Thanks to the splendors of YouTube, LiLAsN has uploaded the first episode of the english Singapore dub of EXE. It really is an interesting feeling to hear all of the original Japanese names in the English language! In case your computer doesn't cooperate with YouTube, I've put many wav sound files into one zip file for you all to download. I'd put up actual video clips, but I'm quite unsure on how to rip video from the site.
Also, special thanks to Mendinso for some of the voice clips, and the heads up for this info. ^^

Yeah, Ryouko, the ripping part isn't horrible. If you know what format you'd like to have the episode in, I can download it and format it for you, no problem!
The files get downloaded in a format called .flv (or basically Flash Movie Format) and with a special little program I have, I can convert them into .avi, .mpeg, and even more types of file formats!
*Think I'll take a test clip and see what formats seem to work the best on it and let you know.* |

Voices could be better. But it is cool to hear how the Jappanesse names actually sound in English. Is this an official episode or is it ammature episode? Can't really tell. _________________

Or, you can just DL Super from http://www.erightsoft.com/
It's a free, but POWERFUL video convertor than can flawlessly convert videos to just about any format. I use it to convert my AMVs to play on my PSP.
As for my opinion on the voices, well, they weren't MMX4 bad, but they coulda used quite a bit of improvement. The voices fit, but they were kinda emotionless, like they were just siiting there and reading te script. _________________

Well...I can safely say it's a big improvement over NT Warrior.
And Masa...does sound like Cheech. Does that mean Sharkmen or Higsby is going to sound like Chong? _________________

I couldn't see the episode, but by hearing how they sound, thanks to Ryouku ^^, I think I agree with Bluntman EXE that they do sound emotionless so I like the KidsWB dubbed better. _________________

Wow, that was interesting. Nice to see they think Dekao has the voice of a 30 year old. I actually kinda liked Netto and Rockman's voices, but I agree that the quality of the voice acting was pretty poor. It showed some improvement as the eppy progressed. But still somewhere in the range of Shaolin Soccer and that Dragonball live action movie kinda bad. Lots of instances of over-pronunciation or just plain boring monotonous voices. Mariko-sensei, you're putting me to sleep!! And you shouldn't be!!! Still a fun watch for those who don't necessarily care for the choices made in the English dub. _________________ Avatar art thanks to toberboobap, animated gif thanks to Dr. Wily II

I apologize in advance, but it's time for a rant. Move on, purists.
Oh...dear...GOD.
Okay, I WILL give them props for keeping the feeling of the original Japanese version...but if they're gonna go that far, I'd take the Japanese version itself over this. Despite NT Warrior's various down sides, I'll take the Ocean Group over these guys anyday. A good indication that thet were TRYING to get the feel of the Japanese voices, but these people can NOT, ACT. Dekao and Masa grate on my ears any of the "low pitched surfur dude" voices that people were constantly bitching bout when NT Warrior first premiered. Dekao sounds like Count Elec's NT Warrior voice, and Masa...ugh. Netto and Rockman sounded...okay, at the very least, but even they weren't too amazing. Even if some of the characters sounded pretty close to their Japanese counterparts, they sound like they're just reading off of a piece of paper. That, or they're just not saying the line as if a real person would be SPEAKING, like going off into like three different ways of saying the line in one read.
And this is more of a pet peeve, because I'm not a big purist guy (for ANY series really), but it's just a bit grating to hear "Plug In, Rockman.EXE, Transmission" in regularly spoken english, instead of "Jack In, Megaman Power-Up". Yes, I know that sounds like a ridiculously stupid dubby statement, but it's what I've become used to. Same thing goes for hearing "Netto" instead of Lan, and "Meiru"...Hellooooo? The name is SUPPOSED to be a pun on "Mail", genius translators 9.9; That's another thing. When I see shows that are just directly translated, it means they're DEFINTELY not putting enough thought into it. At least the folks at Viz will put some effort into making some of the lines sound like they're regularly speaking the english language, and not something from an old Jackie Chan movie or something. And yeah, Brad Swaile and Andrew Francias sound a LOT older than Lan and Megaman should sound, but at least they can ACT, not to mention have plenty of experience in dubbing to mouth-flap.
I would say that the Singapore version sounds like a fandub, but that would be insulting, since I know some people from the Voice Acting Aliance that could do a job SEVERAL times better than that. I'm gonna have to rake the quality of this in with Megaman 8/X4. I think that speaks for itself. |

Okay I'll start on what I hated. Dex sounds like he's 35 I can imagine him with a Cuban Cigar In his mouth. Now the part when Match was talking to wily it sounded like presidental election. Roll sounds like a S***. Thats what I found from the episode. |

Actually the Japanese term is "me-ru" (long 'e') sound, not Meiru. They just sound similar, so I see no reason why Meiru is not an acceptable localization.
The rest of your nicely generalized, obnoxious, opinionated statements really aren't worth the time to refute right now. >.> _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

So what you're saying is, it's perfectly fine and reasonable for people to talk about the dub that's already come out in the exact same
(in some cases even HARSHER) way, and me speaking about this second dub in that light is obnoxious.
Well, whatever. It's not like I didn't expect that anyway. But as far as I'm concerned, if people have already been doing the same thing on dubs that actually DO have good voice actings for a ridiculously long period of time, then I should be entitled to my opinion on this as well.
The Meiru thing I'm not gonna doubt you on, since I'm well aware you guys are more adept on translation than I am. That, and I DID apologize in advance to those who didn't want to read the rant. |

Hmmm...while the acting is not so good (better than Kayzie Rogers' dreadful Nefertari Vivi performances *twitch*) the voices are much closer to the original and the dialogue is kept quite well. If the VAs were better actors, it'd be better tahn NT Warrior.
Oh, and why is the Singapore dub in English, shouldn't it be in Malay or Mandarin? _________________
