yet DS. Program Freeze, activate.” Protoman DS was frozen in place, “I’m going to vaccinate you. If you don’t mind.” Lyne smiled as she got in front of Protoman DS’s face and put him into a kneeling position. His eyes gave her an angry look. “Don’t be that way. It’s for your own good. Protoman file directory.” A file list appeared off the side of Protoman’s face. Lyne started to look it over.

You had this coming. Ha-Ha, GS thought to his other self.

Shut up!! DS thought back angrily.

“What is Lyne doing?” Chaud said, concerned for his navi as he watched Lyne.

“I think she’s going to vaccinate him or do a system over-haul,” Raika said, “I’ve never seen her do it this way before. And she didn’t even do a complete Cross Fusion,” he added in a quieter voice.

“What do you mean by that?” Chaud asked, surprised, “She Cross Fused. And even without a chip.” Lan nodded in agreement.

“I know. Well, anyway, let’s leave her be and fix Protoman.” Raika suggested as they watched her.

“Who installed this?!” Lyne shouted, “No wonder you got hacked by that simpleton Bass. This AntiVirus program is outdated!” Chaud blushed out of embarrassment.

“Update…. Garbage…. Garbage….. Ughhh……. Remove all Bass Command Protocol Data. You thought you could have him back, didn’t you? You can’t out-hack me. You can’t even program properly. What, more garbage files?…. Oooooo” Lyne said as she paused for a moment, “Umm… Guys, what’s this?” Lyne asked as she beckoned them to come see what she had found. When they got there, Lyne pointed at a small purple object lodged into the side of Protoman’s neck.

They eyed it closely, “That’s a Dark Chip Lyne,” Lan said, recognizing the chip. Lyne placed her hand on Protoman’s shoulder.

So this is why you’re so grumpy.

Ha, Ha Lyne, really funny. Just remove the pain in the neck GS thought to Lyne sarcastically.

Hey!! DS complained as Lyne removed the dark chip and threw it into the air. She then activated her Megbuster, destroying the chip.

Lyne was amazed at the good job she had done. She deactivated the Megbuster and rubbed her right arm. This feels odd, but also natural. I wonder if the guys feel the same way when they Cross Fuse. Lyne then held her hand over Protoman’s face. She then looked at Chaud, “All that’s left is to reboot his system and he’ll be fine. Reboot!” Lyne commanded Protoman and his eyes went dim. Text moved quickly along the file screen that Lyne had brought up, moving faster than the eyes could follow. Suddenly, /Reboot//Protoman.EXE/ flashed on the screen, then vanished along with the screen. Protoman’s body pixilated in a wave from his feet up to his head, then reformed from the head down and the reboot was complete, and his vizor repaired. “Just remember to keep up on his updates.”

Chaud nodded in agreement, “Thank you, Lyne. I will. This will never happen again,” Chaud said as he watched his navi get up stiffly from the kneeling position that Lyne had put him in. Chaud then hugged him, “Good to have you back Protoman.”

Protoman stretched, “Owww... Good to be back, Chaud. You can let go now.”

Chaud let go of Protoman, embarrassed that he’d shown how he felt so openly in front of Raika and Lan. Lyne giggled at the look Chaud had on his face.

“How dare you take what I rightfully stole,” A voice came from behind Lyne. The guys noticed who it was and backed away from him. Lyne turned to face her challenger.

“You could have had kept him if your programming skills weren’t so crappy and if your hacks weren’t so easy to detect. I swear, your father taught you better.” Lyne said as she crossed her arms against her chest.

“You have no right to talk to me that way human. And what would you know about my father? He betrayed me. Now I’ll have that NetPower or I’ll get really nasty.”

“I wouldn’t attack if I were you. I outnumber you.”

Bass smirked, “Oh really? How do you out number me?” he said as he crossed his arms across the front of his cloak.

“Like this. Backup Program, activate!” Lyne said as she transmitted a signal to the other PETs. They glowed in response and the guys looked at their PETs, confused as to what Lyne had just done to them.

“*Posh* That didn’t do any thing,” Bass said as he came closer.

“Stay back. I warn you,” Bass ignored her and came closer, “One,” Lyne called out as Protoman stood by her right side.

“He’s nothing.” Bass glared at Lyne as he came closer.

“Two!” Lyne said in a tone of warning as Mega logged out of his PET and appeared by her on the other side. Lan looked at his navi, shocked.

“He doesn’t scare me either.” Bass came even closer. He was about a foot away from Lyne now.

“Three!!” Lyne shouted as a shot sounded off and hit the ground next to Bass’s feet. Shocked, he stopped. She has control over all three navis, and their power has increased. This might not be a good idea. He took one step back.

“That was a warning shot. Next time he won’t miss. Back off,” Lyne said as she had Mega and Protoman point their weapons at Bass. Bass then teleported away from Lyne and appeared a good distance off, floating in mid air.

Protoman shook his head, “He’s determined this time Lyne. Usually nothing stops him when he’s determined to get it. I should know; the last two months weren’t fun.” He then looked at Lyne who had her arms still crossed, “And he’ll wait too.”

“Let him. I can wait too.”

Lan waked up to Lyne and grabbed her shoulders, getting her attention, “Lyne, the Syncro Program uses your energy not your navi’s. You couldn’t last as long as Bass can wait.”

“Then I’ll defuse.” Lyne said as she attempted to separate from Meg’s programming, but it wasn’t working. “Why can’t I defuse….?!” Lyne wondered aloud, her voice suddenly weakening as she passed out. Protoman caught her as she collapsed.

“You know, that was a really good question,” he said as he laid Lyne down on the ground in Mega’s Lap and stood back up.

Chaud was angered by what had just happened, “Raika!! What’s going on with Lyne? I know you were requested by Mr. Famous to come here.”

“Lyne has an Alpha Program inside of her. You guys would know it as a Pharaohman Program,” Raika said as he gestured at Lyne. Lan and Chaud nodded in understanding. “She wasn’t supposed to Cross Fuse. Not yet anyway. Mainly because Meg is a copy of Lyne’s Alpha Program, but has a personality.” Raika then placed his hand on his chin, “What has me puzzled is why she didn’t fully Cross-Fuse. She’d look more menacing and beautiful. Trust me; Searchman and I have seen it before. We were asked to make sure that this didn’t happen.”

“And what a great job you did,” Chaud said sarcastically.

“Can you two stop fighting? We should be more concerned for Lyne’s sake,” Lan said, stopping their argument.

Good she’s out cold, and no navis to stop me. Bass thought as he teleported from where he was, towards Lyne.

Alpha Program Activate. Switch, a silent command went off inside of Meg.

He only got a few feet away from her when she sat up again. He then teleported back to where he was, hissing at who he thought was Lyne.

“*Whew* That was close. What made him go away this time?”

“Don’t know. Lyne’s Backup program went down for a moment and came back up when he teleported close to her,” Protoman said as he shrugged his shoulders and looked at Lyne, “Are you alright Lyne?”

She shook her head, “Lyne?! No I’m Meg,” Megawoman said as she looked around, “Where’s Lyne?”

Lan, Chaud, Protoman, and Megaman looked at each other, then at Meg, and then at Raika.

“Don’t look at me I don’t know what happened. Mr. Famous didn’t go into great detail how the cross-fusion process affects Lyne and Meg,” Raika said as he waved his hands in front of him. Since everything seamed to have calmed down, Searchman walked up to the group from where Lyne had hidden him in the park. He looked at Meg and then shook his head at Raika.

“What’s that for?” Raika said in an angry tone to his navi.

Searchman placed his hand on his NetOp’s shoulder. “You do realize how much of a reaming we’re going to get for not doing our job?”

Raika hung his head, “Yes.” He brought his head back up quickly, pointing at his navi, “And don’t you start. We need to figure out what happened to Lyne,” he said as he crossed his arms. He then kneeled in front of Meg, “Meg can you sense Lyne?”

Meg shook her head as her PET all of a sudden appeared in her hand. Meg looked at it, confused, moving it around in her hands, “What is this?”

“It’s your PET Meg,” Raika said as he noticed it too.

“Oh…” she said as she continued to look at it. So this is where I live. It’s so small. How do I fit in there? Let alone get back inside. Just then, the screen came on. A small figure was on the screen, asleep, or at least appeared to be. She then recognized who was on her screen, “Um… How come Lyne is in my PET?”

“What?!” The guys all said in unison as they looked at Meg’s PET.

Meanwhile, Bass was listening in from where he was floating. Perfect!! “Jack in!” Bass shouted loud enough for the others to hear him as he jacked into Meg’s PET.

Oh, so that’s how you get inside. “Get out of there you demon. This is my PET!” Meg said in irritation.

Bass then grabbed Lyne, ignoring Meg’s shout. He turned to face Meg with an evil grin on his face, “As you wish.” He then jacked out of Meg’s PET, floating in the air, holding onto Lyne, who hung limply from his left arm, “*Phuttt*”Bass stuck his tongue out at the group and pulled down on his lower eyelid with his free hand.

“That’s so immature!” Meg said angrily as she watched him floating away. Lyne’s bag then dropped off her shoulder to the ground. Meg walked over to it, picked it up, instinctively opened it, and found Lyne’s Chip Folder. She grabbed five chips; the Angel Wings, Atom Blade, Cyber Sword, Wide Sword, and Long Sword Battle Chips.

“I’m going to stop Bass. I have too. It’s my primary programming to protect Lyne,” Meg said as she looked at her PET. “Combit, I need you to distract Bass while I Style Change.”

Combit nodded, “All Right! Some Action!” she said in excitement.

Meg then pointed her PET towards Bass, “Combit, Jack in!!” Combit came out of Meg’s PET and sped towards Bass at blinding speed, ramming into the back of his helmet. This got his attention, causing him to teleport around to avoid Combit. The guys watched the Byte in shock. She seemed to know what she was doing, even though she no longer had a NetBattling program.

“Angel Wings Battle Chip in, Sacrifice!!” Meg said as she placed the first chip into her PET. The sacrificed chip blanked out and a pulse of energy moved along Meg’s arm from the PET and then into her icon. “NetAngel Style Change Activate.” Meg then was engulfed in a bright light. A lot brighter than when she Cross-Fused with Lyne. The guys covered their eyes to protect them from the blinding light.

When the light dissipated, Meg had on white armor and a semi-short tunic that didn’t quite reach her knees. She had gold boots, gloves, and crests on her helmet. The middle section of her helmet was silver, and so were her side stripes and the edge of her tunic. Her gems all changed to amethyst purple instead of their usual ruby red color, but still had their metalic navy blue outer rings. She also had huge, angel-like, light-purple wings formed from shimmering energy that spread out from gold wing-frames. Her hair and eyes also changed color, now matching Lyne’s.

“Um…” Searchman muttered as he nervously tapped Raika on the shoulder.

“I know!” Raika said as he watched Meg ready her PET again.

“Program Advance!! Atom Blade, Cyber Sword, Wide Sword, and Long Sword Battle Chips in Download. Angel Sword!!” Meg said as she placed the chips into her PET. Her PET transformed into a long and moderately broad sword. She did a few practice slashes before she lowered it, holding it in one hand. Chaud and Protoman looked at the sword with starry eyes.

Raika and Searchman thought the same thing, No way!!

“Protoman, Mega! Let’s go get Lyne back,” Meg commanded them as she took off after Bass, who was almost to his robot body and getting ready to jack out of the DA. They followed her. Meg appeared in front of Bass before he could attempt a jack out. As she did so, she started to feel weird, as if she was being controlled by someone else and she knew it wasn’t Lyne. It felt like an older, ancient presence. Meg shuddered as she fought against the feeling.

It won’t work, hmm… my child. I have control over you. I always have when Lyne was in danger. Now be a good navi and let me handle Bass, the ancient voice said to her.

“What’s wrong? Trying to protect your NetOp and you shake in my presence. Get out of my way,” Bass said as he tried to shove Meg out of the way, but she didn’t budge. She looked up at Bass and her eyes glowed bright red.

