CHAPTER 3-37
Devil of Darkness

After the events that had happened at SciLab, everyone returned to battling their way through the Battle Network tournament. Since Yai had been eliminated on the first day, she decided to do some shopping while everyone else went out to win more Battle Points and rare chips.

“We meet back here for dinner,” Chaud instructed and everyone nodded in agreement, “Dismissed.” Everyone then dispersed and went out of search for their first opponents of the day.

* * *

Jerrod Sib, a recent graduate from Den University, slotted in another chip and watched as his Navi, BrotherMan, summoned another Navi to the field to attack his opponent.

“Navi chips are my specialty,” the woman facing Jerrod said, “DevilMan, you know what to do.” Inside the battle grid, DevilMan bared his claws and ran them through the summoned Navi, deleting it instantly.

“Satan Skull!” The dark Navi formed a flaming horned skull in his hands and threw it at BrotherMan, striking him in the chest. He then grabbed his head in his large and squeezed until he logged out.

“That’s very good, DevilMan. Well done.” Lucy then walked over to her opponent and held out her hand, receiving a V5 chip of the Navi she had just defeated. Once she had obtained her winnings, she left and went off in search of another opponent.

* * *

A Sonic Boom shot across the battle grid and sliced off a red Navi’s right arm. It stumbled back a bit before logging out. ProtoMan rose into an upright stance and changed his VariableSword back into his hand.

“That’s another one down.” Ten Battle Points disappeared from his opponent’s counter and they were added to Chaud’s score.

“Well fought, ProtoMan.” Chaud logged out his Navi and received a JusticeOne chip from his opponent before he left.

“We’ve successfully collected a total of fifty-seven Battle Points, Chaud,” ProtoMan notified his operator, “That last battle gave us a big boost.”

“All because our opponent liked taking big risks. Come on.” Chaud put his PET and his new chip away and walked down the street.

* * *

Lucy kept her winning streak going and she kept getting more and more Navi chips to add to her folder.

“Soon, I’ll have enough Navi chips to raise an army,” she laughed.

“And once we do, the Dark Nation will once again rise to its former glory!” DevilMan cheered.

“We must get more. Come, DevilMan. We have to find a powerful Navi.”

“Let me check for anyone within range.” DevilMan opened up a window and started searching the area for anyone with a Battle Point chip signal. He found several and began to scroll through each one. Not one of them seemed to interest him. Finally, he came to the last one and his eyes lit up.

“Lucy, I have a target,” he reported, “Go north.”

“Okay.” Lucy turned towards the direction her Navi had instructed and walked forward. After a few minutes, she finally saw Chaud approaching her. He recognized her immediately and the two of them stopped in front of one another.

“Lucy FerSatan, former Dark Nation agent.”

“Chaud, Official NetBattler.”

“I’m surprised you’d show yourself after breaking out of prison.”

“We’re rebuilding the Dark Nation and no one is going to stop us.”

“I’ll stop you and we’ll stop your associates, as well.”

“So are you challenging me?”

“You better believe it. Jack in!! ProtoMan, power up!”

“Jack in!! DevilMan, power up!”

Two beams met halfway and a battle grid was formed. ProtoMan appeared on the red half of the field and DevilMan landed on the blue half.

“Battle Point chip in, download!” Chaud and Lucy slotted in their Battle Point chips and their counters appeared overhead.

“I have fifty-seven Battle Points,” Chaud announced.

“Is that all? I have sixty-five,” Lucy replied.

“Fine. I’ll wager eighteen Battle Points. Whatever it takes to keep you from winning.”

“We won’t hold back, either,” Lucy assured the Official NetBattler.

“ProtoMan! Battle routine, set!”

“Execute!”

BATTLE START

“Satan Skull!” A flaming horned skull appeared in DevilMan’s hand and he threw it at his opponent. ProtoMan quickly morphed his hand into his sword and swung. His blade cut through the skull and split it into two pieces.

“Hell Fire!” DevilMan’s hands flared up and he started launching fireballs at the silver-haired Navi. ProtoMan dashed to the side to avoid the bombardment as he tried to get behind the dark Navi. While this was happening, Lucy pulled back her dress, reached down for her garter, and pulled out a chip.

“StoneMan3 Battlechip in, download!” DevilMan ceased his attack and held out his hands as a StoneMan clone appeared before him. It slammed its hands down on the floor and large boulders began to drop from above. ProtoMan saw them coming and performed several evasive maneuvers to avoid getting hit.

