I was able to salvage chapters 2-23 to 2-25 from my temporary internet files. However, I was unable to recover chapters 2-26 to 2-31, so I'll have to re-write them. Chapters 2-32 to 2-34 were my most recent chapters, so I still have their back-ups. On the plus side, at least I can make the changes to the missing chapters that people have reviewed me about.

Anyway, in the meantime I'll be linking the chapters that already exist on Fanfiction.net here for your own reference. Once that's done, I'll get started re-writing everthing that was lost.

Not to gloat or anything, but this is why you have a fic on another forum too, and have everything backed up. Should I reupload everything of mine, just upload my newer stuff, or post links to the chapters on the other forum I have them on?

Personally, I'd say go with whichever's the easiet option you currently have.

CHAPTER 2-23
Jailbreak!

Sid was hard at work building his new Ride Armor for his plan to break Lucy and Blaise out from prison. It was harder than he had originally thought. His first real world Ride Armor, Goliath, had been constructed in the mechanical lab onboard the Dark Nation headquarters so he didn't need to put in any effor. However, without the NetTerrorist organization's technology, he was forced to build it with his own two hands. The money he earned from collecting bounties was used to buy the parts and tool he needed and it cost him every single zenny and then some. But in the end, he knew that it was going to be worth it.

"That should do it," he said to himelf as he shut off his welding torch and removed his mask. Standing tall before him was a black machine armed with several weapons including a harpoon attached to the left arm, several lasers and machineguns, and, naturally, various mechanisms that would allow him to utilize his Battlechips. A set of wings were mounted onto the back along with jets, which were also located on the backs of the legs. The cockpit, located inside the chest, was covered with a purple canopy that would allow Sid to see out and prevent others from seeing in. But its most impressive feature was the one that Sid was going to need to pull off his mission.

"I still think you should lay off those burned anime episodes," Vile commented from his PET.

"Quiet you," Sid muttered, "My Blitz Ride Armor is the best one yet. Now let's get ready for our mission." He packed up his tools and headed back inside his hideout. He stripped off his jumpsuit, showered, and got dressed in his usual outfit. After gelling his hair and eating a quick meal, Sid grabbed his PET, Battlechips, backpack, and all his Dark Nation stuff, including his Synchro Chip and headed back out, throwing on his jacket in the process. Setting his bag inside the storage compartment, he climbed into the cockpit and fastened the restraints. His fingers flew over the dashboard as he keyed in several commands which activated his new weapon's systems.

"Reactor: online. Sensors: online. Weapons: online. All systems nominal."

Sid took out his PET and set it in the cupholder on his side for easy access in case he needed to grab it quickly.

"Let's go. Ride Armor Blitz launching!" The former NetTerrorist grabbed hold of the main controls and pulled back on them. The Ride Armor's jets activated and he took flight.

* * *

Lan was sitting on Hub's bed watching TV when his brother came back from the science library.

"What are you watching?" he asked.

"Just the news," the younger of the two answered, "They're talking about the Dark Nation."

"Them, huh? I wonder what about." Hub set his books down on his desk and sat down next to his brother.

"And so authorities have dispatched teams to the supposed crash site of the Dark Nation's mobile headquarters," Ribbta reported, "We have yet to learn anything, but we do know that there are currently no plans to bring the aircraft back up from the ocean floor due to its massive size. Instead, investigations will be performed underwater. One could say it's like the exploration of the Titanic wreck years ago."

"God, I hated that movie," Lan mumbled as he switched off the TV.

"You've seen it?" asked Hub.

"I went through Mom's and Dad's collection of videos while they were out one day because I was bored."

***FLASHBACK***

Eleven-year-old Lan came downstairs into the living room and saw his mother sitting on the sofa sorting through some vinyl records.

"Hey Mom, what's that?" he asked.

"This is Mozart's Don Giovanni," Haruka answered as she held up one of the records in her hands.

"No, that. With the hole in the middle." Haruka suddenly looked up and sighed.

"I suddenly just felt myself age fifty years." She stopped what she was doing and got up.

"Lan, I'm going out to run some errands," she informed her son, "Is there anything you need?" Lan, who had his head in the refrigerator, looked up with a juice can in his hand.

"Could you get some milk while you're out?" he asked. Haruka nodded and got her purse before leaving. With the whole house to himself, Lan sat himself in front of the TV and flipped through the channels.

"Lan, it's Sunday. There's nothing good on," MegaMan quipped up from his PET.

"Yeah, you're right." Sighing, Lan walked over to the shelf on the side and started going through the family DVD collection.

"Huh, never seen this before," he muttered as he pulled out his parents' copy of Titanic, "MegaMan, where's the VCR?"

"In the storage closet behind the vacuum cleaner."

"Gotcha."

***END FLASHBACK***

"As I recall, Mom came home right when that one scene came on," Hub mused.

"Now that was awkward." Just then, Hub's watch beeped.

"Hey Lan, it's almost time for that research project."

"Time to switch." Lan's decoy Navi and MegaMan quickly exchanged places and Lan turned on the TV before heading out. He rollerbladed from Cameron Hall all the way to the CAB and took the elevator up to the top floor. He entered the office and walked up to the receptionist.

"Excuse me. I'm here for a research project with Noah Kaiyou," he informed her, "Name's Lan Hikari."

"Ah, yes. He's been expecting you," the receptionist responded, "Please have a seat. I'll notify him immediately." She got up from her chair and walked to the side. Lan turned around and saw Chaud and Sean sitting around waiting.

"Hey guys," he greeted, "So you're here for the research project, too?"

"Yeah," Sean answered, "I wonder what he wants us for."

"Mr. Kaiyou will see you now," the receptionist called to them. The three teens walked down the short hallway and filed into the office.

"I'm glad you guys could come," Noah greeted them as he turned around in his desk chair holding his Sabata plushie in his arms.

"Hey, it was nothing Mr. Kaiyou," Lan replied.

"Please, call me Noah. Anyway, have a seat." Lan, Sean, and Chaud looked around. What was there to sit on? Noah laughed nervously and scratched the back of his head.

"Sorry, but I don't have any furniture for your size," he confessed, "The best I can offer are my beanbag seats." He pointed towards a corner where four beanbags sat together.

"Cool," Lan commented, "I've always wanted to sit in one of those."

"I'll stand," Chaud muttered.

"Will there be anything else you'll be needing?" the receptionist asked as she stood by the door.

"Do you guys want anything to drink?" asked Noah.

"Anything will do," the teens replied simultaneously.

"Wendy, please get some tea and a box of Hawaiian Punch please."

"Would you also like you regular afternoon snack?"

"Yes, please."

"I'll be right back." The receptionist left and Noah turned back to the three teens.

"Anyway, you're here for the research project so I'll just skip the chit-chat." The young boy hopped off his chair and walked to a NetBattle machine in the corner of the room.

"Please jack in," he requested. Lan, Sean, and Chaud nodded and quickly beamed in their Navis. MegaMan, ProtoMan, and Axl landed inside the machine without any problems.

"So what's this study about?" asked Chaud.

"My latest project is in the field of virus busting," Noah explained, "I'm currently studying the various styles of different Navis and operators, as well as the relationship shared by them. Now, each of you will battle the same sets of enemies one at a time. The details of my study will be outlined in the debriefing sheets. So, who'll be first."

"We will," Lan volunteered.

"Alright then." Noah got back onto his chair and started typing on his computer, "Here's your first set of enemies." He pressed the ENTER key and a complete set of Bunny viruses appeared.

"Ready, MegaMan?" Lan asked as he activated his holographic touch screen, "Battle routine, set!"

"Execute!"

"Boomer3 Battlechip in, download!" Lan dragged the chip onto his Navi and MegaMan's hand morphed into a boomerang launcher. He drew back his arm and flung the projectile forward. It arched through the air and struck down all four viruses with one fell sweep.

"Round two," Noah announced as several Ratty viruses appeared. Lan and MegaMan made quick work of them with a Guardian chip. Next was a complete pack of Spikeys followed by a herd of Molloks. After that came a whole set of Snake viruses. The last batch of opponents were a Lavagon, a Bluegon, and a Yellowgon.

"Thanks for your help, Lan," Noah said cheerfully, "Who's next?"

"We'll go," Chaud volunteered.

* * *

The mess hall at Den Prison was as busy as usual during mealtimes. Blaise held out his tray as his food was splattered on and walked to his table. Because of his former association with the Dark Nation, several of the gangs in the prison had tried countless times to get him to join them and he turned them down every single time. Likewise, Lucy was also treated the same way in the women's compound not far away.

Suddenly, an explosion rocked the whole building and food went flying everywhere.

"Attention!" the speakers boomed out, "Someone has broken into the confiscated items building! All inmates, return to your cells immediately! Failure to comply will result in the use of force by guards!" Blaise was immediately taken back to his cell and locked inside it.

"What in blazes is going on out there?" he muttered.

* * *

"What the devil is going on?" Lucy asked herself as her cell door was locked.

* * *

Several guards ran to the confiscated items building armed with whatever they could find. When they reached it, they could see smoke coming out from where a large hole had been blown into a wall, but no one could be seen.

"Show yourself!" one of them shouted.

"With pleasure!" Without warning, a large black machine materialized from out of nowhere and knocked the guard away.

"The Blitz's cloaking device wouldn't have worked well with all this smoke anyway," Sid muttered, "Take this!" He took aim with the laser cannon on his Ride Armor's right arm and fired at the guards, killing them with deadly accuracy.

"Now for what I came to get." He broke through into the building with his Ride Armor and walked through the narrow aisles. Finally, he spotted a row of lockers. Using his weapon's strength, he tore open all the doors until he found what he was searching for: a black Chinese dress with shoes to match, a bright orange jacket with yellow flame designs, a red T-shirt with the WHIMIS symbol for "flammable" on the chest, a pair of blue jeans with red and orange flame designs, and a pair of fire-red shoes.

"Freeze!" several guards shouted.

"No, you freeze!" Sid sneered, "Blizzard Battlechip in, download!" He inserted a Battlechip into the slot on his dashboard and the Blitz's right arm shot a freezing wind that turned the guards into blocks of ice. Sid quickly grabbed the clothes and reactivated his cloaking device.

"Now for sis and Blaise."

* * *

Lan, Chaud, and Sean were just leaving Noah's office with their debriefing sheets when they got a call from Mr. Famous.

"The Den Prison is under attack," he informed them, "Based on the data we've gathered so far, someone is planning to break out the imprisoned Dark Nation NetTerrorists. Stop them."

"Will do," Lan replied, "Guys, let's go!"

"Get to the roof of the CAB," Famous ordered them, "I'll have a helicopter waiting." The three boys nodded and headed upstairs. They quickly met up with Famous and boarded the chopper before it took off. They arrived at Den Prison and found it running amok with chaos. Chaud quickly pulled open the door.

"Let's do!" Lan shouted over the whirring of the helicopter blades. The three of them jumped and took out their PETs.

"Synchro Chip, in!"

"CROSS FUSION!"

Lan's body was absolutely still as MegaMan's recustomized boots formed over his legs and his gloves encased his hands. His icon formed over his chest and immediately converted his clothes into a navy-blue bodysuit. Lines extended out from the icon towards his shoulders, where they formed a pair of yellow pads. The customized helmet formed over Lan's head and his power pack appeared on his back.

Chaud's hands were quickly covered with red and black gloves and his feet with red boots. His vest zipped itself up as ProtoMan's icon appeared on his chest, which transformed his clothes into a black and purple bodysuit and red armor. Lastly, his helmet appeared over his head and his hair extended down to his waist.

Sean's clothes transformed into a simple grey bodysuit with red stripes running down the sides. Navy-blue armor with red along the edges and down the center appeared over his torso as Axl's icon formed on his chest. Red-striped navy-blue boots appeared over his legs. His hands were covered with white material as navy-blue bracers formed over his forearms, merging with the gloves into gauntlets. A winged power pack appeared on his back and his helmet formed over his head, complete with both visor and mouthguard.

Now in Cross Fusion, the three Officials landed on the ground without difficulty.

"Where to first?" asked R MegaMan. An explosion from the men's prison compound answered his question and the three of them took off.

* * *

Blaise was backed up against the bars as the smoke began to clear from the hole that had been blown into the wall of his cell. The Blitz suddenly appeared in front of him and the canopy opened.

"Good to see you again, Blaise," Sid greeted.

"Sid, what the hell?" Blaise asked.

"I'm busting you out, dumbass. Here." Sid threw Blaise his clothes he had retrieved. "Get dressed then meet me and Lucy outside the Navi prison."

"If you're going to bust out Lucy, then how do I get there?"

"I brought this for you, too." Sid piloted his Ride Armor and used its left arm to grab something off the ground and placed it in front of Blaise.

"My motorbike!" the pyromaniac exclaimed.

"Halt!" Several guards appeared and aimed their guns through the bars. Sid just smirked and inserted another Battlechip into his dashboard.

"FlameLine1 Battlechip in, download!" In an instant, flames shot out from his Ride Armor's right hand and engulfed the guards in a wall of fire.

"Get going," Sid muttered, "And make it fast." He then withdrew and flew over to break out his sister.

"He's got more potential than I gave him credit for," Blaise thought out loud as he changed.

* * *

Sid blasted through the wall of Lucy's cell and delivered her outfit. While she changed, he held off the guards. When she was finally ready, Sid grabbed her in his Ride Armor's hand and flew away. The NetTerrorist siblings arrived at the NetNavi prison just as Blaise pulled up on his motorbike.

"How do we get in?" asked Lucy.

"Same way I got you guys out," Sid answered. He brought the Blitz's right arm forward and blasted a hole in the wall.

"Our PETs were put into the containment units with the same numbers as our cells," Blaise informed Sid. The young bounty hunter nodded and proceeded forward. He found the vaults and with his Ride Armor he tore the doors open.

"This is too easy." Sid opened the canopy and got out. He grabbed Lucy's and Blaise's PETs and handed them over to them.

"ScorchMan!" Blaise exclaimed.

"Blaise, is that you?" asked ScorchMan, "What's going on?"

"Put simply, Sid's busting us out."

"DevilMan, I'm glad to have you back," Lucy said to her Navi.

"It's good to be with you again," DevilMan replied.

"We better get going," Sid informed Blaise and Lucy, "Based on experience, the Officials will be coming. You two leave now while I take care of them. I'll provide cover fire for you."

"Where should we go?" asked Blaise as he mounted his motorbike and handed a spare helmet to Lucy.

"Head to Kotobuki Town," answered Sid, "I've set up my base at the former Gospel headquarters."

"You seem to have things under control, so we'll do it," said Lucy. She put on the helmet and got onto the back of Blaise's motorcycle while Sid got back inside his Ride Armor and strapped himself in. The two of them were soon off and Sid was left at the prison.

"Here they come," he said to himself as the three Cross Fused teen arrived.

"It's Sid!" exclaimed R Axl.

"What's he doing here?" asked R MegaMan.

"That's none of your business," Sid answered, "Time to get rid of you guys once and for all! Synchro Chip, in!"

"CROSS FUSION!"

In a matter of seconds, R Vile was seated in the cockpit of the Ride Armor.

"Time to show you the true meaning of destruction!" He closed the canopy and launched the Blitz forward. He pressed a button and several machineguns in the shoulders opened fire.

"Barrier Battlechip!" shouted R MegaMan. A crystalline domel of light formed over the three Officials and the bullets bounced harmlessly off its surface. As soon as the Blitz had passed, the barrier was dropped.

"Mega Buster!" R MegaMan morphed his hand into his weapon and started firing.

"Axl Guns!" R Axl's pistols appeared in his hands and he joined in the counterattack. R Vile piloted the Blitz with incredible skill and avoided getting hit.

"You'll have to do better than that!" he shouted as he activated his cloaking device and his Ride Armor disappeared from sight.

"Where'd he go?" asked R MegaMan. An invisible force suddenly knocked him over onto his back.

"Duck!" shouted R ProtoMan and everyone who was still standing dropped down.

"We're sitting ducks like this!" R Axl hissed as he tried to get a lock on the Blitz with the scanners in his visor, "It's no good. His cloaking device also blocks his signal from being picked up on my scanners."

"So what do we do now?" asked R MegaMan as a crater was blown into the ground behind him.

"We'll do this. Prism Battlechip!" A clear transparent crystal appeared in front of R Axl.

"Now all we gotta do is hit this Prism," the grey-haired teen explained.

"And it'll redirect our shots in every direction!" R ProtoMan realized.

"Exactly!"

"Well, what are we waiting for?" asked R MegaMan, "CrossGun Battlechip!"

"I'm glad I packed some non-sword chips," R ProtoMan mumbled, "Thunder1 Battlechip!"

"HeatShot Battlechip!" As soon as R Axl had armed himself, the three of them fired on the Prism at the same time and their shots ricocheted in every direction. True to the plan, R Vile's Ride Armor was hit.

"Now let's find a way to make him even more visible!" R MegaMan declared.

"So what's your plan?" asked R PRotoMan as they got up.

"This. ShotGun Battlechip!" The blue-clad teen's hand morphed into a ShotGun and he fired. The shots missed the Blitz, but they created a large smokescreen that covered the field.

