Well, these are all for the euro version, right? Maybe there's still hope. I'll buy the USA, Euro, and the Japanese version to compare. It doesn't matter if the Japanese version is written in Kanji. I can erad it somewhat, and even so, I have a translator. Still, those translations in European versions sadden me...But I kinda like Dusk. Better than Dark in my opinion. But seriously: [spoil:63158dba34]FYREFOX?!? WTF?!?[/spoil:63158dba34] _________________ EXEHQ. Click now, I demand it.

Quick question.
Is EXE5 a single playthrough game like BN1, 2, & 3 or can you play through it multiple times like BN4? _________________

Thank Goodness!!! I was really worried he'll become THawkMan...
This character limit reminds me of the SMS language... you abbreviate all words in any means possible to get the most out of your 150 char limit. Thing is, only u & ur frnds can undrstnd wht ur writng... |

EXE5 is a single playthough. To upgrade the viruses, you have to open up the holes in the Nebula Hole. _________________

I dont think that there will be any difference when you compare the EU with the US version. I never noticed any difference in the other BN games, so why start the difference in 5? |

It's probably because they did a literal translation of the manual, like they did with BN4 where you saw Proto Soul being called Blues Soul.
As far as some of the other name changes go, I like them. I think Gridman is a way cooler name than Footman. I like the spelling of Baryl more, it seems more name like to me, but I guess it kind of kills the Legends connection. As for Larkman goes, I like the name better, but it doesn't really make sense, he looks more like a Swallow Bird than a Lark.XD _________________ Name shortened from Serenade.exe |

The only reason Baryl bugs me so much is because Beryl is a woman's name (as well as the name of the evil queen in the first season of Sailormoon)... so now, I automatically think of this evil witch woman when I think of Barrel. That, and you're right... Legends connection dead.
And regarding this Medi/Meddy thing... the game itself refers to her as "Meddy" in Japan too (when you get deleted as her, that's how it's spelled)... but the spelling of her name seems to go either way. An old CoroCoro referred to it as "Medi Soul," for example. So, meh, who knows... I guess it's like Wily/Wiley, right? _________________

Now that the thread is revived, might as well throw in a few more things found in the translation.
Forget what I said about the name "Tadashi" being forgotten, they mention it on the SciLab BBS. The BBS translation differes from the game translation at another point too where they refer to the Kunai viruses as "Genin", their original Japanese version name. Since these viruses were called "Snapper" in BN2, and "NinJoy" in BN5, and now "Genin" on the BBS, that is one virus with a lot of english version names. :P
And also, what is probably the games' first real form of "censorship", the painting of the Last Supper in the Ship hall in ToC was changed to a painting of fireworks over a carnival. Guess there was a problem with religious references. -_-
Virus names -
CannoGuard, CannoRaid, CannoLand -> CanGard, CanRaid, Canlada
Chample, Champa, Champlana -> Champy, Chumpy, Chimpy
Sabotekoron, Sabotemal, Sabotegrass -> Cactikill, Cactroll, Cacter
DriCroll, Dricrossta, Dricrolliga -> Drixol, Drixor, Drixa
Pulsebat, PulseDevil, Pulsegaara -> Batty, Fatty, Gnarly
Kyattack, Kyattarin, Kyatapuld -> Catack, Cateen, Catpult
Uzrim, Uzruz, Uzmaneki -> Whirly, Swirly, Spiraly
Marina, Maritoru, Mariness -> Marina, Mariner, Marinee
WoodNote, WoodRondo, WoodMax -> WuNote, WuLong, WuMax
Skullabia, Skullaggle, SkullScarer -> Skarab, Skarry, Skelly
Draglin, Draglater, Draglet -> Draggin, Draglet, Draggy
Zaemon, Zuimon, Zelmon -> Zomon, Zemon, Zymon
Pikalah, Pikalattah, Pikalerza) -> Flashy, Flashor, Flashlit
AppleSam, AppleTom, AppleJim -> Appley, Applez, Appull
GaruBeast -> BigBrute
RoyHawk -> TinHawk
Bloodia -> Bladia
Those are the new ones, except the EleOgre family which got no name change at all. Now here are the returning viruses that got re-re-named.
Powered -> Powie (changed from "Flappy")
Kabutank -> BugTank (changed from "BeeTank")
Handies, Handied, Handinam -> Handi, Hando, Handum (changed, but it was changed in the Japanese version too)
Yura, YuraYura, Yurarion -> Shakey, Shaker, Shakky (changed from "Sparky")
Genin, Chuunin, Jounin -> NinJoy, Ninky, NinJoe (changed from "Snapper")
BombBoy, BombWork, BombLabour -> BomBoy, Bomby, BomBer (changed from unchanged)
And there's more that the english version isn't even supposed to see. Hacking through the translated e-reader cards reveals a few more name changes.
Ghostler -> Ghost (changed from "Spooky")
Arbalboy -> Piranha (first time named in english)
CanDevil -> Candela (changed from unchanged)
Daijan -> Anaconda (first time named in english)
Furoshuru -> Froshell (first time named in english)
Fanker -> Fan (first time named in english)
Chikrito -> Drain (first time named in english)
Madoi's Customize -> Maddy's Custom o_o
-FCR spoiler, if you don't know what the letters FCR stand for, don't highlight.-
Forte Cross Rockman -> Bass Cross Megaman, naturally.
I wouldn't get too worried about NTW influence over that Maddy thing. There are other explanations for why it ended up like that. The rest of the cards had several other names of viruses and characters that were completely consistent with past translations. |