“StepSword Battlechip in, download!” Chaud sent in one of his chips and ProtoMan’s colors inverted as he dashed at DevilMan and slashed him as he passed.

“You hit me, but that won’t be enough,” he growled as his StoneMan clone disappeared.

“This battle has only just begun,” ProtoMan said emotionlessly.

“Perhaps you’d like some more,” DevilMan laughed. Lucy sent him SparkManDS and BeastManV4. The two respective Navi clones appeared and unleashed their respective attacks at the scarlet swordsman.

“Shield, then double attack,” Chaud ordered as he slotted in a TwinFang3. ProtoMan enlarged his shield and held it out in front of him. He successfully blocked the attacks and quickly shot two fangs back at them. His projectiles struck the clones and deleted them.

“ElementDark Battlechip in, download!” DevilMan held out his hand a stream of black fire shot out from his palm. ProtoMan dashed away and the attack missed. However, it left behind an entire line of poison panels.

“Quickly, ProtoMan! Strike back now!” Chaud commanded. ProtoMan said nothing as he did as he was told and turned around before dashing towards DevilMan.

“You seem to have forgotten DevilMan’s other ability,” Lucy said to her opponent, “Perhaps this will refresh your memory. DarkWide Battlechip in, download!” As ProtoMan continued on his path, DevilMan’s hand transformed into a dark purple wide shooter and he fired a black WideShot at him. His attack connected and the swordsman was knocked away.

“I forgot that DevilMan is immune to the harmful side effects of Dark Chips,” Chaud muttered.

“What I want to know is WHY he’s immune,” came ProtoMan’s response.

“Do you really want to know DevilMan’s origin?” Lucy asked. Chaud just gave her a long cold glare.

“DevilMan’s body is actually composed of Dark Chip data,” the devil woman announced, “He could even be considered to be the first of a new generation of Darkloids.”

“New generation Darkloid?” Chaud repeated, shocked, “ProtoMan, we can’t let them get away. They MUST be defeated.”

“I’m on it, Chaud,” ProtoMan replied. His operator slotted in a CustomSword, which replaced his current weapon, and he leapt at the dark NetNavi.

“Don’t worry, DevilMan,” Lucy assured her Navi.

“I’m not worried,” DevilMan replied.

“He can’t defeat us with our power.”

“Did I say I was worried?” Suddenly, ProtoMan ran his blade through his opponent and DevilMan gasped.

“Maybe if you actually paid attention you wouldn’t have to worry,” he muttered.

“You got lucky,” growled DevilMan, “Devil Claw!” He swung out with his arms, but ProtoMan ducked and then backflipped away.

“Bad move. DarkCannon Battlechip in, download!” DevilMan’s hand changed into a black cannon and he fired at ProtoMan while he was still in the air. The blast struck his chest and knocked him away.

“ShadeManDS Battlechip in, download!” DevilMan held out his arms and a ShadeMan clone appeared and unleashed a devastating Crush Noise. ProtoMan dove to the side and the sonic blast struck the wall.

“DarkLance Battlechip in, download!” Lucy inserted another Dark Chip into her PET and black bamboo spears shot out of the floor from underneath ProtoMan. The red-armored Navi moved quickly across the field to avoid getting skewered. He was successful in doing so, however one spear shot up in front of him and he promptly crashed into it.

“Don’t think you can win this battle,” DevilMan cautioned with a sadistic tone in his voice, “I don’t just plan to win; I intend to delete you, as well.”

“Just try it,” ProtoMan replied as he peeled himself off from the DarkLance.

“I was hoping you’d say that.”

“DarkStage Battlechip in, download!” DevilMan planted his hands against the floor and several holes surrounded him while the rest of the battle grid became riddled with poison panels.

“Chaud, he’s changed the field!” ProtoMan exclaimed.

“I’m aware of that, ProtoMan. Don’t give in,” the skunk-haired operator answered.

“DarkVulcan!” DevilMan’s hand transformed into a black chain gun as soon as his PET registered the chip and he started firing at his opponent.

“RockCube, AirSword Battlechips in, download!” Chaud slotted in one of his own chips and a stone Rubik’s Cube materialized in front of ProtoMan, which blocked the bullets for him. As he laid low, his weapon changed into a sword with a gust of wind blowing around the blade. He swung his weapon at the RockCube and a blast of wind pushed it forward. DevilMan was too preoccupied with shooting his opponent that he was unable to dodge the rock and it hit him squarely on the chest.

