One shot to take my mind off my own midterms.

Neko does not deal well with stress, no she does not O_O;

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Netto ran his fingers through his hair and gave a sigh of complete and utter exhaustion. “Rockmaaaaannn…” he whined.
Rockman suppressed his own sigh, “Yes Netto-kun?”
“How much longer do I have to study?” he asked.
Rockman let a tiny smile quirk his lips before shaking his head. “I’d say about twenty more minutes. You really should be reviewing your notes from the beginning of the year.”
Netto laid his head in his arms and groaned. “I can’t think anymore, Rockman.”
“I told you to start studying a week ago,” Rockman frowned. “I said that cramming for these kinds of tests would be a bad idea.”
Netto glared at his navi, “Be more sympathetic,” he growled.
“You brought it on yourself,” Rockman pointed out. “I told you what you should have done but you brushed it off. Now it’s the night before your midterms and you’ve barely looked over anything.”
“Who in the hell thought it was a good idea to invent tests that make you re-learn everything you took notes on two and a half months ago?” Netto muttered to his desk.
“Someone who realized that if they didn’t, the students would forget all the previous information they had learned two weeks into summer vacation,” Rockman replied in all fairness. “But that really doesn’t matter. You needed to study earlier and now it’s too late. So if you muse cram, then cram but don’t complain about it to me.”
Netto made a face, “You’re not being very nice.”
“You’ve been complaining for hours,” Rockman said dryly.
Netto sat up and propped his chin in a hand. He looked sourly at his text book and propped it open against the computer. “I don’t remember learning any of this.”
“You slept through history a lot,” Rockman reminded him.
Netto rolled his eyes, “Maybe if I had a better teacher,” he muttered.
Rockman shrugged, “I can’t really argue with you there. Your history teacher is pretty boring.”
Netto gave a short laugh, “Isn’t that the truth?” He sighed again and let his eyes wander to the plethora of books at his side. “So much stuff,” he groaned.
“They are midterms, that’s what the tests are for,” Rockman reminded him.
Netto shut his history book with a snap and pulled out his algebra book. “Well, at least I get to take different classes next semester,” he said fairly.
Rockman nodded, “Right. So just get through this and you can look forward to sleeping through new classes.”
Netto shot his navi an icy glare, “Not helping.”
“Sorry,” Rockman said with a giggle. “I know you’re trying hard.”
“I just don’t want to take chemistry again,” Netto said imploringly. “That class was evil.”
“You take biology next,” Rockman told him. “Prefer the study of life?”
“I prefer science without the math,” Netto told his navi.
“Programming has math in it,” Rockman pointed out.
Netto rolled his eyes, “Not that kind of math.”
“Then what kind of math?” Rockman asked.
Netto blinked, “I don’t know. The math that…” his brow furrowed as he searched for what he was trying to say. “Not that kind of math,” he snapped.
“Right, right,” Rockman said peacefully in an effort to calm down his irate partner. “Not that kind of math.”
Netto flipped through his algebra book’s pages half heartedly and shut the book. “I can’t think anymore,” he groaned as he let his head fall onto the desk with a thump.
“You’ve said that already,” Rockman told him.
“I can’t even remember what I said ten seconds ago, let alone a whole two minutes,” Netto replied in good humor.
Rockman shook his head, “All right, all right, you can stop studying for now.”
Netto stretched his arms over his head and sighed happily. “Thank god.”
“Promise me you won’t put it off next time?” Rockman asked him.
Netto nodded, “I promise. I’ll study in advance next time.”
Rockman nodded, “Good. It’s easier to deal with you when you’re not stressing over tests.”
Netto laughed, “I’m not that bad.”
“Yes you are,” Rockman shot back. “You’re bad enough that Manabe sent you home early after that one mission.”
Netto blinked as the memory came to the surface of his brain. “Oh yeah,” he said softly. “I forgot.”
“See?” Rockman told him. “You are bad.”
“All right, I’m bad. I just don’t deal with stress well,” Netto shrugged. “I can’t help it.”
“Then don’t force yourself into situations where you’re going to stress,” Rockman told him.
Netto blinked and realized where the conversation had ended up. “All right, all right, I get it. I already promised I would study next time.”
Rockman nodded, “I know but I needed to prove to you that you had to. Otherwise we’re going to repeat this in nine week’s time.”
Netto shrugged, “Can’t win, can I?”
“Nope,” Rockman answered.
Netto stood up from his desk and stretched his arms over his head. “Ah well, at least I cram well.”
“But you complain every step of the way,” Rockman pointed out. “And it’s annoying.”
Netto stuck his tongue out at his navi, “Oh well. I’ll be better next time.”
Rockman nodded, “You better.”
With a happy sigh Netto collapsed onto his bed and stretched out on the mattress, “But now we have to deal with tomorrow. What are the chances that there will be an attack on the net tomorrow during my history final?”
Rockman grinned as he turned off the lights. “Not very.”
“Damn,” Netto said good naturedly as he pulled his covers over his body. “Ah well, might as well get what little rest I possibly can. Night Rockman.”
Rockman nodded, “Good night, Netto-kun. I’ve set your alarm clock for 7. You’re not going to be late if I can help it.”
“Yipee,” Netto said sarcastically as he curled into the sheets. “I look forward to your challenge.”
Rockman snickered and went into sleep mode while Netto slowly drifted off to sleep the day before his first midterms.
Excellent job Neko. As usual you pull off the characters perfectly and you give thme small characteristics of yourself (like not good with stress). Kudos to you Queen of Fluff, a wonderful read. Good luck with your mid terms. Razz They're a pain.
A well-written story, Neko. I love how you can integrate the EXE universe into various aspects of real life so seamlessly. Lots of drama later on, but it's something Netto needed to hear anyway. O_O This reminds me of those little "talks" my parents and I used to have when I was younger and more Nettoesque. Stress and midterms can be hard, especially when combined. Good luck on your tests, and first-class work once again.
I love it when you write these one-shot fluffs, Neko. You put the characters in real-life situations common to many people, thus many readers can relate to the characters. In addition, it also shows the more human side of the characters which you don't normally see on screen. Plus, you also point out some valuable life's lessons.
I liked this very much, Neko. My midterms aren't until the week of February 27th, but I'm already taking Rockman's advice and studying right at the start of the term.
Thank you Vanilla, this is what I was trying to put into words, but was unable to place the correct way to say it. She is excellent at fusing everyday things (like bubbles for example ^o^, my favorite piece by you Neko) and EXE. It's simply amazing.
NAZE!?!? T_T
It's not fair. I have 142 mins for every subject. Damn...that means I have to spend 2 hours with my least favorite band teacher for first period!!! >.<
Heh--you never cease to amaze me with the kinds of outlets that you have...
Anyway. This is quite a cute little fic. As has been cited before, it's quite satisfying to see how you integrate your situations (the ones that you have or will have experienced in the near future) into the world of your writing. Every fic I read feels like I'm getting to know you that much better, since inevitably, a writer leaves elements of him or herself in a work.
And don't worry so much, Neko. I'm sure you'll do fine. And if you need any help, well, you always know where to find me. Smile
A nice piece of fluff. It was funny and captured the characters perfectly. Good luck with your midterms (to everyone).