"We used this same technique once against SkullMan," R MegaMan explained. He scanned the smoke carefully with his eyes and found the dim outline of the invisible Ride Armor moving in towards them.

"Try to target the clocking device," informed R Axl.

"You got it. Search Soul Battlechip!" R MegaMan's armor was quickly changed into his Search Soul armor and his arm morphed into his Scope Gun. He took careful aim through the lens and fired. The shot struck the targetted spot on the Ride Armor and the Blitz instantly fell out of stealth mode.

"Damn it," hissed R Vile, "Well, it doesn't matter as long as I still have a crapload of firepower!"

"You're going to need more than just firepower to beat us!" shouted R MegaMan as he changed out of Search Soul.

"Without control over your power, you're no better off than if you had no power at all!" added R ProtoMan.

"Shut up!" screamed R Vile, "I'll show you all! SideBamboo3 Battlechip!"

"Gotcha," R MegaMan smirked, "AntiWood Battlechip!" As a Kilbo appeared next to him and shot its spear at him, the blue-clad NetBattler moved to the side and unleashed a cloud of acid around the Blitz.

"WideBlade Battlechip!" R Axl put his pistols away as his hand morphed into a WideBlade. He ran up towards the Ride Armor and drew back his arm.

"Kaitengiri!" As soon as he came within range, he leapt up and spun around. His sword cut into R Vile's mecha and he quickly pulled away before he could retaliate.

"Your move, Chaud." The winged teen tagged R ProtoMan's hand and the skunk-haired Official stepped forward.

"Muramasa Battlechip!" The steel-bladed sword appeared in his hand and he rushed towards the Blitz at full speed. He swung his weapon wildly and slashed multiple times before he withdrew.

"It'll take more than that to stop me!" shouted R Vile, "Geyser Battlechip!" Without warning, a massive rush of water burst up from under the three Official NetBattlers and drenched them completely.

"Damn, he's good," R MegaMan muttered.

"His skill have improved dramatically since our last encounter," R ProtoMan added.

"Guys, he's coming in with another attack!" warned R Axl.

"Now that you're completely soaked, time to take things up to a new level!" R Vile sneered, "IceLine Battlechip!" He pressed the Blitz's right hand against the ground and froze and entire line of it up to the three NetBattlers.

"ElecSword Battlechip!" His Ride Armor's right hand then transformed into an ElecSword and he struck the IceLine with it, using it as a conductor to transfer the electricity from the blade to his soaked opponents.

"Crap," R MegaMan mumbled.

"Everyone, use DoubleJump!" ordered R ProtoMan.

"I don't have DoubleJump!" R Axl replied.

"What about AirShoes?"

"I don't have that, either."

"Well, what DO you have?"

"My wings."

"Then use those."

"Guys, in the amount of that we just spent discussing this, we could have gotten clear from the electricity already," R MegaMan intervened.

"Crap, you're right," R Axl realized. The electricity from R Vile's ElecSword struck them and sent several volts coursing through their bodies.

"You could have told us sooner," said R ProtoMan as soon as the shock passed.

"You were too preoccupied with talking, dumbass!" replied R MegaMan.

"Guys, now's not the time to fight each other!" MegaMan cried from inside R MegaMan.

"He's right," R Axl responded, "We gotta refocus our attention back onto Sid and his Ride Armor."

"There's one of him and three of us. If we can do this right, we can win," R ProtoMan noted.

"Then let's do it!" cried R MegaMan. The three teens knocked their fists together and leapt away from each other.

"Mega Buster!"

"Axl Guns!"

"Sonic Boom!"

"Is that all you've got?" asked R Vile as he flew to evade their default attacks.

"Chaud, he's moving towards you!" shouted R Axl.

"I got it!" the oldest of the three yelled back, "StepSword, HeroSword, StepCross Battlechips! Program Advance: EvilCut!" His hands morphed into the respective swords and he dashed towards the Blitz. He slashed once with the StepSword then with the HeroSword and finished off with a double slash from both.

"BombDNA Battlechip!" R Axl transformed into BombMan and ejected two bombs from his shoulders. He kicked them forward with all his might and struck the Blitz in the back.

"Damn you!" screamed R Vile as he turned around, "You are so dead!"

"Yo-yo3 Battlechip!" R MegaMan's hand morphed into a yo-yo launcher and he dispatched the circular blade. It struck the Ride Armor's shoulder and severed the left arm from the torso.

"Damn it! This can't be happening again!" the NetTerrorist gasped.

"It's the power of teamwork!" shouted R MegaMan, "With the three of us working together, we've defeated every enemy we've come across. And that includes you! Your move, Sean!"

"Here's coming to ya! BrightDNA Battlechip!" R Axl activated the chip and he transformed from BombMan into BrightMan, "Check it out! Spark Plug!" He snapped his fingers and jammed his plugs into R Vile's Ride Armor.

"Power is dropping rapidly!" the masked NetBattler noted from the gauge on his dashboard, "You can't win that easily! LifeAura Battlechip!" A purple glow surrounded his Ride Armor.

"Wind Soul Battlechip!" R MegaMan's armor changed into his version of WindMan's and a powerful NorthWind blew over the area and dissipated the LifeAura. With that done, he immediately changed back into his normal style.

"Hey Sean, how about using the Dark Messiah?" he asked.

"Hell no!" R Axl replied, "A Program Advance of that magnitude could wipe out half the country if used in the real world!"

"How about our combo attack?" suggested R ProtoMan.

"Much better. Let's go with that." R Axl's pistols appeared in his hands. He got down on one knee and aimed both of his weapons forward. R MegaMan morphed his hand back into his buster and pointed it in at the Blitz. R ProtoMan clenched his fist as he changed it into his sword and drew it back. With everything now in place, the three of them charged up up their weapons.

"TRIPLE WARRIOR!" In a blaze of buster shots, Sonic Booms, and plasma bullets, they unleashed a vicious onslaught on R Vile. Warning lights and alarms went off inside his Ride Armor as he took the hits.

"Eject now!" R Vile grabbed the lever under his seat and pulled. The canopy burst off and the seat was flung out just as the Blitz exploded.

"Ride Armor down!" R MegaMan whooped before he turned to R Vile, "Now it's your turn!"

"Sorry, but I've already finished what I came to do," the mercenary replied, "Until later." R Vile activated his rocket pack and flew off, thus leaving the battle.

"He got away again," muttered R MegaMan.

"And it looks like he got away with what he accomplished, as well," added R ProtoMan. The three teens quickly crossed out and their PETs reappeared in their hands.

"He sure caused a lot of damage," Lan noted as he looked around.

"There's nothing we can do right now," said Sean, "Let's just head back."

* * *

R Vile arrived at his hideout and landed just outside the door. He crossed out and reverted back into Sid before stepping inside, where he found Lucy and Blaise waiting.

"Well?" the pyromaniac asked, "How did things go?"

"I was able to hold them off long enough for you two to get away," Sid answered, "and it looks like I'm going to need a new Ride Armor."

"We should try to focus on building ourselves up," Lucy intervened as she stepped forward, "We're all that remain of the Dark Nation. We'll need to rebuild everything that those kids destroyed."

"Legally, they're adults," Sid reminded.

"But we're still older than them," his sister shot back.

"Oi, you are. I'm not."

"So Sid, what have you been up to?" asked Blaise.

"Bounty hunting, freelancing, whatever the hell you want to call it," Sid answered as they headed up to the main room, "I prepared rooms for you two. Whatever it takes, we are going to rebuild the Dark Nation. Either that or create a whole new organization and name it something else. Whichever you prefer."

Unbeknownst to anyone in the room, a lone KillSensor was watching them from a nearby monitor. It quickly turned around and floated away. As soon as it had left the server, the electric virus changed into the black and silver form of Interface.

Most intriguing, he thought, I must report this to Lord Viron. And with that, he headed back to the VILE server.

CHAPTER 2-24
VILE Intelligence!

Snipe Anteater's eyes scanned the window before him as he gathered up all the data he needed. As his name implied, his body ressembled that of a blueish-grey aardvark. His long thin red tongue stuck out from his skinny mouth. Green armor covered his torso, which had a large cannon mounted onto his back as he walked around dragging his abnormally large buttocks behind him, which was all that kept him from toppling forward.

He turned as he hard footsteps approaching and saw several security Navis run in.

"Hold it right there!" they shouted as they aimed their cannons at him, "Cease your actions immediately or we will be forced to fire."

"Do you think you can really stop me?" asked Snipe Anteater, "Snipe Satellites!" He deployed several probes that converged on the security Navis and bombarded them with lasers. The data junkie seized this chance to escape with the information he had just gathered.

"Stop!" yelled one of the Navis as he ran towards him.

"Army Ants!" Snipe Anteater summoned an ant-like mine and it exploded as soon as the security Navi stepped on it, deleting him instantly. He chortled and quickly left, leaving no trace of his presence.

* * *

With all assignments finished for the next week and no exams until December, Lan and the others had all decided to spend Saturday at the campus rec center. Lan himself was on the rock climbing wall with Sean while Hub was in the pool. Tory was working out in the weight room, Yai was riding on a stationary bicycle, Dex was shooting hoops, and Maylu was playing badminton against Chaud.

"You know, Sean, I never realized you were into wall-climbing," Lan commented as he hoisted himself up by another plastic rock.

"Well, it's fun," the grey-haired teen replied, "That's always been a good-enough reason for me."

"By the way, will you be going home for Christmas this year? I need to know in advance since Hub wasn't with us last year and there might not be enough room in my car for four people and all our stuff."

"I might after the big Christmas dinner in Cameron Hall." Lan stopped climbing and looked at his friend.

"There's going to be a Christmas dinner at our dorm?" he asked.

"Yeah. Hiro told me about two days ago," Sean answered.

"This I gotta check out. I'm heading over there right now." Lan paused in his speech for a moment, "Just as soon as I reach the top." The two boys quickly scaled the rest of the climbing wall and then descended back down to the floor. As soon as they removed their harnesses and changed their shoes, they headed off. Along the way, they ran into Hub who was just buying himself a drink from the vending machines. Judging from the fact that he was dripping wet and still clad in his swimming trunks, they assumed that he had just come out from the pool.

"Hey, bro!" Lan greeted.

"Hey, Lan," Hub greeted back, "Finished wall climbing already?"

"Yeah, pretty much," the younger teen replied, "So, how was your swim?"

"Meh, it was alright. Where are you guys headed?"

"Cameron Hall. Sean just told me about the Christmas dinner that's going to be happening there. Wanna come with us?"

"Sure. Just let me get my clothes and I'll meet you there." Hub finished off his pop and tossed it into the recycling bin before heading off to the change room while Lan and Sean went on ahead of him.

* * *

Yuki and Cid were busy in Cameron Hall's kitchen working on what they hoped would be for the Christmas dinner. Cid was busy writing some stuff out while Yuki was trying out some recipes.

"Once the sauce has set, pour it over the chicken," read Yuki. She took the bowl in her arms and tilted it over the chicken on the counter, but nothing came out. She shook it and still nothing. Perplexed, she grabbed the wooden spoon in the sauce and attempted to mix it up a bit more. There was a snap as the spoon broke into two.

"What's that?" asked Dan as he and Hiro walked into the kitchen.

"It was going to be lemon chicken, but now it's a paperweight," Yuki replied, "Anyway, I'm glad you guys are here. I need someone to try out my sweet and sour sauce." Dan and Hiro turned around and did a quick round of rock-paper-scissors. Hiro groaned when he saw that he lost. But, he still turned back around and hesitantly brought the spoon to his mouth. He coughed as he tried to swallow its contents.

"Well?" asked Yuki.

"You got the sour part down," Hiro replied hoarsely. He turned around and placed his hand under his chin as he ran out to find the bathroom.

"Hey guys," Lan greeted as he and Sean came in, "We heard about the Christmas dinner."

"We're just making plans and Yuki's trying some recipes out," Cid answered.

"What've you got so far?" asked Sean.

"Well there's eleven of us, so I thought one turkey wouldn't cut it," the mechanic responded.

"Yeah, I can see how only three pounds of meat would leave us unsatisfied," Dan muttered.

"Are you familiar with the turducken?" Cid continued.

"Isn't that a chicken in a duck in a turkey?" asked Sean. From the sounds of it, Lan was beginning to like the idea already.

"Sounds awesome," he piped up, "Is that what we're having?"

"No." Lan facefaulted, "Although impressive, I decided to stop short when deciding the turducken."

"Yeah. Seems like a real underachiever there," Dan mumbled.

"So I decided to make my own version."

"What's that?" asked Lan, "A pole cat stuffed into a possum?"

"No," Cid answered, "First we start with a hummingbird..."

"A what?" asked Sean.

"Put that in a sparrow," Cid continued, "Stuff them both into a cornish hen. Put that in a chicken, then in a duck, then in a turkey, then into an even bigger turkey..."

"Two turkeys?" Lan asked incredulously.

"Hey, it's Christmas," Cid answered before resuming, "Put that in a penguin. Put that in a peacock, and then an eagle. Shove it all into an albatross, then an emu. Next comes an ostrich, then a leopard. Put all that into a pterodactyl. Finally, stuff it in a Boeing 747."

There was a brief moment of silence after Cid had finished explaining his recipe as everyone tried to let it sink in.

"Cool!" Lan exclaimed, "I get a wing!"

"I call the turbine!" Dan announced.

"Alright!" Cid cried, "Hey Sean, what kind of meat do you like? First class or coach?"

"You know if you cook this thing at 350 degrees as ten minutes a pound, it's not going to be done for eleven years," Sean explained.

"That's why we're going to deep fry." Suddenly, a loud truck horn went off outside, "There's the oil now!"

"What was that leopard for?" asked Dan.

"Presentation."

* * *

"I have returned," Snipe Anteater announced as he appeared inside the VILE server.

"Did you get what you were sent to retrieve?" asked Terabyte.

"Right here." Snipe Anteater held out the data in his hands and Terabyte took it in his claws.

"Yes, this is it." The large supervirus walked over to the side, where he placed it into a slot in a large machine.

"At this rate, Lord Viron's Project Ultima will be completed in no time," Interface commented as he stepped out from the shadows.

"Then let's proceed with the final preparations," Venus suggested as she floated down from the ceiling.

"For once I agree with you willingly," Interface replied, "Snipe Anteater, gather the remaining pieces we need."

"At once," the aardvark-themed virus acknowledged.

"Things are going quite well," Lord Viron commented as his silhouette appeared on a window overhead. Immediately, the superviruses and Snipe Anteater knelt down and bowed.

"I think it's time we took this to the next level," the leader of VILE continued, "We shall lure MegaMan and his operator to us. That way we can test out the power of the Project Ultima on them."

"An excellent plan, my lord," Snipe Anteater replied, "I shall tell them where to go should they run into me on my final data-gathering mission."

"Sir, you realize this is a risky move," Interface interjected, "Revealing our location could be dangerous."

"You seem to forget, Interface, that every one of my plans has several back-ups," Lord Viron chided, "Don't worry. This will be their final act."

"For the glory of VILE!" Interface, Venus, Terabyte, and Snipe Anteater chorused.

* * *

"Well Lan, the term's almost over," said Hub, "Soon we'll have our finals and then we all go home for our three weeks of holidays."

"Did you hand in the last of our math assignments?" asked Lan. His brother nodded.

"Dropped them off on the way to campus rec this morning." He walked over to the radiator where he had placed his swimming trunks on top to dry and checked to see how much of it was done. "Still damp."

"Why don't you just toss it in with the rest of our dirty clothes and wash them at the laundromat?" Lan suggested, "It's your week to wash, anyway."

"Alright, fine. I'll go." Just before Hub could gather the laundry basket, Mr. Famous called on them.

"A virus has broken into the Electopian Mint network," he informed the twins, "It's another of VILE's designs. It's sealed all jack-in locations at the mint, so you'll have to get there via the net."

"Mr. Famous, the Electopian Mint has one of the most elite security systems in its network," Hub replied, "We can't just get in through the net like that."

"That's why I've been authorized to give you this." Famous quickly sent over a security code so that MegaMan would be able to access the system, "Try to get that virus before it succeeds in its mission." And with that, he ended the transmission.

"I tell ya, it's like someone put a curse on us," Lan sighed.

"Yeah. Seems like we're always the first ones to get called on when something like this happens," Hub agreed with his brother, "Anyway, let's just get this over with. Jack in!! Power up!"

* * *

Snipe Anteater was making his way through the mint's system, blasting away at anything that stood in his way.

"I must get that security program," he said to himself as he deployed several of his Army Ants to hold back any opposition. He continued to make his way deeper into the network until he finally arrived at the core.

* * *

MegaMan stepped into the Electopian Mint system and displayed his ID to the security Navis.

"What's the situation?" he asked.

"The virus has made its way to the core of this system," one of the guards answered, "We believe he's here to steal the security program. It's the most sophisticated program ever. It surrounds our system with an impenetrable barrier that no one can get through."

"Wait a second," MegaMan interrupted, "If no one can get through the barrier, then how on Earth did a virus break in?" The guards hung their heads in shame.

"We have no idea."