“A minor setback,” he mumbled.

“Here, DevilMan. These should help.” Lucy slipped a Static and a BlackWing chip into her PET and watched as DevilMan’s hand changed from a DarkVulcan into a fan and he blew several whirlwinds at ProtoMan, which encircled and trapped him between their blustery might. The dark Navi then spread out his arms and a flock of bats ripped out from his chest and flew towards the silver-haired warrior. They broke through the cyclonic wall and bit him countless times.

“MoonBlade3 Battlechip in, download!” A kunai appeared in ProtoMan’s free hand and he spun around and used it to slash everything around him. The bats dropped to the floor like dead flies and were instantly deleted. He then spun in the opposite direction that the wind was blowing in and dissipated his opponent’s snare.

“BurnerManDS Battlechip in, download!” A dark version of BurnerMan materialized onto the field and launched a deadly Strike Burner at ProtoMan. The Net Savior jumped over the flames and slashed at the summoned Navi as he returned to the floor, deleting it.

“Impressive,” DevilMan mused, “However, you’ve left yourself wide open.” ProtoMan gasped when he realized too late that DevilMan was hovering right over him. He moved to dash away, but his opponent’s claws came down fast and hard. He cried out in pain as they slashed him across the back and he was thrown forward onto his face.

“Now hit him with this DarkDrill, DevilMan,” ordered Lucy as she slotted in her next chip. DevilMan clenched his fist as it transformed into a black drill and he hovered over towards ProtoMan. He raised his arm and thrust the weapon downward. He struck his mark and there was a burst of smoke. He looked down in disbelief at the dummy that was lying there on the floor impaled through the chest with his drill. A shuriken flew down and struck him in the back.

“We slotted in that chip a while back without announcing it,” ProtoMan explained as he reappeared behind DevilMan.

“It will take more than that to defeat us,” Lucy chided, “Anubis Battlechip in, download!” A statue of Anubis dropped onto the field and poisonous gas began to pour out from it.

“Hell Fire!” DevilMan’s hands flared up and he started shooting fireballs at ProtoMan again. However, his effort was countered when Chaud slotted in CurseShield3 and a Dominerd3 blocked his attack and bit him in a counterattack. Enraged, he started picking up various obstacles from the field and throwing them at his opponent, who dodged them with ease.

“Better calm down or you’ll lose,” ProtoMan said smugly. DevilMan picked up the Anubis statue and swung it like a bat at him.

“Poltergeist Battlechip in, download!” Chaud’s PET registered the chip and the Anubis stopped just mere inches away from ProtoMan’s head. It was quickly yanked out of DevilMan’s hands and thrown against his head. The statue shattered and the cloud of poisonous gas died down.

“You really know how to annoy someone, don’t you?” he growled.

“DarkMeteor and DarkThunder Battlechips in, download!” As black meteors rained down from above, DevilMan launched a black ball of electricity that slowly made its way towards the scarlet swordsman.

“Chaud, what now?” ProtoMan inquired of his operator.

“They’re just attacking with their chips,” Chaud thought out loud as he examined the current situation, “They’re relying to heavily on the power of the Dark Chips that DevilMan’s not even bothering to move, let alone attack us himself.”

“So what do you suggest?”

“What about…” Chaud brought a finger underneath his bangs and flipped his hair back.

“Won’t work,” ProtoMan replied, “Might I suggest…” He swept his finger across the side of his helmet.

“Too many projectiles approaching you for that. How about…” Chaud rubbed his thumb across the side of his nose twice.

“That’ll work,” ProtoMan finally agreed. He quickly plunged his sword into the floor and stuck it between two panels. He then pulled back with all his might and the panel came free and it blocked the meteors, creating a massive cloud of smoke as they made impact.

“What are you planning?” demanded Lucy.

“You’ll see,” Chaud replied.

“Fine, then. DevilMan, finish it. DarkSword Battlechip in, download!” DevilMan’s arm transformed into a blood-red blade attached to a black hilt and he stood waiting for ProtoMan. He turned around and swung out, but his blade cut through nothing but air. The red-armored Navi suddenly dropped down behind him and slashed down his back as he fell. DevilMan roared as he turned and slashed.

