Which is your favorite? If it has different numbers under it's name like Dead or Alive 1 and Dead or Alive 2 then state which one you like more. ^^ I personally like King of Fighters 2000 and SNK vs. Capcom. I like the characters in those games. Iori and Kyo are sooo cool. XD

I like Rival Schools and Street Fighter, good games. I especially like Rival Schools, isn't Sakura in like every game?

Why is there even a topic like this? Obviously, Soul Caliber II is the best fighting game there is. You have quick-moving characters, a decent range of character styles, the fighters don't move with the painfully sluggish speed of other fighting games, and weapons are fun! Plus, the Game Cube version had a good special character in it, unlike the other two versions. Then there's the campaign that gives you different objectives and the ability to buy different weapons and such. So much goodness!

Zodiac, your truly right! Plus the GC loads quicker. And Link just kills everyone, hes easy to do chain combos with.

Capcom vs SNK II, Marvel vs Capcom 2, SSBM are really recommended fighting games. However, if you want a strait out beat-em up, Sonic Battle is the best.

Super Smash Bros. MELEE and Sonic Battle are the best for each console. SSBM is undescribable.....while Sonic Battle is one of the few fighting games on GBA, so it's the best ^^

Rival School, Dead or Alive[2 and 3] , MvsC[1 and 2] Any Street Fighter and SSBM. But from all of these I have to say Dead or Alive series is one of the best 3D Fighting games I have played [no not just cause of the hawt girls :p ]

Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate (I LOVE THIS GAME. Too bad MK went 3D...now it's bleh....)

Soul Calibur 2 (Great game...too bad Namco launches turds like Tekken out with their clunky control and combo systems.)

SNK VS Capcom 2 EO (You can pic diff groove sets, plus the character selection was good.)

King of Fighters 99 (or 02 I dunno about the others because they are a little iffy...)

Soon to come - Neo Geo Collesium (Featuring the greatest character from the greatest video game of all time...MARCO ROSSI!! WOOT!!)

SSBM is one of my favorite fighters simply because of how different it is from all the others.

Though it is relatively old and doesn't have alot of flashy features, my absolute favorite fighting game is Bloody Roar: Primal Fury for the GC. Not only does it have my favorite fighting character of all time (Bakuryu, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Mole), but the game is easy to control and offers strategy coupled with fast-paced off-the-wall action.

The best fighter is the GOD of fighters:

Street Fighter II

It redefined fighting games of our life, if it wasn't for SFII.... we would be playing fighting games with fighters who hop instead of walking to their enemy.

It's only the honest truth... and who could forget the faithful "Hadouken!" sound effects that run in your mind from time to time?

The Tekken and Soul Calibur games because whenever I play them with my brothers we always get into long bouts of 20+ fights.

And Killer Instict 1 for SNES because it was the first fighting game I played where I actually cared about learning the combos, special and finishing moves.

And the SSB games because they're just so dang fun.

Super Smash Brothers Melee takes the spot as my favorite, but I also like Tekken and Street Fighter. Well actually...I like Street Fighter Turbo Puzzle more than anything else from that series, lol. XD

Although they aren't my favorites, some of the fighting games I enjoy the most are Samurai Showdown 5, King of Fighters 2003, Matrimelee, Tekken 5, Guilty Gear X2, Mark of the Wolves, Smash Bros and Marvel VS Capcom 2.
My favorite fighting game ever is and probably always will be (until Neogeo Battle Colliseum comes out >_>) is Samurai Showdown 4.
Has my favorite gameplay out of any fighting game as well as my favorite character out of any fighting game (Shizumaru, Starry loves umbrella users XD)

For 3-D games, it would be SC2.

But, my personal favorites are Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. I dunno, I just like those insane fighting frenzy games.

And, BTW, I once faced my friends at school in the original SSB, and won with 10 KO's. The funny thing is I did it with Jigglypuff! (Always gotta have the red bow on the back...)
