|
|
For Planty. Remember way back when when I made a few one shots centered around Miyabi, Yuriko and their kid? Well I'm doing a series here, about their child Nozomi. One for each year until... whenever. So sit back, enjoy and I hope teh planters likes it. :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yuriko looked down at the small girl in her arms and made a face to see her coo happily. The child giggled and raised her arms up to touch her mother’s face. Miyabi wandered in to see his wife continually making somewhat odd faces at Nozomi just to see the child giggle. “What are you doing?” he asked her.
Yuriko jumped and looked at her husband. “I’m playing with my kid,” she snapped.
Nozomi laughed brightly as Miyabi held up his hands, “Right, right,” he said soothingly.
“Dada!” the child cried brightly and held out her hands.
Miyabi took the child into his embrace and held her up into the air. “Hello,” he told her.
The child screamed with laughter and waved her arms around as she was held up in the air. “Almost a year, huh?” he said as he held her close to his body.
Yuriko nodded, “Yes, next week.”
“It’s hard to believe a year has passed,” Miyabi said softly while he cradled his child.
Yuriko smiled, “And soon five, then eighteen, then twenty-five,” she said while looking at her daughter.
Miyabi shook his head, “I don’t want to think about it now.”
Yuriko gave a short laugh, “Too much for the proud father?”
Miyabi stroked his daughter’s hair tenderly, “I just don’t want to think about it,” he said while she cooed happily.
Yuriko nodded, “I can understand. It’s hard to believe she’s almost one though, isn’t it?”
“And she hasn’t taken her first steps yet either,” Miyabi noted with a touch of concern.
Yuriko shrugged, “It’s not uncommon,” she told him.
Miyabi sighed and sat down on the floor and bounced the happy child in his lap. “I know, but…
“Were you hoping for some kind of prodigy child?” Yuriko smirked.
Miyabi blushed and looked sullen before Nozomi turned around and cooed at him happily, forcing a tiny smile on his face. “I’m happy,” he said simply.
“Still the man of few words,” Yuriko noted with a short laugh.
“I don’t have much to say,” Miyabi replied and set his daughter on her feet. She giggled and let her self collapse so he would catch her and bring her back up where she could collapse again and again letting her father catch her.
“Maybe she doesn’t walk because you play that silly game with her,” Yuriko noted.
Miyabi shrugged, “I can’t let her just fall.”
“Says the man who used to be an assassin for hire,” Yuriko replied while crossing her arms.
Miyabi looked slightly annoyed, “That’s not very fair.”
Yuiko stepped in front of him and sat down cross legged across from him. “It’s not, but you still need to confront it. We’re different people Miyabi, but we can’t ignore the past.”
Nozomi looked from her mother to her father and back. She cooed to get attention but neither parent would pay attention to her because they were far to caught up in their own conversation.
“Look Yu-yu, I know my past, I just don’t want to think about it right now. You weren’t exactly a guardian angel yourself.”
Yuriko looked upset when he said this. “I’m aware,” she growled.
Nozomi tried again to gain their attention and again she failed.
“I don’t understand why we can’t just forget about it and move on!” Miyabi said angrily.
“Because the past isn’t something to be forgotten. You can’t forget things like that on a whim, Miyabi,” Yuriko snapped.
Nozomi sighed and stood up on shaky legs. She wobbled over to her mother and sat down in her lap in a huff. “Mama!” she said loudly.
Yuriko and Miyabi stopped arguing and looked down at their child. “Huh?” they both asked.
Nozomi grinned up at them, happy that the attention was once again turned on her. She babbled happily and clapped her hands together.
“Did she just…” Miyabi asked slowly.
“I think so,” Yuriko replied.
Nozomi smiled happily and curled up in her mother’s lap. “Yay!” she cheered and grinned at them with a big smile that made both parents forget everything, past and present to coo over their daughter’s greatest accomplishment. Which of course was her aim, because she had known for close to two weeks how to walk, she was just waiting for the right time to show them. _________________ Roses are #FF0000, violets are #0000FF. Hmm...the maxim of Star Trek comes to mind..."To boldly go where no one has gone before..."
The reason I bring that up is that I believe this is the first fic here that sets out to explore this hypothetical pairing in any sort of depth. I felt that the reflection of our couple on their respective pasts was particularly effective, as they know exactly how and what to avoid now that there is a child in their life. The walking moment was also quite priceless as well.
Heheh, you just referred to your dedicee as a can of peanuts. *shot* _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Year Two
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miyabi held Nozomi’s hand as they walked to the park down the street. “Daddy?” she asked in a cutesy voice.
“Yes?” he looked down at her warily. Whenever she used that voice it meant she wanted something. Yuriko had a bad habit of using the same voice when she wanted something from him as well. Like mother like daughter he guessed.
“When we get to park, will daddy push me on swings?” she asked him eagerly. “I wanna go high!”
