Ok I was thinking about getting DDR for my PS2 but I was wondering.

1st of all do the Playstation and Playstation 2 versions have Japanese songs in them??? Pretty much the main reason I love DDR is because of the kinds of songs it has.

2nd what's the best dance pad to get and how much does it cost??? I was thinking of getting the one from madcatz for only $20 but I hear that madcatz royally sucks.

Also if possable could you please show a picture of the dance pad???

3rd Which DDR game do you think is the best??? Counting music and features.

My cousin told me that those metal pads are bad..I know which pad im going to get, i'll go look for a picture for you Valtz.

MadCatz really do stink..I have a N64 controller made by them and it broke within a few weeks..it stopped working, actually.

First of all, if you're getting a PS2 for DDR, I'd recommend either getting a Japanese-region one or a modchip so you can play the Japanese mixes. The US versions are really buggy, thanks to Konami of America's half-baked job of trying to splice about 3 Japanese mixes into one US mix. And the Japanese mixes hardly require any knowledge of Japanese, unless you want to understand all the song lyrics. Lotsa Japanese songs on 5th and later, by the way.

And as for the MadCatz pad, from what I've heard, it sucks.

Good thing about getting DDR on PS2 is you actually have six mixes to pick from in the US. DDR, DDR Disney Mix, and DDR Konamix were on the original PSX, but still compatable to some extent with the PS2.

I've used those $20 pads, and they're okay.. As long as you don't abuse them for hours on end like my cousin did. I'm still using the ones I had when I first got DDR before Konamix was released. But when I needed an Xbox pad, I splurged though, and spent the extra money on an Ignition pad. It works great, and can be taken apart easy for storage(mine sits under a couch)... but at around $100, it hurts the wallet.

I dedicate my life to DDR, I'll help the best I can.

1. Yep. All of them do. You'll never see a real DDR game without one.

2. Okay. Listen. Don't get anything with a value less of 50 bucks. Try to stock up and save AS MUCH MONEY AS YOU CAN. www.redoctane.com has the best dance pads. Period. Madcatz does suck, and you should not even consider getting those cheap-ass soft pads. Trust me on this. You will apperciate how long lasting and responsive hard pads are. Soft pads rip up easily, move around too much, don't have very good sensors and much much more.

3. DDR 3rd Mix for Arcade. DDR MAX 2 for PS2. This is purely based off song preference. I don't care much for the Maxx series, btw, so it's not based on who has the best Maxx song.

1. They all do, aside from DDDR USA, but to my knowledge, that was never a home version (might be wrong)

2. Do not, whatever you do, get a softpad. I do not care what anyone says, they suck. I got an Intec one for X-mas and beat it up within a duration of less than 2 weeks, and that was the first pad I owned. I took great care of it, but it ripped up very easily. Bottom line: dont get a softpad. As for metal pads, they rock. They dont break easily, you can wear shoes on them, and not have to worry about damaging the sensors. Megaman 7, if your cousin says metal pads are bad, ask him which pads have better accuracy, better durability, and better stability. If he thinks the softpads are better, he probably has no clue about anything DDR. If you dont need a metal pad, I reccomend starting off with a RedOctane Ignition hardpad. It's basicially a very stable softpad with very dense foam on the inside. They run for about $80, and I've had one since February of this year, and it only has one rip in it, and the rip aint that big. So if you plan on actually playing the game, get a good pad, and if you only want DDR so you can use it's workout mode, there's something wrong with you. Metal and hard pads work wonders.

3. Best mix? Home would have to be either MaX or Extreme. Arcade I'd say 4th PLUS or Extreme. I'd reccomend getting Extrem as your first mix as it has beginner mode and some very popular songs. I have Max, but I like it alot. A good friend of mine has Extreme, and likes it alot, but I'd reccomend that over Max any day of the week.

Blues: DDR USA included smile.dk songs, and that's pretty much the essence of Japanese music. >_>

No, my cousin has been playing DDR for a long time now and he's very, very skilled at it. I watched him as his feet flew everywhere on the pad. He plays it alot, and i tried for myself on the pad, it was a very good pad.
He says his friends play too rough on the pad. They stomp on it. Thats how the pad gets ripped up, or ruined.

Geoff: I had always thought that Smile.DK was europop. The beat style and words don't seem that much like anything Japanese.

