Hi, I Had a question. One of my friends was obssessed with a guy from inuyasha or somthing and i told them it was unhealthy to love somthing she could never have. This was before megaman came into my life. now i'm obssessed with Maylu. I wasn't really sure where to put this so i stuck it here asking, Is it unhealthy to fall in love with an anime character? _________________ I still need a picture |

Well... so long as you don't go too far with it(and don't make me explain how far too far is). Fanboy/fangirl-ism is okay. |

Exactly.
It's perfectly reasonable to have an obsession with a fictional character. As long as one can keep it in check and ensure that he maintains control at all times, then it is acceptable. When that person loses control and the obsession begins to govern even everyday duties and obligations, then there is a problem and it should be rectified quickly, before it can cause irrevocable damage. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Well, I DO have a thing for MegaMan, ProtoMan, Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sesshomaru. OK? Wonder why I mentioned those characters? Because I'm proud of being a fangirl!!!!!!!! _________________

I think it's healthy as long as you don't take it too far. I mean it's all about the fandom and if it's an ideal you have then fine.
Besides, as some people have said it shows you have a certain amount of imagination to think of a fictional charachters as a "person" persay or at least byond what you see of TV. _________________ Roses are #FF0000, violets are #0000FF. All my base are belong to you.

I have to agree with Neko has to say. I think your friend is perfectly normal.
I have an obsessive "Fan-boy" attitude towards Lan and MegaMan (plus a character from .Hack and a character from Transformers Energon). :] _________________

The only thing I can say is taht don't get too carried away, then get dissapointed when they get married in the series. XD
Don't overdo it. Some people do... umm.. We really don't need to go into depth with what they say.... Just don't forget that you also have a real life outside of your anime obession.... I sometimes forget that XD *drools at all the bishies in the world* _________________
Hey It's perfectly normal most of the time. People do that to celebrities all the time.
Yah, but there's always a chance, even if its really slim, that somehow you could meet a celebrity. Do you know what the chances of ever meeting maylu are? 0%... T_T |

I guess not... I mean, characters in movies and TV shows are technically fiction. Even though they're played by humans, the character they play usually doesn't portray the actor's personality. If people fall in love with those characters, I don't see why other can't fall in love with anime characters... _________________

Well, in the minds of 'preps', 'jocks' and basically the 'fan-boy/girls' natural enemy, it IS a problem.
However, so many of us fan-boy/girls have accepted one another for 'going too far' with obsession, that it is deemed as totally acceptable.
Unfortuantly, even with that, there is stepping the line, like making out with your TV set everytime Inuyasha is online is where I'd consider stepping the line. It all depends on the person though, but the one thing I'd watch out for is spending exorbinants amount of money on Japanese stuff, which should be self-explanatory. _________________ I suck! |

Well, I for one, don't have an obsession with any fictional character. So-
*get smacked on head by random Met*
Er, I stand corrected.
Anyways, there's nothing wrong with liking or identifying yourself with a certain fictional character. But if your obsession reaches the point to where you absolutely have to be there to see that character or you break down, or if you're spending an exhorbitant portion of your budget on stuff about said character, then we have a problem. _________________

Fan-ism can be rather obsessive at times, just make sure it doesn't cross the line too much. I mean, I'm a big fan of FMA and Edward Elric, But I don't try to be just like the guy.*appears wearing an identical outfit to Ed, with selfmade Automail right arm and left leg(looks pretty damn good too), Blonde hair and golden eyes*That was for Cosplay! >_> |
