Chapter 1: (WARNING: Very emotional chapter!)
How to survive life with the Hikari family!!!

ROCKMAN

“Netto-kun! Netto-kun!!! UGH. Not again!!! NETTO GET THE HELL UP YOU’RE GONNA BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!!!! NETTO!!!!!!”

~Hello. I am Rockman EXE. I am Netto-kun’s netnavi. What? What’s a netnavi you ask? A netnavi is like a computer program, a very advanced one at that.

Heck, think of it this way if you’re really stupid or moronic:

Very strong, computerized people that look like they’re wearing spandex run around the internet and help humans.

Netto does this crap every morning and I’m always getting yelled at because he doesn’t wake up. But it’s not my fault that he sleeps like a log!!!~

“Woah, what time is it?? OH GOD ROCK WHY DIDN’T YOU WAKE ME UP?!?!” Netto asked angrily.

I sighed and muttered, “I tried already…..you wouldn’t get up……sorry.”

Netto groaned and followed it with, “Great….I’m soooooo late now!!!”

I shrugged and said defensively,

“Well, you can’t blame me for THAT.”

Netto yelled, “Yeah, it is your fault!!!! I know your all puny and everything, but you can scream next time!!!!”

I sighed.

~Netto, you big meanie! Be nicer to your older brother!!!

Since when did you ever care about school? Oh, what’s that? Yeah, of course I’m his brother!

When I was human, my name was Saito.

I died at 5 or 6 years old from a bad disease incurable at the time.

Luckily, Yuiichiro, my father, spared some of my human soul and created this body with it.

You’re wondering why I interrupt so much? Maybe if you all shut up and stop asking questions I can get on with it!!!~

“Netto, just go or else you’re going to be REALLY late!! No, I’m serious this time!!! Stop screwing around and get your shit together!!!”

Netto frowned and muttered something about zippers, mouths, locks, keys, and shutting up.

I guess I can pretty much guess what he said, and that hurts. I mean, hurts my feelings.

I don’t nag him that much, do I?

~Yes, I said FEELINGS. Navis have feelings too, so shut up.~

“Netto-kun…..” I began, but looked up at Netto’s face from the PET as we walked out the door and stopped myself.

~A PET is short for personal terminal. This is usually used to harbor a netnavi’s data. PETs come in different colors.~

His face was straight. “Netto-kun? Are you alright?” I stared at him for a couple seconds.

His usual smile didn’t flicker at the corners of his mouth.

“Netto? Netto-kun! Can you even HEAR me, Netto-kun?”

Netto-kun nodded his head and responded with,

“Yeah, I’m fine.” without even looking down at me.

Netto-kun rarely gets this quiet. Something was definitely wrong!

“Netto? Netto-kun, you’re really pale. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that you’re okay??”

Netto glared down at me and yelled, “I’m fine!!!” before fainting and crashing to the sidewalk with a sickening thud.

“NETTO-KUN!!!!! Oh please God, don’t let him be dead!!!”

~This is the first time this has ever happened!!! Now I’m laying on the ground in my PET next to Netto’s unconscious,

--maybe even dead,--

body.

I need to get a hold of someone!!! Wait, that’s it!!! Fuyuki!!!

~Fuyuki is our 15 year-old brother who’s Starman’s Netop. He used to be half-navi, but now he’s fully human. Even though now he‘s fully human, he still has the strength of a full navi.~

I quickly transferred over to Fuyuki’s computer where I was met by the password screen. I typed in the password and was instantly transported to his computer.

Starman was in the middle of sleeping when I yelled,

“STARMAN!!!! WAKE UP!!!!!” He bolted awake in an instant an out of surprise threw his pillow at my head, causing it to explode and spread cyber feathers everywhere before they disappeared.

“Oh, Rockman, what brings you to Fuyuki’s computer?”

~Since Starman is Fuyuki’s navi, I treat him almost like my brother, but not as like I do Netto-kun or Fuyuki-chan.~

I gasped out the words in between sobs I thought I would never have to use.

“I think…..Netto-kun…..he…he’s-s-s…he’s dead!!! He’s not breathing anymore!!!”

My legs refused to support me anymore and my knees buckled while I started crying uncontrollably.

I could feel rivers of tears flowing down my cheeks.

Starman gasped and dashed off, probably to get Fuyuki, leaving me sitting there alone.

In a couple seconds I could see Fuyuki’s face on the computer screen as he started talking in a whispered voice to Starman.

Starman turned his head around to look at me and yelled over my voice,

“And Rock, stop all that freakin’ crying!!! We can barely hear ourselves!!!”

I turned my face away from them and answered,

“Okay.”

When I was silent, they both turned away from me. Even though I was mute, I could still feel tears running down my cheeks.

~Why am I acting like this? I know Netto’s my younger brother, but I don’t see Fuyuki crying his eyes out like I am.

