Hurr... Laika is a major pain in the butt to write about >>;; But Neko challenged me and here I go. Hope you like the drabble, Neko.
-----------------------
"I really don't understand why I was asked to come here." Laika commented annoyedly, tying the laces of his bathing suit.
"Because it's important!" Netto replied cheerfuly, how much he loved to spend time at the beach. "Papa wants us to get all well acquinted and learn to work with each other in perfect synchro!"
"I fail to see how a beach trip will help us to learn how to fight better as a team." The Sharo officer retorted.
"Laika, team work also means we must trust each other, and be able to rely on our team mates without doubts." Netto folded his clothes and set them away on his luggage. "Getting to know each other and having fun with each other is a good way to promote the team work. Papa said we're going to do some exercises about trust, too. Well, let's go!"
Laika sighed softly, he didn't feel exactly comfortable with the idea, and he was so unused to beaches. His sight quickly reminded him there were quite a few females in the team.
Searchman was having a hard time trying to supress a burst of laughter at his Operator's wide and bright blush. Lady Pride's bathing suit seemed to have that effect in the rest of the male members of the team.
"Come on Laika!" Netto growled and grabbed the older boy by his wrist, dragging him to the beach. Of course, to the brunette, the difference between boys and girls --or girls on bathing suits, was next to non-existant.
**********************
"You are kidding?" The Sharo Net Savior raised an eyebrow. Dr. Hikari had explained the 'excercises' they had to perform, most of which seemed like simple beach games to him. "How is this... volleyball game an excercise?"
"It's a team game! Now shut up and let's play." Netto frowned and wondered if Laika had ever played a game on his entire life. Sure, he had been trained in several sports, but apparently, team sports seemed quite alien to him.
"Whatever you say..." Laika snorted and took the position asigned to him, quickly understanding the essence of the 'team work' for this game. He had to admit, he had overlooked the point Dr. Hikari wanted to address through the game, even if he still found it odd to use a game rather than a proper combat training.
***********************
After a few hours of playing several games and practicing trust excercises, the last event of the schedule for that day was taking place. It was a rather simple activity, each one would take turns to allow themselves to fall back, someone else would have to hold them to stop their fall. He had his turn first with a perfect performance, even though, he had a hard time supporting Nenji, the fireworks craftsman could use to loose some weight.
Charlie and Nenji had done very well with all the girls, but both got distracted more than once when it came to their male partners. Laika was especially wary of entrusting his life to Charlie if a lady was nearby, as the several times he fell against the sand during Charlie's attempts indicated.
It was now Netto's turn and he had done fairly well, save for a little incident trying to support Nenji. Laika's turn to let Netto catch him came, and he hoped Netto wouldn't let him fall as many times as Charlie had.
"Laika?" Netto asked as the elder boy turned his back on him to prepare for the excercise.
"What is it?" Laika replied without turning back to look at him.
"Do you trust me?"
That question was quite unexpected. Laika wasn't sure why the brunette had asked him that all of sudden. "I guess I do." With that, Laika leaned back, allowing gravity to do its work and pull him back to the ground.
Netto smiled as he caught the aqua haired one, looking sraight into the other's blue eyes. "Thank you, Laika."
"What for?"
"Trusting I wouldn't let you fall." Netto nodded matter-of-fact and helped Laika up.
Laika looked at Netto for a moment and then nodded. Both boys returned with the group as Dr. Hikari congratulated everyone on their first day of training, giving some pointers to a few of them. Laika just sat there, watching Netto for a while. Such a strange boy he was, full of energy, trust, confidence. In his own little world, everything would work out no matter what he had to do to achieve it, he'd always find a way. Laika couldn't remember a time on his life he had feel so secure and relaxed about life as Netto was, and somehow, he envied him a little bit.
********************
As everyone was leaving for a small beach party at the sunset, Netto suddenly stopped and looked back at Laika. The elder Net Savior stopped and tilted his head on confussion.
"Netto?" He asked softly, but was rewarded with silence.
Netto closed his eyes and bent backwards to fall against the sand. The aqua haired boy took a couple of quick steps forward and held his arms out to catch the falling brunette.
"What the hell was that?" Laika asked confussedly.
Netto only smiled up to the elder one, a wide, and content smile. "I was testing you," he replied softly before standing up "Thank you for never letting me fall, Laika." Netto grinned and began to run after the others to join the party. "Hurry up!" He waved cheerfuly to the Sharo officer.
Laika stood there for a moment before allowing a tiny smile to creep into his lips, as he walked up at his own pace to catch up with the rest of the team.
"Don't worry, Netto. I'll never let you fall..."

What, no sunstroke? XD
I like how you made occasional references to the female characters involved-Netto, of course, is clueless. Very nice and normal, nothing too out of the ordinary or angsty...though I'm wondering why Laika's bathing suit has laces. I'm hoping you're referring to the ones in the front of swimming trunks. <_<
*flee* ~/o/
I should try writing a Laika oneshot sometime...and try not to turn it into a 20-page four-chapter fic >_>;;;

Is it?
I found a few errors--mostly spelling, grammar, the sort--some of them are listed here--
Plantman wrote: | Charlie and Nenji had done very well with all girls the girls, but both got distracted more than once when it came to their male partners. |
Huh? Was that supposed to be two separate sentences?
Bah. I found them before, but I cannot find them now. Joy.
Anyway--I enjoyed the use of the trust exercise, especially the one with the falling and catching that involved partners. It was something that I observed in the final parts of my China trip. Although I didn't take part in it, it allowed me to observe how close people got as a result of the program. Thanks for reimmersing me in good memories.
The last line served its purpose--it was nice and cute, and it showed the inherent trust--and perhaps something more--between them. Nice fic, and it seemed to be of a good length this time. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I liked this a lot. I must agree that you showed character interaction superbly..& that Laika is damn hard to write. I've been trying to write some fics, but I can't get characters right at all. Blues & Laika are the absolute worst people at staying in character. _________________ Need more Zero/X, Netto/Rock, Rock/Netto, Forte/Netto, & Blues/Netto. PLEASE!
Ano sa...could someone please make me a Zero/X, Blues/Netto, or Forte/Netto avatar/banner? I would greatly appreciate it...
Thanks for the avatar, Mandi!
People! We need more Blues/Netto & Forte/Netto on the net. Come on; help me out here! *gives everyone her Super-Adorable Irrisistable Sad Kitty Eyes(TM)* |

As for the typos, I corrected the few I spotted after I submit it. /o/;; Laika is a bastard to keep In Character. _________________ Hecha en MÉXICO - Avatar by Me.

Hmmm. Nice work Planty. I found the fact that Laika thought that Nenji could lose some weight was quite amusing. You did excellent with Laika I thought. I'm not a very good writer, but I do know that Laika is really annoying to write about. I often find myself strating to make him more and more like Netto -_-; . _________________
