***Authors Notes: This story takes place during the time when Zero was on his own from the rebelion, a time during which it is unclear what happened to him since there has been no official release from Capcom. The events that transpire in this story of fiction, and done just to fill in a gap in the storyline. This story has violence, and may cause eye strain as well as gasping for air or sleeplessness depending on how long you take to read it. Rockman Zero 1.5

Chapter 1 : For Endless Fight
Chapter 2 : Remits of A Past Lost
Chapter 3 : Resistance Force
Chapter 4 : Imminate Storm

Chapter One

“It has been almost two months since I have awoken in this world. A world that is new and at the same time strangely familiar…”

A blue-eyed figure says as his hand grabs hold of a large slab of stone from a fallen building, pulling his body out from the rubble of a collapsed building. His armor-clad body soiled with the fluids of those he had killed and the grime of the surroundings. The crystal blue eyes look out over the devastation leading into the desert, a broken road covered with sand blown over it from storms long past and wreckage of cars and other transports dotting along its route into the dunes and mountains in the distance.

“Since my awakening I have always been fighting… fighting to protect people I just met against a force that was lead by someone I thought was a connection to my past. But he was a fraud! A worthless copy of a friend I had before my long sleep…”

The red boots of the armored figure launch him into the air, making him soar over the last of the barricades leading into the vast wastes that was once great forest decades past. He lands heavily on the road, part of the aged pavement giving from the impact before he takes off running towards the horizon.

“But with him gone, what is there left for me to do? I can’t return to the others, I’d only bring more that would want to kill me…”

A large eruption of sound causes the red clad figure to turn quickly, his long blond hair whipping around him as he does to look at the source. The large silhouette of a yellow transport rises over the ruins to the ancient city, its insect like cockpit lowering as the sides fold up to show missile racks hidden from with in its body and two machine gun like plasma cannons come out of the mandible like protrusions from the cockpit. As the craft hovers in the air a large contingent of blue clad cycloptic foot soldiers start to come over the man made hills of ruined buildings, their single red eyes glowing in the twilight skies leading towards nightfall.

“There is only one path for me to take right now…”

The lone figure holds his left hand to his side, his white covered fingers wrapped tightly around his buster gun as he holds it at the ready.

“… I must fight!”

The red warrior raises his weapon quickly and fires off several shots as he breaks once more into a run, firing over his shoulder and using the various wrecks of cars as shields from the return fire. The well-aimed shots do their tasks of taking out some of the large group, but did not slow their progress as they continue forward with their weapons, some offering covering fire for those advancing. The large craft overhead bows its nose down as it moves forward on its vertical jets, its forward guns lacing the ground with fire to provide assistance to the ground forces.

“I really messed up this time. Oh well, no sense in complaining about it now.” Zero states to himself as he dashes forward, bounding up into the air off of the top of a boxcar left in a pit in the road.

The crimson warrior spins around in the air, pulling his saber out as he does and hurls it forward in its boomerang form. The green energy blade slices the air towards its target, cutting into the forward cannons of the Neo Arcadian craft. As the pilot of the ship tries to regain control from the sudden drop of weight, Zero discharges a charged shot from his handheld gun, the cockpits windscreen shattering and falling down on the ground like a green crystal rain. The pilot covers his head with one arm as he looses control of the craft once more, its nose and jets pointing towards the ground in a death dive. The ancient reploid lands on the ground at the same instant that the craft does, its yellow armor crumbling like tissue paper till the fuel cells ignited and turned it into a fireball on the ruins of the road.

Zero catches his saber with one hand as it returns from its mission, holding it in his left hand with the buster gun in his right. He turns around quickly and sees the army of Pantheons come to a halt, their red eyes flashing for a moment as if communicating something to one another without using verbal means.

“Heh, looks like that craft was helping to coordinate their attack. I’ll have to remember that next time I come up against a group like this.” The blond says as he crouches, “Still, I can’t let these guys follow me any further!”

Zero charges forward into the thong of Pantheons, his saber forming a shield as he does to reflect shots back at their sources. As he reaches the end of his dash he throws his saber once more, the blade cutting down a number of the blue armored soldiers before starting its return trip back to him in the same deadly fashion. His buster sings with energy as it fires out round after round of charged shots into the masses. The assorted Pantheons start to break from their formations, scattering to take cover from the surprisingly vicious attack of the lone reploid. The battle rages for several more hours till a single figure remains standing amidst the smoldering rubble and bodies of the dead.

Zero leans heavily on his triple rod, the weapon advancement given to his saber to form a long fighting staff with a charged energy tip. As he stands there he spots the remains of a tarp caught on a jutting piece of rod iron from an over turned roadway, the cloth was torn and tattered, aged brown by the elements and now was swaying in the wind. A deep rumble of thunder causes the crimson warrior to look up, a few drops of rain starting to fall around him and quickly picks up-tempo. His white-fingered hand grabs hold of the cloth material, pulling it around him as the rain starts to pour from the heavens.

