Let's try this again, but real mature-like. Got it?

Thank you, Izumi.

Now, as I'd like to say here, I was NOT the creator of that last thread's contents. I forgot to include that, and I'm a DS fanboy.

Damn it.

o.o; I'm sure putting that really would have helped >.>;... alot...

Anyway... As of now, I'm neutral for both. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. GBA beats them both out so far, so it's all good =P.

Personally, I feel that both systems are a major letdown. The DS, while functional, is neither aesthetically pleasing nor offers any number of enjoyable games. Of course, this hopefully will change in the future with the release of the new colors and new games.

The PSP has some major drawbacks, the square button is occasionally nonresponsive (a flaw that was let bypass because fixing it would require shrinking of the screen), the browser capability exists but is locked out to all but the most savvy of manipulators, the screen is highly susceptible to dead pixels (a friend of mine, who works at GameStop, complained one day last week of several dozen PSP returns at her store for dead pixels) and though very snazzy looking it is crafted of materials that will look dingy very quickly. This was a problem with the original GBA that was thankfully fixed for the SP and DS, but the PSP screen is even more fragile and doesn't have the same protection offered by, say, the Game Gear, original GBA or other past handhelds.

The DS is also flawed in the fact that the thumb device is clearly made for adults and males - in other words, the majority that has large hands. I can't use the thumbpad - my hands are too small to comfortably hold the thing while putting my thumb on the touchpad. At 22 years of age it seems like I have pretty much quit growing, and thus will never be able to use the damn thing. Also, graphics wise, whether or not it meets PS2 standards, the PSP is still head and shoulders above the DS.

Neither system is particularly portable. The PSP is quite long and the DS is a freaking paperweight. Overall, I'm quite disappointed with both. It seems like one step forward, two steps back - what happened to "portability" being the goal?

Heheh, I really hope they pull the new Gameboy off better. As for hand size. I agree with you, Izumi. The DS's thumbpad is horribally positioned for kids and people with small hands. I find that very ironic, because NDS appeals to a lot of kids. I don't like PSP's position for the Analog stick. It seems like it would work better with kids and people with small hands >.<;. It really hurts my left hand to hold it like that >.<;.

Oh, if I imported ToE, I would like PSP better. But I already have Eternia on PSX, therefore I probably won't =P.

GBA SP Beats all three :D

Seriously though, the only reason I would EVER get a DS would be if a new Rockman or Pokemon game(Excluding Dash) was EXCLUSIVELY released on said handheld.

...And I wouldn't buy a PSP Unless they signifigantly dropped the price and found a way to fix the dead pixels issue(And acted on it!).

Actually, I've been hearing rumors about a new GBA coming out within the next few years, so personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with my SP. :puku:

Well, I must say I'm gonna go with the PSP. I've played both systems, but I must say I'm dissapointed with both. The PSP has some control issues, but I can live with that. As for the DS, I find it to be a bit heavy and as for the controls, I've about had it. It hurts my thumbs to play with the control pad, and the stylus pen hurts my hand and confuses the heck outta, mainly with Mario 64 DS. As for the games, I'm going to say Sony, because Nintendo has no excuse as to why there are less than 30 games out for the DS since launch, and Sony had about 25 at launch alone. As for everything else, both systems do indeed have their own things that make them unquire. The DS has a microphone, which can be used like a phone, (that's what I've read), and has 2 screens, which is a big help for some games, especially shooters and RPGs. The PSP, on the other hand, can play MP3's (don't say that it can't hold alot, I've tested it myself), videos and store digital media, such as pictures and the like. In terms of multiplayer and online, I'd go with Sony because they already have some Online-Ready games, while Nintendo is coming out with one in the future. Also, the PSP has a good base for up to 4-way multiplayer, because the PSP unit it self can be used as a game host, and I'm not too sure about the DS.