"Well that's just craptacular," sighed MegaMan, "I'm going on ahead." He left the security Navis and proceeded through the system.

* * *

"At last, I have the Naraku Program!" Snipe Anteater shouted triumphantly. He opened up a small link and quickly sent it off before turning around and facing the entrance. Just as he had surmised, MegaMan came in looking for him.

"Are you the virus that broke into this system?" the blue Navi demanded.

"And you've come to delete me," Snipe Anteater replied, "Well, you've heard all the lines, so let's just get down to business."

"Exactly what I was thinking."

"Snipe Satellites!" Snipe Anteater deployed several probes and they quickly honed in on MegaMan. With their target locked, the immediately fired off a barrage of lasers straight at him.

"Barrier Battlechip in, download!" Lan slammed the chip into his PET and a crystalline dome of energy surrounded MegaMan. Unfortunately, the lasers pierced right through the protective shield and struck the Navi with full power.

"MegaMan, are you okay?!" Lan asked.

"I'm fine!" MegaMan called back, "Apparently, this guy's got attacks that can break through defenses." Suddenly, it struck both brothers.

"So that's how he got past the barrier!" they exclaimed simultaneously.

"Correct," Snipe Anteater sneered, "However, you're too late. I already sent the Naraku Program off to Lord Viron. Now Project Ultima shall be completed!"

"Did he say 'Naraku Program'?" asked Lan.

"It kinda fits, I guess," said MegaMan, "You know with the program's barrier and Naraku's barrier..."

"I get the point."

"Sniper Missiles!" Snipe Anteater bent his head down and fired several homing missiles from the cannon on his back.

"Watch out, MegaMan!" Lan warned, "WideBlade Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan brought up his sword and swung as each missile came at him, slicing each one in half and thus rendering them harmless.

"Army Ants!" Snipe Anteater deployed several of his mines and they covered the entire floor, "Sniper Missiles!"

"Hey Lan, I need some help!" MegaMan called, "Like right now!"

"You got it!" Lan responded, "Soul Unison: Fire Soul Battlechip in, download! LavaStage Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan's body was instantly transformed into Fire Soul and the floor was quickly covered with lava. The heat from the molten liquid detonated all the Army Ants at once and MegaMan launched a quick Fire Arm at the missiles, exploding them in midair.

"Impressive," Snipe Anteater commented, "You're a much better fighter than I thought."

"I'm impressed that you can actually move with such a big ass," MegaMan shot back.

"Why you little whelp! Sniper Missiles!"

"Get him, MegaMan! StepSword Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan changed back to normal as his hand morphed into a sword and he dashed forward until he was right in front of his opponent.

"Take this!"

"Hold it!" Snipe Anteater unleashed a powerful wisp of air from his mouth right into MegaMan's face. The blue Navis was blown back and the virus quickly deployed an Army Ant right under him, which exploded as soon as he landed on it.

"Damn, he's good," Lan mumbled.

"Are you surprised?" asked Snipe Anteater, "I knew that I would be facing you one day, MegaMan. So I gathered information and data on you and from it I conjured up a set of battle plans that would surely defeat you."

"Tell me," MegaMan groaned as he slowly got up, "What's VILE planning?"

"Since you're going to be destroyed anyway, I guess it won't hurt to tell you. With all the data that I've been gathering, Lord Viron plans to create the ultimate virus."

Why does this sound so familiar? MegaMan mentally asked himself with a tone of sarcasm.

"I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell me where this is all taking place, would it?" he asked the virus.

"It's all happening at VILE headquarters located at Serpent Bastion a few kilometers northeast of Hades Isle," Snipe Anteater answered. MegaMan grinned.

"Thanks," he said, "for spilling the beans so easily!"

"Recover300 Battlechip in, download!" A gentle aura surrounded MegaMan as all of his bodily damage was quickly repaired.

"Let's finish him off!" the called to his operator.

"You got it, MegaMan!" replied Lan, "Sword Battlechip in, download! WideSword Battlechip in, download! LongSword Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan merged the three swords together and they fused into one single blade.

"Oh yeah! LifeSword!" He grasped the hilt in his hands and swung downward. The blade struck the floor and sent a powerful energy wave that cleaved through Snipe Anteater's body like a lightsaber.

Looks like VILE wins this one, after all, thought the virus as he was deleted.

"That's another virus down!" MegaMan reported, "And it looks like we can finally take this long-fought battle straight to VILE's leader."

"You said it, MegaMan," Lan answered with a triumphant tone in his voice, "Log out and we'll discuss the plans with everyone."

"Gotcha."

MEGAMAN LOGGING OUT

* * *

Lord Viron finished inputting the last of the commands and watched as he final program Snipe Anteater had brought him was integrated into his creation.

"At last, Project Ultima is now complete. All that remains now is to test it on that infernal MegaMan." Lord Viron got up from his desk chair and walked across the room to a large screen, which displayed a giant monster hidden in the shadows.

"This may be your final fight, MegaMan. And even if you survive, Interface, Venus, and Terabyte shall delete you personally." The leader of VILE turned around and walked towards the center of the room. The dim light of the moon coming in through the skylight that served as the only means of illumination was cast upon the mysterious figure. Lord Viron was a tall person, standing at two meters in height. His hair was long and reached well past his knees as it constantly kept shifting among the colors of the rainbow. His hands were encased in black leather gloves not unlike Darth Vader's and his feet in a pair of black boots. He wore a long black coat with red along the trims and shoulders and down the sides of his arms. In the center of his chest was the sepent's head-shaped V of VILE. Lord Viron's face was mouthless and completely chalk white. His red and black right eye gave a piercing glare of evil while his left eye was obscured by a lock of his constantly color-changing hair.

"MegaMan, come to me and face my Ultima Virus!"

-------------------------
End of chapter 2-24.

CHAPTER PREVIEW
Lan:
We've finally got the location of VILE's headquarters. There's no question as to what our next move is.
MegaMan: We storm Serpent Bastion and take no prisoners!
Lan: The leader of VILE will undoubtedly be waiting for us, but we can take him on.
MegaMan: And we've still gotta take on his "ultimate virus".
Lan & MegaMan: Next time on Rockman.EXE: The College Years, "Project Ultima!"
Lan: Time for us to go to him instead of him coming for us.
MegaMan: Still, I can't help but think that we're walking into a trap.

CHAPTER 2-25
Project Ultima!

"Don't you think it's kinda weird?" asked Sean, "I mean, why would they just give away the location of their base?"

"A, because they know they've been beat. B, because they're sure to win. Or C, because they have no idea what's going on," Axl piped up.

"Isn't it obvious?" Dex scoffed. That earned him a whack upside the head from Chaud.

"Sean's right. They've definitely got something planned for us," the ace NetBattler said calmly, "If past experiences have taught us anything, they've got a super-powerful weapon they want to use on us but can't get it out of their base so they lure us there instead."

"Honestly, are all bad guys this predictable?" Lan sighed.

"Hey, you don't here me complaining," Hub replied to his brother's comment.

"Anyway, has anyone actually gotten any info on the VILE base?" asked Maylu.

"My spy satellite's been looking for it," Yai answered, "It's on a small island a few kilometers northeast of Hades Isle. The conditions are treacherous in that area. Terrible weather and violent waters."

"Nevertheless, we gotta go," Lan said as he stood up.

"So we're all going then?" asked Tory.

"Apparently so," Chaud responded.

"Well then, shall we go by sea or by air?" Sunlight flashed off Yai's forehead as she brought up the suggestions.

"Why not both?" answered Hub, "We'll just keep an eye out for each other."

"Then let's do it." Lan stuck out his hand and everyone piled theirs on top of his. Rush, who had decided to tag along, gave a simple "Aup!"

* * *

"Chaud, are you sure you know how to pilot a boat?" Tory asked as he, Chaud, Dex, Yai, and Rush boarded a boat at the dock on Beach Street.

"I've done it before," the older teen replied.

Meanwhile, Lan, Maylu, Hub, and Sean had piled into a helicopter and were just taking off.

"I didn't know you could fly a helicopter, Sean," Lan commented.

"Fly, yes. Land, no." Everyone's eyes widened.

Oh crap, they thought.

* * *

"My lord, they're coming," Venus reported.

"Just as I thought they would," Lord Viron thought out loud as he crossed his arms over his chest, "We don't want to destroy them just yet, but let's still have a little fun with them. Interface, Venus, and Terabyte, prepare the defenses."

Inside the VILE server, the superviruses swiftly manned their battle stations. On the main window, a grid of the whole area surrounding the island was displayed along with several blips shaped like the VILE insignia surrounding it. Two red triangles moving towards the island indicated the coming of the teens.

"This will be like shooting Shrimpies in a barrel," Terabyte sneered, " J1!"

* * *

As Chaud piloted the boat across the waves, he could just make out the dim outline of VILE's headquarters up ahead.

"I see it!" he shouted over the roar of the wind. Tory pushed against the wind and stood next to Chaud to look at the structure ahead.

"Looks like we're in for a storm!" shouted the chestnut-haired teen. Suddenly, a blast of water shot up just to their starboard.

"What was that?" asked Dex.

"Depth charges!" Chaud exclaimed.

* * *

"Remember, we don't kill them yet," Venus reminded her two co-commanders.

"You don't need to worry about us," Interface replied, "We just need to shake them up a bit."

"How are you doing with the ones coming from the air?" asked Terabyte.

"Locked and loaded," answered the Trojan horse virus, "H3!"

* * *

Just outside VILE headquarters, several metal doors opened up and through them rose sets of missile launchers. They all turned in the same direction and fired.

"Sean, something's coming this way!" Axl warned, "They're surface-to-air missiles!"

"Crap! Everyone hold on!" Sean quickly piloted the helicopter to the side and just barely dodged the missiles.

"Where in the hell would they get SAM sites, anyway?" asked Lan.

"Lan, you can buy anything and everything on the net," Hub answered.

"Oh, right."

* * *

"That was cutting it too close, Interface," Venus warned.

"You just focus on the barrier, woman!" Interface shot back.

* * *

As Chaud did his best to avoid the depth charges and Sean tried to evade the missiles, they began to see the structure of VILE headquarters coming into clear vision. The island it was on was small and covered with nothing but rocks. The base itself was a massive tower shaped almost like a cobra with its body raised and its head bending forward as if it were looking down. On the "head" was the VILE insignia.

"We're never going to get near that island without crashing the boat!" Dex shouted. Above them, Sean was trying his best to hopefully land the helicopter.

"Screw this," he mumbled, "Lan, let's Cross Fuse."

"Gotcha." MegaMan transferred himself to Lan's PET and the two Officials took out their Synchro Chips.

"Synchro Chip, in!"

"CROSS FUSION!"

As soon as the two of them had completed their transformations, R MegaMan grabbed Maylu while R Axl grabbed Hub's body. They opened the door and jumped out just as the chopper crashed into the side of the building.

"Lan, we're falling too fast!" Maylu yelled.

"Leave it to us!" R MegaMan shouted back, "Soul Unison: Gyro Soul Battlechip!" In an instant, he transformed into Gyro Soul and quickly started up his propeller. Meanwhile, R Axl used a Tornado Battlechip to blow a twister towards the ground below him in order to slow his descent.

Meanwhile, Chaud had also performed Cross Fusion and now he stood at the front of the boat holding out his arms at the rocks.

"Double Yo-yo1 Battlechips!" he shouted. His hands morphed into a pair of yo-yo launchers and he deployed the bladed discs forward. They wrapped themselves around some of the larger rocks and held firmly in place. As soon as R ProtoMan was able to confirm that they were secure, he immediately ordered everyone to climb across. Once everyone was off the boat, he pulled himself off the vessel and landed on the island just as the vessel was smashed against the jagged rocks.

"That was close," Yai gasped.

"You thought your situation was close? Try jumping out of a helicopter right before it crashes into a building." Everyone turned and saw R MegaMan and R Axl with Maylu and Hub. The one who had spoken was none other than the blue-clad teenager.

"We can discuss more of this inside!" R ProtoMan shouted over the wind as everyone ran up the rocks to the base of Serpent Bastion. The front doors bore only the VILE insignia while the door frame was decorated with intimidating carvings of two giant snakes.

"Slasher Battlechip!" R ProtoMan's hand morphed into a sword and he sliced open the doors. Everyone ran inside and the three Officials immediately crossed out and MegaMan returned to Hub.

* * *

"They're inside," reported Interface, "Let's see how well they get through our security system."

* * *

Chaud reached into his backpack and pulled out a pair of infrared glasses, which he switched on and placed over his eyes.

"Just as I thought. There are lasers everywhere."

"And there's no jack-in sensor, either," Lan noted.

"I've got it covered!" Yai said brightly. She reached into her purse and produced a mirror. Chaud handed her the glasses and she carefully used her mirror to reflect the lasers away to create a clear path. It wasn't long after the lasers that they reached a locked door.

"Great. Looks like we're gonna have to use Cross Fusion again," Lan thought out loud.

"Wait a second, Lan." Maylu quickly stopped her boyfriend and pointed to the side, "Look at these."

"They're keycards!" exclaimed Hub, "One of them must open the door."

"But which one?" asked Tory, "And why are they all labelled A, C, D, F, and G?"

"Who cares?" Dex responded, "Let's just try one." He grabbed the keycard lablled G and slid it through the scanner.

"Dex, wait!" Lan shouted. Too late. As soon as the card had passed through, a slot in the wall on the side fired a shuriken. Everyone ducked and the projectile flew over their heads and struck the opposite wall.

"Dex, next time think about the possible consequences before you start using keycards at random!" Tory yelled.

"There must be some kind of pattern in these letters," Hub thought out loud, "Okay, what do we know so far?"

"Well, when Dex used the G card, that hole in the wall shot a shuriken at us," Chaud explained, "So one card is bound to open the door while the rest will kill us."

"I think I might know which one to use," said Maylu. She walked forward and took the C keycard. Everyone got down on the floor and waited. With her body against the wall and crouching down, Maylu slid the keycard through. Instantly, the door slid open and a tune played over a speaker.

"How did you do that?" asked Dex.

"I figured that it was a musical puzzle," explained Maylu, "You see, the key of G Major has one sharp, the key of D Major as two..."

"The key of A Major has three sharps, and the key of C Major has none," Chaud finished.

"Exactly."

"Aup."

"I see," Sean commented as he grabbed the A card and looked at it, "So if Dex used this card instead, we would have had three shurikens flying at us."

“What would have happened if Dex had used the F key?” asked Lan, “The key of F Major has one flat, not a sharp.”

"Can we just go now?" asked Dex.

"Yeah. We can abuse him mentally later," Hub agreed and they moved on.

* * *

"They got past the first puzzle," Terabyte reported.

"Let them come," Lord Viron sneered, "I'm waiting for them to."

* * *

The eight teens and one virus soon came up to their next obstacle. On the wall was a monitor displaying a message and a small number pad. Tory walked over to the screen and read the message out loud.

"Balance out the following chemical equation."

_B2S3 + _H20 --> _H3BO3 + _H2S

All eyes turned towards the twins.

"Give us a sec while we converse," Hub requested. The Hikaris turned around and after about a minute, Hub walked forward and punched in the numbers one, six, two, and three. Immediately, the security door opened and they proceeded onward.

"Some security system," Lan muttered, "Seems that everything in this base tests our knowledge of everything we learned throughout school."

"Well it looks like the next one's a calculus problem," Chaud reported as he read the next puzzle.

Find the integral of (x^5)cos(x^3)dx

"I got this one," declared Lan as he stepped forward. He took out a pen and a pad of paper from his bag and started figuring out the problem. Finally, he picked up the electronic pen next to the monitor and wrote under the problem:

= (1/3)(x^3)sin(x^3) + (1/3)cos(x^3) + C

"You are correct," an electronic voice announced. The screen went blank and the door opened.

"Looks like this place has got a problem for each of us," Maylu noted as they continued on up to the top floor.

"And they're apparently not all based on our majors, but rather on which classes we're taking," Hub added as they reached the next puzzle, "Kinda suspicious for it to be a coincidence. This one's an English problem."

"Mine," Sean called. He stepped forward and read the question.

"Wel, what is it?" asked Dex, impatiently.

"It's a passage from a work and I have identify that work," Sean answered. He turned and placed his mouth in front of the microphone on the wall.

"The Fall of the House of Usher." The door opened.

* * *

"Damn, these humans are smart," Interface hissed.

"Don't worry," Terabyte assured his comrade, "The fat one will have the most trouble out of all of them."

* * *

Chaud got past his puzzle with ease. It gave him a business scenario and he had to decide which move would present the most profit. Next was an economics question for which Yai stepped up to the plate. After that was a biology question. Tory answered it without much trouble. Finally, they came to a question directed towards Dex.

"Take your time," Lan said trying to calm his friend down.

"You have three minutes to answer this question," the computer blurted, "In what year did the War of 1812 take place?" Everyone sighed with relief.

This one's a dead giveaway, thought Lan. He looked at Dex and started to wonder why he hadn't answered yet.

"Please don't tell me he doesn't know the answer to this one," Sean whispered.

When was the War of 1812? Dex asked himself mentally.

"This is ridiculous," Chaud muttered as he walked over to the panel, "The War of 1812 took place in 1812."