“Z-Saber Battlechip in, download!” ProtoMan’s sword vanished and a grey hilt appeared in his hand. He pressed the button and a long blade shot out. He quickly raised his new weapon and blocked.

“You actually challenge me to a duel with swords?” the swordsman asked.

“My DarkSword will shatter your Z-Saber!” DevilMan snarled as he pressed his blade harder against his opponent’s.

“Battlechips are not just about power; they’re also about strategy. Master how to wield one and you can use it against anything.”

“Then prove it. Let’s see if your so-called ‘strategy’ can overcome the power of my Dark Chips!”

“With pleasure. Chaud, now!”

“Lance, Yo-yo Battlechips in, download!” A set of bamboo spears shot towards DevilMan from behind and he quickly spread his wings and flew out of the way. As he got away, ProtoMan’s free hand transformed into a yo-yo launcher. He took careful aim and flung the spinning projectile forward. DevilMan moved aside and watched as the yo-yo passed him.

“You missed,” he chortled as he landed back on the floor.

“Don’t be so sure.” ProtoMan smirked as his yo-yo flew towards the bamboo lances and wound itself around one of them until the wire was secure.

“IceLine Battlechip in, download!” Chaud slotted in the chip and a line of ice appeared in front of ProtoMan from beneath his feet. When the Lance started pulling back, it dragged the scarlet swordsman forward.

“Wind Battlechip in, download!” A WindBox appeared behind ProtoMan and it blew a powerful burst of wind at him. The silver-haired Navi detached his yo-yo as the wind pushed against him.

“Slice!” There was a flash as ProtoMan swung his sword and he reappeared behind DevilMan. The dark Navi collapsed onto his knee with one hand held against his side.

“How’s that, DevilMan?”

“I’ll kill you!” DevilMan got back to his feet and stabbed at ProtoMan, but his target vanished from sight. He looked around for him, but found no trace of the Official Navi. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his back as several blades cleaved through it and he collapsed. ProtoMan stood over him looking down at his fallen opponent with two swords replacing his hands and two more on his elbows.

“Bloody Quartet,” he whispered. DevilMan was logged out and Lucy’s sixty-five Battle Points dropped to forty-seven while Chaud’s rose to seventy-five.

“It’s over,” Chaud declared, “I’ve won this battle and the Dark Nation will never rise back to power. Now hand over your chip.” Lucy reluctantly gave up her BugCharge and Chaud took it and left. As she stood there staring at the Net Savior’s back, she swore silently to herself that she and her fellow former agents would ensure the Dark Nation’s return.

Nice chapter and battle AMZ. I noticed that "New Generation Darkloids", replace "Darkloids" with "Reploids", and there's a cameo from X7 or X8. Nice job. ^_^

I don't see how you keep saying that. Nevertheless...

Hmm. The tactic employed in this chapter was actually fairly decent, and merited raising an eyebrow. Other than that, it's like what's been said in those commercials mudslinging Jon Corzine in the race of New Jersey governor--"More of the Same." The rest of combat was bland, and Lucy? Why did she have to pop up? It seemed so...arbitrary.

It's been a while since we've seen both DevilMan and Lucy in the fic. So DevilMan was really made from Dark Chip data? I've always wondered how he didn't go out of control like other navis for when exposed to the Dark Chips. In any case, this is a good chapter and I hope that we get to see more of the former Dark Nation members into the plot. But I really wanted to know more about who originally created DevilMan. Now that would be something that would go in for a few chapters. Well, later!

Maybe I'm looking too hard for these things, but I did notice a couple of points in this chapter that could easily have come from Battle Chip Challenge; including, but not limited to, one of the BCC opponents who declares that he is out to restore the WWW.

Anyways, I found myself wondering how ProtoMan could take that kind of Dark Chip abuse and keep going. Given the power that the Chips show in the Anime and Games, I found it hard to believe that he kept fighting as if he hadn't been damaged the entire time after he received several hits in a row from a Dark Chip

Most of the battle I trudged through, since it was fairly bland. But once in a while it grabbed my attention. One thing I have noticed is that you don't put stock in the flow into your battles, it's always "insert chips, exchange hits, effects, next round" without any regard for the flow or prior events of the fight.

7/10.

That was a nicely written chapter. I actually read through the whole battle; it seemed to keep my attention. I think that that may be a result of the fact the you had so much dialogue and plot melded into it, rather than making it chip, dodge, chip, hit, chip, logout.