Bass backed off as he removed his hand from where he had touched Meg, Demon Energy!! he thought in shock.

“Battle Cell Program Activate,” Meg’s voice commanded in an unfamiliar tone. This greatly confused Meg as she, her taken over body, Lyne and one really shocked, confused Bass were surrounded by a sphere of energy. Bass had greatly became angered by what had just happened and tried to teleport with his prize outside the trap his mysterious, demonic attacker had set up, but it was no use.

“What’s going on up there? Lyne’s Backup Program went offline,” Mega asked Protoman as he noticed the energy bubble activate. “Can you check it out Protoman?”

Protoman shook his head, “Don’t know what’s going on. I can’t until my scanners are recalibrated. Have Searchman scan the energy bubble.”

“I’m already on it.” Searchman vid linked to them.

“That will be no use, heh, heh… Bass. You fell for my bait, and now… now I have you where I want you. Now I’ll finish the program you activated,” possessed Meg said as she pointed the Angel Sword at Bass.

You Sicko! Using Lyne as bait! Meg thought angrily.

Bass stopped his attempts to get away and looked at the sword, attracted by it’s power. He recognized it right away, Excalibur!! Can’t be!! Only…. Bass thought as he held his free right hand over his icon.

“Alpha could wield it,” possessed Meg said, finishing his thought, “Only half correct. Navis I control can also wield this sword. I am… glad… you remember it,” Alpha said as he ran Meg’s finger across the flat part if the blade.

“Alpha! You can’t still be alive. I saw you destroyed by this brat’s brother and his navi. Then I took advantage of your leftover bug data by absorbing it into my own program.”

Alpha!! No. Meg fight him, Lyne thought as she stirred in Bass’s grip, trying to wake up.

I… I can’t. I’m sorry Lyne, Meg thought back.

“Alpha, have you no shame? You sound funny as a woman. I vividly remember you being straight,” Bass said with a smirk as he shrugged his shoulders and turned away from Alpha.

“Oh look. Bass got jokes. Ha, Ha! I gave this girl some of my NetPower. I gave it to her when the SciLab humans trapped me in that cyber tomb of theirs. They thought disguising a human as a navi would lure me in.”

Bass turned back towards Alpha and lowered his eyelids a little, “I see it worked.”

“Your sarcasm won’t help you when her program is complete. I only had to wait for Dr. Hikari to make this wonderful navi body, and for your impatience to get the better of you. Thus, you fell for my bait. Now, all I need is to spill your data… like I did before I got imprisoned.”

Bass Run!! Please get away! He means to delete you this time. I don’t want to see you hurt again. PLEASE, RUN YOU IDIOT! Lyne thought in panic to Bass, who looked at his captive, puzzled.

“It’s a real pity she still remembers what you… were, but… it’s too late for you now. Program Freeze!” Alpha said as he made Meg charge at Bass, who was now suddenly immobile and trying to fight against the Program Freeze. Meg’s possessed body then gracefully slid the sword under Bass’s left arm and swung upwards, removing it cleanly.

Noooooo! Lyne cried in her thoughts as she fell to the bottom of the Battle Cell that Alpha had made.

“Uhhh…” Bass moaned in pain, unable to cradle his wound, “So you were the reason for my torment back then, not the stupid humans,” he said as he twitched against the control of Alpha’s Program Freeze with his data flowing from his wound, onto Lyne, who still lay motionless at the bottom of the Battle Cell.

“I made the humans believe that you were the one tearing up the net, and they believed me, their precious Alpha Program, Ruler of the Net…”

As Alpha (with his high and mighty names) carried on, Bass remembered something his father had told him before his death.

Take this program my son. You’ll know when to use it. It will come in handy if there is great evil being used against you. It’s for your protection. I don’t want to see you hurt again. Remember my words. Take care my son.

When that memory faded, Bass thought, I remember that program. Dad… my creator gave it to me as he tried to fix me after I was wounded and got this scar. “Hey Alpha!” Bass shouted, getting Alpha’s attention off of himself, “I have a surprise for you. Shared Pain Program Activate.”

Just then Alpha, Meg, and Lyne all started to feel the pain Alpha had inflicted on Bass.

“Cossak didn’t... Rrggg, that pathetic human. Uhhhhhhh…… Bass…. You will pay for this outrage,” Alpha said as Meg’s body froze up as well. “Program Unfreeze. Recovery Program Activate,” he said as Meg’s body drifted down from where it was floating and fell to its knees. Now, Bass was also free to move and started to absorb computer bugs as Alpha recovered from what Bass had just done to his and Meg’s body.

Bass then got up as he started to reform his arm. “Now to delete you once and for all Alpha, and when I’m finished with you, I will take the NetPower you bestowed on the girl. Then, I will rule the Net!” Bass said forcefully as he placed his right hand over Meg’s face, “Extract Alpha Demon Program.”

A dark-red, glowing orb started to form in the palm of his hand. Once the orb was fully extracted from Meg, Bass activated his Dark Sword Arm, slashed the orb multiple times, deleting it into pixels and bug data. He absorbed the bugs, fully restoring his arm, and then picked up Lyne as Meg was getting back her senses. Just as Bass was about to disappear with Lyne, Meg tapped Bass in his lower back with the sword she held.

“Stop Bass!” Meg demanded of him. Bass stopped as she requested, “Let me have my NetOp back.” The Battle Cell then collapsed around them. Bass gulped as Meg pressed the sword a little harder into his back.

I’m not going to win this one. I’ve lost too much data and energy, but I can still be nasty. “Fine. Fetch your NetOp you worthless Female Navi,” he said as he dropped Lyne, “But I’ll be back.” He then logged out.

“Why does he have to be so immature?” Meg said as she flew, following after Lyne as she fell.

Meanwhile back on the ground Mega and Protoman saw what Bass had done.

“How could he do such a thing? Catch her Meg!” Mega shouted. Combit, seeing her former NetOp, also went into action, flying up under Lyne to slow her fall.

“He probably couldn’t put up much more of a fight with a sword in his back. I know I wouldn’t,” Protoman said as he folded his arms across his chest, dwelling on what he said. With Combit’s help, Meg managed to easily catch up to Lyne and grab her from the air. As her arms made contact with her NetOp, Lyne glowed brightly, and Meg and Lyne became Cross-Fused once again. Meg then passed out in mid air and started to fall.

“Umm... Protoman! Look!” Mega exclaimed as he noticed what had just happened. Meg’s Style Change then deactivated.

“Ohh, not again,” Combit said as she tried to get under the falling figure to slow it, It really hurt the last time I was caught under her when she fell.

“Don’t just stand there. Get ready to catch her,” Protoman said as he quickly ran around, judging where she was going to land. “Here!” he exclaimed as he stopped in position underneath Meg. “Brace for impact Mega,” he said as Mega and he linked their arms to create a makeshift net to catch Meg. She landed in their net safely. They then gently laid her on the ground. Once she was on the ground Meg’s armor deactivated to reveal Lyne covered in a smooth, dark, pixel-like substance.

“Ehhh…? What’s this?” Protoman asked as he kneeled and touched the dark substance. As he did so it faded from her body. His hand twitched back and confusion showed on both his and Mega’s face.

Mega placed his arm under her head to support it. Lyne stirred a little and cried out, “Alpha, Bass, Fight, Pain.” She then went silent. The rest of the guys came to check up on her, except for Searchman. He was still going over data he had just collected from what had happened. When they got there, Protoman fixed his attention on Raika.

“Raika, she’s not making any sense,” he said as he turned to face him. “She said “Alpha,” whoever that is, “Bass, Fight, and Pain.” Is she hurt or something?”

Just then, Searchman joined them and addressed Raika, “Sir, I’ve just gone over the fight data, and I picked up Alpha’s signature. He took control of Meg.”

Raika placed his hand on his chin and then recited, “The Two demons of N will wage war. One will be the victor, and from their battle the angel will be born through demons’ life liquid. No, what Lyne said makes sense. That message I just recited was hidden in the original Sister Program. Alpha always had a weird way of saying things. So the Alpha Demon Program activated to fight Bass. *Gulp* I’m afraid to ask, but who lost Searchman?” Raika asked his navi. Please don’t let it be Bass or we’re all doomed, he thought as he awaited Searchman’s reply.

“Bass got severely damaged by Alpha, but Alpha lost.” Raika looked at his navi in shock. “Bass extracted Alpha’s Demon Program from Meg, and deleted it into pixels and bugs. Then he absorbed the bug data….” Raika held his hand up to let Searchman know to stop talking and that he’d gotten the info he wanted to know.

“Typical that he’d take advantage of bug data,” Protoman muttered. “Yo! Searchman can you tell me what this stuff is? My scanners are…”

“Not calibrated. I know. Sure I can do that. Scanning…….” Searchman said, looking at the substance-covered hand Protoman held up.

“Why hasn’t the DA disappeared yet? Bass is gone. And where’s Meg?” Chaud asked as he tapped his foot impatiently.

“Maybe he logged out directly to the net instead of that robot he usually uses to get around,” Lan commented as he noticed Bass’s robot form still standing on top of the statue in the middle of the Park, “Since DA’s connect directly to the net.”

“Protoman, don’t let Lyne touch that. It’s Bass’s data,” Searchman said with widened eyes. Just then, as if it were drawn or attracted to it, Lyne’s hand grabbed Protoman’s. The data that had been on his hand disappeared.

“I know this is going to sound stupid, but why wasn’t she supposed to do that?” Mega asked as he looked up at Searchman.

“Lyne’s Copy Ability is active. That’s why. She can absorb data that way. Any data,” Searchman said, staring Mega down and emphasizing what he had said.

“But why Bass’s data?” Mega asked, confused.

“I’ll answer this one Searchman,” Raika said, stopping his navi from answering the question he was asked, “Bass’s data is part of a sort-of recipe that was written into the Sister Program. The end result, I guess, would have been a very powerful NetNavi that Alpha would use to gain back his ‘rightful place’ as Ruler of the Net, or so according to him.” Raika paused for effect and then continued, “But Bass was supposed to be deleted and absorbed by this navi, making Alpha the winner. Something must have prevented that, but what?” Raika pondered.

“Well then where’s Meg?” Mega asked, concerned for his sister program.

Lyne then opened her eyes and stared at her brother, “We are one. Sister Program complete.” Then she passed out again.

Episode 9: Grandfather

~ACDC Park~

“We are one. Sister Program complete,” Lyne said before blacking out again.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Lan and Mega asked in shock at the same time, addressing Raika, who seemed to have all the answers at the moment. Raika looked back at them, as puzzled as they were.

“What she just said,” Searchman said, breaking the silence, “Lyne is Meg, Meg is Lyne, and they can’t separate because Meg replaced the Alpha Program that Bass had extracted from Meg’s body. They now share all of Meg’s programming, body, and each other’s personalities.”

“Wait a minute!” Mega exclaimed, “That means that she has Meg’s security program. Will that mean that Lyne will be as clueless as Meg was?” Mega said in a worried tone.

“It’s too early to tell Megaman. Lyne’s programming is reconfiguring for her use,” Searchman explained as he placed a reassuring hand on Mega’s shoulder.

Just then the DA deactivated and they heard a loud, metallic bang behind them. They noticed Bass’s robot body sprawled out on the ground. Mega, Protoman, and Searchman returned to their PETs. Combit ended up inside Searchman’s because Lyne’s PET had vanished completely. Then came sighs of mixed relief from all three NetSaviors.

They were about to relax when loud sirens went off as vehicles drove onto the scene at the park: two limos, one pink and one black, and three clean up vehicles from IPC. Both limos pulled up beside the group of NetSaviors and Lyne. Yai, Anetta, Mayl, Jackie, Tony and Alexa came out of the pink limo. Mayl ran up to Lan and hugged him.

“Are you OK? You didn’t get hurt did you?” Mayl asked, concerned.