Everytime someone says anything remotely negative about a translation, you get really defensive, man... but now, I can't even discuss the translation without you jumping down my throat? No one's bitching about the translation right here. We're just contributing to the general discussion... and I, for one, just kind of prefer to have consistency and accuracy with terms and names. It almost seems like you're out to find every user with a slight gripe about translation, just so you can patronize them for not importing games or speaking Japanese. So just... you know, back off a bit.
Back on topic... For a while, I was really trying to figure out what the big deal over "Maddy's Custom" was... man, I've really been out of it. I completely forgot her name wasn't Maddy in her first MMBN appearance... Not sure if there's any NTW influence there or if Capcom just did the same thing I did... Madd never really sounded that good anyway. But if we get a WackoMan in an English BN game... then there might be merit for worry. _________________

She was called Madoi in english BCC too, so it's more like they're just spelling out the same name in multiple abbreviations. Still, consistency would be nice.
Josuke isn't really patronizing non-importers these days, just people that complain about the translation. Although there really haven't been any recent complaints in this thread... |

True. I just noticed that the TC manual said Screen Device, instead of Screen Divide, unless there was a change that I'm unaware of. _________________ ' I don't care if the buzz isn't real- I can roleplay being drunk!'

Screen Device is definitely a typo of some kind. It's always been Screen Divide. |

Is Nenji "Fyrefox" in the U.S. version?
I really dont' see why they need to change Foot and Swallow's name. At least they didn't go back to bizzare cut names like Numbr Man or Serch Man or Burn Man....
I think the best not-so hot game name is: Japan Man... |

'Pretty sure the "cut names," as you put it, are still there... especially with names like Tomahawkman. I believe it was discussed earlier... not sure, though. But, yes... Nenji is, indeed, Fyrefox. The name itself sounds cool, and the pun on FireFox is kinda sorta neat... but it's just not the kind of name you'd see Nenji with. He makes me think more of a pitbull or pig than a fox... _________________

Yeah... plus the FyreFox thing kinda reminds me of the legendary monster Kyuubi - you know, the nine-talied demon fox... as in 'Cubit Foxtar' from the Rockman Zero Series... Nenji is definitely NOT what I would associate with that kind of creature (suddenly remembers Naruto...) _________________ 闇の黒井心の本当のカ

I think what MSP means is they're not abbreviating the names outside of battle any more. Like in BN4 characters and items were called by their eight character limited names from battles and menus even in dialogue boxes. They still do it in BN5, but to a much lesser extent, thankfully. Oddly enough, they still call him "Serchman" outside of battle though, even though they spell out other navi names like Tomahawkman and Blizzardman fully. |