Okay. It's futile but I feel the urge to step in.

Okay. First of all, this has gotten to be the most redundant thing I've ever seen. almost every chapter is "Random Navi appears. Challenges Lan and his friends, uses the CoA (Which is basicly the Seal of Oricalcos), he goes craz, gets beaten then killed. Add in a bunch of bad rips from local culture and you have a Grade A recent The College Years chapter. And these rips are getting even more horendous.

Right out of a Star Wars deleted scene.

Look. A reference here and there is okay for fics, but you seem to rely on ripping off other things to make your fic work. The recent chapers have turned into a Stream parody.

I know that it has been said before and that it, like so many other reviews, will have little impact, but I just wanted to agree very strongly with elementalman and encourage you to cut WAY down on the rips and references. One or two is are good, because they make a person so,"Oh, just like in...," but when your readers are thinking,"Wow another rip off of...," then you have probably gone too far.

*Please understand that this was not so apparent in this chapter as it was in others; I just happened to remember that when reading the last post.*

Don't worry; I think we all did. This one could turn out well too, but he is gonna have to give reviewers some feedback or at least take note of them.

CHAPTER 3-38
Changing the Laws

Dr. Newton was the head of the physics department at Den University and he was proud of it. He was a thin man in his late fifties with greying hair and thick-framed glasses. He was proud of his job, having taught at the university for twenty-seven years. Students and faculty liked him. Even those other physics professors who were jealous of his position and popularity at first eventually came to like him, as well.

The head of the physics department was sitting in his office typing away on his computer. He was busy working on his series lectures for the next month. Dr. Newton was so absorbed into his work that he failed to notice a big round shadow pass by on the second computer screen behind him.

“That should do it,” he finally declared as he finished the last of his work, “Maybe I should get some coffee.” He stood up from his chair and made his way to the door, not noticing the fact that the table he had in the center of the room was now flat against the floor. As he placed his hand on the knob, the doorframe suddenly collapsed.

“Oh dear.”

“Geh heh heh heh.” Dr. Newton finally turned to his second computer and saw a large round Navi looking back at him.

“Dr. Newton, I presume?” the Navi asked in a robotic voice.

“Yes, I am he. May I ask whom I am speaking to?” the professor replied.

“I am GravityMan. I have come for your data.”

“May I ask why?”

“So that I may amplify my powers to control gravity.”

“I’m sorry, but gravity is a constant and cannot be manipulated,” Dr. Newton informed the Navi.

“You fail to understand my power,” GravityMan answered monotonously, “Let me demonstrate. Gravity Drive!” Waves of energy shot out of his body and appeared in the real world. They concentrated on a portion of the ceiling and caused it to collapse a few seconds later.

“Dr. Newton, you shall be my hostage until I obtain what I have come for.”

* * *

A massive cloud of dust covered the entire battle grid. To most Navis, it was a cover to hide the one who created it. For SearchMan, though, it was just an annoyance. Smokescreens had no effect on him. He just took aim with his Scope Gun and waited for the crosshairs on his targeting lens lock onto his target. When they finally did, he pulled the trigger and fired. A cry informed him that he had hit his mark.

“Doh! Jeez, there goes my last kidney! I was saving that one for a special occasion!” SearchMan formed a grenade in his hand and tossed it in the direction that the yelp had come from. The resulting explosion blew away some of the dust and Laika took care of the rest by sending in an AirSpin1. The sniper Navi threw the fan out onto the center of the battlefield and the wind it generated blew the dust clear from the grid, leaving his opponent exposed.

“Scope Gun!” SearchMan fired and his shot hit its target.

DUSTMAN LOGGING OUT

The battle ended and Laika claimed his winnings. DustMan’s operator, Janet, then turned around and left having lost all her Battle Points.

“Another down,” SearchMan reported.

“Well done, SearchMan.” Laika was about to put his PET away when it started beeping with an incoming message. He answered it and Mr. Famous appeared on the screen.

“Laika, I would like you to investigate an incident at Den University,” the jersey-wearing scientist ordered, “We received a call from one of the faculty members at the head of the physics department is trapped inside his office.”

“Perhaps something collapsed and blocked his way,” Laika suggested, “The physics building is rather old.”

“That did happen, but not in the way you’d expect. Apparently, according to the report, part of the wall and ceiling were forced down.”