“I’m fine, but…” Lan said as he looked at Lyne, who lay unconscious on the ground, as Jackie and the others checked up on her. Dr. Hikari and Mr. Famous exited from the black limo and also walked up to Lyne. Dr. Hikari shook his head as Famous grabbed Raika and dragged him over to the black limo so that the group couldn’t hear what they were about to talk about.

“What happened?” Famous looked at Raika coldly, “Just a few minutes ago, Bass started to attack NetCity. From our scans he lost a lot of data, and we also have one very concerned father over there wanting to know what happened too. REPORT LIEUTENANT RAIKA!” Famous shouted at him.

Raika calmly explained what had happened to the best of his ability. He showed Famous the data Searchman collected from the fight afterwards, and explained what he had observed of Lyne right before they got there.

When he finished explaining, Famous nodded and sighed, “We better get her to the lab to finish her reconfiguration. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long night,” Famous said as he turned to walk towards the group.

“Thank you sir,” Riaka said gratefully.

“For what?” Famous said, giving Raika his attention again.

“For not yelling at me for failing my mission.”

“Oh that. I’m letting your commander do that for me,” Famous said, leaving Raika behind. Raika just gulped.

“See. I told you. Major reaming,” Searchman said from his PET.

“Get into the limo. He’s waiting on the phone for you right now,” Famous called back to him as he walked up to the gang. Raika turned towards the limo door, paused, took a deep breath, and then entered the Limo.

When Famous got there, he walked up to Yuu and whispered in his ear “Lets take her back to the lab. Searchman says she’s going through her reconfiguration phase.” Famous paused to catch his breath. “I told you not to initiate this program yet. Didn’t I?”

Yuu nodded as he picked up Lyne and took her to the black limo. Famous, Lan, and Chaud followed after him. Mayl, not wanting to be left behind, caught back up to Lan, grabbed his hand, and joined the little group. Jackie also followed the group and tapped Dr. Hikari on the shoulder.

“Lyne will be alright won’t she Dr. H.?” Jackie asked him in a concerned tone.

Yuu nodded as he placed Lyne into the limo, “Lyne will be fine. You can come visit her at home tomorrow if you’d like. I’ll e-mail you if anything changes. OK Jackie?” Yuu said as he buckled Lyne into her seat with his head turned toward Jackie. Jackie nodded in response. Yuu, Famous, Lan, Mayl, and Chaud then entered the black limo, and it took off towards IPC Labs.

“Wow, did you see that?” Maddy asked as she watched the scene from one of the nearby rooftops, through a pair of binoculars.

“See what? You’ve got the bloody binoculars,” Mr. Match replied sarcastically.

“The girl of course. You know, I had my doubts about her, but I think Mr. Wily is on to something,” Maddy said as she handed Mr. Match the binoculars.

“Of course he’s onto something Maddy,” Mr. Match said as he looked through them, “That girl is the last mind jumper. In fact, the same one that ruined the first network Mr. Wily made.”

“No way! She can’t be the same one,” Maddy said as she took back the binoculars and looked through them, “That was nine years ago. She would have been, like, seven years old. That’s too weird. We have to report this to Mr. Wily right away.”

They left the roof top, got into Maddy’s car, and drove off to the CCC building.

The limo ride was a bit cramped, because Raika was on the private side of the limo, being reamed by his commander.

“Is Lyne alright?” Mayl whispered into Lan’s ear.

Lan shrugged his shoulders and whispered back, “I don’t know. I really want to know what’s going on too Mayl,” he said as looked at his father, who was stroking Lyne’s hair gently.

The limo then came to a halt and they all got out. Two men with a gurney came up to the limo, took Lyne out of it, placed her on the gurney, and rushed her up to Famous’s Lab. When they got there, Lyne was placed onto one of the DC chambers and had the lid closed over the top of her. Famous then turned his attention to a more pressing issue: Bass.

“Is Bass still attacking NetCity?” Famous asked his staff. All of his staff members nodded. “Try to make him enter the UnderNet. I know someone down there who should calm him down.”

“Yes sir!” they replied as they followed their boss’s order.

“Yuu, we need to talk,” Famous said as he motioned Yuu to follow him into his control room.

“You guys sit by Lyne. I’ll be right back,” Yuu said to Lan, Mayl and Chaud, as he followed Famous into his control room. Once they were inside, Famous closed the door.

“Yuu, you need to see this,” Famous said as he brought up the video file that Searchman had made during the fight. Yuu watched it in shock as it played. He shed a tear, and hung his head when it was finished.

“I told you,” Famous said. “I think Bass triggered the Alpha Demon Program embedded in the Sister Program when he first encountered Lyne over a month ago. Yuu look at me,” Famous demanded of the saddened father. Yuu complied, looking up at his friend.

“There’s nothing I can do for her. I finished analyzing the data from Lyne’s exam this morning. She absorbed Rush’s Reality Jump Program, which is what you had already guessed at, but the other program was the Syncro Chip Program, and she used it Yuu. I don’t know how she was able to manipulate a complex program like that for her use, but she did.”

Yuu sighed, “Was it Lan’s chip she copied it from?” Famous nodded.

Yuu sighed again as he looked at Lyne laying in one of the DC chambers, “Lyne is pretty smart for a girl her age. *Sigh* Look at her Famous. She’s peaceful, and oblivious to what has happened to her, but she won’t be when she wakes up.”

“I know. I suggest you bring up a link to SciLab. You know who she’ll want to talk too.”

Yuu nodded as he brought up a link to his terminal at SciLab, “She’ll need an escort. I’ll send Hub with her.”

Famous nodded in agreement, “Why don’t you tell him she’s coming to see him?”

“Dad will understand if I don’t tell him. Besides, it’s his birthday in a sense, so seeing his grandchildren should make him happy.”

“I hope you’re right Yuu,” Famous said concerned.

Lan was sitting in a chair beside Lyne’s DC unit with Mayl sitting right beside him.

“Is she up yet?” Lan asked Mega as he looked at his PET.

“Lan, that is getting really old,” Chaud commented at Lan’s impatience.

“Yeah. I told you already, I don’t know,” Mega said in a slightly irritated tone.

“Yes, I am. *Thwack* Owww…” Lyne said as she sat up and hit her head on the cover of the DC unit. Lan chuckled at her, remembering that had happened to him about a month ago. Chaud then hit the cover release button, allowing Lyne to get up out of the unit. When the cover was fully open, Lyne sat up with her legs over the side and stretched. She then had a strange urge to see someone. She left the DC unit and walked up to the control room window, “I’m going to see Grandfather, Dad.”

“Only if you take Megaman with you.”

“OK. Thank you, Dad,” Lyne said as she smiled. I’m acting strange too. I’m not usually cheerful like this. This is so confusing, Lyne thought as she walked up to one of the external jack in ports for the control room. I’ve actually scanned over my programming, and it says I can do this, she thought as she touched the jack in port. I’m a little frightened of what will happen to me though. She paused for a moment, No! I don’t want to go by myself, she thought as she jerked her hand away from the port. Lan saw that Lyne was frightened of something so he decided to walk up to her and find out what it was.

“What are you trying to do Lyne? We can help if you want.”

Lyne looked at Lan with a grateful smile, “Can you have Mega jack in? It would help a lot.”

“Sure, Lyne. Megaman, Jack In,” Lan said as he jacked Mega into one of the ports.

Lyne touched one of the other ports, “Jack in,” Lyne said calmly as she turned into data, and entered the port.

Lan looked shocked as he watched Lyne do so. So did Chaud and Mayl. Seconds after Lyne disappeared into the port, she appeared on a display screen in what was now her Meg Armor. Mega was about as shocked as the others.

“How?!” he asked as his jaw dropped.

“I got a program from Rush,” Lyne replied as she played with her hair, noticing its length and color, “It was what made me sick last week. When it got incorporated into my programming, I got better.” She then looked up at him, “Are you ready to go see Grandpa, Hub?”

“Really? We get to go see Grandpa?” Mega said excitedly. Lyne nodded. “Then let’s go Lyne, or should I call you Meg?”

“Lyne is fine between us. Use Meg in public, around other navis.”

“OK!” Mega smiled as he took note of this.

“Are you ready Lyne?” her father asked as he appeared on a vid window in front of her. Lyne took a deep breath to calm her nerves (since she was starting to get nervous) and nodded. “Listen to my directions. This link will take you to my terminal at SciLab. From there, use the Guardian link, and remember to use your password or you’ll get locked out. You got that Lyne?” her father asked in a concerned tone.

“Uh huh,” Lyne responded as she nodded and as Hub grabbed her hand, dragging her over to the NetPortal that would lead them to SciLab.

He’s just like Lan, Lyne thought with a slight smile as she pulled back hard in order for Hub to stop dragging her, but it didn’t work. Mega was too strong for her to stop at the moment. She then gave in as they entered the NP. As they traveled down the data stream, Lyne looked around at the data stream with her own eyes for the first time instead of through her navis’. It felt great, and also strange to her. Lyne hadn’t fully gotten a chance to move about in her new form, but she had most of her normal senses of sight, touch, and hearing. This is cool. I wonder how smell and taste work for navis. I never asked Combit or Meg if nutritional data had a smell or taste. I’ll have to try it later, she thought as she made a little mental note to do so. Just then they exited the NP. They noticed a navi dressed in grey armor, a white lab coat, and a light-blue visor running about on their father’s work page, gathering up mettuars and other various viruses, and placing them into what looked like containers or cages.

“Why does this always happen when Dr. Hikari is gone from work? Every single time!” the navi complained as he placed the last virus into a container and locked it up.

Lyne walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder, “SDM1.”

This made the navi jump and face his visitor, “Oh! Meg you scared me. Hello Hub. What are you guys doing here?”

Lyne never really thought about it before as she looked into SDM1’s visor at her reflection. She looked exactly like Meg right doen to her emerald green eyes. She had noticed earlier that her hair was different, but not her eyes. This is going to take some getting used to. she thought as she leared her throat. “Ahem...We’re here to use the Guardian link to go talk with Grandpa,” Lyne said with a smile on her face. SDM1 looked at her awkwardly, and then over at Hub, who nodded in agreement.

Did it happen already?! Scan Meg………. SDM1 thought as he ran his scan program.

“Stop scanning me! Geez!” Lyne exclaimed in shock from feeling him do so.

“I’m sorry… Lyne… This way,” SDM1 apologized to Lyne as he motioned them to follow him. They did so and stopped in front of a closed NP.

SDM1 then opened it, “Remember to use your own password. OK Lyne?” he said, reminding Lyne of what her father had told her.

“I will. Thanks SDM1!” Lyne said as she excitedly led Hub through the portal this time.

She seemed frightened earlier, Hub thought as she did so, Now she seems like she’s actually enjoying being a navi. Man, why is Lyne so hard to understand?! They then exited the data stream and entered a huge site with a really huge navi in the center.

“That’s Guardian,” Lyne whispered to Hub and pointed to the giant navi, “His job was to keep an eye over Pharaohman while he slept with Grandfather. I guess now he keeps an eye over Grandpa’s site,” she whispered as she motioned Hub to follow her. They had been a good distance off when they first looked at him, but now that they were closer, Lyne stopped and gulped when she looked at Guardian up close.

Guardian is really intimidating in real life, she thought as she continued to approach Guardian. Guardian’s eyes glowed in warning at their approach.

“Password,” he rumbled in a deep tone.

Lyne gulped again as Hub hid behind her. “MLNetAngel Hikari,” she said in a scared tone.

Guardian’s eyes stopped glowing, “Password Accepted.” He then opened a NP at his feet, “Tell your grandfather I said hello,” he said as he ushered them through the portal with his gigantic hand.

This portal trip was like walking through a door. They entered an area that looked like a large meadow by a lake. Mt. Fuji appeared on the other side of the lake and there was a little house by the lake’s edge.

“I remember this place,” Lyne said as she took in all the scenery, “This is where Grandpa goes on vacation. He must not be busy at all. *Sigh* This place feels so real,” Lyne said as she crouched, touching the grass, feeling every single blade as she ran her hand over it.