"I was gonna answer that!"

"You were taking too bloody long."

* * *

The superviruses sweatdropped at Dex's inability to answer the question.

"That was...unexpected," said Venus blankly. Her comrades nodded in agreement.

* * *

"Which floor are we on?" asked Sean.

"Forty-nine," Lan read off the sign on the wall, "Next problem!"

What goes up a chimney down, but can't go down a chimney up?

"An umbrella," Hub answered and they continued on.

I am always hungry.
I must always be fed.
The finger I lick
Will soon turn red.
What am I?

"Fire," Maylu replied.

Michael is younger than Janey. Nick is older than Janey. Is Michael younger than Nick?

"Yes," was Tory's answer.

Solve the following Go problem in one turn.

Sean placed a black stone onto the board and the door opened.

* * *

"Come to me," Lord Viron thought out loud.

* * *

"Looks like this is the last one," Chaud reported.

"Thank God," Lan gasped, "We've been climbing up stairs for like a hundred floors!"

"Actually, it was only seventy-seven," Hub corrected.

"Well, let's see what we've got." Sean walked over to the monitor in the wall and read the last puzzle, "To enter the chamber, listen to me. One in all, all in one. That's the key." Everyone thought for a moment. Finally, Lan reached out and placed his hand on the touchpad next to the screen.

"All in one." Hub placed his hand against his brother's.

"One in all." Everyone followed suit and soon the touchpad lit up and the door hissed open.

"This is it," Lan whispered.

"The final face-off with the leader of VILE," Chaud acknowledged.

"Hey, where's that music coming from?" asked Yai.

Inside the room, the teens could see the imposing figure of Lord Viron standing behind his desk.

"Welcome. I've been expecting you," he greeted.

"Hey, that's my old Shuryou suit!" Sean exclaimed.

"With some modifications to make it my own," Lord Viron added, "I am Lord Viron, the leader of VILE."

"Well, we're here to put an end to your mayhem!" Lan yelled. Lord Viron chuckled as three large screens lit up behind him, displaying the images of Interface, Venus, and Terabyte.

"My superviruses and I disagree with you. My Project Ultima has already been completed and soon I shall release its results onto the net.”

"Big talk for someone who hides in a shadowy office all the time," Tory scoffed.

"Ahem. I'm standing right here," Sean reminded.

"No offense to you, Sean," Hub quickly corrected.

"Indeed so, Hub Hikari," Lord Viron spoke up. The older Hikari twin turned towards him.

"How'd you know my name?"

"I know everything, including the fact that you, Hub Hikari, are really MegaMan piloting a robotic body."

"That was a secret!" Lan exclaimed, "Only we know that. How did you find out about it?"

"I was the one who sent Storm Eagle, after all," Lord Viron reminded him.

"Oh yeah, right. Anyway, we're still taking you down!"

"See if you can beat my Project Ultima, first!"

"Don't worry. We intend to. Hub, go!"

"Gotcha, Lan. Jack in!! Power up!"

"Let's join in," Chaud said to everyone else, "Jack in!! ProtoMan, power up!"

"Jack in!! Axl, power up!"

"Jack in!! Roll, power up!"

"Jack in!! GutsMan, power up!"

"Jack in!! Glyde, power up!"

"Jack in!! IceMan, power up!"

MegaMan, ProtoMan, Axl, Roll, GutsMan, Glyde, and IceMan all landed inside the VILE server where they came face-to-face with the superviruses.

"We are not your opponents this time," Interface informed them.

"Your opponent is through here." Venus held her arms to the side as she floated away from a dark passage.

"Enter if you hope to save the net," taunted Terabyte. MegaMan gulped and walked in along with everybody else. As the descended further into the shadows, they could feel a powerful force just up ahead. Finally, they entered into a large open area. A pair of glowing yellow eyes stared down at them in the darkness.

Meet your destroyer," Lord Viron chortled, "This is the Ultima Virus!" Lights flooded the shadow-filled portion of the server and revealed a giant monster with four legs, grey armor-like skin, spiky shoulders, a pair of large claw-tipped arms, a glowing flashing core in the center of its chest, a long spiked tail, and a grotesque horn-studded head. An eerie purple glow surrounding its body indicated that it was protected by some kind of barrier.

"Let's take that thing down!" yelled Lan, "Mega Cannon Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan's hand morphed into the red cannon and he fired. The blast struck the side of the barrier, but nothing happened.

"I got the barrier," Sean assured everyone, "NorthWind Battlechip in, download!" A freezing wind blew over the whole area and the aura faded away.

"Now let's get him!" shouted MegaMan, "Mega Buster!"

"Roll Arrow!"

"Guts Hammer!"

"Glyde Cannon!"

"Freeze Bomb!"

"Sonic Boom!"

"Axl Gun!"

Excellent! thought Lord Viron as a glimmer of light flashed from his eye. The Navis' attack suddenly stopped short of the Ultima Virus and were reflected right back at them.

"What's going on?" asked Dex, "We got rid of that barrier!"

"No you didn't," Lord Viron cackled. On the screen, everyone watched as color came back to the sphere that surrounded the Ultima Virus.

"My Ultima Virus has several different barriers," the leader of VILE explained, "Each color represents a different type of defense and colorless just happens to be the mirror defense."

"****ing shit," Lan cursed.

"Never heard Lan use those two in the same sentence before," Tory noted.

"You haven't seen him this pissed before," MegaMan called from the computer. A loud crack suddenly broke out as Lord Viron opened his mouth, baring a menacing set of fangs, as he shouted orders to the Ultima Virus in an almost demonic voice.

"Destroy them, my Ultima Virus!"

The Ultima Virus complied and its shoulders began to shimmer. It unleashed a barrage of incredible firepower onto the Navis and covered the whole area with smoke. But it was nowhere near finished as its core fired a powerful beam into the fray. When the smoke cleared, everyone gasped at the state that their Navis were in. All of them were derezzing and most of them were even missing limbs.

"That thing's got amazing power!" Chaud exclaimed in awe. Lord Viron laughed evilly.

"Finish them off, my Ultima Virus! Atomic Destroyer!" The Ultima Virus opened its mouth and prepared to unleash a deadly attack on the Navis. Lan gripped his PET tightly and screamed his Navi's name.

"MEGAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!"

This is why you BACK UP YOUR STUFF ON YOUR HOME COMPUTER. Like we warned everybody they should have been doing after that last big pruning.

Since I'm currently rewriting the chapters I couldn't salvage, I'll answer this now. Yes, Jasmine & Medi will be appearing in season 3, as will Anetta (to answer the question before that).

Well I think the chapters are well developed, though the Ultima Virus plot has been used before in another form. But the one thing, that really didn't appeal tome was in Jailbreak when Blaise/Lucy said "What the blazes/devil is going on?" was really cliched, because of having their Navis named after blazes/devil. But everyone says something that reflects their personalities

Thanks goes to TheWebbuilder and gameman helping me recover most of the chapters that were lost. Only chapter 2-31 is missing, but I can rewrite that one.

I also rewrote most of this chapter to include various bits of information I forgot to include in my first version. I'll have the restored chapter 2-27 to 2-30 up tomorrow.
----------------------------
CHAPTER 2-26
Revelation!

MegaMan shut his eyes tightly and braced for impact. However, it never came. He opened his eyes and gasped. Several Mettaurs had thrown themselves in front of the attack and had blocked it with their impenetrable helmets.

“Who...?”

“Aup!” MegaMan turned his head and his answer stood before him holding a thumb-up and winking.

“Rush!”

“Rush saved our Navis!” Lan exclaimed.

“You’re just delaying the inevitable,” Lord Viron growled.

“We’ll see about that,” Lan retorted, “FullEnergy Subchip in, download!” He, along with everyone else, inserted the Subchips into their PETs and their Navis were immediately restored back to full health.

“Bring it on!” MegaMan challenged. The Ultima Virus roared and fired a set of beams from its eyes. The Navis quickly jumped out of the way and the lasers blasted a small crater in the floor.

“Okay, first we need to get rid of that barrier,” Axl thought out loud.

“If it’s anything like the LifeVirus’ aura, then we’ll just have to wait for it to attack,” ProtoMan replied.

“Well, looks like it won’t be long now,” IceMan commented as the Ultima Virus’ barrier changed to a bright orange color.

“Rush, you better get out of here while you can,” Roll said to the little dog virus, “Don’t worry about us. We’ll be fine.”

“Aup aup.” Rush nodded in acknowledgement and disappeared in a shower of pixels only to reappear next to Maylu in the real world.

“Axl, can you use the Dark Messiah to break through that barrier?” asked Glyde.

“Yeah,” the redheaded Navi replied, “I’m also sure that it can destroy that thing, as well.”

“Then try it guts,” GutsMan urged.

“Not until we can be sure that virus won’t retaliate.”

“Viron said that the color of the barrier determines how it reacts,” Lan thought out loud, “Colorless makes it act like a sort of mirror and when we first saw it the barrier was purple. Right now it’s orange.”

“Leave it to us to figure it out!” MegaMan assured, “Mega Buster!” A blast of pink energy shot from his buster and struck the side of the barrier. Instantly, the Ultima Virus’ core flashed.

“I think orange makes it an energy-absorbing barrier,” IceMan guessed. Right then, the barrier changed to blue.

“Guts Punch!” GutsMan thrust his massive fist forward and it slammed into the side of the protective dome.

“And blue makes it a physical shield,” Roll noted as the barrier changed back to its original purple color.

“Here we go!” Axl yelled.

“BassV3 Battlechip in, download! AntiNavi Battlechip in, download! FireGospel Battlechip in, download!” Sean inserted all three chips into his PET and a copy of Bass and Gospel formed in front of Axl.

“DARK MESSIAH!” The combination attack of Air Bursts and Gospel Breaths pierced through the barrier like a lightsaber and blasted the Ultima Virus until not a single pixel remained.

“Yeah, we beat it!” the Navi cheered.

“Give it up, Viron! It’s all over!” Lan declared.

“You think so, huh?” Lord Viron answered, “Well things have just barely begun. VILE will not fall so easily.”

While Lord Viron was talking, Rush turned his head to the side and noticed a door hidden in the shadows was slightly ajar. Curious, he walked over. Maylu saw him and went after him.

“What is it, Rush?” she asked. The little virus reached the door and opened it. Maylu peered through the opening and gasped.

“Oh my.”

“Aup.”

Standing on some sort of circular platform with his back towards the door wearing strange devices on various parts of his body was the elite researcher and child prodigy Noah Kaiyou. As they stood there watching, the others turned their attention over in their direction one-by-one until they had all gathered outside the little closet space.

“Hey, where are you going?” demanded Lord Viron. His eyes fell upon where the group was standing.

“Oh crap,” He and Noah said at the exact same time, “Power off!” Lord Viron’s eyes darkened and he slumped over slightly.

“Noah Kaiyou?! You’re the leader of VILE?!” Lan asked.

“That is correct,” Noah answered as he pulled off his VR helmet. His hair was hanging loosely and he wasn’t wearing his contact lenses.

“Freaky! He’s got red and blue eyes!” Dex exclaimed.

“It’s heterochromia, you nimrod,” Noah replied as he yanked off his gloves and kicked off his boots. He put his shoes back on and bound them in place with the velcro straps before grabbing his Sabata plushie off the small table he had in the corner of the closet space and stepped out.

“What’s going on, Noah?” Chaud demanded. Noah chuckled as he walked behind the enormous desk that the motionless shell of Lord Viron stood behind. He took his hair-tie out from one of the drawers and tied his hair back into his ponytail.

“Well as we established a minute ago, I am the leader of the Viral Internet Legion of Evil,” replied Noah, “better known as VILE.”

“The Viral Internet Legion of Evil?” Tory asked with a raised eyebrow.

“It was either that or the Despicable Union of Megalomaniacs Bent on Ascending the Social Scale,” Noah informed him, “but that one just sounds so wrong somehow.”

“Whatever,” Lan interjected, “Just give up, Noah, because we’re turning you in.”

“Such classic good guy lines,” the boy laughed.

“He’s got us there, Lan,” MegaMan commented.

“And now you’re going to ask me why I did all this,” Noah suddenly blurted out.

“Are we really that predictable?” asked Sean. Noah took out a tape recorder from his hoodie pocket and pressed PLAY.

“Predictable enough that I was able to record my entire side of this conversation in advance,” his pre-recorded voice answered, “This is my story. I was born into a very wealthy family. However, my parents already had a son who was to be the sole heir to their fortune. They didn’t want anyone else to have it. As a baby, I was often mistreated by them, my brother, and the servants. Then when I was two, they sent me away to study at Mugen All Boys’ School for the Especially Gifted. I was unaware, though, that I was being legally disowned at the same time until much later. My life at Mugen was no better. Everyone treated me badly. I was a scapegoat to bullies and I was always subjected to the school’s harsh rules of corporal punishment. I had to endure the rod almost every single day.”

“Whoa, wait a second!” Lan interrupted, “Isn’t corporal punishment outlawed in Electopia?”

“It is,” Chaud answered, “But Mugen has always been exempt from that law.”

“Exactly,” Noah’s recording continued, “Every day I suffered the harshness of the staff. I eventually found out that my former parents had informed the school that I was a ‘problem child’ and that the most extreme disciplinary measures had to be taken in order to ensure that I stayed in line. My time at Mugen was horrible. Everyone either tried to hurt me or didn’t even bother to help me. Eventually a new headmaster took control of the school and abolished corporal punishment, but the damage had already been done. By that time, I had grown to learn to distrust and despise everyone. I was four at the time and a few months later, thanks to Mugen’s accelerated school program, I received my high school diploma. Because I couldn’t leave the school due to my age, I continued to study and at the age of five I received my Bachelor’s degree.”

“In what?” asked Yai.

“Everything,” the recording answered, “In an attempt to hide from the cruelties around me, I buried myself in my studies knowing that one day I would be able to surpass all those fools. It was also around that time that I began to start my life as a researcher. I had eight books published that year. Just before my sixth birthday, I received my Master’s degree. The headmaster then decided that I should spend some time away from the school. He had looked into my records and discovered that I had spent most of my life at Mugen so I continued my research and resumed publishing my findings. And that’s how I got to where I currently stand in society today.”

“So where does VILE come in?” asked Chaud. Once again, the recording resumed playing.

“Sometime when I was four, I was given an assignment to research and deliver a presentation on some major event that happened involving the net. The first thing I found was an article on the Netmafia Gospel. As I continued to delve further into it, I discovered countless things about it including its operations, its policies, and of course, its leader. When I found that Gospel had been headed by a kid, that inspired me to take up some initiative of my own.”

All eyes turned to Sean, who looked back at them with a “What did I do?” expression on his face.

“However, I was too young to have a NetNavi back then. So I decided to work with something that was available to anyone for nothing at all – viruses. I started off working with basic viruses like Mettaurs and Bunnies, but I eventually figured out how to program better and more powerful ones. My first breakthrough came when I created my first supervirus, which happened to be Interface. I created Venus and Terabyte sometime just last year. Eventually, I used the money I had received through my book sales to purchase this island, build my headquarters, and buy all the equipment I needed. Before long, I had created my empire and thus VILE was born.”

“Can you please stop talking through the recording?” Sean requested, “It’s creeping me out.”

“All of us, in fact,” Tory added.

“Fine. I was getting sick of using it, anyway. Back to me, now.” Noah pressed the STOP button and the recorder stopped.

“You know, most kids my age wouldn’t even be able to dream up something like this,” he commented as he walked around behind his desk.

“I guess when you’re as smart as you are, you can do anything,” Maylu said.

“Yes, such intelligence is very rare,” Noah replied, “Mine even far surpasses yours, Miss Ayano.”

“What did you say?!” Yai asked through gritted teeth.

“Easy there, Yai,” said Sean.

“After all, only someone like myself could have successfully snuck into SciLab’s most secure area and jacked in Genesis’ PET.” At that moment, everyone’s eyes widened.

“You were the one who jacked in Genesis’ PET?!” Lan gasped. Noah chuckled.

“I didn’t mean to gloat, but I guess it can’t be helped at times,” he said casually, “After all, who would ever suspect a little kid of being able to do something so devious? And an elite researcher, at that.”

“Well Noah, you’ve just given us another reason to turn you in,” Sean called to him.

“Noah Kaiyou, as an Official NetBattler I am placing you under arrest,” Chaud announced.

“I don’t think so,” replied Noah.

“Don’t resist, Noah,” Lan responded, “Your Ultima Virus is destroyed. You have nothing left and VILE’s done for.”

“Who said VILE was done for?” Noah asked, “And who said that the Ultima Virus was my ultimate creation?”

“I don’t like where this is going,” Dex mumbled. Chaud, Lan, and Sean stepped back as Noah began to laugh maniacally.

“Heh heh heh, that’s right. The Ultima Virus was just a cover-up to hide my real plan.” Setting his plushie down on his desk, he reached under his sweatshirt and pulled out an ocarina, which was attached to a string around his neck. He put the instrument against his lips and began to play. Inside the VILE server, the Navis were looking around wondering what was going on.

“What’s with the music?” asked MegaMan. Suddenly, a giant black hand burst up through the floor.

