Well, let's see...
Number 1, most of the characters were given name changes, excluding the main characters such as Yugi, Kaiba, Bakura, Marik, Shadi. Yanno, the important characters.
Number 2, many of what the card monsters looked like were changed slightly to suit Kids WB's standards. For instance, Barrel Dragon's laser cannons were originally guns, Dark Magician and DMG had cult symbols on their brooches, and many of the female monsters were sorta...toned down.
Number 3, A couple episodes were fused during the first season and had much of their footage fast-forwarded for Kids WB with an original song put in. On the DVDs (the edited version DVDs too) the episodes were not fused.
Number 4, 4Kids ended up complicating the origin of the Pharoah a LOT in the early episodes. By doing this, and screwing up the story, they only made things a lot more complicated. For instance, the Pharoah's name was never "Yami", Gozaboro Kaiba wasn't trying to "digitize the entire world", Marik's plan was drastically different, etc.
Number 5, any implication of the Shadow Games were leading to death, was changed to the loser being "sent to the Shadow Realm". In the original, the Shadow Realm is simply the place where Shadow Games take place. When the loser is defeated, they are given a penalty game, and they...yanno, DIE. Examples, the "dark energy disc" from Arkana's duel was originally a saw that would cut the loser's legs off, the "shadow box" from the duel with Lumis and Umbra was a bomb that would shatter the glass underneath Yugi and Kaiba and they'd get squashed, and the box that was about to be dropped on Tea was full of dynamite.
Number 6, the power of FRIENDSHIP...the messages of working together and depending on your friends to support you are still in the japanese version, but they're played up WAAAY too much in the english version, mostly through Tea's speeches...
Number 7, this has no official confirmation yet, and I won't be sure until this weekend...but I think the entire saga where the secrets of the Millenium Items and the Pharoah's past are finally explained...is being TAKEN OUT. Like I said, no official confirmation of this. |

Then what WAS Gozaboro's plan in the Japanese version?
Also, you'll notice that Gozaboro's voice in Grand Championship sounds NOTHING like it did in the Virtual World saga. You know, FYI. _________________

Here's a site I go to everyweek so I can watch the dub without ever getting angry about it. http://www.yu-jyo.net/ These edit list sites are a great help for (4kids) dubbed animes. |

Actually, with this one, many of the cards were changed in the dub version of the show due to the changes that Konami had requested when the actual trading cards were printed for the card game outside of Japan as they had to follow certain rules and regulations(back then, people felt that this was Upperdeck's doing, but they know better now). As such, 4Kids had to follow suit by adjusting to the changes. In a number of cases though, 4Kids have made the changes before the actual card became released outside of Japan and the card game follows suit. |

Ganondorf- Correct, and some of the cards that WERE already edited for the card game, were actually edited even MORE for the tv show.
Osiris- To be honest, I forgot. I haven't seen those japanese episodes in a long time, but I KNOW that wasn't his original plan. Plus, he and Noah died, they didn't get trapped in there forever. Yeah, in the Virutal World saga he was played by the same VA as Marik, but in Grand Championship he's played by Ted Lewis, who plays Bakura and Bandit Keith. |

So in that sense, some cards in the show pretty much received a double edit. The first one coming from the actual card from Konami following those rules, and the other coming from what 4Kids wanted to change, also following those rules and maybe adding something of their own into the mix. To add an example of 4Kids editing a card before the real card is released outside of Japan, take Etoile Cyber from GX. That card was editted on the breasts by giving it clothing, yet the actual card won't be released for another month through the Elemental Energy Sneak Preview. Konami may use the same edit as what 4Kids used, or they might use something else entirely. |