“I’ll get on it.” Laika put his PET away and headed towards Den University as quickly as he could.

* * *

Waves of energy came down on a printer and it was swiftly crushed against the floor.

“I must have more power!” demanded GravityMan.

“This is just wrong,” Dr. Newton commented, “Science should never be used for evil. That is why Dr. Wily and Dr. Regal were so corrupt.”

“Less talking, more empowering!”

“What do you plan to do if I refuse?” asked the professor, “Without me, you can’t access my data.”

“That is true,” replied GravityMan, “However, I understand that you are well-liked by many here at this educational facility. If anything were to happen to your students and coworkers.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“Try me. Gravity Drive!” Waves of energy surrounded a car parked just outside and in a few seconds it was crushed against the ground. Dr. Newton saw this display of power and quietly resumed working for the madman of a Navi. As he worked, GravityMan looked outside and saw Laika approaching the building.

What’s a Net Savior doing here? he gasped mentally, Well, that doesn’t matter. I will crush him!

As the blue-haired soldier made his way into the building, several craters suddenly started appearing around him.

“Laika, Sir, there’s a great disturbance in the gravitational force surrounding the area,” SearchMan warned his operator.

“Understood, SearchMan.” Laika got inside and stopped in front of the elevator. His finger was only inches away from the button when he stopped. A moment’s hesitation later, he walked away and bolted up the stairs.

“You shall not escape my wrath,” GravityMan droned, “Gravity Drive!” Back in the real world, gravity waves appeared and started crushing parts of the stairs. Laika leapt over each gap as they appeared, but the attacks were coming faster and faster.

“Laika, sir,” SearchMan interrupted, “might I suggest?”

“That would be a good idea, SearchMan.” Laika took out his Synchro Chip and slotted it into his PET, “Synchro Chip, in!”

“CROSS FUSION!”

Once the Cross Fusion was complete, R SearchMan activated AirShoes and flew up the stairwell. Seeing this change of tactics caused GravityMan to alter his own. He concentrated his Gravity Drive on the structure overhead, causing debris to fall towards the soldier. R SearchMan pointed his sniper rifle as he continued upward and shot at the falling rubble until he finally arrived at the floor he was heading for. Making his way down the hall, more gravity waves attacked and he braved all of them until he reached Dr. Newton’s office. With one pull of the trigger, he shot the door down and stepped inside.

“Net Savior!”

“How dare you intrude!” GravityMan exclaimed.

“Net Savior, please get rid of this mad Navi!” Dr. Newton pleaded. R SearchMan crossed out and walked over to the computer GravityMan was occupying.

“Tell me, why do you crave more power?” Laika demanded.

“So I can become more powerful and win the tournament,” was the answer.

Just as I thought, thought Laika.

“I challenge you to a tournament battle,” the blunette announced. As soon as he heard those words, GravityMan cackled.

“Challenge accepted!”

“Jack in!! SearchMan, power up!” SearchMan landed inside the computer and he stood across from GravityMan. Laika inserted hi Battle Point chip and his counter appeared overhead.

“We shall wager six Battle Points on this battle,” GravityMan declared.

“That works fine for us,” Laika declared, “Battle routine, set!”

“Execute!”

“I’ll crush you!”

BATTLE START

GravityMan hovered for a while as he and SearchMan waited for the other to make the first move.

“Gravity Drive!” Waves of energy flowed out of red robust Navi and they began to push down on SearchMan.

His attack is strong, thought the sniper, If I’m not careful, he’ll crush me! He struggled to his feet and moved away from the Gravity Drive’s attack range, but the increased force of gravity made it extremely difficult. Unable to move another step, he pointed his Scope Gun at his opponent and fired. His shot flew forward a few feet and then crashed into the floor.

“Nothing you do can stand up to my mastery over gravity!” GravityMan sneered.

“We’ll see,” SearchMan groaned. He called on a Search Satellite and a green laser shot down from above and struck GravityMan on the head. The robust Navi yelped and ceased his Gravity Drive. Now free from his opponent’s hold, SearchMan jumped a safe distance away and fired his Scope Gun again.

“Gravity Hold!” A ball of black energy formed between GravityMan’s hands and he threw it at the sniper Navi. The soldier quickly moved aside to avoid the attack, but it turned around and struck him in the back.