“Everyone back!” he yelled. Everyone quickly got away as the hand came crashing down on the floor and a giant black virus pulled itself up. It was several times larger than the Ultima Virus. It stood on four powerful legs. The two at the rear were designed like Tyrannosaurus Rex legs while the front legs were armed with feet and claws like those of a Velociraptor. Its torso was positioned over its legs like that of a centaur. It, too, was covered in a black heavily-armored exoskeleton. Two large shoulders like armor pads protruded out from its body, each studded with spikes that curved upward like horns. It had four powerful arms, two of which came out from the armpits of the other two, each of which was armed with countless spikes and deadly claws. Mounted on its back was a pair of large dragon wings that constantly kept changing color along the visible light spectrum. A long tail armed with a powerful laser-shooting blade swung back and forth as spines ran towards its tip down the virus’ back. Its head was elongated back a bit and was studded with horns and spikes. Its piercing red eyes looked down at the Navis and it opened its mouth, revealing six rows of sharp jagged fangs. Overall, the virus was a living nightmare. Noah took the ocarina from his mouth and put it back under his shirt before picking his plushie back up.

“Meet the Omega Virus!” he shouted.

“That thing’s huge!” Axl exclaimed as the Omega Virus let out a deafening roar.

"Hey, what was the ocarina for?" asked Yai.

"I had the command to release the Omega Virus encoded in the form of a song," Noah replied. The Omega Virus let out another roar and advanced towards the Navis.

“This is the real thing now, guys!” Lan said, “Prepare for the biggest battle of our lives!”

“We’re ready!” the Navis shouted in unison.

“Battle routine set!” Lan, Maylu, Dex, Yai, Tory, Sean, and Chaud declared simultaneously.

“Execute!”

“Omega Virus, Deep Impact!” Noah commanded. The Omega Virus clasped two of its hands together and slammed them down. The Navis quickly evaded it and moved to the sides.

“Lan, this one’s different from the Ultima Virus!” MegaMan noted, “It doesn’t act on its own. It’s following Noah’s orders directly!”

“Gee, I hadn’t noticed,” Lan replied sarcastically.

“Oh, and thanks again to all of you for participating in my research study some days ago,” Noah added, “It helped design the Omega Virus to be able to counter every single one of your attacks.” Everyone looked at each other.

“You guys took part in the study, too?” they asked simultaneously.

“It’s amazing how gullible people can be,” Noah snickered, “especially when people with a high level of fame are involved.”

“You little brat!” Yai shrieked. She walked over to the boy genius ready to smack him, but he quickly pulled out a gun and held it at her.

“I wouldn’t come any closer if I were you,” he warned with a smirk, “Omega Virus, attack Glyde!” The Omega Virus snarled and lashed out with its upper right arm at the brown-armored Navi.

“LifeAura Battlechip in, download!” Yai quickly inserted the chip into her PET and a purple glow surrounded Glyde’s body, which protected him from the Omega Virus’ attack.

“I’m afraid that won’t work,” Noah said calmly, “Omega Virus, Diamond Claw Strike!” The Omega Virus drew back its arm and its claws began to shimmer before it lashed out at Glyde again. This time its claws broke through the LifeAura and struck Glyde with deadly force.

“Glyde!” cried Yai.

“ProtoMan! NeoVariable Battlechip in, download!” Chaud’s PET registered the chip and ProtoMan was instantly armed with the glowing blade. He jumped up and prepared to strike.

“Omega Virus, Tenshouha!” On Noah’s command, the monstrous behemoth slammed its fist into the floor and a giant pillar of light shot and struck ProtoMan from underneath.

“Damn! He really did come up with counters for all our moves!” Chaud exclaimed.

“Roll, go heal ProtoMan and Glyde,” Maylu instructed.

“I’m on it,” the pink Navi replied.

“I don’t think so,” Noah smirked, “Omega Virus, use Bad Medication!” The Omega Virus’ eyes flashed and a purple mist seemed to fill the battlefield.

“What is this?” asked IceMan. Axl formed his visor and did a scan. What he discovered caused a look of horror to appear on his face.

“Roll, wait!” he yelled, “Don’t heal ProtoMan or Glyde!” His warning came too late as Roll’s healing power ended up damaging the two Navis even further.

“Even my powers as a Recovery-type Navi have been counters,” Roll realized with fear.

“It doesn’t matter what we throw at it. That Omega Virus will just use something to use its power against us,” MegaMan sighed, “But we can’t give up. There’s gotta be a way around it.”

“Maybe there is,” Lan thought out loud, “MegaMan, he said that he used our performance in his study to create the Omega Virus, right? But we didn’t necessarily use everything we had.”

“Hey, you’re right, Lan!” MegaMan exclaimed, “You thinking what I’m thinking?”

“I sure am! Activate Style Change: Hub Style!”

MegaMan’s body was engulfed in a sphere of light as two energy rings rotated around him. His bodysuit changed to blazing green and parts of his armor began to shimmer brightly.”

“Hub Style!”

“Hub Buster!” With the Style Change complete, MegaMan morphed his hand into his buster and fired. Naturally, Noah ordered the Omega Virus to counter it but the attempt failed as the shot broke through its defenses and struck the monstrosity in the chest.

“I must congratulate you, MegaMan,” Noah commented, “You actually managed to land a shot on my Omega Virus. But I’m afraid that’s about to change. Omega Virus, Viral Red Sun!” The Omega Virus roared as a black and silver Red Sun emblem appeared over its head and transformed into a black and silver satellite surrounded by dark blue flames. It aimed down at the Navis and fired a steady stream of black meteorites before shooting itself down towards them. The damage that was dealt was heavy, but everyone recovered thanks to their operators sending them Recover300 chips.

“Hey, wait,” Maylu realized, “Viral Red Sun. Isn’t that what Interface called Yai’s Red Sun chip after he infected it?”

“Very observant, Miss Sakurai,” Noah responded, “My superviruses’ infections have also contributed to the construction of my Omega Virus.”

“Noah, you are so low you have to look up to see a snake,” Sean muttered.

“Meh, I’ve heard worse.”

“Well get used to it you two eye color freak!” Dex shouted. Noah’s eye twitched as he glared at the large boy with rage.

“Two eye color freak? Omega Virus, destroy GutsMan!” The Omega Virus instantly changed its target and opened its mouth. A powerful blast of energy burst from the monster’s maw and struck GutsMan with incredible force.

“GutsMan!” Dex cried.

“No one gets away with calling me names like that!” Noah yelled.

“Okay, he’s really mad now!” Lan exclaimed.

“Noah was always made fun of mostly because of his eyes,” Chaud explained.

“Omega Virus, Annihilator Hadoken!” Noah ordered, “Blast GutsMan into oblivion!”

“Annihilator Hadoken!?” Tory exclaimed, “That’s the Tails Clan’s attack!” The Omega Virus clenched all four of its fists and they all began to glow. It let out a mighty roar and thrust them forward, firing a deadly beam from each.

“I don’t think so!” MegaMan yelled. He ran in front of GutsMan and activated his barrier. The beams struck its surface and the protective shield dissipated. However, it had successfully served its purpose.

“Are you alright, GutsMan?” asked MegaMan.

“I think so, guts,” GutsMan answered.

“Isn’t there a weakspot on that thing?” MegaMan asked his operator.

“We’re trying to look for one, but no luck so far,” Lan answered.

“Even if you do find it, your Navis won’t live long enough to exploit it,” Noah shouted, “Omega Virus, Final Genesis!” The Omega Virus closed its eyes for a moment as the battlefield suddenly became dark and a red digital counter appeared over its head.

“What’s that?” Axl wondered aloud.

“The Omega Virus’ most powerful attack,” answered Noah, “Once that counter hits 666, this battle will end and your Navis will be erased for good. Omega Virus, start the count-up.” The Omega Virus’ eyes flashed briefly and the numbers on the counter began to climb.

“It’ll take a minute for the counter to reach one hundred,” the boy genius continued to explain, “So you’ve only got just a little over six minutes to defeat my Omega Virus if you want your Navis to live.”

“This is not good,” Lan said to himself, “MegaMan, try to bring that thing down in less than six minutes!”

“Easier said than done, but I’m not giving up! Hub Buster!” MegaMan fired another shot at the Omega Virus and scored another mark on its hide.

“We’ll all help stop it!” Roll exclaimed, “Roll Arrow!”

“I’m still analyzing that thing,” Axl reported as he continued to stare at the Omega Virus through his visor.

“Well hurry up with that,” IceMan pleaded as he threw a FreezeBomb.

“You won’t last!” Noah laughed.

As the battle heated up even more, the counter continued to rise. A loud beep indicated that it had just hit one hundred.

“We’ve only got a little over five minutes left!” Sean exclaimed, “Axl, hurry up!”

“I think I’ve just about got it!” the redheaded Navi replied, “Yes! The Omega Virus does have a weakspot! It’s located at the base of the back of its neck. It’s marked by the VILE insignia!”

“Did you hear that, MegaMan?” Lan asked, “Get behind that Omega Virus!”

“I’m on it!” MegaMan fired one more shot before he took off.

“We’ll back you up!” ProtoMan called as he and Axl joined MegaMan. However, they were stopped dead in their tracks when the viral behemoth swung its tail at them.

“Watch out!” Axl yelled as the tail fired a laser at them. The three Navis jumped out of the way and landed just a few feet from where the Omega Virus had just shot.

“How do we get up?” asked MegaMan.

“We grab the tail!” ProtoMan yelled. As the tail came down for another sweep, the three Navis grabbed onto it and were lifted off the floor.

“This is not pleasant!” MegaMan cried as the Omega Virus tried to shake them off.

“Jump onto its back!” Axl shouted. On his command, they released their hold on the Omega Virus’ tail and landed in a heap on its back with Axl on the bottom and ProtoMan on top with MegaMan sandwiched between them. They quickly got up and looked around.

“Well, we’re here,” said ProtoMan, “Now to get to that weakspot.” As they started towards the Omega Virus’ neck, the Navis’ path was suddenly blocked by Interface, Venus, and Terabyte.

“That’s far enough,” the Class 5 virus declared as the counter hit 200.

“Don’t you realize that when that counter hits 666, you guys will be wiped out, too?” Axl asked.

“That’s the beauty of Final Genesis,” Interface sneered, “It only destroys non-viruses.” He opened his hand and his claws gleamed brightly.

“We don’t have time for this!” MegaMan yelled, “Get out of the way!”

“We can’t do that, I’m afraid,” Venus replied.

“Then we’ll just have to fight our way through,” ProtoMan declared. And with that, three Navis charged towards the three superviruses. MegaMan found himself fighting against Interface while ProtoMan dueled against Terabyte and Axl squared off with Venus. Back down on the floor, the others saw the commotion that was going on.

“We have to help them!” exclaimed Roll.

“But we’ve got the Omega Virus itself on our hands,” Glyde replied.

Back on the Omega Virus’ back, the battles raged on as the counter reached 300.

“MegaMan, there’s no time for this!” ProtoMan called to the shimmering Navi, “Get to the weakspot! We’ll hold off the superviruses!”

“You got it!” MegaMan fired another shot at Interface before jumping over his head and running up the Omega Virus’ back.

“Get him!” the Trojan horse virus shouted.

“You’re not going anywhere!” Axl interjected as he and ProtoMan blocked their path.

Meanwhile, MegaMan had finally reached where the monstrosity’s back began to slope upward and he started hopping from spike to spike trying to reach his destination. Finally, he reached the Omega Virus’ neck and started searching for the weakspot.

“There it is!” he exclaimed as he saw the small VILE insignia emblazoned on a single spot.

“Hurry, MegaMan!” Lan urged, “The counter’s already passed 400!” MegaMan slid down the Omega Virus’ hide and positioned himself on his back on one of its spikes. He took aim with his buster and began to charge up.

“He’ll never make it!” Noah laughed.

“Don’t count on it,” Lan replied.

“The counter’s just passed 500. You won’t make it in time.” Lan turned his eyes to his PET display and prayed silently. Meanwhile, as his buster began to reach its maximum limit, MegaMan took careful aim at the small VILE insignia.

I’ve only got one shot at this and it’s very small target, he thought as the counter hit 600.

“I don’t think so!” Interface snarled as he leapt away from the fight and ran up the Omega Virus to MegaMan.

“Hurry up, MegaMan!” Lan urged. Finally, the Navi’s buster had reached maximum power.

“Take this!” MegaMan shouted, “CHARGED HUB SHOT!” A massive blast of energy erupted from his buster’s barrel and struck the insignia. His beam pierced through the Omega Virus’ armor-like exoskeleton and came back out through the front of the neck just as the counter hit 665 and stopped.

“The Omega Virus!” Venus cried.

“We must leave at once!” Terabyte informed her, “Interface, return immediately!”

“I’ll see you again, MegaMan!” Interface growled as he jumped back down to join his fellow superviruses and they logged out in a shower of pixels. With its weakspot now destroyed, the Omega Virus collapsed and its body began to break up into pixels and vanished.

“We deleted the Omega Virus!” Lan cheered.

Dundundundun, dun, dun, dun dundun

“What was that?” asked ProtoMan.

“Sounded like Final Fantasy victory music,” Axl guessed.

With the Omega Virus finally deleted, the Navis were all jacked out and returned to their PETs. In MegaMan’s case, he returned to his existence as Hub.

“Well Noah, your Omega Virus has been deleted, “Lan said to the boy, “Give up.”

“Now why would I want to do that?” Noah asked, “Especially since I still have a chance of victory.”

“What are you talking about?” asked Sean, “We deleted your Omega Virus.”

“You ever hear of back-ups?” Noah shifted his gun over to his other hand and popped a disk out from the computer, “This is the Omega Virus’ back-up data. With this, I can restore my ultimate creation in no time.” He slipped the disk into his hoodie pocket and brought his gun back into his left hand.

“How can you do that if you don’t have access to a computer?” asked Hub.

“Face it, Noah,” Chaud said, “You’ve lost and now we’re placing you under arrest.”

“Looks like juvie hall’s getting another one,” Lan commented.

“Whoever said I was going to juvie?” asked Noah. He pointed his gun at the teens and fired. With everyone temporarily stunned from the bang, he dropped the weapon and ran to the back wall. He slammed his hand on a touch pad and a secret door slid open and he ran through it.

“Is everyone okay?” asked Lan.

“Seems like it,” Maylu answered, “Did he miss?” Sean walked over to the gun Noah had dropped and examined.

“Not even close,” he replied, “This is a plastic cap gun.”

“He’s not getting away that easily!” Lan snapped on his rollerblades and took off through the secret passage with everyone else right behind him. Up ahead in the dark tunnel, they could just see the flashing red lights from Noah’s shoes with each step he took.

“Get back here you two eye color freak!” Dex yelled. Somewhere down the corridor, Noah stopped in his tracks and turned around with a menacing look in his eyes.

“WHO’RE CALLING A TWO EYE COLOR FREAK?!?!?!?!” he screamed as he took a knife from his hoodie pocket and threw it down the passage. The weapon struck Dex in the head and he continued running.

“Aaah, he got me!” Dex cried.

“Dex, this isn’t even a real knife,” Sean said as he picked it up off the floor, “It’s rubber.”

“Let’s just hurry up and catch him!” Lan urged as he continued to lead the chase. Up ahead, Noah pulled the drawstrings on a small velvet bag and dropped its contents onto the floor. He smirked and continued down his escape tunnel. When Lan finally reached the booby-trapped area, he slipped and fell flat on his face. His brother bent down and examined the items on the floor.

“That kid things of everything,” he commented, “He’s covered the floor with marbles.”

Meanwhile, Chaud had run on ahead and had finally caught up to Noah. He reached out with his hand and grabbed the boy around the wrist.

“That’s far enough, Noah,” he said.

“Oh really?” the child prodigy asked. He suddenly whipped around and a small red object smacked Chaud in the face. The skunk-haired NetBattler immediately released his hold and backed away as he pressed one hand against his forehead. He looked up just in time to see Noah reel in a small red wooden yo-yo into his hand.

“See you later, Eugene Y. Chaud.” Noah chuckled as he slipped the yo-yo into his pocket. He walked over to another touch pad on the wall and placed his hand against it. The adjacent wall slid open revealing another passage, except this one went straight down. The only thing within the shaft was a single pole. Holding tightly onto his plushie, Noah wrapped his arms and legs around the pole and slid down into the darkness below.

“Chaud!” Lan yelled as he and the others finally reached him, “God, what happened to you?”

“Noah smacked me in the face with a yo-yo,” Chaud answered.

“Wait a second,” Hub interrupted, “A plastic cap gun, a rubber knife, marbles, and a yo-yo…”

“This kid’s beating us with toys!” Lan exclaimed.

* * *

A metallic door slid open and Noah stepped through it into a dark room.

“Power on!” On his command, the lights came on and several monitors and computers came to life. He looked around at his surroundings. Noah was standing in what appeared to be the bridge of some sort of ship.

“Interface! Venus! Terabyte! Get your butts in here!” he called out. Almost immediately, the three superviruses appeared in a shower of pixels at the boy’s sides.

“What is it, sir?” they asked in unison.