Megaman 7: No offense or anything, just how good is your cousin? The best I've seen anyone do on a softpad is get an A on a standard song without damaging the pad or the pad slipping. What I'm trying to say is that softpads are not as reliable as, say, a Cobalt Flux. Softpads are lighter, thus they tend to slip all over the place. The Konami Official Softpad is the only semi-decent softpad. Metal Pads tend to take more of a beating then softpads, but the metal pads can take that beating, as they are made of metal, weigh more, therefore don't slip as much, if at all. Metal pads, also, don't rip. They are made of hard plastic and metal pads and the better metal pads dont crack. When my softpad ripped during an attempt to do INSERTiON heavy, I wore out the sensors, as I'm sure the softpads were not made with that in mind. All I'm trying to say is that metal pads are usually made for the person who wants to play the harder songs, which usually cause any pad to take a beating, whithout ruining the pad. Honestly, who can pass Max300 Heavy on a softpad, and if one can, the pad would most likely have a few rips here and there, even if the pad is brand new, and it would also fly all over the place. The thing I like about metal pads is the fact that I can wear shoes on a one. While one could argue that the Konami-manufactured softpad offers an experince closest to the arcade pad, because they are both made by Konami, that isn't true. Konami made a small number of Metal pads, which is by far the closest one could ever get to the actuall arcade experince, ever. Also, RedOctane recently made a pad that rivals the actuall arcade pad because both pads have lowered arrow buttons.

Hey, everyone can have their own opinions.

DAMN IT! *remembers Boys: Euro mix* I hate being wrong.

Still, Naoki's Paula Terry pulls in techno raves to turn into good Japanese style songs, but it all considers what you call J-Pop.

I considered it by having Japanese people singing Japanese style music.
People probably consider it by having Japanese people singing IN Japanese.

However you take it, there's always going to be Japanese influence on 90% of the songs. Especially since NAOKI makes 90% of the songs. >_>

---

Megaman 7: Nope. I've seen feet fly on the soft pad, and watch it slowly get torn up. It pretty much makes common sense that the hard pad will last longer than the soft pad, not saying that you said that, though, but if you feel what the soft pad feels like, it's kinda amazing on how they can get through such abuse before getting torn up.

Sorry for updating an old OLD topic but it's better than making a new one ^^;; I've recently gotten DDR Extreme 2 and I must admit it's pretty good. Though I did find a good lack of japenese music...

I mean it doesn't hold a candle stick compared to DDR Extreme (arcade verson) Now I know there two completly diffrent things but still... If other DDR games have the same lack I might as well import.

And two questions I watned to ask
Which would you say is better??? Extreme or Extreme 2???

and how many songs are there usally on the american and eroupen versons of DDR???

Oh and also DDR has made me love BEforU!!! ^^

Oh, I got DDR Extreme 2 too that comes with the pad for Christmas. ^^
I'm on light mode, and my pad is fine. Once in a while it moves, but all I have to do is move it back.
And I recently talked to my cousin who plays on heavy mode and asked if his pad he was using a year ago was still in good shape, and he said it is. I asked him that because I heard from a FAQ that I should consider buying a axpensive pad. I'm not going, though, I'm perfectly fine with the soft pad.

The Butterfly (Upswing mix) song is my favorite. :D

Trying to remember....

I think most American Mixes has roughly 60-65 songs on them.

I personally think that Extreme 2 > Extreme because there's just so much more challenging stuff after you get past all the dance master mode crap (Which is basically all the way up to Area D)

And if you think Ex 2 doesn't compare to Ex Arcade..well..O_o...yeah..because the arcade pretty much has all the songs in it...(lol not macks period tho! lol!!)

And Butterfly (Upswing Mix) is a *great* song. XP

Ex 2 FTW! \o/

If you're playing DDR just to listen to the japanese songs, you're better off just downloading them.

Every single Mix has its fair share of J-Pop on it, but I agree with Zan. It's not that hard to find. =/ However, if you're looking for BeForU...I can suggest:

MAX2 (BREVK DOWN)
EXTREME 1 (FireFly)
Ultramix 3: (BREVK DOWN, FireFly, and Himawari)

..Yeah..every single mix has its share, like I said. The ones with the most are probably Extreme 1, 2, Ultramix 3, and...That's it. O_o I think UM2 had a bit, but...