“Quake3! Gravity Drive!” A Powie3 virus appeared over SearchMan’s head and GravityMan increased the gravitational pull on the weight. SearchMan got up and saw it just as it began to fall and quickly moved away. The Quake3 hit the floor where he had once been and left a massive crater.

“SearchMan, are you alright? Did you get out okay?” asked Laika.

“Just barely,” SearchMan replied, “GravityMan’s manipulating the force of gravity on his chip attacks to increase the rate at which they fall, thus creating a more powerful attack.”

“Be careful, SearchMan.”

“Roger.”

“Gravity Hold!” Another ball of energy formed between GravityMan’s hands and he threw it at his opponent.

“Guardian Battlechip in, download!” A grey idol appeared before SearchMan and the Gravity Hold collided with it, triggering its Punisher counterattack which dealt a serious blow to GravityMan.

“Curse you, SearchMan.”

“You know, it doesn’t feel that threatening if you don’t put any emotion into your voice.”

“Blast! Oh, well. Quake3!” Another Powie3 appeared over SearchMan and GravityMan instantly activated his Gravity Drive on it.

“Gotta move,” the sniper muttered.

“Not this time. Gravity Drive!” GravityMan increased the range on his attack and held SearchMan firmly in place as his chip attack fell on top of him.

“SearchMan!” Laika called for his Navi and sighed with relief as he saw him pick himself up from the crater his opponent’s last attack had created.

“I’m fine, sir,” he reported.

“Good. Quickly, SearchMan. Vulcan2 Battlechip in, download!” SearchMan’s Scope Gun disappeared and was quickly replaced by a vulcan. He ran towards GravityMan and unleashed hailstorm of bullets on him.

“Gravity Drive!” Waves of energy poured out of the spherical Navi and generated a shield, which protected him from the shots.

“Cannonball Battlechip in, download!” A black steel ball appeared in SearchMan’s free hand and he threw it at GravityMan. It broke through his defenses and struck him on the head.

“Excellent, SearchMan,” Laika commended, “DrillArm3 Battlechip in, download!” The vulcan disappeared and SearchMan was quickly re-equipped with a drill.

“It appears that Breaking chips can penetrate your gravity barrier!” he exclaimed as he ran towards his opponent and thrust out his DrillArm3.

“Gravity Hold!” More waves poured out of GravityMan. However, this time, instead of pushing down on SearchMan they were pulling him up. The soldier soon found himself lifted off the floor and sent shooting up until he crashed against the ceiling.

“If you cannot stop the chip, stop the one using it,” GravityMan chortled monotonously, “Gravity Hold!” His attack came towards SearchMan and it crushed him between itself and the ceiling.

“Keep it together, SearchMan,” Laika said to his Navi. SearchMan coughed as the Gravity Hold disappeared, having had the wind squeezed out of him when it hit. GravityMan then ceased his Gravity Drive and allowed his opponent to fall and crash against the floor.

“Had enough yet?” asked the red Navi.

“This battle isn’t over yet,” SearchMan groaned.

“Then die. GodStone!” A GodStone statue appeared and it began thumping the floor, causing rocks to fall from above, “Gravity Drive!” GravityMan launched his attack at the rocks and they plummeted towards SearchMan with more force and speed. He moved to get away, but GravityMan quickly increased the pull of gravity on his body.

“Excellent. Just hold steady, SearchMan,” Laika commanded. He inserted three Quake3 chips into his PET and a trio of Powie3 viruses appeared over GravityMan’s head. Just as he had hoped, the robotic Navi’s attack pulled them down straight towards him and struck hard.

“Gah!” GravityMan stopped the Gravity Drive and SearchMan quickly moved away just in time before the rocks hit.

“A clever move, Lieutenant Laika,” the green-armored Navi commented, “You used his own technique against him.” Badly dented and battered, GravityMan turned and faced SearchMan with a slight hint of anger in his normally emotionless face.

“You shall pay dearly. Gravity Drive!” SearchMan quickly started running away as his opponent unleashed wave after wave of Gravity Drives in order to crush him and he missed each time.

“Maybe this will help me. Crest of Arcadia!” GravityMan’s body was surrounded with light and the Crest of Arcadia appeared over his gravity dial. With his new power, he created a Gravity Hold and threw it at his opponent before resuming his barrage of Gravity Drive attacks. SearchMan saw the ball of gravity energy chasing after him and thought of an idea. He quickly turned around and started running towards GravityMan.