“But you know it’s not,” a voice said behind her. Lyne stood up and turned to face an old man with semi-long, white hair and a fluffy, white beard, wearing casual clothes and fishing gear.

“Grandpa!” Lyne exclaimed as she ran up to him and hugged him, “How are you?”

“I’m good Lyne. I didn’t expect you to come see me today,” he said as she hugged him, Damn it Yuuchiro! Why didn’t you tell me it happened? he thought angrily, “And you’ve come so late. It’s past your bed time,” he said and rubbed the top of her helmet after she let go. Lyne smiled in response. “Same goes for you Hub. Keeping Lan out of trouble?”

“Yes, Grandpa,” Hub said as his grandfather also rubbed his helmet.

“That’s a good boy. I was about to play my fishing game. Do you want to watch?” Grandpa Hikari asked the both of them. Both Hub and Lyne nodded and followed their grandfather to the lake. Once they got there, Grandfather Tadashi brought up a menu, “I’m going to need a bigger boat if you’re coming along,” he said as he selected an 18 foot, inboard engine boat from the menu, “This one is my favorite.” It appeared and landed in the digital water, causing a little water spray. Lyne enjoyed the spray as it touched her face.

How can this not be real? she wondered as she bent down and touched the water. It didn’t move at her touch, but more on its own. She then got an idea. She jumped off the dock towards the water, expecting a splash, but instead hit it solidly. “Owww!” Lyne complained in pain as she got up and started to punch and smack at the water to get it to do what she wanted it to do.

“I told her it wasn’t real,” Grandfather sighed, “I bet her senses caught up with her,” he said to Hub as they watched Lyne attacking the digital water.

“Grandpa, what are senses?” Hub asked curiously.

“Senses. Well navis and humans share three senses. Sight, sound, and touch.”

Hub nodded in understanding, “So that’s why Lyne is punching the digital water.”

“Yeah you could say that. This is kind of funny to watch. She should know better,” Grandfather said as they watched Lyne give up and cry.

I wanted to go swimming, Lyne thought as she slumped on top of the water. She felt strange as she sat there, as if her energy was all gone. She then passed out.

“*Sigh* I guess we’re not going fishing today. Oh well. I’m going to call your father to come pick you two up,” Grandfather said as he walked out on the water and picked Lyne up from where she had gone into sleep mode. He then walked up to his house by the lake as Hub followed him inside. Once inside Grandpa Tadashi placed Lyne on his bed. “My my, is she getting heavy. Where is your father at Hub?”

“Mr. Famous’s lab at IPC. Lan’s there too. You could do a direct link back to my PET if you want. It’d be much easier then having dad drive over here to pick us up.”

“True.” Grandpa nodded in agreement, “Take Lyne with you though. I don’t think she has a PET anymore since she changed,” he said as he brought up a direct IP address link to Hub’s PET.

“Grandfather, was Lyne meant to be a navi?” Hub asked as he was about to pick up Lyne.

“Not originally. She was a Mind Jumper. You and Lan probably already know what happened to her when she was used as bait to lure Pharaohman. He did something to her, or at least her mind,” Grandfather said as he sat down in one of his chairs by the fire-place. “Have a seat Hub,” he said as he gestured to the other chair. Hub sat down, “Dr. Cossack and I found out shortly after we had trapped Pharaohman that Lyne was meant to be used as a tool for control of the internet by Alpha. There was no avoiding this until Cossack came to me one day and told me that Alpha had plans to delete Bass, his finest creation, to achieve his goal.”

“Bass?! That’s right; Raika mentioned that Bass was meant to be deleted by Lyne’s navi, but why?” Hub asked as he looked at his Grandfather.

“Because of his independence. Bass was the only navi Alpha had no control over. This made him furious and jealous. With Bass under his control, nothing could stop him. So what we did was copy one of Lyne’s programs and installed it into Bass when we found him after we trapped Alpha.”

“But Dr. Cossack left SciLabs after the Pharaohman incident.”

“Yes he did, but it was to find Bass. He tried to repair him. Have you seen Bass’s icon Hub?” Hub nodded, “Just awful isn’t it? If Lyne found out, it would break her heart.”

“Why Grandpa? Did Bass mean something to her?” Hub asked as he looked at Lyne sleeping on the bed.

“It’s her nature to be forgiving Hub. That was how she was originally, before Alpha corrupted her, but if you want to know what Bass means to her, you’d have to ask her yourself.”

“What kind of program did you give Bass so that he wouldn’t be deleted by Alpha?”

“It was really ingenious actually. Alpha didn’t see the flaws in his own programming. We copied Lyne’s Shared Pain Program.” Hub looked at his grandpa, confused, “It passes the users pain to another that has the same program.”

“Let’s see, Lyne originally had the program. You copied it and installed it into Bass. Meg is a copy of Lyne’s Program, so she had it too. How does Alpha come into the picture?”

“Don’t know. Could you tell me what happened this evening? I might be able tell you how Alpha became involved.”

Hub turned back to look at his grandpa and told him everything that he was able to observe for the past month, and what had happened that evening.

“I see. So this just happened a few hours ago. Alpha’s involvement is easy to explain. Lyne is strong enough to mentally hold off Alpha, so he digitized her mind into her PET so that Meg was in control of her body. Downfall number one: Alpha can only possesses Lyne’s body. Doing so made it easy for him to have control over Lyne’s body so he could fight Bass.”

“Oh *yawn* That explains a lot.” Hub looked up at the mantelpiece above the fireplace and saw a sepia (brown and white) picture of two children, a boy and a girl, playing in a sandbox. He got up and took the picture down off the mantelpiece, “Who’s in this picture?” Hub asked as he turned it towards his grandpa to look at it.

“Oh that picture. Dr. Cossack took that one about 11 years ago. Hmm, I think that you and Lan had only just been born then.”

“Um, 11 years ago? I think we were about two, or almost two anyway.”

“Really,” Tadashi said in mild wonder, “My, it’s been such a long time, I suppose my memory isn’t what it was. I guess I should ask Yuuichiro for some more, heh,heh. The little girl is your sister and the little boy is Cossack’s son Connor. They were both five years old then. You can keep the picture if you want, but don’t let Lyne see it until the time is right.”

“How would I know when to show her Grandpa?” Hub asked, confused, as he stored the picture in his program storage.

“Trust me, you’ll know who to show it to and when to do so. You look like you’re about to go into sleep mode yourself. I won’t keep you up any longer with my stories. Go and head back to your PET and get some rest.”

“Yes Grandpa. Good night,” Hub said as he picked up Lyne and walked through the NP leading back to his PET. On the way back, he almost passed out in the data stream. Once he arrived back in his PET he put Lyne down and yawned.

“So how’d it go Mega?” Lan asked curiously.

“Can you ask me tomorrow? I’m about to go into sleep mode Lan.” Mega said and he went into sleep mode shortly after he spoke to Lan. Lan was about to press the sleep button to wake up his brother because he was now even more curious about what Hub got to do with Lyne, but Mayl stopped his hand by placing hers on his.

“Lan it’s been a long day. Let him rest,” Mayl said in a comforting tone, “Besides, he needs a recharge, and it looks like Lyne needs one too.”

Lan blushed as he gave into Mayl’s request. He then walked up to the control room door and opened it, “Dad. I need to go home and recharge Mega. Um, and Lyne.”

“Wait a sec, Lan. Chaud,” Yuu called out the door.

Chaud walked up to the open door, “Yes sir.”

“Would you mind spending the night over at our house tonight?” Yuu asked him.

“OK. Sure, why not? I’m really tired and need to rest, and my home is further away from here than yours is. Thank you for the hospitality Dr. Hikari.”

“Thank you. Now off with you guys,” Yuu said as he closed the door. As he did so, a window popped up on one of the terminals.

“Yuuichiro, you have a lot of explaining to do!” a voice shouted from it.

Yuu walked up to the terminal, “Um… Dad, I can explain,” Yuu said as he went into a long explanation about what had happened. While he was doing so, Lan, Mayl and Chaud were on their way to Lan’s house to sleep.

A computer screen turns on and the equipment around it hums into life.

“Just as we had predicted,” a calm female voice said as she and two other shadowy figures entered the room, “Alpha has been destroyed. What do we do now?”

“Wait for the right moment to announce our presence,” the taller of the two others replied imperiously to her as he walked up to the computer screen and ran his fingers down it, “And when we do the Angel and Demon will be ours to control. Like our master Alpha had originally planed.”

“Heh heh he. Angel and Demon!!” the third mysterious figure said as he bounced up and down excitedly. “Carnage and destruction!”

“Patience. Zodiac is back online. Let us prepare for our day of triumph,” the tall man said in a commanding tone and raised his hand up in a tight fist. “Muhahaha!”

Epiosde 10: Data Fight

~Hikari Home~19 Aug 200X~

Early morning at the Hikari Home was usually peaceful, but this morning was different. Lyne got up and stretched as she woke from her sleep mode, much like she did every morning from her own bed. After that she looked around at her surroundings and noticed her navi brother still sleeping beside her. Cool I’m still a navi. *Yawn* Man, why do I still feel drained of energy though? she thought as she slumped back down on the ground beside Megaman. Just then Protoman appeared close by with what resembled a drink and a square breakfast cake the size of his fist.

“I thought I’d bring you a little something to bring your energy up,” he said as he approached Lyne with the items he held in his hands.

Lyne eyed the food-like items closely. I do feel hungry, and it looks harmless, but… “What is it?” she asked, pointing at the supposed food.

“It’s nutritional data Meg,” Protoman replied as he offered the items he had in his hands to Lyne. Lyne took the drink-like data and smelled it. The data didn’t have any odor at all. Protoman watched curiously as she did this, pondering what she would do next with the data he had given her. Lyne’s stomach then growled silently as she noticed a faint smell now coming from the drink data. Lyne decided to investigate this strange smell by sniffing the drink data again. As she did so, the odor stung her nose. She then shook her head and rubbed her nose with her free hand to get rid of the smell. At the same time, she placed the drink down.

“I’d rather have real food. I don’t trust the drink.”

“You need the energy Meg. Your system is low on energy, and you went through a lot last night,” Protoman said in a stern tone.

Lyne nodded, agreeing with what he said, but she still didn’t want the drink so she pushed it away from her. Protoman shook his head at her and offered her the cake-like piece of data. Lyne took it out of curiosity and inspected it in the same manner she did with the drink. It had a similar odor that also stung her nose. She then placed the cake-like data next to the drink, folded her arms across her chest, and turned her head away from the data.

Protoman’s left eye cocked up behind his visor in amusement, This is a first. I’ve never seen a navi refuse data before, he thought as Mega started to stir, waking up from his sleep mode. Mega then stretched as he looked around his surroundings, noticing his sister and his friend in what looked like an argument.

“What’s going on?” Mega asked, confused, “Hey! Protoman why are you here?” Mega asked in shock, realizing that his friend was in his PET.

“Your sister is being stubborn,” Protoman said in an angry tone as he crossed his arms too, “She won’t consume the data I gave her. Her energy is low, and I’m here because Chaud got asked to spend the night by Dr. Hikari. Searchman, Flashman, Sandman, and Scorpion are here as well. We’ve been watching over Meg all night since you were in sleep mode. Searchman and I are the ones watching over her right now.”

Mega relaxed as he looked over at his sister, who was still refusing to consume the data offered her by his friend. He then walked up to her and picked up the cake-like data. “Protoman you know that it’s much easier to consume this if it’s broken up first,” Mega said as he broke the data he held into smaller pieces.

“What’s wrong with consuming it whole? I do it all the time,” Protoman said as he folded his arms behind his head and leaned against one of the pillars that accented Mega’s PET.

Mega shook his head and took one of the pieces of data, put it in his mouth, and smiled at Lyne. “Yum… Now you try, Sis,” Mega said as he offered Lyne a smaller piece of the cake-like data, “Say Aaa….”