“Prepare for launch,” Noah ordered, “It’s time to leave this place for good.”

“At once, Master Noah!” Terabyte turned and left the bridge as he headed down to the engine room. Venus seated herself at the navigation console while Interface took the helm. Noah climbed a short flight of about four steps and sat down in the captain’s chair, which happened to be the perfect size for him. Resting his Sabata plushie in his lap, he took out a laptop from underneath his seat, pulled out a desktop-like extension table from the left armrest, and placed the computer on top of it. He opened it up and started typing while the three commanders of VILE prepped the ship up for launch.

“Engine systems nominal!” Terabyte reported via the ship’s com system. Noah finished typing up whatever he was doing and put his laptop and extension table away. Reaching into the sides of his chair, he pulled out his seatbelt and snapped it over his waist.

“Open the hangar!” he commanded.

Outside Serpent Bastion, a section of the rocky island on which it stood slid open, revealing a large hangar.

Leviathan taking off!” Interface announced. He pulled back on the flight sticks and pressed his foot down on the pedal. The engines roared to life and a giant black airship began to rise. At that moment, Lan and the others arrived at the hangar just in time to see the massive craft take off.

“Is that an airship?” he asked over the roar of the engines.

“Apparently, it is!” Chaud yelled.

The airship rose out of the hangar and continued ascending. When it finally stopped climbing, Interface shifted gears and it shot forward.

“How the hell did Noah manage to pilot that thing out of here?” Lan wondered, “Even if he is a super genius, he couldn’t possibly accomplish all those tasks physically. He’d need help.”

“It couldn’t be other humans,” Hub thought aloud, “VILE works solely through viruses.”

“Are you suggesting that Noah’s called on his superviruses into the real world and they’re running the ship for him?” Chaud asked.

“If you’re smart enough, you can do anything that requires mental work and Noah’s got more brains that a Nobel Prize ceremony.” Lan looked up towards the sky through the open hangar doors.

“So then Noah really has found a way to bring viruses into the real world,” he thought out loud, “without the use of Dimensional Areas or projectors.”

* * *

“Master Noah, what is your next plan of action?” asked Interface as he flew the airship across the sky. Noah looked down at his shoes for a moment as he thought and raised his head again.

“I think it’s time to initiate phase three of the plan,” he replied.

“You mean you plan to use them?” Venus asked.

“It will take time to recompile the Omega Virus. Until that is complete, we can’t have Lan and his friends disrupting us. We shall commence phase three immediately.”

“Of course, Master Noah,” Interface and Venus replied in unison.

Noah looked up at the passing scenery through the windshield of the bridge and scanned the horizon with his red and blue eyes. His lips curled back into a devilish grin as several thoughts ran through his head, sending feelings of sadistic pleasure coursing through his body.

CHAPTER 2-27
Storm of Terror!

"Who would have ever thought that Noah Kaiyou was the leader of VILE?" Lan thought out loud. A few days had passed since the storming of VILE headquarters and Lan and the others had already made it back to the university.

"Have you seen his office in the CAB?" asked Hub, "It's been totally cleared out."

"There's more news, too," Chaud added as he came in with a copy of the city newspaper as opposed to the campus paper, "It says here that he's going back to Mugen to continue his studies."

"Kid sure knows how to hide his tracks," Lan muttered.

"Hey guys," Sean greeted as he entered the room, "Famous and I just got off the phone with Sharo. They'll be sending Laika over to help us with this case."

"Good. We're going to need all the help we can get," Hub replied.

"We're supposed to meet him at the airport tomorrow afternoon," Sean continued, "and they said that we're supposed to address him as Lieutenant Laika."

"So he got promoted, huh?" responded Lan, "Lieutenant Laika. You gotta admit, it kinda has a nice ring to it."

"That's the least of our concerns right now," Chaud murmured, "I'm more worried about what Noah might be up to right now."

* * *

Noah was sitting in the TV room aboard the Leviathan eating a box of chocolate Pocky while holding his plushie in his arms when Terabyte walked in.

"Master Noah," he said, "Pardon my intrusion, but we were wondering if you wish you carry out your plan today."

"In a moment, Terabyte," Noah assured the supervirus, "I'll be there just as soon as Ultraman is over." When the program had finally ended, Noah turned off the TV and headed up to the bridge. He took his seat in the captain's chair and rested his plushie on his lap.

"It's time to begin with the operation," he announced, "Interface, take us to the tallest structure in DenTech City. Activate the cloaking device, as well."

"Yes, Master Noah!" Interface replied. He started up the Leviathan and the airship headed off. As they flew, the Trojan horse virus flipped a switch and the airship disappeared from sight. It wasn't long before they arrived at the tallest building in DenTech City. Interface placed the Leviathan right over the roof and an elevator lowered down from the bottom of the ship, carrying Noah down. When it touched down, he stepped off onto the surface of the roof and started typing on his laptop.

"Come on out and show yourself." Noah looked up as a giant brown virus resembling a baboon appeared. It had big eyes like a bug, enormous hands, and two tubes in its back. Noah smirked as his eyes fell onto his latest creation.

"Spark Mandrill, do your stuff." He packed up his laptop and stepped back onto the elevator, raising him back inside the airship before it took off. The baboon-like virus' hands began to spark with powerful bolts of electricity as he let out a mighty roar and shot them into the air. Dark storm clouds gathered overhead and lightning shot out from them.

Back inside the Leviathan, Noah gazed out the window and chuckled lightly.

"This is gonna be fun," he snickered, "Interface, take us high over the clouds."

"Roger." And with that, the Leviathan began to ascend.

* * *

Lan groaned as he turned around in bed for the umpteenth time that night. For some reason he was having trouble sleeping and to him it was getting extremely irritating. He was hoping to get at least a couple hours of sleep, but so far he wasn't having any luck.

Damn, I hate this, he thought, Normally I'd still be able to fall asleep even after tossing and turning for several hours. He glanced at his alarm clock, which displayed that it was two-thirty in the morning. He sighed and turned around again.

"Can't sleep?" Lan sat up and looked over at Hub, who was also lying awake.

"Yeah," he whispered back, "I guess it's the fact that there's an evil seven-year-old genius out there that's keeping me up." Hub propped himself up onto his elbow so he could make better eye contact with his brother while they spoke.

"It's still hard to believe that someone like him could be the leader of VILE," the elder twin thought out loud, "When we found Sean, he was nine years old and before that he used a fake identity whenever he went anywhere. Noah, on the other hand, used his real name and made a fair number of public appearances."

"Yeah, that's true." As the conversation continued, Lan's eyes fell upon the window. Lightning flashed across the sky and temporarily illuminated the room.

"Looks like we're in for a storm tonight."

"The weather forecast didn't mention anything about a storm," Hub replied.

"Do you really trust the predictions of meteorologists?" asked Lan.

"Lan, one anomaly doesn't really matter that much."

"Whatever. The point is it looks like we've got an expected storm coming up."

"Lan, doesn't that seem kind of suspicious?"

"How so?"

"An escaped seven-year-old evil genius is on the loose, that same evil genius has an airship, and there's an unexpected storming coming. Don't you think there's some kind of relation between those three?"

"Hub, we're not even sure if he's actually succeeded in bringing viruses into the real world."

"We came up with that hypothesis regarding his airship."

"It was just a hypothesis. We're not even sure if it holds. Let's just try to get some sleep."

"Right. G'night, Lan."

"If you can call it one."

* * *

The following morning, Noah was seated in the airship's dining area eating a bowl of cereal while reading the comics in the daily paper. His hair was down and he was still wearing his pyjamas, which were light blue and had images of Master Otenko printed all over it. His right arm held his ever-present Sabata plushie close to his chest.

"Good morning, Master Noah," Venus greeted as she entered the room, "Did you sleep well last night?"

"Yes, as a matter of fact," Noah answered, "It was pleasant. Compared to most nights, anyway. What have you got to report?"

"An Official from Sharo is reported to arrive in the city today. The details can be viewed on the bridge." Noah drank the rest of the milk in his bowl and put his dishes in the sink.

"I'm on my way." He took his plushie with him and headed up to his quarters. He quickly changed, put on his shoes, and tied his hair back before heading up to the bridge.

"What's the report?" he asked as he sat down in his usual seat on the bridge.

"We've got reports that Laika of the Sharo military is coming in," Interface answered, "His plane will be landing this afternoon." Noah looked out the window and at the mass of storm clouds below the airship.

"Looks like we've got our first plot." He pressed a button on his armrest and the image of Spark Mandrill appeared on his side screen, "Spark Mandrill, bring down the plane from Sharo that's scheduled to land at DenTech Airport this afternoon at two." The electric virus nodded and the transmission ended. The boy took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

"Everyone," he called out, "if anything comes up, I'll be in the lounge." And with that, he hopped off the captain's chair and left the bridge. He took the elevator to another level and stepped out into a large open room. Along one wall was a large window that looked out at the horizon. Some sofas and some small tables occupied the center of the floor. Along the wall opposite of the window was a bar, but instead of alcohol it was filled with juices, milk, and various soft drinks. Near the wall farthest from the door was a black grand piano. The room was illuminated by light coming in from the skylight overhead. Somehow, Noah always felt at peace here. He walked over to the piano and sat down on the bench. Setting his stuffed toy down next to him, he raised the cover and started playing. His fingers glided over the keys as a beautiful melody filled the room.

* * *

"Looks like you were right, Hub," Lan commented as he looked up at the sky through a pair of binoculars from their window.

"Hub's always right," the older twin replied.

"Not always."

"Usually."

"Fine, you've made your point. I'm going to check on our mail." Lan put down his binoculars and headed downstairs to the Cameron Hall post office. He checked box 211 and found two envelopes, two parcels, and a flyer inside. He grabbed them and took them back up.

"So, what did we get?" asked Hub upon his brother's re-entry.

"Well, we got our financial aid cheques, a coupon flyer for the pizza place on campus, and two packages from Dad, one for each of us." Hub got up and walked over to Lan, who handed him the package with his name on it. A letter came with each one and both said the same thing:

Dear Lan/Hub,

I heard about what happened recently from Mr. Famous. If my guess is correct, you'll now be forced to fight viruses in the real world. However, because of Hub's/your body, performing Cross Fusion will prove to be more difficult than before due to the fact that you'll most likely be in situations where you're with people from whom you're trying to hide your identity. Therefore, I've sent you these to make your job easier.

-Dad

"I wonder what it could be," Lan thought out loud as he prepared to open his package. Suddenly, Mr. Famous called in.

"Boys, we've got an emergency," he informed them, "The storm that's brewing isn't a natural one. It's being created by some unknown force from the tallest building in DenTech City. This artificial storm could very well endanger the arrival of Laika's plane. I want you boys, Chaud, and Sean to investigate this immediately."

"We're on it, Mr. Famous," Lan replied.

"No need for formalities."

"C'mon, Hub. Let's get over there as quickly as possible," said Lan.

"We better take Dad's packages with us, too," Hub added as he grabbed the parcels and ran after Lan.

* * *

Lan's car pulled up in front of the tallest building in DenTech City and the Hikaris ran out to where Chaud and Sean were waiting for them.

"So it's up there?" asked Hub.

"Yep," Sean replied, "So, who goes up first?"

"Three-way rock-paper-scissors!" announced Lan. He, Sean, and Chaud stuck out their hands and played several rounds. In the end, Chaud had scissors while the other two had rock.

"Ready, ProtoMan?" he asked.

"Ready," answered the silver-haired Navi. Chaud stepped inside the building and took the elevator up to the roof. On his way up, he took out his Synchro Chip and inserted it into his PET.

"Synchro Chip, in!"

"CROSS FUSION!"

Right as soon as Cross Fusion had completed, the elevator reached the roof and R ProtoMan stepped out only to come face-to-face with Spark Mandrill.

"Lan, Sean, come in!" he quickly called to his comrades via the coms.

"Loud and clear, Chaud," Lan answered through his PET, "What's up?"

"It's just as was suspected. This storm is being caused by a virus. And this may come as a semi-surprise, but that virus is here in the real world."

"So Noah DOES have the technology to bring viruses into the real world," Sean thought aloud, "Chaud, try to dispatch of it. We'll be up as soon as possible to lend assistance."

"Roger." R ProtoMan ended the transmission and morphed his hand into his sword, "Virus, your days are numbered." He charged forward and swung his sword out at Spark Mandrill. The virus leapt back and snarled.

"Electric Spark!" Spark Mandril clenched his fist and slammed it into the surface of the roof, sending powerful electrical sparks surging towards his opponent. R ProtoMan quickly jumped away but was unprepared for what was to come next. Spark Mandrill appeared over him and body slammed him hard into the roof.

"So that's how you work, is it?" the red-armored NetBattler asked as he got back up, "Alright then. BambooSword Battlechip!" His own sword disappeared and was immediately replaced by the green blade. He dashed forward and attacked again.

Meanwhile, Sean had just finished performing Cross Fusion and was preparing to scale the outer wall of the building.

"Why scale the outer wall?" asked Lan.

"Because whatever's out there will be expecting me to come out from the elevator since that's what Chaud used to get up there," answered R Axl, "Well, I'm off. I'll call you when we need more back-up. And with that, he extended his wings and started leaping up the side of the building. When he arrived, he quickly summoned his pistols and started shooting at Spark Mandrill.

"What took you?" asked R ProtoMan.

"Don't ask," responded R Axl, "So, what are we up against?"

"So far I've been able to confirm that it's an Elec virus, so Wood element chips are the weapons of choice here."

"Sounds good to me. Boomer3 Battlechip in, download!" R Axl's pistols disappeared as his hand morphed into a boomerang launcher. The two Cross Fused teen then leaped at Spark Mandrill. R Axl threw his boomerang and R ProtoMan swung his sword. The baboon-like virus jumped back and avoided the assault before countering with another Electric Spark.

"WoodAura Battlechip!" R ProtoMan quickly activated the chip and its power shielded him and R Axl from the electrical attack.

"That thing's stronger than all of Noah's old viruses," R Axl noted as he whipped around his partner and fired several Axl Gun shots before pulling back behind him.

"You noticed too, huh?" the older NetBattler replied.

"Yeah. We're going to need to use more power. TomahawkDNA Battlechip!" As soon as the chip's power was activated, R Axl transformed into TomahawkMan and he launched his tomahawk forward at Spark Mandrill. The large virus swung his arms and knocked the weapon away. R Axl muttered something as he caught the tomahawk and re-attached it to his arm.

"StepSword Battlechip!" With Spark Mandrill distracted, R ProtoMan's hand morphed into a different sword and he warped forward, slashed, and reappeared behind the virus.

"That got him!" yelled R Axl.

"Think again!" growled Spark Mandrill. He punched R ProtoMan with his sparking fist and sent him off the edge of the roof. Down on the ground, Lan was looking up through his binoculars and could see the red-armored NetBattler ploughed off the roof.

"Good god, Chaud!" R ProtoMan plummetted straight down and crashed into the ground. He was instantly forced out of Cross Fusion and he laid there. Hub ran over to him and Lan returned his attention to the battle. He watched as R Axl was flung from the roof but breathed a sigh of relief when he sank his tomahawk into the side of the wall, keeping him from falling to the ground. The relief didn't last long as Spark Mandrill slammed his hand against the side of the same wall and sent an Electric Spark that forced R Axl back into his normal self and watched as he, too, fell. The moment he landed, he reverted back into Sean and laid on the ground much like Chaud.

"Damn, he's strong," Sean muttered as he tried to sit up.

"Thank God you were in Cross Fusion or that fall would have killed you," Lan said as he tried to help Sean up while Hub did the same with Chaud. The twins brought their friends to the side and then looked up at the roof.

"Looks like it's up to us now," Lan thought out loud, "Hub, let's get ready for Cross Fusion."

"Lan, wait," Hub interrupted, "What about those packages Dad gave us? He said they would be useful for times like this."

"I guess it's worth a look." Lan took his package out of his bag and tore open the wrapping. What he found inside was a modified Battlechip Gate. However, his was nowhere near as surprising as what Hub received. Inside the elder twin's package was an exact replica of MegaMan's bodysuit and armor. The Hikaris looked at their gifts for a moment and then at each other.

"He can't be serious," they said in unison.

"There's a post-it note stuck to this Battlechip Gate," Lan noted as he began to read the message, "Lan, use this Battlechip Gate to send Hub Battlechips while fighting in the real world. It's been designed so that it'll only respond to the suit."

"It guess it's worth a shot," Hub said, "I need to find a place to change."

"Try behind those shrubs," Lan suggested as he jabbed his thumb at a few city plants behind him, "There's no one else around so you shouldn't have to worry."

"Fine." Hub grabbed his bag and ran off for whatever privacy the area could provide him. After stuffing his own clothes into his backpack, he pulled on the bodysuit, followed by the boots. The power pack snapped on easily onto his back, the shoulder pads were clamped onto place, and he attached the icon firmly to his chest. After pulling on his gloves, he finally grabbed the helmet and slid it over his head. As soon as the protective piece of headgear was in place, his eyes changed from brown to green and his hair from brown to navy-blue.

"I am MegaMan!"