What’s wrong with me??

No.

All of you humans just shut the hell up. I don’t have time for your gay questions anymore!!! Jeez, there IS something wrong with me!!!!~

Fuyuki looked at me and said,

“Sait-I mean Rock, why didn’t you say so?”

I looked at him and yelled,

“I did!!! WHAT THE HELL IS EVERYONE’S PROBLEM TODAY!?!?!”

I just barely held back a couple more sobs and said quieter,

“I’m never like this. I’m so sorry. I think there’s something wrong with me.”

~That’s the truth! I’m never like this. Something’s going on here and nobody’s telling me!~

Fuyuki plugged a cord into his computer and said,

“C’mon, you and Starman can share a PET for a while until we can get you back to yours.”

I rubbed my arm against my eyes and nodded.

“Alright, let’s go.”

I said, feeling just a little bit better knowing I was with my older brother now as I followed Starman into the PET.

Chapter 2:
It’s almost time, Rockman!!!

ROCKMAN

“Netto!!!” Fuyuki yelled.

Netto weakly opened his eyes and said,

“It’s coming.”

“Huh? What’s coming?”

I asked, totally unaware of what was going on.

Fuyuki answered,

“Oh, nothing. Netto’s probably got a concussion. Ya know, he hit his head pretty bad it looks like.”

I looked away and mumbled,

“They’re all DEFINITELY keeping something from me!”

Netto flipped the off-switch on my PET and I was engulfed in darkness.

“Netto!!!! NETTTOOOOO!!!!!”

I knew he couldn’t hear me, but I’m still pretty-damned pissed-off that he would do that!

NETTO

I had to hit the off button for a reason. It’s supposed to be a surprise, but dad has finally found out how to do it and has made it.

Tonight’s the night Hikari Saito will be rejoining us.

There’s just one catch:

In order for the program to work, it has to be booted up at midnight on a moonless night. Life-force is drained from the youngest child, being me.

We can’t tell him though, I’m afraid for his reaction. That’s why I fainted earlier.

Apparently, we elapsed so much time, I guess school’s over.

I can see Meiru-chan walking home just now.

I’m keeping Sai--

…ROCKMAN’s PET off until the program’s booted up.

(Dammit, gotta stop calling him Saito!)

He’s probably sitting in his PET on the ground with his arms crossed in pitch-blackness.

ROCKMAN

I’m sitting in my PET on the ground with my arms crossed in pitch-blackness. This is SO unfair. I’m telling dad to stop making off-switches on PETs! This is like, navi-abuse!!!

FUYUKI

Netto is still a little worn out from his “episode” earlier today, so he’s laying in his bedroom.

I was ordered by mom to keep Sai--ROCKMAN

(FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!)

in my room. Some malfunctions with the program could occur should they get too close to each other.

I sent one of his friends, Lauren,

(an exchange student from the United States who‘s got a big crush on Netto. She came over to Akihara just a couple months ago,) into his room to talk to him.

I suddenly heard footsteps and turned to see Yuiichiro standing in my doorway. He smiled and said to me,

“Why don’t you let Trill try to console Rockman until we need to send Lauren home.”

(Trill is Lauren’s navi.)

I nodded my head at my father before he left the room. I glanced over at my computer and called out,

“Starman, what do you think Saito’s gonna do when he’s here??”

Starman scratched his head with a finger in confusion and answered,

“I dunno. Looks like we’ll find out soon enough.”

I smiled and said trying to contain my excitement,

“Yeah…I guess we will, won’t we?”

before getting up and grabbing Trill’s PET.

I waved at Trill and said,

“What’s up Trill?”

She winked at me, waved, and replied,

“Nuttin’ too much. And Rock?”

I looked over at the blue PET’s black screen and picked it up.

“Eh, he’s been a little moody lately. But that’s part of Saito.bat acting up. He can’t help it.”

Trill smiled very sweetly at me and cocked her head to the side a little before giggling, and asking,

"What's a Saito.bat?"

I laughed to myself and thought,

"She can be so stupid and sweet it's funny!"

Then I hit the on/off switch and the PET’s screen was brought to life.

Rock saw me and smiled really big.

He laughed, and said cheerfully,

“Hey, Fuyuki-chan!”

LAUREN

“It’s all right Netto-chan, I can totally understand. It has to be hard having to have lost two brothers. Well, you’ve got Fuyuki, and soon, you’re going to be able to meet Saito for REAL this time!”

I exclaimed to Netto.

Netto propped himself up on his elbows in his bed and smiled tiredly.

I had to use all my self control I’ve ever had in my life not to hug him and yell,

“Nya!!!”

Instead, I just said softly,

“Netto-cha-”

He stopped me and said,

“Just call me Netto-kun.”

