As far as I know, we don't usually say that one season or another would be "old-school" because a show's been airing for a long time...I certainly wouldn't consider it of The Simpsons or Jerry Springer or any North American show that's been airing forever, so why would it apply to anime?
You can't even say "because it's not on in America anymore" because that ridiculous dub was still airing less than a year ago. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

Nothing produced within the last 10 years could be considered "old school", especially if it's still running like Pokemon and Detective Conan @_@
Now, Rose of Versailles, 60's or 80's Astroboy, Dragonball (original), or Gundam (original)... they could be considered "old school". I normally consider stuff to be old when it was made before I was born, or at least when I was very young.
Now, original Transformers; that was the shit. _________________

What if you're directly referring to a certain "era" of an anime... like the first season of Pokémon? Those almost feel "old school" to me...
So, does anyone have the faintest clue what I'm talking about with this old "Robbie the Robot" OVA I mentioned earlier? I swear that's what it's called... _________________

Ronin Warriors is one that I remember watching quite a bit. I plan on getting the DVD set someday. |

Only Old School anime I recall watching is Speed Racer... but man what a good show... can't hate it, I tell you. I still burst out laughing every time the Geico commercial for it comes up. |

Z Gundam is my favorite old school anime. Yu Yu Hakusho and Lupin III are also up there. Yu Yu Hakusho was made in the early 90s, so I would say it's as old school as the NES and SNES : o. _________________

I would have to say Outlaw Star. Got to love a gun that saps your life if you use special bullets. Though I love cyborg 009 too. _________________ Master:Watch class so you may learn, Boot to the Head!!!!!!

I think I'm going insane. I'm apparently the only one in the world who's seen, or even heard of, the "Robbie the Robot" OVA. I really gotta go find that VHS when I get home...
EDIT: Figured it out. My tape was labelled wrong, so I was under the wrong impression. It's called "Robby the Rascal," or rather Cybot Robotchi. It's a 1982 Korean 90-minute OVA that I saw on HBO when I was just a little kid. We, fortunately, taped it. So, that's my first official bout into the anime world. Ah... the nostalgia... I recommend it. It's cute, hilarious, and Robby looks an awful lot like Rockman. (The premises are even somewhat similar.) Check it out. _________________

Ah, good memories... Yesterday, I did a report on Saint Seiya in Japanese class yesterday. ^_^;;
It's so old, but it's so good, too...
...I just wish it has more English-speaking fans. ._.

All the old school anime I've heard of I don't even know. But I'd say Sailor Moon, even if I watched that show with no idea of what was happening. And Rurouni Kenshin (1996), if that counts. It's only problem was the gore. I just like the show for its characters. |

Oh yes, Ruroni Kenshin is definitely an old school classic anime. _________________

I've never seen Ranma 1/2. In fact, one student at my college admitted to loving it on a Thanksgiving bulletin board. I thought that some of the people at my college loved anime, therefore I wasn't alone. Maybe I'll check out Ranma 1/2 for myself someday........ _________________

I'd recommend that... From what I've seen you like Inu Yasha quite a bit, and Ranma 1/2 is done by the same person and shares some traits with Inu Yasha.
Has a fair bit of fanservice though, so you might want to watch out for that if it annoys or squicks you. |

Ranma 1/2 > Inuyasha
Because I don't want to spend 900 some episodes tracking down some Demon in a baboon costume. Ranma 1/2 focuses on a boy, Ranma and his father, Genma, who fall into cursed springs. Now every time Ranma gets splashed with cold water he turns into a girl, and Genma into a panda. The rest is up to others to find out.
Ranma had videos around 1995 in the US but had just finished dubbing like a couple years ago since they wanted DVD format... so it's not oldschool as it might seem.
The original voice actor for male Ranma went to go for broadway after 4 seasons, So they got Richard Cox, which many people had to get used to... including myself.
uh... I went into a fan burst again D: _________________ http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=100000142872316

Agreed, I still watch it but it drags more than Dragonball Z. It usually takes about 8 to 10+ episodes before anything of significance to the plot happens. |

I like Dragonball and Dragonball Z. Good stuff. Akira Toriyama's artwork is good, but it has no variety to it.
I've been trying to get a hold of a "Honoo no Doukyuuji: Dodge Danpei" but to no avail. I even looked on Ebay and couldn't find any manga or DVDs. 1991-1992, that's pretty old. _________________ War may not be the right answer, but when you're in one, ending it effectively and with positive results is a must.
