Both RPG and non-RPG fans will have a treat reading this, as it contains almost all possibly known rules that are common in all RPGs! Defintiely worth wasting a few precious minutes scrolling through this! I've had a blast reading this. ^__^

Some rules may be boring/not funny, but that's not the point right now. Occasionally, please post any of your thoughts regarding this list and any rules that you thought were funny! :]

Personally, my favorite was rule #36. Castlevania fans may scroll to rule #62, which is the Thousand Year rule. XD

So, your thoughts/comments? Laughing

Funny, hilariously funny. But I would like to add two:

Nonexistant rule #1:Memory Loss
Side characters, NPCs, and other random people will always forget the main character saved the universe from utter destruction in a sequel to the first game.

Nonexistant rules #2:Names can be decieving
RPGs will be named something with the words Final, Last, Ultimate, End, or any other words to that liking, yet countless sequels will come out (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy)

Not to great, but I wanted to get that out of my brain. My favorite rule is the one about hairstyles.

That reminds me of how in Megaman Battle Network 5 Barrel tells Lan (netto) about how he saved the work like 4 times already and I just yell "THANK YOU!!! At least someone friggen remembers"

That's... something I don't see everyday. Although some rules are dead on, I have to disagree with some of them. Then again, it is stated in the page that those rules are common, so I'm not really complaining a big deal.

At least Final Fantasy has an excuse. It was Square's "Going out of business sale" so they thought it would be Final. They took some risks, tried some innovative ideas, and found that their beatdown upon all other RPG franchises had begun. As an added bonus, they made money too and managed to stay open for business. Yay! ^_^

Cliche #50 was funniest IMO:

Short Attention Span Principle
All bookshelves contain exactly one book, which only has enough text on it to fill up half a page. XD

Aahhh. I remember reading this about two years ago.

Still as hilarious as it is now. XD

One of my favourites:

124: Gojira Axiom
Giant monsters capable of leveling cities all have the following traits:

* Low intelligence
* Enormous strength
* Projectile attacks
* Gigantic teeth and claws, designed, presumably, to eat other giant monsters
* Vulnerable to weapons 1/10,000th its size
* Ecologically sensitive

*Cough[spoil:184dfa3fb3]NebulaGreyCough*[/spoil:184dfa3fb3]cough*

As I was reading over these rules, the way they were written reminded me instantly of Golden Sun with regards to the age of the characters and the part about the parents. Going down further, a few of these rules brought up Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance in my mind, most notably Rule #23 as Mist winds up being held hostage in the second chapter and Ike has to go and rescue her. Rule #40, Zelda's Axiom really stood out for me as that one is so true with the Legend of Zelda series. I find these rules to be rather humerous, and at the same time, providing a strong sense of truth.

The wise and noble captain/king/high priest's splutteringly evil second-in-command. Nobody, including the hero, will notice the second's constant, crazed scheming until the moment when he betrays everyone to the forces of badness.

I've seen this happen too many times or something similar.

What about all the hero cliches like the main character being a swordsman of some sort, the princess having all the heal magic and all that jazz?!

Well, That About Wraps It Up For God
All major deities, assuming they actually exist and weren't just made up by the Church to delude its followers, are in reality malevolent and will have to be destroyed. The only exception to this rule is the four nature spirits who have preserved the land since time immemorial, but now due to the folly of mankind have lost virtually all of their power and need you to accomplish some ludicrous task to save them.

That would be the Final Fantasy X rule.

Actually... that rule also applied to Tales of Symphonia....

and Breath of Fire II, which came out before Final Fantasy X.

#188
OMG, what's with the Lucifer-wannabes nowadays? They always make a villain that looks like an angel. Is making a demon the enemy bad or too boring?

#124
They're huge and strong but yet they lose to someone smaller than them. They obviously hold back when they fight the heroes unless you play in a hell-mode like "God Mode" or "Dante Must Die Mode".
If I was Sephiroth, I would've spammed my Super Nova on the entire enemy party.

#128+129
They obviously never wash their clothes. The freezing weather has an effect on Cloud but yet it doesn't affect Wakka.

#153
Why didn't they use a Phoenix Down on Aeris?
...Because Tifa threw it out of your inventory. <_<