I whispered,

“Alright. Uh, Netto-kun, I thought you should know tha-”

He interrupted me again and whispered softly in my ear,

“Don’t bother telling me. I figured out the second I met you.”

I lightly rested a hand on his shoulder.

He grabbed my arm lightly and pulled me into an embrace.

I could’ve sworn my face turned beet-red.

ROLL

I came to deliver a message to Netto-chan, but what unrolled in front of my eyes was heartbreaking.

Netto-chan was hugging Lauren-san.

Lauren just stared at him for a couple seconds before she wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

I stood in Netto’s computer, mesmerized by the scene in front of me. I was at a loss for words, but that as okay, for I seemed to have lost my voice at that moment.

I tried to talk, but I made no sound.

I had to tell Meiru-chan right away, for this was one of those things I couldn’t keep from her.


***

ROCKMAN

Trill was kneeling down next to me. I was laying down with my head in her lap.

“I’m really upset with Netto.”

I told her. I could feel a lump in my throat and my vision was slightly blurred by tears.

~Jeez, what the hell’s happening to me?! Hormones???~

(If you don't know then don't ask.)

She gazed down at me with the most emotional eyes I had ever seen. I loved that beautiful shade of aqua-green. It just looked so right for her. I was baffled by how Yuiichiro could make such a graceful-looking navi.

“He’s been so rude to me lately. I just don’t understand it.”

She looked so understanding. I knew from the second I saw her she had a deep infatuation for me, but she didn’t act so lovey and scary like the other female navis who feel affectionate for me. I could still feel that damn lump in my throat. Now way in hell would I ever let Trill see me cry.

~No. I don’t like Trill. My heart is Roll’s.

WAIT!!!

NO IT’S NOT!!!! EH!!!!! Then it DOES feel for Trill!

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!

LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!!!!~

That's it feeps! I'm not going to post the third chapter until Tuesday, feep, because I'm spending Friday through Tuesday at my friend's house and I doubt her parents are too keen on me using their computer, so bye fer now guys, feep!

Chapter 3: Hikari Netto, Meet Hikari Saito!!!!

ROCKMAN

~I’m picking up at where I left off in the last chapter, not to confuse you dumbshit humans.~

It’s 11:56 PM, and I don’t know why, but I can hear Netto-kun in his room talking really excitedly to Lauren-chan.

I’m still with Trill.

I began to talk to her again.

“Trill, Netto-kun’s my brother. I’m afraid. He’s just being so reclusive lately.”

I felt more fricken tears stinging the corners of my eyes. I sat up and looked down so Trill couldn’t see me that good.

Once again tears poured down my face.

~Yup. Definitely hormones and puberty, I’m sure of it dammit! Wait, if I'm a navi, then...oh, screw it, this isn't an anotamy lesson!~

Trill grabbed my chin and forced it upward to the point where she could see my face, and as she did, even more tears spilled out of my eyes.

She gasped and whispered,

“Sorry, Rock. I didn‘t know you-…….” and released her grasp.

NETTO

It is now 11:58 PM. Yuiichiro’s going to come in at any minute now with some queer news.

If you just started reading here, some rather stupid stuff if going down. My father has just completed a machine allowing Hikari Saito to be revived.

I felt this really really scary aura surrounding Lauren, like... I don’t know why or how, but when she tapped my shoulder, the aura vanished. I grabbed Lauren’s arms and set them down, then pulled myself away from her. Why did I just hug Lauren? I barely even know her!

Yuiichiro startled me when he came in and commanded, “Netto, go get Saito-I mean Rockman. It’s finally time.”

I felt like my heart was about to explode, because I swear I could feel it thumping rapidly against my ribcage.

I quickly walked into Fuyuki’s room to see him lying face down on his bed.

He was laughing loudly.

I went up very close and smacked him on the head before asking,

“What the hell’s so funny?”

Fuyuki raised his head to look at me and snickered,

“…..It’s our brother! He’s a fricken two timing bitch!!!!” I groaned and asked sarcastically, "He's a female dog?" I sighed because only God knew what Trill could be doing to our poor brother.

I looked quietly into the PET’s screen and nearly fainted. Trill was hugging Rock and muttering something in English.

~Keep in mind everyone speaks Japanese in Akihara, for those of you new to our series.~ I grabbed the PET and snickered. “I hate to interrupt you fluff-scene, but…..”

Rock looked at me and his face instantly turned cherry-red.

I grabbed Trill’s PET and she was in it before you could say “piece of crap”.

She shyly waved good bye to Rockman. I gave Trill back to Lauren and picked up Rockman before saying openly to everyone,

“Hey, everybody, come to SciLab quickly, I’ve got a surprise you’ll never forget!”

I looked down at Rock in his PET. His eyes were slightly red from...crying?

He must have been, but anyway managed a halfhearted smile.

