Like the title says how do you think Fullmetal is being treated here in america (and where ever else the dubed verson is shown)???

I think it's being done extremely well. I think Ed and Als voices are even better than the subbed versons ones. Though i've only seen one episode of the subbed verson. ^^; anyhoo even the DVDs have the same covers as the japenese verson of the DVDs do (Though rewritten into english of course) And everyones voice seems to fit them quite well.

Also I liked how in the FMA game they used all of the voices from the dubbed verson.

I have seen the first couple episodes of the dubbed version and think it was handled nicely. I compared it with the subbed version at the same time, and it stayed mostly true to it. Infact, I think some explanations were handled better in the dubbed version. The game was pretty good as well. Overall, I was rather impressed and they continue it.

I also think they are treating it well. Some of the voices actually fit them. I never saw a poorly dubbed episode of FMA. I've seen the subbed version too. I say that both the dub and the sub are good. :O But I've haven't played the game yet. But I am hoping to. But is it any good? ._.

There have only been 3 real edits so far. (4 if you count the scene they removed from the "Hughes" episode if you get what I'm saying) And strangely enough, they all revolve around Scar blowing up pieces of his victims. (Mostly the head)

As much as I admire their talent for sticking to the original, I still have to say that the English voice actors are outmatched by their Japanese counterparts. Ed seems to have lost emotion in his drive to sound cool and angsty, and Al...well, it's pretty cool that he's actually a little kid, but it still shows in the voicing. <<;; I like Roy though. Hawkeye has a bit too much emotion at some points, but otherwise her voice is all right.

I haven't seen many edits...hell, they didn't even cut out the one with Scar blowing up someone's head in an alley. <<;; But what happened with Hughes?

Well I havent seen any of the Jap versions of Fullmetal Alchemist myself, only the US DVD Released (havent check for the Jap versions on the DVD...might have to) but I think Fullmetal is doing really well, the US Version got me hooked, heh after seeing a few eps, I liked it enough to begin paying $20 each month for a DVD and even buying the game on PS2...im also thinking of buying the manga Viz just released. Overall I think Funimation is doing a good job if they got me hooked, voice dubs are pretty good, and it's doing well on Adult Swim, so congrats to them Smile

I think....the dub sounds odd o.o Though Ive only heard (I dont have cable ._.) part of an episode. One of the Shou Tucker eps, and they pronounce his name funny, but meh ._. And I think eh....the voices sorta didnt have much emotion o.o And Al's voice sounded like it was done by an inexperienced little skool kid o.o; But I guess everythin would sound odd at first after being used to the original voices..........

~SSP

BTW, I have an 8.51 GB folder with all the FMA eps subbed if anyone wants XP Just AIM me~

I only saw the first episode (it was played at the L'Arc~en~Ciel concert at Otakon past, and I really didn't pay much attention XD) but I thought it was dubbed really well.

It's okay for me (the translation, the voice acting), but I still like the original better (especially the original voice actors; they rock! XD.

I kinda think Al's voice sounds kinda like a rich spoiled kid. But don't throw bricks at me yet I haven't really seen that much of it. I rented a japenese verson of the DVD and checked out like... 5 mins of episode 1. The fact that there are no subtitles didn't make me wanna get into it to much

I'm really happy with all the voices and the general dubbing process so far. Even though I'm in Canada, I've still been able to see all 26 of the episodes they've done so far. Funi really seems to be thinking about which voices fits the character the best, which is nice. Between this and other recent Funi projects like Fruits Basket, the company is really doing well in the dubbing department.

Vic Mignogna is amazing as Ed. I think he fits a lot of emotion and angst into it while still being able to handle the comedic parts of the role. And he's gonna be at Anime North! He and Travis Willingham (Mustang). Also a great voice...and HOT in real life. ^^

Aaron Dismuke is an excellent choice as Al. Being only 12 (or maybe 13 now), he still is learning to be an actor, but there are times he handles it like a pro (e.g. when he's yelling at Ed in the alley when Scar's about to kill him).

From what I hear, the only voices people seem to have consistent problems with are those of Winry and Envy. They say Winry (Caitlin Glass) sounds too old, and Envy (Wendy Powell) too feminine. Personally, I don't find it a big deal. Winry's sounds a bit more mature than her Japanese counterpart, but I think it still fits her character. And Envy is supposed to have that androgynous affect to his voice, which is why I think they did a great job.

For me, the only dubbed voice that bugged me so far was Nina's with the affected kid's accent. But hey, she's around for three episodes, so it's all good.

I for one thought they did Izumi's voice pretty well. Even though i've never heard the japenese verson and we only got to hear her say "Where are the Elric brothers!!!" and "Good job honey" I guessed her to have a voice like that when I first saw her. A strong tough womans voice. I just hope that she can do the emoutional parts well. Tough I don't doubt that she'll have any peoblems.

And as for Envy. It's the shapeshifting one right??? If so then I think that feminime suits it. To tell the truth I thought it was a girl at first. And the reason I keep saying it is because even Envy doesn't even know what it oringaly looked like... so for all we know it could be a woman o.0

And I didn't know that Al's voice actor was only about 12-13. Makes sence though seeing as him and Al are roughly around the same age. This kid is very good and I for one think he could enter the big leages of voice acting at a young age. He could be as good as.... what's his name... Richard Cox???? I may be thinking of something else.

And when everyones saying they cut something out of the Hughes episode is this the same one [spoil:08158b511a]where he dies???[/spoil:08158b511a]

Also this may be a bit off topic but it was a complete shock to see [spoil:08158b511a]Hughes die. I mean he was one of the main charters for crying out loud!!![/spoil:08158b511a] I'll miss him so T^T

And FMA is very educationial, by reading the trivia at Anime News Network, I learned somethings.

well i just saw the dubbed version and all i can say is: Its pretty good i mean they didnt cut out all the good scenes like in Rockman and maybe theyll show the [spoil:ee64ed2ac0]One hour season special for episodes 42 and 43[/spoil:ee64ed2ac0] in the US...sigh except that I don't like Ed's dub voice since his original voice made him sound more Chibi-ish. -_-;

Well...no word yet. Teletoon has stated that they have no intention of having FMA as a part of their line-up. Here's what they say:

"Our programming department knows about Fullmetal Alchemist, and has decided that this title does not fulfill our brand requirements or the interest of the majority of our viewers. We understand that the animé genre is a popular one with a segment of the population, however, [Teletoon]’s priority has to remain being true to its brand – this commitment has served us well, and has allowed the network to position itself clearly amongst all other offerings."

And I'm sure I'm not alone in calling them idiots. It DOESN'T fulfill "brand requirements" or "the interest of the majority of our viewers"? And crap like Bromwell High does, apparently. Seems Teletoon has all but given up on anime, which suits me just fine. They really show their ignore with these kind of statements, including calling anime a genre. It's a medium.

But I angrily and bitterly digress. Now naturally this doens't leave out YTV. Rumour has it YTV has heard about it and is interested, but that they're also interested (if not more so) in the Naruto dub coming out. Both fine choices, but who knows if they'll go for one, both, or neither. EIther would fit perfectly into their Bionix timeslot. and both .hack//SIGN and Gundam Seed will be ending soon enough. So who knows?

If you really want to see FMA brought over here, give YTV a shout at info@ytv.com.

Or...if you want to see the dubbed FMA episodes right now without the wait, there are other ways to get them...that shall remain nameless, of course. ;P