“Aaa….” Lyne said as she opened her mouth, It’s Ok if Hub helps me, Lyne thought to herself as her brother threw the piece of data in her mouth. Almost immediately, an awful taste filled Lyne’s mouth. She tried to do what was natural and spit it out, but her system had already absorbed it. She then grabbed the drink-like data to wash away the awful taste, but it didn’t help. She only took a sip before she realized that it tasted worse then the little piece of data she had just consumed. She dropped the drink to the floor spilling it, “This stuff tastes awful. I refuse to consume anymore.”

Mega and Protoman looked at each other, shocked, “She can taste the data?” they asked each other in unison.

Mega then waved his hands in front of him, “Heh heh, Meg; navis don’t have a sense of taste or smell. Grandfather Tadashi told me so last night. Come on. Please consume the rest of the data Protoman gave you.” Mega gestured to the data in front of Lyne.

“NO!” Lyne shouted as she got up off the ground and crossed her arms, “Make me. I dare you,” she said as she glared angrily at both of them.

Protoman got up from his relaxed position on the pillar as he cocked his left eye up behind his visor again. He then started to approach Lyne as he took some of the data pieces that Mega held in his hand.

“I like challenges,” he said as he tossed the pieces of data in the air and caught them while coming closer to Lyne, “So you want to be force fed. I can oblige that request.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Protoman,” Mega said as he tried to stop Protoman, who was still approaching Lyne, “If she doesn’t want the data, that’s fine. She’s just a little frightened and a little new to being a navi.”

Protoman shook Mega off him and continued to approach Lyne. Lyne then kicked at the data so it flew at Protoman’s face. The data covered Protoman’s visor, “Hey! I can’t see! Lyne get back here!” he said angrily as he wiped his visor clean, noticing Lyne run away from them.

“Now look what you did! I warned you,” Mega shouted as he pointed at Protoman.

“What I did? She’s the one being stubborn,” Protoman said as he pointed in the direction Lyne had fled, “She can’t fully recharge like we can. She doesn’t have a PET now. This is the only way,” he said as he pointed at the data in Mega’s hand.

“She absorbed Bass’s data. Why doesn’t she absorb some computer bugs for energy like he can?”

“Dr. Hikari said Lyne has an Anti Bug Program, plus she purified his data when she absorbed it. He said that her hidden element can counter Bass’s, canceling it out.”

“I didn’t think she even had an element, let alone Bass having one.”

“Hey that’s what your father said last night. I thought it was obvious that he had an element.”

“*Sigh* Well then let’s go get her, but we’re going to need help,” Mega said as Protoman nodded in agreement. They then linked over to the lounge Meg had made a few days ago where all the other navis Protoman had mentioned earlier were in sleep mode, except for Searchman.

“Hey Searchman have you seen-” Protoman asked, but he got cut off by Searchman’s reply.

“Lyne, yeah. She’s over there hiding. What did you guys do?” Searchman asked from the chair he had claimed, pointing at a link hallway that lead to another part of the HHN.

“Protoman is trying to force-feed Lyne. She said that data had a taste and then fled thanks to this guy,” Mega said in a semi-angry tone.

“Hey, don’t accuse me of anything. You got her to have some, so it’s partially your fault too,” Protoman said as he approached Mega about to activate his sword arm, ready to fight. Searchman sighed as he got up from his seat and stood between them.

“Hey now, you two get a hold of yourselves,” Searchman said as he shoved them apart, “What would you expect to happen if either of you were human and navi at the same time? I wouldn’t blame her for running from something she doesn’t like. It’s natural human behavior,” Searchman scolded them both, making Mega feel ashamed and Protoman feel a bit more understanding, but still not willing to give up in his pursuit.

“Lyne, come here,” Protoman called out to her hiding place as he pointed to the ground in front of himself. Searchman and Mega had sweat drops on the sides of their helmets. Lyne poked her head out of her hiding space and shook her head. Protoman then shrugged his shoulders and went after her.

“Protoman!” Mega shouted to his friend, and he was about to bolt after him, but was stopped by Searchman grabbing his shoulder.

“Let him learn not to mess with Lyne on his own. Besides, I have a plan to catch her if he can get her out of there,” Searchman said before he started to whisper the plan into Mega’s ear armor. Mega nodded in agreement after he finished, and started to wake the other navis, who were sleeping. Lyne peeked out from her hiding place again, noticing how close her pursuer was.

Then she got an idea, I don’t know if this will work but here it goes, she thought as she touched the gem on the backpack-like section of her armor. It opened and she took out her chip folder. This is neat! Alright, now for a chip to help me get away from Protoman, she thought again flipping through her folder, “Light Aura… No... Angel Wings, huh? It’s blank!” Oh, right. I… no, Megawoman sacrificed it yesterday. So then… Lyne did a quick internal search, Yes! It’s integrated now. Well, don’t have to worry about it then “Ohh… I need something quick. Hum… What’s this?” she asked herself as she took the chip in question from her folder, Oh! she exclaimed in her thoughts, I haven’t used this one yet. Sorry Mr. Smith. I did mean to use it when Combit was well, but I forgot after all that happened. Well, I think now’s a good time to use it. “Copy Stealth Armor,” Lyne said quietly as she slid the chip across her hand, activating her copy ability.

“Options. Oooo!!” Lyne said as she brought up the options menu for the chip program, “It’s also a style change! Cool! Sacrifice Stealth Armor Program. Stealth Bomber Style Change, activate!” Lyne quietly called out. Her armor changed from its normal, purple color to a flat-black color all over. She then put her chip folder away and got ready to make a break for it as Protoman rounded the corner of her hiding place. When he got there, he saw no sign of Lyne at all.

“Are you sure she’s in here?” Protoman called back to Searchman in confusion as he started to look around her dark hiding place.

“She can’t exit out of that link. We locked it last night to keep the viruses out, remember?” Searchman called back.

“Right! OK Lyne, I’m coming to get you out whether you like it or not,” Protoman said as he entered Lyne’s hiding spot. He barely got to take a step inside it before he got knocked back by a fast, black blur. “Uhh… Searchman did you scan that?” Protoman asked as he got back up off the ground.

“No navi signature detected, at least no heat signature. Switching to radar….. Nope still no navi signature… HUD… Now I see it…. Yep, it’s Lyne. Be careful Protoman. She style changed,” Searchman said in a cautious tone.

“She’s getting more challenging. I’m going to enjoy this,” Protoman said as he activated his Sword Arm as a precaution and started to chase the black blur around the digital lounge. As he did so, the other navis got into positions around the room to keep Lyne running as Protoman chased her. After a few laps around the lounge Lyne turned to face Protoman and gave him a razzberry while still running. As she did so, Searchman activated his buster and placed the barrel on the ground, using it as a trip bar. Lyne tripped over it backwards, tumbling over and over again until she was stopped by one of the lounge chairs. Mega shook his head at Searchman as he ran over to Lyne to check up on her, and so did Protoman, who was ahead of him.

“That looked like it really hurt,” said a female navi with light green eyes and long black hair, wearing light blue armor with black stripe accents and dark green boots and gloves. Her icon had the symbol for Scorpio in the center of it and was dark green with a light blue background and black encircling it. “Couldn’t you have been more gentle, Searchman?” she questioned in a concerned tone.

“Lyne is one of the most stubborn people I’ve met, Scorpion. It was for her own good,” Searchman said as he followed after Mega and Protoman.

Protoman was the first to check up on Lyne. Shortly thereafter, Mega arrived as Protoman was putting Lyne into a sitting position. Her armor returned to its normal color. She then gave Protoman an angry glare.

“Don’t blame me. I’m trying to help,” Protoman said as she tried to move to get away, but remained limp in his arms. She then started to cry, making Protoman feel and look a little uneasy. Mega took her from his friend and held her close to his chest. She only cried harder.

“Shh… It’s alright, you just used most of your energy. Protoman, there’s got to be another way to recharge her. Think of something,” Mega pleaded to his friend to figure something out.

“We could try to use MiniEnergy SubChips, but I don’t have any right now,” Protoman suggested as he crouched beside Mega and as the other navis walked up to them.

“Do you guys have any MiniEnergies?” Mega asked as he faced the other navis. They shook their heads in response.

“Aw man! And Lan ran out two days ago too,” Mega said as he propped Lyne up against the chair she had crashed into and wiped away her tears. He then placed his hand on her shoulder, You do know what we’re going to have to do, right Lyne? he thought to her, getting her attention.

Lyne nodded, But I’m not going to like it. Why can’t you taste or smell the data? Lyne thought back to him.

As I said earlier Lyne; Navis don’t have a sense of taste or smell like humans do.

Then why do I? I’m a navi now, just like you, Lyne thought as she started to cry again.

Don’t know Lyne, he thought as he wiped her tears away again, Maybe Dad or Mr. Famous could explain that. Now relax, ‘cause here it comes, Mega thought as he brought a piece of data up to Lyne’s mouth.

“Are they talking, Cammo?” Flash asked Searchman.

“Possibly. Looks like he convinced her to have some data. That’s a good sign,” Searchman commented on his observation of Mega and Lyne’s interaction.

“She used to be able to speak to us by just thinking to us. Maybe she still can,” Scorpion also commented on what she saw.

“Why didn’t Tony send me over with some Recovery Chips?” Sand wondered as he slumped down on the ground.

Scorpion hit him on the back of his helmet, “Stupid, she doesn’t need to be healed. She needs energy.”

“Oww, Scorp. What was that for?” Sand asked indignantly as he rubbed the back of his helmet in pain.

Sand’s complaint woke Combit out of her sleep mode. She floated up from where she rested and noticed the other navis gathered around Meg. This caused her to feel great concern for her, so she decided to investigate what was going on. Once she was floating over the crowd of navis, she noticed Meg turn her head away from the data Mega had offered her.

“I’ll use Mom’s medicine trick if you don’t cooperate, Lyne,” Mega said as he tried again.

Lyne, how did I miss this? I must have been really distracted last night, Combit thought to herself as she pondered how Lyne had taken over Meg’s body and managed to get onto the HHN. Lyne refused to open her mouth and turned away again.

“This is for your own good,” Mega said as he pinched her nose to force her mouth to open.

“Hey!” Lyne shouted in protest to Mega’s action, opening her mouth wide. He then put a piece of data in her mouth and closed her mouth quickly so she wouldn’t reject it.

He watched her reaction as she struggled against the taste in her mouth. Man, am I glad I don’t have a sense of taste or I’d be in the same place as her. At least it’s working. Her energy is increasing, Mega thought as he repeated the same process over and over until Lyne started to fight Mega again. Protoman, Searchman, and Flash came to his aid by grabbing Lyne and pinning her down on the floor so she wouldn’t fight back as much.

“Get off of me!” Lyne shouted angrily as she struggled against her captors.

“Now, now. We’re trying to help,” said Flash, who was in charge of pinning her chest down.

“No you’re not. You’re squishing me,” Lyne shouted back, “I can barely breathe.”

Flash then let off of her chest a little but didn’t let go of her shoulders and her sides, which helped pin her to the ground.

“Lyne relax a little. You’re almost done,” Mega said as he started to feed her data in the same manner as before she started to put up a fight. Lyne noticed how odd the data consumption felt to her. She didn’t swallow it or even have the sensation of it sliding down her throat to her stomach. It felt like it just disappeared at the back of her mouth.

Man, do I have a lot to learn about being a navi, she thought as she gave up struggling and relaxed, allowing her brother to feed her data. She even opened her mouth for him.

“You guys can stop pinning her; she’s fine,” Mega said as he was about to give her another drink-like data, similar to the one she had spilled on the floor of Mega’s PET. Once they got off of her Lyne sat up and grabbed it and proceeded to drink it. Mega looked at her in shock.

“What? My tongue went numb,” Lyne said when she finished the drink data, feeling much better.

“What’s that?” Sand asked curiously, not really paying attention. Lyne then stuck her tongue out at him and pointed at it. “Oh!” Sand said as he started to feel embarrassed for even asking in the first place.

She returned her tongue to her mouth and got up of the ground, “I wonder how everyone is doing. Tony, Alexa, Jackie, and Chaud spent the night, right?” Lyne asked curiously.

