Here it is! (http://www.mechadrake.com/ttyw24.html) For those of you who haven't given up on me. XD
But wait! I do have a long, drawn-out explaination for the delay. I put it up on my LJ, but the post is Friends-only, so I'll cross-post it right here and, um, sanitise it. XD
If you're new to all this and just want to start at the beginning, here's chapter 1. http://www.mechadrake.com/ttyw1.html
____
I admit it. I've been neglecting the fanfic for far too long, and God knows it's hard enough to follow without the sporadic updates. But hear me out. There are reasons for my hesitation.
First of all, no matter how long it takes, I don't plan to abandon the 'fic by any means. I'm sure it'd be easier to read it from start to finish once it's done, anyway.
Second of all, I am a very flighty person. I had absolutely no schedule for my writing, and I still don't have anything set in stone. If I sit down at this specific computer to write, I usually end up just checking my mail 50 times like a kid with ADD chasing a plastic bag. ("Plastic bag, plastic bag, plastic bag...!") I get distracted easily. Plus, when I start to write for the sheer pleasure of it, I think to myself that I should be writing something profitable. "Oh, but I don't feel like doing that just this second," I tell my Nazi of a brain, and we fight about it and nothing ends up getting done at all (I write occasionally for 1UP.com).
Lately, I have found means of rectifying this, namely writing in a nearby coffee shop at God's hour in the morning, when nobody's around and the tea is good. So I am getting writing done in a timely manner very recently, including TTYW. I'd been stuck on TTYW 24, picking at it here and there, never getting anywhere with it. Once I implimented the coffee shop solution, I wrote six, seven pages in two days.
The bad news is that my laptop dies a little every time I use it, so I don't know how long this'll work for. XD If anyone's looking into getting rid of an old notebook that's still in decent shape (working battery highly preferred), talk 2 me.
But there was another problem that was keeping me from stripping my clothes and running free through the fields of prose. I was worried about the two and a half people who accuse me of Mary-Sueing, specifically with the Mechadrakes. It got me worked up about maintaining a balance between my fanstuff and X and Zero, that writing the chapters became awkward and unfun.
Then I said to myself, _screw it._ Hell no, it doesn't mean that my fancharacters are going to take over the story. Frankly, I love writing about X and Zero the most. And, well, Genesis, to be honest. But it also means that they're going to appear when they're supposed to, and my fancharacters are going to appear when they're supposed to. Nothing's going to feel forced or unbalanced anymore. It's all about the pole dance of the stars, baby.
I know some of you aren't into the whole fancharacter thing, and that's cool. But I can't deny how bloody _fun_ it is to write about Mechadrakes fighting Reploids, and each other. If someone sounds the Sue Alarm because one of the 'drakes gives Zero a bit of a scratch, let them. If it means that X and Zero sit out a chapter in the name of plot/character development, that's fine as well. The story is a Megaman X 'fic, first and foremost, but it's too stressful to make sure that everyone's getting their daily dose of Zero. It's not to say that my characters are going to appear more than Capcom's. It just means that I'm going to cut the hell loose and stop doling them out in controlled portions.
I came very close to selling one of my original stories before the magazine's submissions queue died (argh!). That story featured some of my characters, like Jake, Celeste, and Caillou, in a non-Megaman X setting, and it went over well. I'm arrogant for saying it, but they were born and developed within my fanfics, and I think they've earned the right to stay there. And after writing Megaman fanfics for 10 years, I think I've earned the right to enjoy the process. This is why I don't begrudge people who want to insert original characters into their soup. As I once told a friend, there is no better whelping box than a fanfic.
So take the fanfic for what it is, and enjoy it, damn it! Now, X and Zero were honestly supposed to star in this chapter, it even says so in my outline notes, but the chapter was getting far too long. But now that I've gotten things sorted out, the next chapter will not be far behind, and I mean that. Certainly not six months behind, anyway. _________________ http://www.mechadrake.com |

Lady Dra'conia'mat,
So good to see you again.
How come you stopped sending out the Email updates of your stories?
I haven't gotten a Mailing list update since chapter 10 or so.
Anyways, Good to see you around again.
I hope you can finish this soon. (Yeah right, as if it's so easy to write this stuff.)
Ja, ne?
Sincerely, Hasegawa Rayven

Thanks guys. ^^
Hasegawa: I disbanded the mailing list some time ago because it wasn't really necessary anymore. I post my chapters on my page, on fanfiction.net, and assorted message boards. :) Plus, Yahoo! groups was too obsessed with stuffing my emails with ads. _________________ http://www.mechadrake.com |