"Let's give it a shot!" Lan announced, "DoubleJump Battlechip in, download!" He inserted the chip into the Battlechip Gate and MegaMan's boots flashed. He took a mighty leap and jumped up several storeys. He continued ascending the outer wall of the building until he finally landed on the roof.

"Virus, you're gonna pay for what you did you my friends!" he called to Spark Mandrill.

"Tough words, but let's see if you can back them up. Electric Spark!"

"RockCube Battlechip in, download!" The Battlechip Gate registered the chip and a stone Rubix cube appeared in front of MegaMan, blocking the attack. Spark Mandrill quickly leapt into the air and prepared to slam his body on top of his opponent.

"AreaGrab Battlechip in, download!" Just before impact came, MegaMan quickly teleported away and Spark Mandrill smashed into the surface of the roof.

"Thanks, Lan," MegaMan said through the com inside his helmet.

"You can thank me later," Lan replied, "Now hit him fast. Vulcan2 Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan clenched his fist as his glove transformed into the gattling weaon and he fired a volley of bullets at Spark Mandrill. They pelted the virus' back hard, keeping him from getting back to his feet.

"This is amazing, Lan!" MegaMan exclaimed, "It's just like as if I were on the net! Dad's really outdone himself this time!"

"You can say that again, bro! Now let's see how Soul Unisons work on this thing. Soul Unison: Proto Soul Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan's Vulcan2 disappeared and his entire suit glowed as it transformed him into Proto Soul. He immediately activated his sword and passed its blade through Spark Mandrill.

"Soul Unison: Nova Soul Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan's sword disappeared and his armor changed from red to gold and his bodysuit was completely re-decorated as his helmet changed form and a golden halo appeared on his back.

"Nova Flare!" His halo shone brightly as he fired a powerful energy blast from the ring and struck Spark Mandrill dead-on.

"This guy's not so tough, after all," Lan commented, "Soul Unison: Crash Soul Battlechip in, download!" MegaMan transformed out of Nova Soul and became infused with CrashMan's powers as he turned into Crash Soul.

"Crash Bomber!" He took aim with his missile launcher and fired. A single projectile shot out and homed in on Spark Mandrill as it shot forward towards him.

"Electric Spark!" The virus slammed his hand against the roof and sent out a bolt of electricity, which intercepted the missile.

"End this quickly, MegMan," Lan commanded from the ground, "FireBlade, AquaBlade, ElecBlade Battlechips in, download!"

"Program Advance!" MegaMan switched out of Crash Soul back into his normal mode as he fused the swords together into one weapon and grasped the hilt, "LifeSword3!" He swung down and the blade sent out a powerful energy wave that cleaved through Spark Mandrill like a lightsaber. He watched as his opponent fell backwards off the edge of the roof and slammed into the ground. Taking a deep breath, he jumped down after him and landed next to his brother.

"Alright virus, tell us what's going on here!" Lan demanded. Spark Mandrill only laughed evilly as he used his last breath to speak.

"I am one of the Z Knights, a set of viruses Master Noah put aside for his invasion of the real world," he answered, "You may have defeated me, but there will be others who shall follow in my stead."

"You gotta be kidding," MegaMan muttered as he pulled off his helmet, changing his hair and eyes back to brown and thus reverting back into Hub Hikari, "How many of you will we have to expect?" Spark Mandrill just laughed again.

"You'll just have to wait and see." And with that, his body was erased.

"Well, that did a lot of good," Hub commented sarcastically.

"But now we know that Noah can bring viruses into the real world, so we have to be careful," responded Lan, "Right now, let's get Sean and Chaud over to my car so we can take them back."

"Right." The twins ran over to where their comrades were leaned against a tree and helped them up.

"Did you get him?" asked Chaud as Lan hauled him up to his feet.

"Yeah, the virus is gone," the headbanded teen replied.

"Hey Hub, what's with the blue spandex?" asked Sean.

"I'll tell you later when we're in the right place at the right time."

"Hey Hub, didn't Dad also include a note that your MegaMan suit could be programmed into your watch so that you could change quickly if you needed to?" Lan inquired.

"We'll find later." After they got Sean and Chaud into the backseat of Lan's car and Hub removed his armor and pulled his street clothes overtop the bodysuit, they four of them drove off to the airport to meet up with Laika. As they headed back, Hub read aloud the instructions that had come along with his parcel.

"Once programmed into the watch, just press the button to change into the suit. Press again to change back into street clothes." Hub looked at his watch and pressed the button near the top. Immediately, his clothes were replaced by his bodysuit and armor save for the helmet.

"The only item that cannot be changed with the watch is the helmet," he continued reading, "which must be put on after changing into the MegaMan suit."

"Guess you can't have it all," Lan commented.

"Apparently not," Hub replied as he pressed the button on his watch once more and his street clothes replaced the suit. He stuffed the helmet into his backpack and zipped it up just as Lan pulled into the airport's arrivals pick-up lot.

"Looks like the sky's clearing up," the older twin noted.

"Well we're here to meet up with Laika anyway. Sean, Chaud, how are you guys doing?"

"We're fine now," Sean answered. Lan nodded and the four of them piled out of the car. After feeding a quarter to the meter, they went inside and waited. It wasn't long before Laika stepped out into the arrivals lobby. The four teens stood up straight as he approached and they saluted.

"Welcome to DenTech City, Lieutenant Laika," they greeted. Laika saluted back and followed them outside.

"What's the status of the situation?" the soldier from Sharo asked.

"Would you like the long version or the short version?" replied Lan, "Basically, we've got viruses appearing in the real world. The long version is right here." He unzipped his backpack and took out a two-inch binder, which he handed to Laika.

"Looks like we've got our work cut out for us," the uniformed individual noted, "We'll meet at SciLab later to discuss this in detail."

Lan: But with Laika with us, we now have a better chance.
MegaMan: You think. Something’s freezing the city.
Lan & MegaMan: Next time on Rockman.EXE: The College Years, “Chilled to the Soul!”
Lan: Doesn’t this seem like an overused plot?
MegaMan: Hey, it wasn’t my idea.

CHAPTER 2-28
Chilled to the Soul!

"Merry Christmas, Hub!" Lan, Yuuichiro, and Haruka cheered. It was Christmas morning and the entire Hikari family was gathered around the tree in the living room opening presents. A good deal of the gifts were addressed to Hub, but Lan didn't seem to care. All that matter to him was that he was finally spending Christmas with his brother in the way he had always dreamed of.

"Cool, I've got stuff from everyone here!" Hub exclaimed.

The Hikaris spent the whole day enjoying their presents and each other's company. By the time night came, the twins were exhausted and retired early. The following morning, they went about their usual morning routine before heading out to SciLab. When they arrived, they found Chaud, Sean, and Laika waiting for them.

"Well, we're here," Lan announced, "What's the scoop?"

"Seeing as it's winter break for us, we can patrol the city for any signs of Noah or his viruses," Chaud started, "Noah himself may spend most of his time in his airship, but we can still scope around for viral activity."

"Anything else?" asked Hub. Chaud shook his head.

"This is probably the shortest meeting we've ever had," Sean muttered under his breath.

"Alright then, let's move out," Laika commanded.

* * *

Noah sat in his usual spot on the bridge typing away at his laptop while Interface sat at his station at the helm.

"Master Noah, how is your next virus coming along?" asked Terabyte as he entered the bridge carrying a small tray of food in his enormous claws.

"Just putting on the finishing touches," the young genius replied, "Is that my lunch?"

"Yes, it is."

"Set it on the extension table." A small table surface slid out from the side of Noah's chair and Terabyte placed the tray on top of it before turning to leave.

"Will you be requiring anything else, Master Noah?"

"No, it's fine. You can go now." Terabyte walked off the bridge and the door closed behind him. Noah's eyes continued to scan the screen as he made the final touch-ups on his newest virus.

"There we go. My next virus is finally complete," he announced, "Interface, how close are we to our destination?"

"We've been hovering over it for the past half-hour," the Trojan horse virus replied as he looked up from his book.

"And you didn't tell me we were there why?" Noah asked as he took a bite from his grilled cheese sandwich.

"I had no desire to disturb you while you were working."

"Fair enough. Alright, prepare to deploy the virus." Noah picked up his laptop and left the bridge.

"On it, sir." Interface set his book aside and flipped several switches on his control board. The bottom of the airship slid open and from the hatch descended Noah on the cargo elevator. He hit the ENTER key on his keyboard and a massive virus encased in red and white armor appeared. It had enormous fists and feet designed to resemble hooves. Several yellow tubes ran all over its body and led into its back. The head was designed to resemble a bull. It snorted once and clouds of frost flew from its nostrils.

"Wreak whatever havoc you desire, my virus," Noah chuckled as he elevator ascended back into the Leviathan. The virus snorted once again before letting out a loud prolonged "moo". It stuck out its hands and unleashed a powerful beam of ice at a nearby building, turning it and the people inside into solid ice.

* * *

Lan stopped his car at a red light while Hub radioed toe others.

"Blue Leader to White Leader, nothing to report here."

"White Leader to Blue Leader, everything's fine over here," Sean reported back as he skateboarded along Beach Street, "Any news from Green Leader or Red Leader?"

"Knock it off, you guys," Laika suddenly interrupted via his own radio, "There's only four of us, so stop using those code names."

"Gotcha, Laika," Sean replied, "So, where should we meet up? I'm on Beach Street."

"Lan and I are in Electown," added Hub, "And the last I heard from Chaud, he was just outside Castillo. What about you, Laika?"

"I'm at the Den Dome," the soldier from Sharo answered, "Okay, so we're all spread out right now. Let's just converge at the center of the city so we can all travel approximately the same distance."

"Okay."

"Fine by me."

"See you there."

Half an hour later, everyone had gathered in Dentown to discuss their next move.

"Looks like we're not getting very far patrolling the streets," Sean sighed as he leaned against the hood of Lan's car.

"We could search the net for info," Hub suggested.

"It's worth a shot. Alright then, MegaMan and SearchMan will take a look in the net. The rest of us will continue patrolling the streets," Chaud instructed. Everyone nodded and headed off in separate directions. Hub and Laika quickly found a place to jack in and did so.

"So what should we do while we wait for our Navis to bring us results?" asked Laika as Lan jacked his decoy Navi into Hub's body.

"I guess there's not much we can do right now," the headbanded NetBattler answered, "Personally, though, I feel like getting something to eat."

* * *

"Well, nothing here," MegaMan noted as he and SearchMan examined countless message boards.

"Does anyone ever delete any of these topics?" asked the sniper Navi. MegaMan shook his head.

"These most recent admins are a real bunch of pack rats. They keep just about anything."

* * *

Chaud was listening to the radio as he drove through the streets when an urgent news bulletin suddenly interrupted the regular news report.

"This just in!" Ribbita's voice announced, "A large cow-like creature has been spotted freezing parts of the city...." That was all Chaud needed to hear. He radioed everyone and soon they had all gathered at the edge of the frozen portion of the city.

"So Lan, you're not using Hub to transform into MegaMan?" asked Sean.

"It was faster just to jack him out back into my PET," Lan answered, "Anyway, let's get this thing going. Laika, did my dad give you one of the perfected Synchro Chips." The blunette nodded and held up the grey object between his hands.

"Let's do it then." Lan, Chaud, Sean, and Laika held their PETs in one hand and their Synchro Chips in the other as they stepped onto the ice. No sooner had they set foot onto the frozen terrain, the bull-like virus appeared before them.

"So you four are the ones who've come to stop me, huh?" he boomed.

"That's right," Lan answered, "Who are you?"

"I am called Blizzard Buffalo and I am going to freeze this city into an icy graveyard." Lan just sighed.

"I'm really getting tired of hearing stuff like this," he moaned, "Hey wait, weren't we just in a situation like this before?"

"Yeah, we were," MegaMan replied from his PET, "Several times, in fact."

"Someone must have put a curse on us," groaned the brown-haired NetBattler. He regained his composure and everyone positioned their Synchro Chips just outside their PETs' chip slots.

"Synchro Chip, in!"

"CROSS FUSION!"

Lan's feet were encased in a pair of blue boots as his hands were covered by a pair of blue gloves. He clenched his fists, opened his eyes, and leaned forward as his and MegaMan's icon formed over his chest. His clothes were instantly transformed into a dark blue bodysuit and light blue lines extended out from the icon to his shoulders, where a pair of yellow shoulder pads appeared. Lan's hair was pressed down against his head as his helmet formed over his head and covered his face with the mouthguard. On his back, the power pack completed firmly attached itself to his body and thus completed transformation.

Black and red gloves formed over Chaud's hands, the backs of which were emblazoned with ProtoMan's icon. Red boots formed over his feet and spikes shot up from the top to his knee. He clenched his fist as he brought his left hand up close to his face and thrust it out to his side. His vest automatically zipped itself up the top portion morphed into armor and ProtoMan's icon appeared. As soon as the black and white symbol had attached itself to his chest, the rest of Chaud's vest and his clothes were transformed into a black and purple bodysuit. A modified version of ProtoMan's helmet formed over his head as his hair extended down past his waist.

Sean held out his arms slightly at his side as his clothes wrapped themselves tightly around him before transforming into a simple grey bodysuit with red stripes running down the sides. Navy-blue armor with red along the edges and down the center of the chest formed over his torso and clamped into place. At the same time, Axl's icon appeared in the center of his chest and his armor extended over his shoulders to form protective pads of similar design. His feet were encased in navy-blue boots with red stripes around the top and ankles and running down the shins. His hands were wrapped in white as navy-blue bracers with red around the wrists and along the outside appeared on his forearms, fusing together with the white portions to create gloves. A small white power pack appeared in the center of his back and from it extended a pair of skinny white wings. Two copies of Axl's icon formed over Sean's ears and the helmet formed between them. White crests appeared along the sides as a yellow visor and a navy-blue and red mouthguard covered his face while his light grey hair emerged from the back of his helmet until it was the same length and style as Axl's.

Green armor appeared over Laika's torso and clamped into place. As soon as it touched is body, his uniform changed into a dark grey bodysuit and grey and green shoulder pads appeared. His hands were encased in green gloves with SearchMan's icon on the backs of each hand. Square-ish green boots clamped themselves around his legs and matching armor rose halfway up his thighs. Next, SearchMan's helmet appeared over his head and an orange visor slid down over his eyes. Finally, he held out his hand as a handheld version of the Scope Gun appeared and he grabbed it, ending the Cross Fusion sequence.

"Prepare to be erased, virus!" R MegaMan declared. Blizzard Buffalo ground his hoof against the ground before charging forward like a mad bull. The four Cross Fused NetBattlers leapt out of the way and watched as the virus shot past them.

"Search Grenade!" A grenade appeared in R SearchMan's hand and he pulled the pin out with his teeth before throwing it at Blizzard Buffalo. It exploded and did some damage, as well as shrouded him in smoke.

"Axl Gun! ElecShock Battlechip!" R Axl summoned one of his pistols and combined the Elec-element chip's power into it. As a result, his weapon morphed into an entirely new gun and he aimed it at Blizzard Buffalo.

"Plasma Gun!" Several bolts of electricity shot out from the barrel and struck the giant virus from behind. R Axl quickly ceased fire and retreated just as the target burst from the smoke.

"SuperVulcan Battlechip!" R MegaMan's hand changed into a SuperVulcan and he unleashed a hailstorm of bullets at Blizzard Buffalo. The massive creature mooed loudly and charged. The blue-clad NetBattler quickly activated Ice Soul and slid away to safety.

"Graceful swan outwits lumbering ox!" he called, chuckling at his own smartass comment.

"Lumbering ox steps on annoying gnat!" Blizzard Buffalo shot back, "Frost Shield!" He formed several pellets of sharp ice crystals and launched them forward. At the same time, he created three IceCubes in front of him and punched them forward.

"NeoVariable Battlechip!" R ProtoMan leapt in front of R MegaMan and his hand morphed into a NeoVariable Sword. He drew back his arm and fired a multitude of Sonic Booms that intercepted Blizzard Buffalo's attack.

"Looks like we're way out of your league, virus!" R MegaMan yelled, "It's us four against you, so just give up already if you want to live." Blizzard Buffalo just snorted.

"You brat. I'm willing to die any day for Master Noah," he replied, "My existence is meaningless compared to his cause."

"And just what would that cause be?" asked R ProtoMan.

"You'll find out if you survive this battle! Freeze Beam!" Blizzard Buffalo held out his hands and fired a massive beam of ice straight at his opponents.

"Axl, ready to initiate our new Style Change?" asked R Axl.

"You betcha!" Axl replied from inside him. R Axl's icon began to glow and his body was engulfed in a brilliant light. The navy-blue on his armor change to bright white as all the red turned into light purple and his bodysuit into a pale shade of crimson.

"How did you activate a Style Change in Cross Fusion?!" asked R MegaMan.

"I'll tell you later," replied R Axl. He dashed forward and quickly disappeared from sight.

"Smart move," R SearchMan commented, "The color of his armor allows him to blend in with his surroundings."

"Well if he's THAT camouflaged, I'm afraid to attack in case I hit him," said R MegaMan.