Miyabi smiled, “Sure,” he said to her with a smile.
She cheered and let go of his hand to start jumping over cracks in the sidewalk slabs. Back and forth she jumped, from one to the other making sure that if she landed on a crack she would get off it quickly in hopes that her father didn’t see.
Of course he did see, but he pretended to look away when she glanced up at him with the question in her eyes. When she giggled and began her game again he returned his gaze back to her as she jumped around making sure that she didn’t hurt herself.
Finally, after hopping around for ten minutes down the street with her father following her in a quiet gait they arrived to the park. A large swing set loomed above them as soon as they entered into it.
Nozomi squealed happily and ran over to what she called a ‘big kid’ swing and sat in it. Miyabi went over and picked her up shaking his head slowly, “Not today,” he told her.
“Daddy!” she whined.
He shook his head, “No daddy today. You’re still not big enough. I want you to swing in the one with the back so you can’t fall out.”
Nozomi stuck out her lower lip in a poster child pout. Sometimes Miyabi suspected she practiced this look in front of a mirror, because every time he saw it, it became a little more tragic. Still, he held his ground on his ruling. “Not today,” he told her.
“Daddy!” she squealed again. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
“If you don’t swing in that swing than I won’t push you,” Miyabi told her sternly.
Her lip slowly retracted back and she sighed heavily, as if she was many years older then her ripe old age of two. “All right…” she grumbled. “Daddy push me!” she commanded.
Miyabi let a smile form on his lips as he carried her over to the swing that he had mention and set her into hit. “All right, I’ll push.”
Nozomi pulled the small belt over herself and looked up at him with a seriousness in her eyes that only a small child could achieve while trying to get what they wanted. “High,” she told him.
Miyabi walked around behind the swing and pulled it back. “All right, I’ll push it high.”
Nozomi sucked in her breath and Miyabi held her there for a few moments until she protested about being forced to wait for her ride. “Swing!” she yelled.
Miyabi chuckled and let go of the swing. Nozomi squealed out loudly as the swing rushed forward and back. “Push, push, push!” she chanted.
Miyabi shook his head amusedly and complied with his daughter’s wishes. “All right, I’m pushing,” he said kindly.
Nozomi cackled as the swing went back and forth and back and forth. “Yaaay daaaadddyyy!” she cried out and held up her hands.
“I’ve never met anyone who enjoyed a swing ride as much as your daughter,” Shadowman said quietly.
Miyabi chuckled, “Well, she’s not pouting is she?”
Shadowman nodded, “That is a good thing,” he replied in all earnesty.
“Daddy!” Nozomi yelled out.
“Yes?” Miyabi asked.
“I’m done!” she announced.
Miyabi stopped the swing and plucked her out of it. Before he could put her down on the ground she latched onto him and held him tightly. “Thank you daddy,” she said in a cheerful voice and jumped out of his embrace.
Miyabi watched her run off to play in the sand box and smiled. “Is that what makes it worth it?” Shadowman asked him.
Miyabi nodded, “Yes, it is.” _________________ Roses are #FF0000, violets are #0000FF. All my base are belong to you.

Aww...another one of those priceless moments of youth. As we age, we tend to lose these moments, and just reading them serves to rekindle those fond memories.
I especially enjoy how you have Nozomi in an almost pristine state of innocence--how all she wants to do at this point is enjoy the world around her, and that her father obliged to her requests while drawing the line over what is not to be done. Signs of good parenting....
Anyway...it seems that you have each vignette a year apart. This may be good for a while, but perhaps for future chapters, you may want to have the setting a bit less distant from the last, say six months or so. Some of the ages of early childhood are so active it wouldn't do justice to leave it in one chapter. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I love this, Neko. Miyabi makes the kind of father that is leaning and willing to spoil the child but able tod raw the line when it's necesary. I lvoe the fact you have Shadowman interact with Miyabi in this. _________________ Hecha en MÉXICO - Avatar by Me.

Phenomenal. A wonderful job as usual Neko. You write Yuriko and Miyabi perfectly and Nozomi is adorable. I can picture Miyabi walking down a road his hands in his (whats that thing he wears called??) witha two year old hopping in front of him. If you go to teenagedom with this series...man, a thirteen year old Yuriko/Miyabi mix? She'd be exceedingly kick can. Someone needs to draw Nozomi, and I thought hope was "nozomu". _________________

Mariko came into the kitchen with her arms full of bags of flour and sugar. “I’m here,” she said with a smile.
“Aunt Mariko!” Nozomi yelled out happily. “You came!”
Mariko laughed and set down her packages to catch the little girl who was running towards her in a big hug. “Hello, dear,” she said while brushing the child’s bangs out of her eyes. “How are you?”
“Great!” Nozomi said happily. “Are we gonna make cookies like you promised?”