“Only Chaud did. We got invited to come over and keep an eye on you, Meg uh… I mean Lyne,” Sand said, blushing as he shuffled his feet, approaching Lyne.

Scorpion pushed him aside to give Lyne some room from his crowding, “Are you feeling better? Alexa and I were really worried about you,” she said in a tone of concern.

“And so is Jackie!” Flash said as he crossed his arms and glared at her.

Lyne sweat dropped at this, “I’m fine. I’m really sorry to have caused such concern,” Lyne apologized to both Flash and Scorpion.

Now I have to come up with a new nick name for Purple Girl, Flash thought for a moment, tapping one of his fingers while his arms were still crossed, Na! Purple girl is fine. She still looks the same anyway. “I’ll go tell Jackie you’re fine,” Flash said as he logged out of the HHN.

“OK,” Lyne called after him as he left.

“So Lyne, what are you going to do next? Want to have some tea?” Sand asked as he rocked forward on his feet out of curiosity. Scorpion pushed him forward, causing him to fall flat on his face.

Lyne laughed at him as he got back up, Just like Tony and Alexa, she thought to herself.

“Honestly Sand. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. She’s human,” Scorpion scolded him, making him blush out of embarrassment.

Lyne decided it was time to change the subject, “How’s Raika doing, Searchman?”

“Other then the fact that he got the reaming of his life from his commander, he’s fine. In fact, he’s sleeping right now,” Searchman replied as Lyne hung her head, ashamed that she had gotten Raika into trouble.

“It’s OK Lyne. He’s fine, I swear,” Searchman said as he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, making her feel better.

“Lyne jack out now. I want to talk to you,” her father said in a semi-angry tone as he appeared on a vid window in front of her.

Lyne gulped in response, Dad sounds mad. I hope I’m not in trouble too, Lyne thought as she concentrated on logging out of the HHN. She then disappeared from the digital lounge and appeared in front of the family computer. She felt a little dizzy as she stood there for a minute, This is definitely going to take some getting used to, she thought as she started to look around to figure out where she was. “Dad where are you?” she called out as she finally got her bearings back.

“I’m in the dining area. Come eat breakfast, and please keep it down. People are still sleeping,” her father said quietly, correcting Lyne.

Real food! “OK!” Lyne said quietly as she walked silently from the computer, through the living room, passing by Chaud, who was sleeping soundly on the couch. From there, she entered the dining room and sat across from her father and in front of the breakfast that he’d made for her.

“Your mom is sleeping. Dig in.” He gestured to her breakfast. Lyne complied with his request and started to eat her breakfast, “How are you feeling?”

Lyne stopped eating to reply, “Fine I guess. I feel different though.”

“Different how? Not much different from Mind Jumping, Cross Fusion is,” he said in a slightly angry tone, and glaring at Lyne.

Lyne picked up his tone as he spoke and hung her head, “I know, but I couldn’t stop my copy ability when I touched Lan’s chip. My power activated on its own and I had no control over it, and… and the cover code wasn’t mine either. I’ve never seen encoding more sophisticated than yours, Dad,” Lyne said as she started to cry with only half her breakfast eaten, “I can’t taste my breakfast. Why can’t my navi body recharge like Hub’s can? I hate having to consume data.”

“I see now. Famous was right about the Alpha Demon Program activating last month. And you can’t recharge like your brother because you don’t have a PET. So you’d better get used to consuming data for energy.”

“What?! The Demon Program activated last month! Why didn’t you tell me?” Lyne said, shocked, as she wiped away the tears from her eyes, then started to eat again, realizing she was still hungry as her stomach growled loudly.

“We found out last night. The Alpha Program activated when you first encountered Bass on your birthday. Alpha needed Bass’s data to complete your programming.”

“I know,” Lyne hung her head again, “I told him to run, Dad. I told Bass to run, but he didn’t. I want to know what happened to Bass. What did Alpha do to Bass?” Lyne cried angrily.

“Keep it down Lyne. Alpha cut off Bass’s arm…”

“I already know that!” Lyne exploded at her father, “I was there when that happened. What happened to Bass when Alpha attacked him the first time? When Bass got framed for destroying the net? Then, Dad! What happened then?”

“You had to ask that,” he said quietly as he looked at Lyne’s determined face, “*Sigh* You’re not going to like what I have to say Lyne, so be prepared,” he said, pausing for a moment to figure out what to say, “*Sigh* Here it goes. His icon got scarred, and his main restoration program got destroyed. His backup one is now active, and you know what that means. He’s slowly deleting Lyne.”

Lyne looked at her father, horrified to hear what he had just said, “Can’t you stop it from happening? I don’t want to see my friend die again. Not again!” she cried as she got up and placed her face in his chest.

Yuu hugged his daughter, feeling her pain, “I’m afraid not Lyne. Cossack took all of his research on Bass with him to his grave,” he said as he hugged her even closer to him. He then felt something wet on his chest, She still cares greatly for Bass, but I can’t let her go near him. Not when he still wants to take her NetPower. Lyne’s not powerful enough to take on Bass by herself. Or is she? He shook his head to rid himself of the thought. I can’t afford to risk it. “Lyne, I’m going to ask you not to go anywhere by yourself. Here or on the net. You must have someone with you at all times. Promise me Lyne,” he said as he lifted her chin to look at him.

“Is it because of Bass, Father?” Lyne asked, still streaming tears.

“Yes, Lyne. Until we find a way to fix him, or do something to guarantee your safety.”

“*Sniff* I understand, Father. I’m going to my room,” Lyne said as she dried her tears and left him.

“When you get up there, deactivate your armor!” he called to her.

“What?!” she exclaimed in slight surprise as she stopped by the mirror at the bottom of the stairs, noticing she was still was wearing her digital armor, “OK, Dad. Thank you!” she said as she went upstairs to her room.

After she left, Chaud’s PET alarm went off.

“Wake up sir. You’ll be late for your morning meeting with your share holders,” Protoman said as he returned to his PET.

“Oh crap!” Chaud exclaimed as he got up and dressed quickly.

“Need a ride?” Dr. Hikari asked him.

“Yes, if you don’t mind, but not in that crazy van of yours.”

“Fair,” Yuu said as he got ready to take Chaud to the Main IPC Building.

“Get out of my domain you Jerk!” exclaimed a female navi with a dark brown completion, blonde hair and dark brown eyes, wearing white baggy pants, a black top, gold shoulder armor, gauntlets, and belt. Her helmet, and belt were accented with round green gems, and she had pink scarves that floated in the air behind her, “You woke me out of my sleep mode,” she said as she attacked the navi she called a jerk.

“I’m welcome here,” Bass said as he dodged her attack, “You said so yourself, Serenade.”

“Not to wreck the place. Look at what you’ve done to my UnderNet,” she gestured to all the destruction he had caused.

“I’m a little angry at the moment. So what? Nothing you can’t fix.” Bass said as he shrugged his shoulders and dodged another attack.

“BASS YOU IDIOT!!! You’re the one who will be fixing it. It’s your duty as a citizen of my UnderNet,” she said as she crossed her arms across her chest and took a calming breath, “Or I can just fine you for the damages. Your choice,” she said as she glared at him coldly.

“OK! OK! I’ll fix it.” Bass said as he waved his hands in front of himself. Mainly because I’m broke. No thanks to Megaman, he thought to himself.

“NOW!!” Serenade shouted at him while pointing at the mess he’d made. Bass hung his head as he floated his way over to the mess and started to repair it.

“Stupid Wench. Always bossing me around. If I had the brat’s NetPower, I’d show her a thing or two,” Bass mumbled as he worked on repairing the mess he’d created.

“Quit mumbling over there and get to work!”

“My lady. I have urgent news,” a silver and black clad female navi said as she kneeled before Serenade.

“Yes, Blade. What is it?” Serenade said, giving her lieutenant her full attention.

Blade raised her head while still kneeling, “The last sign of Alpha has appeared in the sky over NetCity.”

“What color is it?” Serenade asked out of curiosity.

“Aurora White. The color of the lost element, my lady.”

Serenade was shocked to hear this, Alpha has been deleted! The NetAngel is pure! “Thank you Blade. That is great news. You are dismissed,” she said, waving her hand.

“You’re welcome my lady,” Blade said as she lowered her head again and logged out of Serenade’s presence.

Bass you lucky devil! You survived the blow of Excalibur twice. No wonder you were angry. Unless you tried to take the NetAngel’s NetPower away. Or is it something else you seek that she has, but you couldn’t get at it? Serenade thought as she got an idea, Couldn’t be that! Hum… I’ll just have to wait and see for myself, Serenade thought as she watched Bass repairing his mess and mumbling obscenities aimed at her.

Lyne: Mmm, yeah! The curry at that shop was really good. Let’s go.
Lan: Alright! *They start to the front door.* So, what else can you do as a navi anyway?
Lyne: I’d tell you, but we’re out of time. We’ll just have to see next time on Lan and Lyne, Episode 11: Mall Trip. Ready for a bike ride Lan?
Lan: *Pauses at door. Remembers last time on the motorcycle.* Well, I think I’d feel safer in the hovervan actually.
Lyne: I’ll pay for your first bowl.
Lan: *Drags Lyne to the motorcycle.* That’s worth any danger. FREE FOOD!!

Hi. I'm new to this fic, so I'll say my two cents.

I have read the first two chapters, and I must say this is good. Quite good. Your descriptions of the scenes are nothing short of excellent, and the characters are quite well done. I must say, I found Lyne to be quite a surprise...

Oh well, I guess I can comment more when I finish the next few chapters. This is good. Possibly rivaling AMZ's work...?

Episode 11: Mall Trip

~Hikari Home~26 Aug 200X~

There were loud noises coming from upstairs this morning. Lyne was searching through her room frantically for her backpack, but she couldn’t find it. She looked under her bed, on the computer desk, in her closet, in her dresser drawers, and in her bathroom.

“Man where did it go? Jackie will be over here any second. Lan have you seen my backpack?” Lyne called down the hall.

Lan walked sleepily up the hall from his room and entered hers to answer her question. He couldn’t even answer due to what he saw, and was overcome with laughter.

Lyne puffed her cheeks in anger, “What’s so funny?”

Lan tried to keep a straight face to try and answer her second question, but instead fell to the floor with a thud and continued to laugh. This sound caught Raika’s attention and brought him out of the guest room to investigate. He noticed Lan on the floor in front of Lyne’s room.

Wonder what’s going on? he thought as he peeked into Lyne’s room.

Lyne noticed him as he popped his head in, “Hi Raika! Have you seen my backpack? Lan won’t tell me where it is,” Lyne asked with a pouting look on her face.

Raika looked at Lyne, realizing what Lan was laughing at, “Oy Lyne, you’re already wearing it,” he said as he leaned against her door post, covering his face with his free hand, “You forgot again.”

Lyne looked into the full length mirror that hung on the front of her bathroom door and noticed what her friend was talking about. She was wearing her digital armor, “Oops, I guess I did. I guess I forgot to deactivate it after I logged out of NetCity last night. Heh, Heh,” Lyne said as she rubbed the back of her helmet, “This armor is just too comfortable to tell it’s even on. Armor Program deactivate,” Lyne said as her armor disappeared and exposed the PJs she had worn the night before.

“Oh man! Now I have to change! I’m going to be so late!” Lyne said as she walked up to her bedroom door, “Out, both of you!” she exclaimed as she pushed both Lan and Raika out of her doorway and closed it behind her.

Both of them stood outside her door, dumbstruck, “Um… Lan where did Lyne go last night again?”

“To NetCity with Mega and Roll. She was all over the place. Mega and Roll had a hard time keeping up with her too,” he said as he scratched the top of his head.

“I bet. That was probably her first time in NetCity. I would be excited too if I was her,” Raika said.

“Yup. First time little Bro,” Lyne said, walking out of her room in her usual clothes with her backpack slung on her shoulder. As she walked passed Lan, she mussed up his hair playfully.

“Hey!” Lan complained, “I’m going to visit Mayl today,” he said as he tried to fix his hair.