Zero fastens it into place like a cloak as he holds his weapon with one hand, the staff retreating back to form a saber once more. “This should help keep sand and dirt from entering my body, I still haven’t recovered from the wounds that fake X gave me. These guys didn’t help much either.” He says looking at the corpses around him.

“Looks like they want to continue this fight even without him.” The crimson warrior says to him self, “Fine then I’ll fight back at every turn.”

Chapter Two

The blue gray light of the moon shining down on the forgotten road along with the dampness still in the air from the storm present a new set of challenges as Zero makes his way through the desert night. He passes by only a few carcasses of transports now every few miles as he continues into the vast wastes. The crimson legend pauses as he reaches the remains ruins on the side of the road, the remains of a large structure that now seemed more like the collapsed shell of a house of cards. A distant rumbling of thunder alerts him that another storm is quickly making its way towards him on the lonely night.

“Might as well Zero, not like you have many options out here.” He says to himself as he steps into the open doorway into part of the collapsed building.

His booted feet kick up a layer of dust from sections still covered by the roof, while other parts of the floor reflected the moonlight in pools of clear water. Placing his hand on one of the walls a layer of ash crumbles, revealing part of a faded icon on the wall that draws his curiosity. The blue-eyed warrior brushes the wall gently, flaking away layers of aged ash and sand that had covered the marking. A faded symbol of a large D on a star quickly came to view under his white fingertips, showing the walls secret that it had held for untold decades.

“This… this is familiar to me, but I can’t remember why.” Zero says as he steps back looking at the wall and its icon as a thunder clap sounds loudly in the halls.

The lighting flash uncovers more of the surroundings in its light as clouds cover the moon quickly and the wind starts to howl from a new storm. Zero makes his way deeper into the vacant structure, his curiosity driving him forward, rain filtering down from holes and cracks to dampen his brown cloak.

“Doctor don’t do this!” A voice echo’s dimly though the hall as he continues on, “We have the anti-virus.”

“There is no other way, I won’t be used any more. Go now, both of you save yourselves.” Another chimes in, “I must repent for what I have done, and this is the punishment I choose! Now go!”

Zero steps into a large open octagon shaped room, its walls marred with burns from lasers and buster fire along with slash marks from a saber. The floor was covered with sand that had filtered in from the outside through holes in the ceiling that now let in the pouring rain and flashes from the lightning outside. Standing in ruin at one side of the large room was a massive metal structure, its inner working showing and rusted with age with the head of a reploid on top of it. The skin of the reploid had long since worn away with time, looking more like a metal human skull sitting atop a heap of scrap iron. As Zero looks on his eyes follow burn marks in the floor to another figure, or what was left of one. Large dynamo like shoulders were crushed and crumbled with time, as was the head of the being that was broken in several places. All that was left of the former body was now part of the upper torso, the rest seeming to have been destroyed in a battle where there was no victor.

“I must repent for what I have done, and this is the punishment I choose…” echo’s a voice as Zero’s looks at the remains before him.

Zero sits down in one of the dry corners of the room, looking at the devastation and ruin of two reploid bodies. “So… this was the era I was from? Looks like I went to sleep and woke up in a world no better then the one I left behind.”

The blonde lowers his head with a smirk, his crystal blue eyes closed. “Bits and pieces of a past that was once mine, and a legend that is known to all except for me. Someone up there must be having a good laugh about this about now.”

“In any case…” Zero says as he looks up at the moon peeking out from behind the dense cloud cover. “At least I’m not the one that is still alive.”

***

Zero steps out of the darkness of the ruins into the bright light of a new day, his body a bit rested from a short charging cycle. As he looks around a small breeze kicks up sand around his feet, causing him to look down for a moment. His azure eyes lock on the small pebbles trembling near his boot and a deep rumble reaches his ears as the ground before him shoots upward as if hit by a large fist. Zero’s eyes shut as his arms fly up to cover his face from the sand, his cloak pulled back by the sudden wind. A loud beastlike cry causes him to open his eyes and lower his arms to see the cause of this sudden upheaval.

A large mechaloid towers above him, its cylindrical body segmented like a large work, with part of its body still buried in the sand. Its head has three moving mouthparts and a single red eye on its forehead. As it opens its mouth to let out another scream, Zero could see that the inside was lined with grinding gears made for smashing rocks or even metal from the reploid hand he could see caught between two stuck grinders.

“Let me guess, you came for a snack right big guy?” Zero states as he pulls out his buster, “Sorry pal, but I’m not on anyone’s menu!”