“Laika, I need a strong attack!” he called to his operator.

“Not a problem, SearchMan,” answered Laika, “Cannon Battlechip in, triple download!” As he continued running, SearchMan’s sniper rifle and his left hand transformed into cannons and he raised them over his head and fused them into a green Giga Cannon.

“GigaCannon1!” He pointed his weapon at GravityMan and fired. Not surprisingly, the robotic Navi used his Gravity Drive to generate a shield and the blast struck its surface. However, blasting his enemy was not SearchMan’s plan. He quickly dove through the smokescreen his blast had created and ran right under GravityMan, who turned around to see what he was doing. His answer came when he turned back around and saw his Gravity Hold coming towards him. It collided with the side of his Gravity Drive shield.

“Too…powerful…” GravityMan struggled against the power of his own attack. There was a loud noise as his right arm was suddenly crushed.

“Laika, sir, it worked like a charm,” SearchMan reported.

“His conflicting gravity attacks are crushing his body beneath their combined force,” Laika noted. In no time at all, GravityMan finally fell to the floor looking like an aluminum can that had just been pummelled into oblivion. The wagered Battle Points were quickly subtracted from his score and added to his opponent’s.

“We won, GravityMan. Now fork over your rarest chip,” demanded SearchMan. Regretfully, GravityMan handed over a piece of data and Laika downloaded it into a blank chip. The result was a Balance chip.

“Let’s go, SearchMan.” Laika logged out his Navi and turned to Dr. Newton.

“You shouldn’t have any more problems with GravityMan,” he assured the professor.

“Oh, thank you,” Dr. Newton answered gratefully. Laika saluted and left the office. Shortly after his departure, a white column of light surrounded GravityMan and he disappeared, leaving behind only the chip data of the Crest of Arcadia. However, it was retrieved by Harpuia shortly later and it was readied to claim its next victim.

All I'm going to say now is that you really could have had a better name for the physics professor.

And for the next chapter... well... I'm not sure that I really want to know.

GravityMan was very out of character in that chapter. That's just all you can say about him.

Aside from the extremly lacking plot and GravityMan's OOCness, there wasn't much wrong with this chapter. The fight was fairly well done and fairly animated, and if you had come up with a better plot then this would have been a better chapter.

7/10

Also, I have my doubts about you trying to make a big deal about Netto and Meiru's breakup in the next chapter. Aside from the welcome lack of make-out scenes, you couldn't tell that they have split up. So trying to make a fuss over it at this point just isn't going to work.

I was convinced that you forgot about the break-up. If they broke up to keep meiru safe, then why does that make it any better to have the other one after him? Considering the fact that she can now crossfuse and be safe, I think that there is really no reason to keep them apart.

*Please note that I am a strong supporter of that pairing*

Wow. And now this plot is very new and innovating

Seriously, three lines in I could figure out what was going to happen. The only diffrent thing was Cross Fusion. For lack of a better exapmle you seem to have gone insane over this fic. You worry about finishing a chapter other than the quality, Have you even updated any of your other fics? No, all you work on you seem to still think this is the time when everyone loved it like it was the new Sliced Bread.

Why don't you stop for a while? Take a break from the fic. And I don't mean week break, a LONG break. Why don't you work on some of those fics that have become dusty like my Loneliness. If you can constanly produce TCY chapters then working on the other ones won't be a huge blast in society.

And would it kill you to answer some of this critque, it makes it feel even more pointless when you don't reply

Hello. SearchMan kicked butt. I loved your chapter a lot. I can't wait till Medi and Roll clash. It's a love triangle to the max.

Hmm. As a physics student, the choice of names, although somewhat on a minor note, was something that merited a groan from the audience. You know, the stereotypical physics professor does not have "Newton" as a surname. Why not "Ampere"? Or "Watt"?

Also, the professor claims that gravity is a constant and cannot be changed, which is blatantly untrue. If gravity was uniform throughout the universe, how the hell could ANYTHING in the universe form? You'd think a professor would know that.

As for the combat, I actually enjoyed reading it for a change. Nothing about it was detrimental to the plot as a whole, but nothing about it stood out. I noted some clever tactics used, so this is a bit more entertaining than your usual product.

I concur. I too am a supporter of the pairing, but as for the plot itself, you'd forget about the whole separation that happened in the beginning. Now that she can protect herself, why keep this charade up?