“Relax Lan your hair always looks messed up, so not like she’s going to know the difference,” Raika said in a reasonable tone. Lyne laughed musically at that.

“I’ll see you guys later,” Lyne said to them, “Jackie’s downstairs waiting.”

“How’d you know that already?” Raika asked, confused.

“She e-mailed me of course you silly!” Lyne stated as she walked down the stairs leaving them behind, “Have a good time with Mayl today Lan.”

“She can still get e-mail without a PET!” Raika exclaimed in shock.

“Yeah we found out last night,” Lan said with a slight blush. Something about the way Lyne said to have a good day sounded… suggestive? “Flashman e-mailed her about Lyne and Jackie’s Dentech Mall trip today. I really think it’s cool that she can still get e-mail.”

“So who’s escorting Lyne to the mall?”

“Jackie is!” Lan said with a smile on his face.

“Jackie’s escorting Lyne! Dr. Hikari!” Raika shouted, not pleased to hear this.

“I’m downstairs. What is it?” Yuu replied as Raika hauled tail downstairs to talk to him.

A little winded after running down the stairs to the kitchen, Raika managed to say, “Lyne… huff, huff, is going to the mall without an escort.”

“No she’s not. Jackie is her escort today. This is to give her a break from you guys. Call it a girls’ day out,” Yuu said as he lowered the newspaper he was reading.

“But…….” Raika protested.

“Lyne earned it. Her behavior last night in NetCity was exceptional. I think one day with her friend at the mall isn’t too much to ask for, is it?”

“No sir,” Raika said as he relaxed his shoulders and settled into a posture of defeat.

“Besides, Famous is keeping an eye on them. He rigged Lyne’s backpack with a tracking device. If she gets in trouble, he’ll let you know. Now relax and get some of your leave time in,” Yuu said as he then lifted up his paper and started reading again.

Raika sighed and turned around to go upstairs when Yuu said, “Oh, and Raika.” Raika turned to see Yuu glancing at him from behind the paper. “You might consider using your day off to get some exercise. You seemed a little winded from running down the staircase for someone in the military.” Then Yuu’s face disappeared back behind the paper as Raika turned back to the stairs with a slightly warm face.

“You sure Lyne will be OK, Dad?” Hub asked from his PET.

“I’m sure. Go hang out with Roll and Mayl you two. Famous will e-mail you if there’s any trouble,” Yuu said as he waved his hand at them to shoo them away.

“OK, Dad!” Lan said as he headed out the door. Once he got outside he saw Jackie and Lyne standing by Lyne’s bike.

“Are you sure Lyne? I’m taller and heavier then you,” Jackie asked Lyne.

“I’m sure. I’ve driven my bike with Lan’s friend Dex on the back, and he’s way heavier than you. Oh and I’m going to need to borrow your PET for the trip.”

“What happened to yours?!” Jackie exclaimed.

“Long story. I’ll fill you in when we get to the mall.”

“Hey Jackie! How are you and Flash doing?” Lan asked as he walked up to them.

“I’m fine, and he’s ornery as ever. How are you and Megaman?” Jackie replied to Lan’s greeting.

“Hey, I resent that!” Flash exclaimed from his PET.

“You always do,” Jackie said back to him, shutting him up.

“We’re doing good. We’re going to go see Mayl and Roll actually since Dad said Lyne doesn’t need an escort to the mall,” Lan said as he rubbed the back of his head.

Lyne gave him an angry glare that said ‘shut up’. Lan backed off a little, “Well I’ll be going. Bye!” Lan said as he ran next door.

“Bye Lan!” Jackie called after him, “I guess you’re going to explain the escort thing too,” she said as she looked back at Lyne.

“Uh….” Lyne scratched the side of he face, Lan, you say too much sometimes. “Yeah, I guess so. Shall we go then?”

“Yeah. Here you go Lyne. Don’t hurt him, OK?” Jackie said as she surrendered her PET to Lyne and then put on the extra helmet.

“I won’t. He’s just going to help me navigate, that’s all,” Lyne replied as she placed Jackie’s PET into her bike’s PET slot. She then put on her helmet and mounted her bike. Jackie got on the back of the bike as Lyne started up its engine, and then hooked up her helmet to Jackie’s PET and set up a private radio channel.

“Flash can you hear me?”

“Loud and clear Purple Girl!” Flash said as he came up on her helmet display giving her a thumbs-up.

You didn’t tell Jackie about what happened to me, did you? Lyne thought angrily to him.

“Nope. I just told her you were fine. That’s all she wanted to know. Best leave the telling to you. You know, since it happened to you, not me,” Flash replied as he sweat-dropped at Lyne’s tone.

Don’t remind me, Lyne thought as she backed her bike out of the driveway with ease, I’m sending the directions to the mall I downloaded last night. I need you to guide me from the other side of the Dentech Bridge to the mall.

“If you downloaded them last night, why don’t you drive and read them at the same time? You are a navi,” Flash said as he crossed his arms and held his head up high.

Only half, Flash. Besides, if I read them, that would take my eyes off the road, causing an accident, and that would mean……

“Jackie would get hurt. I see. Sorry for misjudging your decision Purple Girl. Let’s get this show on the road,” Flash said as he stretched his arms out, cracking his knuckles.

Lyne rolled her eyes in response as she drove out of her neighborhood, sending Flash the directions at the same time.

Back at the Hikari House, Raika was watching Lyne leave through the guest room window.

“*Sigh* What am I going to do?” he said as he turned away from the window and sat down in one of the chairs by the window.

“You can: 1) Follow her to the mall, 2) Go over to IPC, or 3) Play that game of yours. There’s nobody stopping you from beating the final boss this time.”

Raika got up from where he sat and found his GBQS, “You’re right Searchman. I haven’t played since last week,” he said as he returned to his seat and turned it on, “Why don’t you go to IPC? I’ll join you later,” he said, having his full attention on playing his game.

I lost him, *Sigh* Well, whatever, “Yes Sir! Combit you coming?” Searchman asked as he created a NP going to Famous’s Console at IPC.

“Yes Searchy,” she called after him as he entered it and she followed in suit.

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. A PET sounded off.

“Sir, you have an e-mail from your friend, Ken,” a navi with dark-blue hair, brown eyes, wearing a tan trench coat, and a black cowboy-like hat said.

“Bring it up Sonata. I didn’t think he’d reply so soon,” a brunette teenager with dark brown eyes, wearing glasses, black cargo pants, blue t-shirt, with a white, polo, long-sleeve shirt over the top of the t-shirt, black tennis shoes, and wearing a shell necklace around his neck.

“Yes DJ,” Sonata replied as he brought it up for his NetOp to read.

I agree with you on the terms of the meeting. The place will be the Dentech Mall at the time we agreed upon. Please, do try to be on time. I also have a message for your eyes only from our team commander, Nina.

“OK then. Let’s go Sonata, or we’ll be late for our meeting with Ken,” DJ said as he left his hideout for the Dentech Mall.

When Searchman and Combit got to the other side of the NP, they saw a female navi talking with Famous.

“Please, I just want to meet her,” she pleaded, “You know how long I’ve been waiting for this to happen.”

“Yes, I do Serenade, but the decision is up to her father. He doesn’t want her getting involved with the net just yet,” Famous replied to her plea.

“And you stand by this decision of Dr. Hikari’s,” she said as she crossed her arms across her chest. Famous nodded in response, “Poppycock. You do not!” she said as she angrily pointed at Famous.

“Hey! If I wasn’t keeping an eye on her today, I wouldn’t. I want Lyne to start learning more about what she has become as much as you do, and learning more about the net from the standpoint of a navi.”

Serenade nodded in agreement, “I understand what you mean, Famous, but if she doesn’t start now, she’ll get into a lot of trouble.”

“I know,” Famous agreed with what she said, “She’s going to the Dentech Mall today. So you can observe her from there if you would like, but don’t tell her father I told you where she is. OK Serenade?”

Serenade jumped up and down in joy as her pink scarves spun around her, “OK, I’m going to watch her right now.”

“Before you do, how is Bass doing?”

“Oh, you mean that little terror you sent down to my UnderNet last week?” Serenade said in an angry tone and glared at Famous.

Famous sweat-dropped, “How’d you find that out?”

“I have my ways. He’s busy repairing the destruction he had caused. At least, that was what he was doing when I last saw him.”

“Ha ha, That’s funny. How’d you manage that?”

“I threatened him with a fine. That usually gets him to do what I want. Besides, he was in bad shape, so knowing him, he’d take advantage of the computer bugs in the system to restore himself. Keeping my UnderNet clean in a sense.”

“My my, aren’t you clever? Anyway, it’s good to know he’s occupied with that and won’t be bothering Lyne today. Plus, we have his robot body. We found it in the park last week, so we know that he can’t use it either. Lyne is free to be herself today.”

BE DE BEP BEEP, a noise went off on the console.

“And she’s arrived. I suggest you hurry or you’ll miss her, your highness.”

“OK, and remember Famous; no formalities between friends. See ya!” Serenade said, using his line against him as she logged off of Famous’s IPC console.

Famous then turned his attention to his other guests, “Thank you for waiting, Searchman, Combit. How can I help you?”

“Oh, we’re here to help keep an eye on Lyne,” Searchman replied.

“Well it’s not an easy job for one person. I almost fell asleep twice before Serenade came to visit.”

“That was Serenade, Queen of the UnderNet! WOW!! I didn’t know that you knew royalty, Famous,” Combit exclaimed excitedly.

“Heh heh, I gladly accept your help. Just keep an eye on the tracker while I check out the research I’ve collected on Bass’s robot body so far,” Famous said as he pulled out a thick report.

“Yes, Sir!” Searchman said as he took watch over the tracing device that was keeping track of Lyne’s location.

~Dentech Mall~

Lyne and Jackie were dismounting Lyne’s bike after about 15 minutes of trying to find a parking spot.

“Man that took forever, but we’re finally here,” Lyne said as she took off her helmet, placed it on the driver seat, and ran her fingers through her hair.

“You can say that again. You were starting to getting pissed at the cars taking the other open spots,” Jackie said, doing the same, although she brushed her hair with her hairbrush.

“At least I found one in the parking garage. I’d hate to park out in the main parking area. See!” Lyne exclaimed as she pointed at the main parking area of the mall with a look of horror on her face, “We’d get lost trying to find my bike in that mess,” Lyne then took Jackie’s PET from her bike and handed it back to her.

“Never mind that let’s go shopping!” Jackie said as she grabbed Lyne’s hand and led her over to the hallway that connected the mall to the parking garage. Once they entered the mall, Jackie let go of Lyne’s hand, “Where do we want to go first?”

Lyne’s stomach growled loudly, “Heh heh, I guess the trip took longer than I thought.”

“Well then, let’s go to the food court. You did say you had something to tell me when we got here. Plus, the bathrooms are down there and I have to go,” Jackie said as she led the way to the food court, running as fast as she could, with Lyne easily following close behind her.

Elsewhere in the mall, DJ was looking for his contact, Ken. It didn’t take him long before he found him, surrounded by a group of teenage girls and flirting with them.

“So that’s why he wanted to meet here. So he can get some girl action,” DJ commented.

“Doesn’t he always do that?” Sonata asked.

“Yeah. Well that’s Ken for you. At least Kid isn’t as good as he is.”

“Right. Maybe we should let him know we’re here.”

“Yo, Ken. Wassup?” DJ shouted to get his friend’s attention as he approached him.

The group of teenage girls hanging around the very attractive, black haired, blue eyed teenager quickly disappeared as DJ continued to approach. When DJ finally got to Ken, he noticed him sulking.

Ken looked at his watch, “You had to show up on time this time, didn’t you?” he said, saddened by the loss of the pretty girls.

“You said to not be late in your e-mail. Besides, you have a note for me from Nina, right? Can I see it?”

“Here you go,” Ken said as he handed over the note that had the words Official NetAgent Information for DJ’s eye’s only. DJ opened the note.