The mechaloid lets out another scream as it dives down at Zero, its mouth open to consume its new prey. The crimson warrior jumps quickly as the beast charges at him, his booted foot barely making it out of the jaws of the creature as it slams its mouth shut. He rolls on the ground as the mechaloid smashes into the ruins, causing it to further collapse in on itself and bury the past once more. Zero fires his buster gun at the side of the beast as it tunnels through the ruins before vanishing once more, his shots only scorching the armor plating of the monster.

“Well this isn’t good.” The blond says as he feels the ground tremble once more under his feet.

The ground swells for a moment under him before the mechaloid bursts out once more from directly under him, Zero springing off of the closed mouth of the beast and firing his weapon down at it. The mechaloid shakes its head violently at the attack, striking Zero and sending him flying into the rubble of the ruins. His left hand hits hard with the weapon on a jagged edge of rock, causing it to spark as the casing is pierced. Zero looks at the weapon curiously for a moment.

“All this time fighting, and now you break on me!”

The crimson warrior didn’t have time for further comment as the beast charges down at him once more with its mouth open. Zero grabs his saber quickly as the beast takes him into its mouth, jamming the blade into the metal roof of the beast and activating the rod function. The expanding handle holds the mechaloids mouth open as Zero holds onto his saber, the beast thrashing its head about to try and dislodge the violation to its mouth. Zero grits his teeth as he holds on for his life, the monster now using its powerful jaws to snap the obstruction in its mouth. The handle to the rod starts to whine as it holds the jaw open, small cracks developing in its length.

Zero aims his buster into the throat of the beast, “Alright, you want something to eat then swallow this!”

As Zero pulls the trigger his rod snaps and shatters, the jaws of the mechaloid clamping shut tightly as it dives back down into the sand, vanishing from sight as it tunnels under the ground for a few more kilometers. A mechanical vulture lands on the ground near the ruins, pecking at the ground for any water left in the sand to help cool its systems. The metal bird jumps back suddenly as an emerald green blade stabs up from under the sand, and slowly drags itself along a short length of the ground. The bird approaches the sliced sands, now turn to glass by the temperature of the blade, only to be startled off once more as a hand explodes from it and slams itself on the ground along with and arm. The rest of the body soon follows as Zero pulls himself out of a quickly filling hole.

The sand covered blond pants as he looks at the pit leading to the now vanquished mechaloid.

“Like I said, I’m not on anyone’s menu.”

Hallelujah! Another story that is not a MegaMan Zero Novelization (I am so sick of reading those).

I like your writing style; you have an excellent way of describing things that grabs one's attention. Excellent.

Thanks, I'm working on the third chapter along with a few other things. I'll hopefully have an update before the end of the month.

This might be the last update post of a fanfic of mine for a while since I will be moving in a few weeks and it takes me a while to get these things done.

Chapter 3:Resistance Force

Zero treks through the vast wastes of the desert under the light of the moon, his body chilled from the drop in temperature without the sun. His tattered cloak was still wrapped around his body as he makes his way across the dunes of sand, looking over his shoulder he could see the dots of distance lights of his relentless hunters, stalking him even at night.

“All of this just for me, I guess I should feel honored that those crones are still following me and not the resistance.” The crimson warrior states as he sees them continuing after him in the distance. “Well boys, I could let you all wear yourselves out… but since you might just keep coming I think I’ll send those Generals a message.”

The blue pantheons stalk over the tracks left by their query, their glowing red eyes shining down on the footprints in the sand as they march. The group soon stops as their leader sees the tracks stop, his head looking along the ground for any more tracks only to find none. The pantheons look around them confused by the sudden lack of tracks, their various weapons held ready as they try to compute what it might mean. The sand behind the leader suddenly explodes upward as the moonlit warrior brings his green blade down on the leader of the group, cutting the pantheon in half. Before the halved bot could fall, the crimson warrior pulls his buster quickly from its holster and fires. The shots find their marks fine as their targets fall to the ground smoking from the single shot to the head.

The blue pantheons quickly regroup and start to fire at Zero as he puts up his shield boomerang, the energy shot bouncing off of the spinning disk in all directions. Some of the shots return back onto the pantheons, causing them to either dodge or be hit by their own attacks.

“Okay, maybe this wasn’t such a good idea.” Zero states as he stands there holding back attacks with his shield.

A large explosion causes the pantheons to halt their attack, some of their comrades falling to the ground in pieces from the blast. Zero turns quickly to see a tank sitting on one of the dunes in the distance, and two more pulling up next to it that soon fire their own blasts into the crowd. Zero turns back to look directly into the face of one of the pantheons as it also turns away from the sight of the tanks. The blond shrugs with a smirk before he delivers a hard right across the head of the blue warrior, dropping him like a sack of potatoes to the sandy soil. He slings his boomerang into the mass of Neo-Arcadian soldiers as he jumps back with his buster firing.