Rock is really starting to worry me. Doesn’t he like being my navi? Have I really ever been THAT mean to him?

ROCKMAN

Father’s taking everyone to SciLab. But it’s 11:59 AM?

Am I malfunctioning? Is the PET malfunctioning? No, I can’t be. Trill’s and Roll’s clocks say the same thing!

Yuiichiro’s walking over to Netto-kun and I.

He stopped in front of us and said,

“Netto, let me see Sai-...Rockman.”

Netto nodded and gave the PET containing me to Yuiichiro.

I don’t like this!!!

But Meiru, Enzan, and Lauren are here with their navis. They wouldn’t let anything happen to me? Right??

“Ow!”

I remarked as I was put in a special holder/computer for PETs. You know what I mean. But, this one was much bigger than other ones. But why would I get chest pains from it?? I groaned,

“Dad, my chest….it…..”

“Hurts?”

he finished. I nodded. He was silent for a moment and stated,

“Rockman, in a few seconds it will be very hard for you to breathe. Don’t be scared, it’s normal.”

Shit.

I see what he meant. I feel like a fish out of water!

ACK!

Jeez, what the hell is he even DOING??!!?!

I soon got my answer when Yuiichiro pointed his index finger in a downward motion. I looked down.

“What in the seven hells…..??”

My arm was human!!!

“What the crap’s going on here??”

A sudden wave of nausea swept over me. I could no longer stay awake and was swept into the darkness of sleep.

(You gettin all this, fangirls?)

ROCKMAN

1 HALF-HOUR LATER:

“Saito!”

Huh, what? Who the hell’s calling me? And why are they saying Saito?

“Saito! Wake up!!!! It’s me, Netto!”

Netto-kun? Why the hell is he calling me Saito?

“Netto-kun? Why are you calling me Saito?”

I questioned fearfully. Netto tapped on something that sounded a lot like glass and answered,

“Saito, open your eyes!”

I opened my eyes to something very unexpected.

Around me was the real world!

Lauren, Enzan, and Meiru had their eyes covered for some reason.

I just noticed I was laying inside of a diagonal/vertical glass pod.

I could see that next to me was the PET I was in not too long ago.

I could also see Yuiichiro beaming as he pressed a couple buttons on a nearby computer.

I had to know what the hell was going on.

“Netto-kun, what time is it?”

I asked. He checked the PET and replied,

“Well, it’s 24:30:12. Why?”

When did I pass out?” I added. He answered,

“A half an hour ago. Dad, open the pod dammit!”

Yuiichiro looked up at Netto-kun and nodded, a little upset with his son's language.

Then he turned his head to me, grinned, and waved.

I waved back, noticing something very disturbing.

My arms were human!

As I stepped out of the pod, Netto threw clothes at me.

I caught them in midair and was about to ask,

“Uh, what’s with the clothes?” when I happened to look down and scar myself for life.

Netto blushed, covered his eyes, and said,

“Dude….you’re naked. Get some fricken clothes on! You're scaring the girls and Enzan!” I felt myself blush horribly as I slipped on a long-sleeved shirt, then shorts, socks, and all that other shit.

I still didn’t know what was happening. When everyone uncovered they’re eyes,

(Lauren said I was almost as hot as my brother, Netto. Fuyuki yelled, “Oh, and I’m not?” She blushed. Girls scare me.)

Netto and Fuyuki hugged me. Netto said,

“Welcome back, Hikari Saito.”

A beaming Fuyuki handed me a mirror.

I looked in the mirror and saw a beautiful-looking 11 year-old boy staring back at me. His eyes were now a vivid brown. He had two long pieces of hair in the front while in the back,

(or tendrils, bangs, whatever turns you fangirls on,)

his hair was sticking out in perfect spikes, all facing back. It was the most beautiful shade of brown, like Netto and Fuyuki’s.

Is this me?

No!

I had black hair as a navi.

It couldn’t be me. Anyways, my eyes were the colors of polished emeralds. I slowly reached a hand out to the mirror and touched it lightly, the reflection doing the same. I was human!

I’m going to miss everything as a navi, but I wanted to retry living as a human, I guess.

I grinned, showing everyone perfectly aligned teeth, each one pointed slightly like fangs.

I asked everyone,

“So, my name’s Hikari Saito now, huh?”

I inspected myself thoroughly. Dammit, I’m pretty!

So there ya have it, chapter 3!!! I have to say this probably isn't my best work ever, but back when I wrote it, I was trying my hardest. You know what they say: Some people just weren't cut out to be writers!

Saito: You made me NAKED in this chapter?! God girl, what's your frickin problem?!

ChibiForte: Aw, shaddup pretty-boy.

Saito: Yes, I know I'm pretty.

Netto: *smacks Saito with baseball bat and drags him off somewhere*