So, to sum it all up:

Quality of system itself:
DS = PSP

Games:
DS<PSP

Hardware:
DS<PSP

Graphics:
DS<PSP

Control:
DS = PSP

Other add-ons, extras and the like (MP3 players, microphones, etc..):
DS = PSP

Developer Support:
DS<PSP

Multiplayer and Online support:
DS<PSP

Customer service:
DS>PSP

System design:
DS = PSP

Overall potential:
DS = PSP

Those are my thoughts...And honestly, I dont see what all the fuss over which system is better is all about. Everyone has their own feelings and opinions, and everyone should respect that fact. And as for what I personally think of the systems, I'm not going to get a DS until Nintendo releases some Online-ready games that make good use of the touch screen, or any game that makes good use of it, for that matter; And I'm not going to get a PSP until the Memory cards get cheaper and WipEout Pure or NeedforSpeed Underground 2 goes online, at that point in time I'll be wating for Coded Arms.

Augh. Don't even get started on GameFAQs. -_- The MMBN1 forums were tight, but with MMBN2, the *@#& hits the fan. ;_;

I could've cried with all the flaming I got there.

Anyways, I could've sworn the PSP had better hardware than the DS...

I got it in a mass e-mail, but I believe the creator is: proto nick, from my forums, since he posted it under my name, also.

So...you were yet another victim of the aristocracy that is the GameFaqs boards? Sigh. Anyone that tries to climb the ladder there is usually whacked right off by the people with higher standing. It's really quite sad, but I can see its use. It is sometime quite sadistically pleasureable to watch a n00b go down in a blaze of infamy, but it is still sad to see how power is distributed there.

I'm getting out of content here, but this is my last OOC post. I'll try putting in some PSP news in the middle.

Well, I wouldn't call myself a victim in the end, but more of a retarded rebel. I kept on posting like a complete moron, yet, under the TOS rules, and whenever one of the Elites would make one simple grammar mistake, I mocked their behavior (which is also under the TOS rules) by making a 3 page essay on why that particular person needs to get a life, and so on with their list of insults.

It was pretty fun actually. XD I was the most hated person there.
---

Anyways, I think the lack of DS games is due to the fact that most companies just do not want to make use of the touch screen, as simple as that.... And if they do, it'll be a very stupid use of it, like to choose option menus (Sprung! / The Urbz) and to play little mini-games. (The Urbz)

I'd just like to point out, that in case this hasn't been covered yet...

Sony did eventually acknoledge the square button problem (no, they didn't resize the screen, but I believe they offered to replace PSPs with unresponsive square buttons), AND the dead pixel problem. The fact they did it late doesn't help them any, but they are offering replacements if yours has either problem.

My personal view on the systems? They both have their flaws. I've never been a fan of portables to begin with, but I will admit that the latest systems have had me reconsidering my stance.

Anyway, the DS has VERY promising features, but it hasn't had the software support it should've in the past months after release. I haven't seen any DS game that makes me go "Wow, I really need to get in on this portable gaming thing." I hope the titles coming out later this year will prove me wrong.

As for the PSP, it looks nice, but I can't get past the price tag on the system AND games, as well as the fact that using it for anything else (movies/music) involves buying an overpriced proprietary Memory Stick. I'm waiting through 2005 to see the new developments with both systems, especially in the multiplayer/online arena, and maybe then I'll consider picking one up.

I'll probally get a DS when they lower the price and get different colors out but on mario 64 DS unless I'm fighting bowser or playing a minigame I don't have to use the stylus but it does kind of hurt my hand after awhile.

Yes, the PSP has it's drawbacks. It has more problems. BUT IT DOES A CRAP LOAD MORE. What are you expecting? Fragile? Yes. Awesome? Yes.

I just think Sony's FINALLY done something right with the PSP.

I don't really like the touch pad on the DS. Yes, it's intuitive and intriguing, but I just don't like it.

The PSP will win out. It's going to have A LOT of accessories.

I just returned my PSP. There was nothing was wrong with it and it was great, but for the price I just felt I couldn't take it with me. I also felt as though I had to constantly wipe the screen off. I'm gonna stick with my DS and GBA SP. I have alot of hope for the DS, but with the money I got back from my PSP I am gonna buy a new GBA SP (The buttons are starting to go).

My ideal is;

PSP = Made for roadtrips
DS = Made for on-the-go gaming.

PSP can amuse you to no end while on a road trip, while due how fragile it it, it would not be good for on-the-go gaming.

DS would be great for on-the-go gaming because of how durable it is and how the games can last you quite a while. I wouldn't want to be playing with the touch sceen all the time on a road trip, so I would watch Spiderman 2 or play ToE (If I get it >.>)