__It Read__

DJ for your eye’s only,
It has been about 3 months since the accident you were involved in, and all of my investigations point towards the Zodiac organization being the culprit in the cause of the accident. We have no physical proof that they have come back online, but have found traces of the organization’s navis on the net in the past week and their activity is increasing. Please be careful. We need you to secretly work with the team on this one to bring this organization down. You are our main witness to the crime they committed to you. Since you are back in the Dentech area, I’ll ask you not to use your powers in public to not draw attention to yourself. We’ve been doing research on this end and found out you do emit a tracking signal when you Cross Fuse. It was probably originally for your protection, but the other NetAgent team that is after you has a copy of the signal and can track you down. If you need to keep in contact with the team, Ken will be your point of contact. This is all for now. Keep on the lookout DJ.

DJ put the note in his pocket.

“Has it really been three months since the accident?”

“Yep. The team misses you too DJ. I’m surprised that the other teams haven’t found out we’re helping you out.”

“Let’s hope that stays that way,” DJ said as he crossed his arms and rested on the railing over-looking the Food Court.

“Let’s not sound so sad about it. We’re at the mall and there are a lot of pretty girls our age hanging out. And, I might add, one week before returning to sophomore year,” Ken said as he nudged his friend with his elbow.

“Is that all you think about? Last mission we were on, I was fighting the bad guys while you were sweeping girls off their feet.”

“Oh, that was London, my home town. You’re not still mad at me for that mission, are you?”

DJ glared at him coldly, “You know, you’re the only Filipino I’ve met that was raised in the British Isles, and I’d like to keep it that way. You Bond wannabe.”

“So what? I’m one of a kind when it comes to girls. Ooooo look at what has just arrived *wolf whistle* bombshells,” Ken said, changing the subject as he noticed two girls enter the food court.

Once Jackie and Lyne got to the food court, Jackie handed Lyne her PET, “Can you watch him while I’m gone Lyne?” Lyne looked at Jackie, confused, as she noticed Flash streaming twin waterfalls from his eyes, “He’s to keep you company while I’m gone, OK?” Lyne nodded in understanding as she took Jackie’s PET. Jackie then bolted off in the direction of the bathrooms.

Lyne sat down at one of the empty tables and propped up Jackie’s PET.

“So how are you holding up Purple Girl?” Flash asked out of boredom.

“OK, I guess. Can’t you do better then ‘Purple Girl’?” Lyne asked, embarrassing him. This earned her a few moments quiet time while Flash thought of a new nickname for her.

“I know! You were in America for a while. How about Gaijin?” Flash asked winking one eye and holding his thumb up. Lyne replied by reaching her hand out and placing her finger gently on the top of his PET, and then roughly slamming it face down. “Ow!! Lyne that hurt!” Flash complained with a tone of pain.

Lyne quickly propped his PET upright once more, “I’m sorry Flash. I didn’t mean to do that. I’m just a little edgy right now.”

“That’s OK, Lyne. You’re not the first to not want to be called by one of my nicknames. When I worked with Bass and my old boss, Shademan, I got beat up whenever I called them by a nickname. So don’t sweat it,” Flash said as he rubbed the back of his helmet.

Lyne placed her left hand on her chin, Why am I so edgy today though? she thought to herself in question as she noticed a flashing, purple spot that was fading in and out on the back of her right hand, What’s going on? I’ve never done this before, she thought as she looked at her hand in shock.

“What’s wrong Lyne?” Flash asked as he noticed the look of distress and shock on her face.

Lyne quickly covered her hand, “Um…” How am I supposed to know? Lyne thought to herself as she rubbed her hand while looking for a place to hide.

“Lyne?” Now she’s not answering to her real name. What gives? Flash thought as Lyne finally found a hiding spot.

“Um… I’m going into that private chat room over there. I’ll be back in a minute or two,” Lyne said, leaving Flash at the table

“Lyne, wait! Don’t leave me… Alone!” Flash cried out as she ran off. Lyne continued to run towards the private chat room, paying his plea no mind, and entered it, shutting the door behind her. All the windows were covered, which gave Lyne a very safe feeling that nobody was watching her. She then activated her digital armor and brought up her program directory.

“That’s odd. I just picked up an unusual signal,” Sonata commented from his PET.

“Really? Where is it coming from?” DJ asked out of curiosity.

“The private chat room below us,” Sonata gestured by pointing downwards.

“I just saw a girl enter there. I wonder what’s going on. I’m going to investigate the signal Ken. I’ll contact you later to report what I found and to check up the investigation. Bye,” DJ said as he jumped over the balcony and landed behind the private chat room.

“You be careful DJ, and don’t get caught by NetAgent Group 000,” Ken called down to him.

“I promise, I won’t,” DJ called back to his friend, who faded away from the balcony as if he were a shadow. DJ brought out a thick glass from his backpack and put it up against the back of the chat room to listen to what was going on inside.

“Going a little low tech, are we?” Sonata said, trying to be smart.

“Sush, I hear something,” DJ scolded him as he placed his ear against the bottom of the glass.

At the same time, Jackie walked up to the table where Lyne had abandoned her PET, “Where’s Lyne?”

“She left me and went inside that private chat room,” Flash said as he pointed in the direction Lyne ran off, “I think something’s wrong.”

Jackie acted upon these words and walked up to the private chat room Flash had pointed to. She then knocked on the door, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, “Lyne come out. I know you’re in there.”

Lyne had been going over her program directory to find out what was wrong with her hand when she realized that she had been caught by her best friend, “NO!” she called back to Jackie who was on the other side.

“Then I’m coming in there,” Jackie said as she started to open the door.

Lyne leaned up against the door to prevent her friend from entering as Jackie turned the door knob, “You can’t come in. I’m doing something private. It’s kinda’ embarrassing.”

“What’s so private you can keep it from your BF?” Jackie said as she overpowered Lyne, pushing open the door. Lyne then hid behind the open door as Jackie stepped inside. Jackie tried to close the door behind her and noticed that it wouldn’t budge. She peeked around the other side of the door to see Lyne in her digital armor. Jackie laughed as she pried Lyne’s hands from the door knob and shut the door, “Cross Fusion isn’t embarrassing Lyne. So this is what you wanted to tell me?”

Interesting, another Cross Fuser, DJ thought as he listened in on the conversation.

Lyne slumped down to the floor and hid her face in her knees, “I’m not Cross Fused. I’m a Half Navi.”

A Half Navi. What’s that? This is odd indeed, DJ thought.

Jackie sat down in the chair that was inside the chat room, “A Half Navi. I didn’t think that was possible. Well, not at least for about another ten years,” she said as she got up and walked over to her friend, forcing Lyne to stand up so Jackie could look at her more closely. “I should have noticed before when I first saw you. Pretty much what my programming had predicted. Can you get e-mail, send e-mail, and jump onto the net?” Jackie asked excitedly. Lyne shuffled her feet, a little embarrassed that Jackie guessed at some of what she was able to do so far. Jackie then grabbed her PET, typed a short e-mail, and sent it to Lyne’s IP address.

Jump on the Net?! Get e-mail?! This just keeps getting more and more interesting.

A small window appeared practically in front of Lyne’s face. Lyne closed the window as Jackie jumped excitedly at what she saw, “Jackie, please don’t start experimenting with me. You’re going to get me in trouble. You remind me of Mr. Famous sometimes,” Lyne said as she crossed her arms across her chest.

“I just got a great, awesome idea,” Jackie said, ignoring Lyne, “Do you know what this is?” she said as she held up a chip. Flash had really big starry eyes as he watched Jackie hold it.

“Yeah, that’s a Syncro Chip. Lan and Chaud have one. It’s used for Cross Fusion. How long have you had that?” Lyne said as she recognized it.

Is she talking about Japan’s top NetSaviors, Lan Hikari and Chaud Blaze? How does she know them?

“Correct, and about a month. Syncro Chip in, download,” Jackie said as she placed it into her PET.

“Cross Fusion,” Jackie and Flash said in unison. Lyne was now curious as to what Jackie had in mind. Jackie was then engulfed in a bright light. When the light dissipated Jackie looked like a more feminine version of her navi. Her hair was still in a long black ponytail, but her platinum streaks turned electric yellow. She also had his navi icon in the middle of her chest armor, yellow stripes that went diagonally across her thighs, and didn’t have his face mask so her nose and mouth were both visible.

“Wow! Jackie is this your first time?” Lyne asked, surprised at what she saw.

Jackie shook her head in response, “I’ve done it a couple of times, but only to practice,” she said as she grabbed Lyne’s hand. Lyne took it away as quickly as Jackie had grabbed it.

“What are you up to Jackie?”

“Don’t you want to check out the Mall Server? I sure do,” Jackie said, trying to see if Lyne had the same urges as a navi. She noticed Lyne trying to fight the urge that she had just challenged, “We can do online shopping and other stuff. Plus, the Mall Server is a part of NetCity, right? So we can go exploring,” Jackie said, pushing the urge over the edge as she noticed Lyne give in and grab her hand, “Now just jack in,” Jackie calmly told Lyne. Lyne complied as she touched the jack in port on the chat room computer.

She then scanned Jackie to see what name had been given to her Cross Fused form and then called out, “Megawoman, FlashJackie, Jack In. Whatever you do don’t let go of my hand in the Data Stream,” Lyne said as they both digitized and entered the Mall Server through the jack in port.

“Wow that’s neat! Sonata I’m going to jack you in to follow them,” DJ said after he didn’t hear any more noise coming from the chat room.

“DJ, you know I can’t handle talking to girls very well,” Sonata complained to his NetOp about his task.

“Who said you were going to talk to them? I want you to observe them. Sonata, Jack In,” DJ said as he jacked his navi into one of the ports located at the back of the chat room.

Meanwhile, back at IPC, Famous’s console went haywire.

“What happened to the signal Searchman?” Famous asked him, looking up from his research.

“I think Lyne may have jumped onto the net by herself,” Searchman replied to the scientist’s question.

“Scan to see if she is by herself before we decide to blow the whistle on her.”

“Yes sir. Scanning…… She’s with Flashman I think, but he looks a little feminine.”

“Oh, she’s still with Jackie. I wonder how she managed to bring Jackie with her? Unless Jackie has a Syncro Chip and Cross Fused before the Jump. Hmm, interesting. Tell me if she leaves the Mall Server. I hope Jackie can handle her if she gets a little out of hand.”

“Me too,” Searchman said, concerned.

Jackie: OK, but still, why ask me?
DJ: Uh, fan characters should stick together?
Ken: *Draping arm over Jackie’s shoulder.* I think he’s just trying to chat you up love.
DJ: *Blushing and waving his hands in front of his face.* No, I… Uh, I was just wondering… what she figured the fans would want.
Jackie: *Also blushing.* Well, I don’t know. Maybe something from the official story.
Ken: Like what? *Smiles, looking at Jackie.*
Jakie: I don’t know. Raika maybe?
Ken: Ah, but he’s alre-
Author: YO KEN! How about helping with the setup here since you’ve got nothing better to do!
Ken: Er, right ma’am. *Walks off, hanging his head.*
Jackie: Whew, that’s a relief. *Fans her face with her script.*
Ken: Um, is that the one for the next chapter?
Jackie: Yeah. Oh! I can check what’s happening next. *Starts flipping through the script.* Ah, here. This must be what the fans asked for. Next chapter, we see-
Author: Hey! You two need to help too.
DJ: Huh. I thought she said it was break time.
Jackie: Oh well. Next time on Lan and Lyne, Episode 12: Mall Server.

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad to see new readiers of mine and Zodiac's fict. I think it's alot better then the original version. And Zodiac was right the first chapters were kinda lacking on information and conformity to the later chapters, so we decided to update it to make it sound and be understood better by the fans. Whoa. A lot of chapter 11 felt all-new. Especially the part when both Lyne and FlashJackie (R-Flashman? ) jumped into the net, that I definitely don't remember. Unless my memory is really that bad.... :grr:

Anyway, I think I'm looking forward to chapter 12 a lot.