"You can't see him, but I can." R SearchMan held up his sniper rifle looked through the target scope. He watched as R Axl made a pass behind Blizzard Buffalo and cleared the way before he fired. A single shot burst from his rifle's barrel and it struck the icy ox in the chest.

"Grr! Where is that runt?" Blizzard Buffalo turned around and swung his arms, but couldn’t find R Axl anywhere.

"Looking for me?" He turned his head and saw the white-armored teen casually leaning his back against the side of his leg. He grinned.

"Yes, now just hold still." Blizzard Buffalo raised his arm and prepared to smash it down, but a small glimmer shone out from R Axl's eye.

"I don't think so. RingZap3 Battlechip!" A ring of electricity surrounded the white-armored Official and dealt a powerful shock to the virus. R Axl then removed his mouthguard and visor before putting two fingers in his mouth and whistling.

"Sounds like our cue to attack," R MegaMan noted, "Let's do it. If Sean could do it, so can I. MegaMan, activate ElecGround Style!"

"I copy, Lan!" MegaMan said from within R MegaMan, "Activating ElecGround Style!" A yellow light surrounded the blue-clad teen and transformed him into a Cross Fusion version of ElecGround Style.

"Scope Gun!" R SearchMan took aim and fired another shot from his rifle, this time striking Blizzard Buffalo in the head.

"StepCross Battlechip!" R ProtoMan's hand morphed into another sword and he warped over to the massive virus before dealing a powerful double slash.

"ZapRing!" R MegaMan fired off an electrified ring that tore through the ice on the ground and struck Blizzard Buffalo, paralyzing him, "Tera Volt!" He then raised his arms and countless bolts shot out from his body and converged on one single target.

"My defeat shall not be in vain!" screamed Blizzard Buffalo, ""Master Noah, I relinquish my life for you!" He collapsed and his body was instantly deleted.

"Okay," R Axl thought out loud, "I've heard of loyalty to the end, but this is ridiculous." The four of them quickly crossed out and put away their PETs and Synchro Chips.

"At least the ice is thawing," Lan noted, "Let's report this to Mr. Famous and go home."

"Sounds good," Sean replied.

"Fine by me," Laika put in.

"Whatever," was Chaud's response.

* * *

"Blizzard Buffalo has been erased, Master Noah," Venus reported. Noah leaned back in his chair and hugged his plushie tightly as he contemplated the situation.

Now there's four of them, he thought, Things are starting to get risky. And with two of my Z Knights gone, I'm going to have to upgrade the others. He reached into his hoodie pocket and produced the disk containing the back-up data of the Omega Virus.

"But in the end, it'll all be so that I can release the Omega Virus into the real world." Noah locked the disk inside a hidden compartment next to his right armrest and laughed.

CHAPTER 2-29
Berserker!

"Second term can be such a drag," Lan moaned as he took another bite of his donut.

"Tell me about it," Yutaka groaned as he took a sip from his coffee mug.

Winter break had ended and now everyone was back at the university ready to take on the burden the second term was bound to weigh them down with. Obviously, not everyone was particularly enthusiastic about it. At that moment, only Yutaka and the Hikari brothers occupied the Cameron Hall lounge.

"C'mon, guys. Lighten up!" Hub said cheerfully, "I'm sure something'll come up that you'll enjoy. After all, everyone has something to look forward to."

"Hub, sometimes you can be so weird," Yutaka moaned.

"This coming from a guy who's as straight as a corkscrew," CrashMan muttered.

"CrashMan!" Yutaka hissed.

"It's okay," said Lan, "We're cool with it."

"You are?" the first-year asked. The twins nodded.

"Just don't bring it up when you're talking to Chaud," Lan warned.

"Thanks guys. Well, I better head off to class. Stop by the chip shop later." Yutaka slung his backpack onto his shoulder and finished off his coffee before heading out.

"Smooth, Lan," Hub commented.

"Hey, I couldn't care less about people's imperfections," the younger twin replied, "When it comes to making friends, personality is what really counts. Why do you think I have so many worldwide?"

"Good point. No prejudices makes more friends."

"Bingo, bro."

"I kinda like that policy." The twins turned and saw Sean walking in with Maylu right behind him.

"God makes us who we are, so we should just live with what He gives us," Sean finished off as he made himself some tea.

"Well said," Hub complimented as Lan greeted Maylu with a kiss.

"So, what's everyone's schedule for the term?" Lan asked.

"Well, first I've got English followed by psychology. Next comes a break ending off with theater studies," Sean answered, "Tomorrow and Thursday, I've got the whole morning free but then my drama class is at twelve-thirty and right after that is studio art."

"First I have education followed by English, then history," Maylu read off her schedule, "After that, I have music. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I've got philosophy. And I may be required to start doing some student teaching later this term."

"Wow, Maylu. You sure are determined to becoming a music teacher," Lan said.

"What about you boys?" asked Maylu. The twins grinned at each other and started reciting their schedule in unison with one another.

"First we've got computing sciences followed by math. Next comes a break. After that, we've got physics and then later on in the term we'll have our chem lab. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we begin with virus busting followed immediately by chem class. In the afternoon, we've got our physics lab and our virus busting lab."

"Can you guys please not talk like that?" Sean requested, "It's creepy. You look like a pair of twins from some horror movie."

"Sorry," they apologized simultaneously. Sean had to restrain himself from strangling the Hikaris before he grabbed a donut from the Tim Hortons box on the counter and left for classes.

* * *

Noah impatiently stood in front of the bathroom mirror as he let Venus groom him for school. When she finished, he tied his hair back and went to his quarters to change.

"Master Noah, we are almost ready to depart," Interface informed him as he knocked on the door to the boy's room.

"I'll be there in a moment," Noah replied. A moment later he came out wearing a white short-sleeved dress shirt with the Mugen logo on the collar, a pair of grey pants held up by a set of black suspenders, a pair of grey socks, a pair of black shoes, and a grey high-collared jacket with red along the cuffs and the top of the collar. He finished fastening the clasps of his jacket and grabbed a black leather briefcase-like bookbag off the floor next to his desk and his laptop before following Interface down to a small hangar near the back of the Leviathan, where a black helicopter waited. Interface opened the back door and Noah stepped inside and sat down. As soon as the supervirus took his place at the pilot's seat, he transformed into something closely resembling a black-haired FBI agent with black sunglasses.

"Ready, Master Noah?" he asked.

"Ready." The hatch opened and Interface piloted the helicopter out of the airship. As they flew across the sky, Noah was busy typing away on his laptop.

That should complete the upgrades, he thought, Prepare to come alive, Z Knight number three. Satisfied with his work, he deployed the virus onto the city and it appeared in a dark alley. It resembled an orange dog with red triangles on its arms and legs meant to resemble flames. Large holes covered his wrists, ankles, and back of his hunched over body. Live flames occupied the tip of his tail, his shoulders, and the small of his back. Noah glanced out the window to see hif he could spot the virus before he signalled Interface to fly on to Mugen All-Boys School for the Especially Gifted.

"Make me proud, Flame Hyenard."

Back down on the streets, the virus, Flame Hyenard, was now walking along the sidewalk after coming out of the alley.

"Well well, what have we here?" A couple of street thugs walked out carrying pipes, baseball bats, and one had a knife and approached the virus.

"Looks like some sports team lost its mascot," one of them jeered.

"Wonder what they're called?" another asked, "The Underdogs? The Hopeless Hounds?"

"It'll be fun to beat this guy up," the knife-wielding thug laughed. They started closing in when Flame Hyenard suddenly started howling and screaming.

"Aaaaaaarrr, it hurts!" He thrashed his arms around wildly, causing some of the thugs to back away.

"He's just trying to look dangerous!" one thug shouted, "Trash him!" He picked up his bat and ran towards the virus. Flame Hyenard swung out wildly with his arms and knocked the thug into a wall on the other side of the street.

"This guy's mine!" another thug announced, cracking his knuckles. He was a big man with bulging muscles and large fists. He moved in and threw a punch, striking Flame Hyenard across the face. It was a big mistake and his last one. The canine virus barked and before anyone knew it, the thug was engulfed in flames. When the fire finally receded, there was nothing left but a small pile of ashes.

"It's a monster!" another goon screamed.

"Waste it!" another yelled. The gang rushed in, but Flame Hyenard knocked them all back and incinerated them.

"It hurts so much!!"

"You ready, Axl?" Sean asked as he sat on one of the numerous sofas in he CAB during his break that day.

"Yeah, let's do it," his Navi replied.

"Activate Style Change." Sean input the command and a white Style Change symbol appeared on his PET. Instantly, Axl's bodysuit was changed to pale crimson, his armor turned white, and all the red he possessed changed to light purple. In addition, his hair also took on a light greyish-blue color.

"White Axl Style!"

Axl looked at himself and gave his operator a thumb-up.

"Style Change successful." Sean smiled at his and Axl's success and ordered his Navi to revert back to normal before he put his PET away.

"Hey Sean, nice new Style Change." The grey-haired teen turned and saw Tory standing right behind him.

"How long have you been standing there?"

"Long enough to see you guys perform your Style Change. I'm impressed."

"I'm glad you like it. Thanks."

“What are its benefits?”

“Axl’s defense and speed are raised significantly, the limits on his hover ability are removed, and he can sustain a transformation indefinitely. Whereas Stealth Mode just gave him the power of invisbility.”

"Nice. So what's this I'm hearing about viruses appearing in the real world?" Tory asked as he sat down on the sofa adjacent to Sean.

"You remember that kid genius Noah, of course. Apparently, he's found a way to make his viruses appear in the real world and now we're busting our asses trying to destroy them."

"Ouch. How many have you guys beaten so far?"

"Noah's only released two viruses so far, and they've both been deleted. Their names were Spark Mandrill and Blizzard Buffalo."

"And as usual you're trying to find a pattern, aren't you?"

"Yep. Unfortunately, I can't confirm anything with just two viruses. I need more info."

"Maybe this'll help." Tory took out his PET and activated the display. IceMan opened up a life video file of DNN News.

"And as you can tell from this footage, there is a wild flaming out-of-control dog rampaging through the city," Ribbita announced.

"Yes it does, Tory. Thanks," Sean said. He pulled out his phone and quickly called up the others. As it turned out, the twins and Chaud were in their respective classes, leaving only Laika to be free.

"Two of us is better than one, I suppose. See you later, Tory. I've got a virus to bust." Sean quickly put everything away before running off.

Noah was sitting in the Mugen study hall surrounded by students asking him questions about virtually everything.

"Convert this problem into fraction form and you're through, Daichi. Junpei, your biggest problem is in distinguishing the difference between adverbs and adjectives. Kyosuke, you need to balance out the number of atoms of each element when you balance out a chemical equation. Shobu, force is mass multiplied by acceleration. Hirokazu, for the last time, babies don't come from the stork." Amidst the chaos surrounding him, it was only by some miracle that Noah was able to hear his phone ring. He grabbed a few iron nails and scratched them against an old black chalk slate. That silenced everyone. He picked up his phone and answered it.

"Hello? Yes. Yes. I see. I'll be right there." Noah shut off his phone and turned to everyone, "Please hold your questions for later. There's some business I have to attend to." He grabbed his bookbag and laptop and left the study hall. The moment he stepped outside, he could see Interface waiting inside his helicopter and walked over.

"What's the situation?" he asked as he boarded the aircraft.

"Flame Hyenard has gone berserk, Master Noah," he replied, "Apparently, he can't handle the upgrades you gave him."

"Then I'm going to have to make some adjustments." Noah closed the door and opened his laptop as Interface took off, "Take me to Flame Hyenard."

Sean was riding on the back of Laika's motorcycle wearing a spare helmet as the blue-haired soldier rode through the city as they searched for signs of the virus.

"I said slow down!" the teen yelled over the rush of wind. It wasn't long before they finally found Flame Hyenard after following a long trail of scorch marks and burning debris.

"I am so not getting a motorbike," Sean mumbled as he got off and removed his helmet.

"Aaaaaaaarrrrr, it hurts!"

"The reports were right. This thing IS out of control," Laika noted.

"And that's going to be rectified right now!" Sean and Laika looked up and saw a black helicopter descend onto the street. The door slid open and out stepped Noah holding his laptop in his hands.

"Noah." Sean reached for his PET as his crimson eyes met with the boy's dual-colored ones.

"Well Mr. Obihiro, I haven't seen you since our last encounter at Serpent Bastion," Noah greeted with a slight chuckle, "And this must be Lieutenant Laika from Sharo."

"This is the leader of VILE?" Laika asked Sean.

"As unbelievable as it might seem, yes. VILE is headed by a kid."

"I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got school to get back to," Noah said in a mock-disappointing tone.

"The pain! It hurts!" screamed Flame Hyenard.

"Flame Hyenard, I am here for you," Noah called to the virus. He typed away on his laptop and soon Flame Hyenard stopped crying.

"The pain is gone now!" he exclaimed.

"I relieved you of it," the child prodigy replied, "However, those two over there are the cause of your pain. Destroy them before they get another chance to hurt you again." A twinkle of light flashed from the corner of Noah's blue eye as his lips curled back into a grin as Flame Hyenard turned to face Sean and Laika.

"So you're the ones who have been causing my suffering!" he barked, "Then, if I destroy you, it will all end!"

"Noah, get back here!" Sean shouted as Noah boarded his helicopter and flew off.

"Sorry, but like I said I have to get back to school." And with that, the chopper disappeared.

"I'm going to tear you from limb to limb!" screamed the fiery virus. Sean and Laika immediately pulled out their PETs and inserted their Synchro Chips.

"Synchro Chip, in!"

"CROSS FUSION!"

Within a matter of seconds, R Axl and R SearchMan stood ready and able to fight.

"Burn!" Flame Hyenard cried, "Burn to the ground!" His flames flared up and he shot fireballs at the two NetBattlers that exploded in a spherical blaze.

"Guard3 Battlechip!" A giant Mettaur helmet appeared and fell on top of R Axl and R SearchMan, protecting them from the flames.

"You can't hide forever!" barked the virus, "If you don't come out, I'll burn this city into cinders!"

"Over my dead body!" R Axl yelled through the metallic hat, "StepSword Battlechip!" The helmet popped off and the grey-haired teen warped forward and slashed with his sword.

"Scope Gun!" As soon as R Axl pulled away, R SearchMan fired a shot from his rifle and struck Flame Hyenard's shoulder.

"Burn to the ground!" The hyena-based virus suddenly split into three copies of himself and all of them attacked at once, "Circle Blaze!"

"AntiFire Battlechip!" A statue of a dragon appeared in front of R Axl and it engulfed the attack into its mouth before retaliating with its own fiery blast.

"BubbleSide Battlechip!" R SearchMan held out his free hand as it morphed into an aqua blaster and he fired a jet of water at the center virus. His attack hit its mark and it spread out and hit the other two.

"Nice shot!" R Axl complimented.

"SearchMan's a sniper. Of course it was," R SearchMan replied.

"Let's surround them!" Suddenly, the two of them found all three Flame Hyenards running around them in circles. They pressed their backs together and watched as they ran around continuously, keeping them enclosed for easy targetting.

"Got anything for this situation?" asked R SearchMan.

"Yeah, but first we need to find which virus is the original," replied R Axl.

"Even I can't tell which one is which. These are very good copies."

"Well then, time for plan B."

"What's plan B?"

"Hit 'em all! Slasher Battlechip!" R Axl's hand morphed into another sword and he drew his arm back, "Kaitengiri!" R SearchMan ducked as his partner spun around and slashed all three viruses at once. Two of them disappeared, but one was thrown back; the real Flame Hyenard.

"Circle Blaze!" the fiery virus quickly leapt back onto his feet and shot off another set of fireballs. However, his opponents were ready.

"Program Advance! Triple Bubbler Battlechips!" R SearchMan put away his sniper rifle as his hand morphed into a powered-up aqua blaster, "BubbleSpread!" He fired and a powerful stream of water struck Flame Hyenard, knocking him far down the street. When he got back up onto his feet, all of his flames had been extinguished.

"My turn!" R Axl declared, "Program Advance! AntiDamage, AntiNavi, Muramasa! Bodyguard!" He snapped his fingers and several shurikens shot down from above onto Flame Hyenard, impaling him multiple times.

"Where do those things come from, anyway?" asked R SearchMan as he scanned the skies.

"You know, I never really thought about that," R Axl answered as the last shuriken deleted Flame Hyenard, "Anyway, now it looks like we have to clean up this mess that virus left behind. Repair Battlechip!" A red toolbox appeared in his hands and he used its contents to repair all the buildings that had been in Flame Hyenard's path of destruction while R SearchMan used a few aqua chips to wash off the scorch marks. R Axl had to leave after a few minutes in order to attend the rest of his classes, but Lan and MegaMan arrived on the scene to take over for him afterwards. By sunset, everything was restored to the way it was before Flame Hyenard's attack, save for the people he incinerated.

I hope we don't have to do something like this every time we finish destroying a virus," Lan sighed as he set the broom he was using aside and sat down on the curb.

"If we're fast enough, we won't need to," MegaMan replied. As he sat down next to his brother, he removed his helmet and pressed the button on his watch that changed him back into Hub.

"That's three viruses so far," Laika noted as he stood next to the brothers, "Just what is that child planning?"