To his amazement a series of other buster fire soon erupts from behind him and strikes its targets in the pantheon horde. The blond turns and catches his wayward weapon to see a group of tan clothed reploids with green berets along the dunes closest to him.

“Well I’ll be, a resistance cell.” Zero states as he turns back and continues firing into the slowly decreasing numbers of Neo-Arcadian soldiers.

***

Zero looks at the group of reploids slowly making their way through the corpses of the now extinct Neo-Arcadian hunter group that was after him, the other reploids taking parts and supplies from the fallen ones.

“Scavenging for parts and ammunition.” Zero states at the sight, “Almost like grave robbery.”

“In most cases it would be, but in ours its survival.” Says a reploid from behind him sitting on one of the tanks, “We have to do this so that we can keep going and keep our machines going as well.”

Zero turns to look at the robust looking reploid, “And who exactly are you?”

“My name is Surge, and this my blond man is the 17th Mechanized Corp of the Southern Resistance.” The reploid says as he pulls out a cigar and pops on end into his mouth, his dusty hair was partly spiked and eyes a color of red he had not seen in a while. “We were cut off from our home base in one attack and have since been living out here fighting patrols and what ever Neo-Arcadian scum we can find. So, what are you doing out here?”

“Trying to find some answers.” The crimson warrior states as he looks back at the scavenging reploids.

Surge looks at him curiously, switching the cigar from one side to the other. “They seem to be after you so you must have done something to get them to come after you.”

Zero closes his eyes with a smirk, “You can say that. I killed their leader X.”

The reploid drops his cigar as he looks at Zero in shock, “YOU KILLED X!”

The sudden declaration drew the others attention as they all turned and looked at Zero, the crimson warrior turning on his heels and starting to march with his back turned to the group back into the desert. The group behind him murmurs in astonishment as they stare in awe of the strange reploid.

“Just who do you think you are to make such a claim!” Surge barks from the tank’s turret.

The crimson warrior stops for a moment, then continues walking further up a dune. “Someone that you are better of forgetting about since all I seem to bring is trouble to those around me.”

“You’re Zero aren’t you.” One reploid says from the crowd.

“Zero, I thought he was dead.”

The blonde pauses in his tracks and keeps his eyes closed, “Not dead, just a slept for a long time only to wake up to a nightmare.”

***

“Master X is dead, Phantom is dead, and so are a number of our students.” Leviathan says sadly as she looks out over the city of Neo Arcadia from its towering central structure. “What are we going to do now?”

“My desert forces have reporting sighting Zero out on the Dune Sea, the last reported contact was three hours ago when they came under attack by that demon.” Fafnir snarls as he looks at the female reploid dressed in a blue gown, her blue hair cut to shoulder length.

Leviathan’s crystal blue eyes look at the youngest of the three remaining Generals of Neo Arcadia, the green clad Harpuia was still standing in his armor and looking out another large floor to ceiling window at the city below. She moves silently behind him and wraps her arms around him in a slight hug.

“What is it brat, you haven’t said much since your meeting with the council of what happened.” The aquatic reploid says kindly, “Did something happen?”

The young reploid nods as he looks at his helmet in the crook of his arm, and the pale hands of his fellow guardian. “I told them everything that has happened and they want to keep it from the public. Nothing is to be released to them, not even the deaths of Phantom or Master X. They have also appointed someone to rule in his place.”

Fafnir snarls as he runs his hands through his short black hair, “Some dumb young no nothing no doubt.”

Harpuia smirks a bit, “Young but not dumb. They appointed me in Master X’s place.”

The pink clad reploid steps back in shock as he looks at the armored reploid in Leviathans arms. “They did what!”

“They put me in charge of Neo Arcadia.” The aerial general states, “All of the command and control functions of Neo Arcadia are now under my control.”

“But this is outrageous! I have more experience then you do, and I know how to handle these resistance groups!” Fafnir snaps as he leaves the room in anger.

Leviathan tightens her arms around the younger reploid gently, “He’ll get over it. I think they made an excellent choice in picking you to take Master X’s place. You were the one more closely modeled after him.”

The green general looks at the storm on the horizon closing in on the city, “We are all based on armors Master X had, and I am not that special.”

The female reploid hugs him close and kisses his cheek, “But you are the one who is closely programmed the same as Master X and the one that took the less damage fighting Zero. You also lasted the longest against him in all the times you fought him. You will make a great leader.”

Harpuia smiles as he leans back against her chest, feeling a bit more at ease. “Thank you, my sister.”

*authors note* This is just personal belief, but I think that the guardians/generals are brother and sisters because they are based on armors of X. So I refer to them as such in the fanfic, this may not be cannon to Capcom's design.

Thanks Shadowman, I'm working on a couple right now and also an original story that is taking up some of my time as well since I'm not sure if I should keep it a novel or try to produce a comic of it. ^n.n^
