Since it's only coming out on DVD, that provides some relief. However, the voice cast makes me a bit iffy.

Michael Adamthwaite .... Ogata (voice: English version)
Mike Coleman .... Mitsura Mashiba (2005)
Paul Dobson .... Toya Meijin (voice: English version)
Keith William Miller .... Kimihiro (voice: English version) (as Keith Miller)
Scott Perrie .... Akira (voice: English version)
Kelly Sheridan .... Ms. Ichikawa (voice: English version)
Chantal Strand .... Akari (voice: English version)
Brad Swaile .... Sai (voice: English version)
Andrew Toth .... Kaga (voice: English version)
Sam Vincent .... Hikaru (voice: English version)
Cathy Weseluck .... Yuki (voice: English version)

That's not true...at all, really. Unless you have heard every English VA before, then that's completely false. And even then, who are you really to determine the emotion of the VA? They may not show emotion in your opinion, but I'm sure everyone has different thoughts on the subject.

I'm kind of worried about the dub, though. The voices sound really iffy. I mean, Hikaru = Athrun? Yeesh..I'll have to see how this turns out.

I can see older Hikaru with Athrun's voice, but not kid Hikaru.

I didn't say all of them. >< Just some of them, Like The Dubbed epi of Naruto 1, Iruka's voice really not as emotional as it should be.

Are the DVDs going to have the original Japanese version on it or what? .-.
It would be nice if they did...but I'll probably buy them anyway even if they don't. XD

I know, but wouldn't you have had to hear all VAs in order to determine if whether or not most showed emotion?

Iruka's voice was emotional, in my opinion. Not as much as the original, perhaps, but it was still very well done.

Didn't Sketch himself post this a while ago? Oh well.

OCEAN GROUP! YAY! If I'm not mistaken, since this is a direct to video release, the episodes will be uncut and include a japanese track on it like most anime DVDs do. This sounds good to me. I really like the art style of HNG, and I think the anime will capture my interest a bit more than the manga did, plus it'll be cool to see the Ocean Group cast do another non-edited version anime. Also, as for Hikaru, Sam Vincent has made himself sound younger than Athrun on many occasions, although I was expecting him to play Akira because he looks so much LIKE Athrun XP

Kirb is happy now :3

Reviving thread because I have information. \o\

The January Issue of Shonen Jump came on Friday for me, it comes with a Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon...AND a DVD with the first Episode of the Hikaru No Go dub.

The intros and endings? Kept. Background music? Kept.

The fact that all the original music is used is great. It realy made me happy.

The voices...are bad in some parts....but most of the time great.

Hikaru is voiced by Numberman's dub voice. Which sounds kind of nazily at some points but is okay once you get used to it.

Sai is voiced by Netto's current dub voice. In some parts, IMO, he has too much excitement in his voice and it doesn't really match Sai at all...but once he calms down it's a very good choice.

Akari is voiced by Shuuko's dub voice, no problems with it at all, it suits her well.

Akira is voiced by Enzan's current dub voice I believe ethier his new one or old one, I can't tell now. XD ...I don't really have any problems with it just in some parts he's too oud and it doesn't suit Akira...

In all I believe this isn't bad...the DVDs will have the Japanese voices on them. The credits have them listed so I'm assuming. \o\

Scott Perrie is the AXESS Chaud's VA. Bill Switzer just disappeared. Odd that he would sound old for Akira considering he's a kid o.o I think I'll put this DVD on my Christmas list. I didn't care too much for the manga aside from the REALLY detailed art, but I might be more interested in the show.

well the manga never really appealed to me probably because well, they are playing a game. BUt after seeing the first episode of the dub thanks to my friend who gets Shonen jump. I ordered the DVD on like the day after christmas and got it today. It is pretty good, I think that whoever does the voice for Sai is doing a good job, haven't got around to watching the japanese Audio version but Sai likes to get upset alot, when ever he cant play go, or when Hikaru tells him he isn't going to play anymore Sai starts to cry. The first episode is asome becuase [spoil:ccdfe611da]Hikaru tells sai that he doubts he will ever play Go so Sai starts to cry and the intense sorrow at the thought of not being able to play go causes Hikaru to have to go through up.[/spoil:ccdfe611da]

How is it a different version of YuGiOh? For much of the episode its all Hikaru and not only that, Hikaru actually LOSES a few games. Let's also not point out that YuGiOh is a fake made up game where there are all these holographic fields and the whole point of the thing is to have the newest latest and greatest card. While Go has been around for centuries, even a millenia and hasn't changed at all and the whole point of the thing is to actually outsmart your opponent.
[spoil:e34360b432]Also in Hikaru no Go, Sai eventually "dies"/goes away and leaves Hikaru alone.[/spoil:e34360b432] I don't see that happening in YuGiOh.

Hate to be a party pooper but, [spoil:ebf2be316e]Dark Yugi does die[/spoil:ebf2be316e]

Sai can't control Hikaru and Yugi doesn't learn about meet his other side for almost 2 seasons, There are also several people with two sides in YGO. The only similarities are that there are two minds in one body and the main character is blonde in the front :/.

I just bought the DVD today.

Sam Vincent's Martin Mystery voice was bearable for Hikaru. At least it wasn't a crappy attempt at a kid's voice nor an unsuitably deep voice. Brad Swaile also did well as Sai (especially during the goofy Sai moments), but there were some occassions where his voice didn't really work. I really liked Scott Perrie's voice for Akira. It really suited him. Paul Dobson's voice for Touya Meijin worked well, too. Akari was decent and so was Ogata. Kaga was okay. Kimihiro's voice was too high, IMO.

well Yugioh and Hikaru no go are both based to some extent on a game and at first I hated yugioh then started to like it. But Hikaru no go being about a board game didn't seem to appeal to me but now that I've seen the first four episodes I am addicted.

I was hooked on it with the manga, so I'll stay true to the anime (although I will probably just watch it at a friend's house). I still prefer the original cast (doesn't everyone?), but the dubbed voices were indeed passable (more so than Yugi-oh GX IMHO). And I think that Go is a better game than Yugi-oh because, honestly, it's a timeless game that's survived since before the Meiji era, and is not based on a line of toys for an anime. Also, it's far from broken, unlike YGO, and costs less to play. The learning curb is a lot less harsh as well. I really want to learn to play the game myself, and the DVDs include lessons, so that's a great incentive to buy. One cannot really learn to play a game by watching Yugi-oh, but one can with Hikaru no Go.

Bravo, HNG, bravo!!