Mariko set her niece down. “Of course,” she said warmly. “Let’s get your mother though. I bet she wants to make cookies too.”
“Yeah!” Nozomi said with enthusiasm. She ran into another hall of the house and tackled her mother, who was reading a book in an easy chair. “Mommy!” she said cheerfully.
“Hm?” Yuriko asked while reading her novel.
“Will you make cookies with me and Aunt Mariko?” she asked her mother excitedly.
“Why can’t you make them with Mariko?” Yuriko asked while staying intently fixated on her book.
Nozomi leaned up against her mother and hugged her tightly, “Pleaaaassseee?” she drawled. “Pllleeaassseee, mommy?”
Yuriko sighed and looked up from her book. She saw Mariko nodded across the room while her daughter continued to beg for her attention. She put her book mark in her book and cradled her daughter, who was cut off in mid ‘please.’ “All right,” she answered.
“Yay, mommy!” Nozomi cheered and latched on to her mother while Yuriko carried her through the halls.
Yuriko and Mariko traded small smiles as they walked to the kitchen. Once there Yuriko set her down and pulled out an apron for her to wear. “Put this on,” she instructed.
Nozomi nodded, “Kay,” she said happily and did as she was told.
“Don’t touch the knives, or the stove and do what me or Mariko tells you to,” Yuriko told her sternly.
Nozomi nodded, “Yes, mommy,” she said seriously.
“She takes orders well,” Mariko whispered to her sister.
Yuriko nodded happily, “Yeah, she does. I think it’s because of Miyabi. He teaches her simple martial arts and discipline techniques when he’s with her. She loves it.”
Mariko shook her head, “Amazing,” she laughed as she reached for the flour.
“Flour?” Nozomi asked.
Mariko nodded, “We’re going to start with the flour. We’re making sugar cookies today.”
“Oooo,” Nozomi said happily. “Fun fun.”
Mariko nodded, “Yes, fun fun,” she repeated with a grin as she measured out the flour and handed the cups for Nozomi to dump in the bowl which the child did happily.
Yuriko pre-heated the oven and sprayed the cookie sheets so when they came out of the oven they wouldn’t be hard to get off the pans.
After the dough was made, Nozomi spent several minutes picking out cookie cutters and placing them neatly on the counter. “I want these,” she announced when she was done.
“All right,” Mariko said and scooped them up.
Nozomi looked over her five cookie cutters and nodded, satisfied with her decision. Her father had told her before, ‘Never make a decision you know you’ll regret later on.’ She had taken those words to heart. A star, a circle, a small hand shaped one, a flower shaped one and a square made up her cookie cutters for that batch of dough.
Yuriko held her in her arms while she helped her daughter to roll out the dough. Nozomi giggled as she went back and forth with the motion of the rolling pin. Finally it was flat enough to put the cookie cutters into it and make the shapes.
Gently she put each cookie cutter on the dough and pressed down. Five, then five, and even though there was dough left she crumpled it up before Mariko or Yuriko could protest.
“What’s wrong?” Yuriko asked her. “There was room left for one more.”
Nozomi shook her head, “No. I want same number of cookies,” she announced.
“Same number…” Mariko asked gently.
“Same number for each cookie cutter?” Yuriko asked her.
Nozomi nodded, “Yeah.”
Yuriko shrugged, “Okay,” she said and began to roll out the next amount of dough.
After they were done with that, Mariko put the cookies in the oven and they all waited around for them to bake. When that was done, they took out the cookies and set them on the cooling racks. Nozomi inspected each one carefully and nodded as she noted each one was perfectly golden brown on the bottom.
“A little perfectionist,” Mariko noted.
Yuriko nodded, “Yeah. I noticed that a few months ago. She’s very peculiar about organizing things and making sure everything is in order.”
Mariko laughed, “That’s cute.”
When the cookies had cooled down enough the three of them set to decorating them. And according to Nozomi she insisted that each of the shapes looked like all the other shapes. Mariko and Yuriko obliged her wishes and each cookie looked like its mate.
Nozomi put the icing on the star in a pain staking three year old way. Of course icing got everywhere but it didn’t matter as long as the star turned out good.
After all the cookies were iced and put away, Nozomi fell asleep on the couch and Mariko and Yuriko turned to scrape the icing goo off of the table. “Wow, she’s very picky,” Mariko said with a laugh.
Yuriko nodded, “She is, but it’s in a good way. She’s very good about that kind of thing.”
Mariko smiled, “Very interesting child.”
“Yes,” Yuriko agreed. “Very interesting indeed.”

The chronicles of a three-year old child...making cookies.
I paricularly enjoy that you have Nozomi's personality as that of a perfectionist, even at the ripe age of three. Although you've used the baking cookies motif a lot before, each time I read it, it is as if I am reading it for the first time. Again another excellent job and one so incredibly satisfying to read. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks!
