I watched the Anime first and I read the manga last. That is so sad.. but anyway!

It is a story about a girl who helps a cat prince and is forced to marry the prince. The girl goes and runs for help to a place, this place has different names in the manga and in the anime. She gets help from these new characters and they end up on a very very short adventure.. ^^;;

When I saw it, I thought it was the cutest thing ever. When I read the manga, I saw a whole lot of differences. I was upset that the anime turned out so different. (I'm a fan of anime that directly follows the manga without too many changes) Have any of you seen it or read it? Comments?

That would be Miyazaki.

I've seen the movie (in Japanese with English subtitles; thank you reigon-free DVD players) and I LOVE it. Although I don't think "Shimatta!" translates to "My shoe!" XD

Megawoman got it while I was away and we watched it a couple of weeks ago. I definitely is cute, that's true.

I can't agree with anime21 about wanting an anime to directly follow the manga it relates to. I've been reading the Mahoromatic manga, and while it's cute, I'm sort of disappointed that it's more-or-less a clone of the anime (or at least the first half is. The second half's playing out differently, but mostly in how things happen, not what happens). Then there's Escaflowne. that series is on entirely the opposite end of the spectrum. ith Escaflowne, they made it worth it to watch the anime series, and the movie, and read the manga series as well, because they are all VERY different from each other.

Hmm, I'm tempted to make a topic about Miyazaki-sama's great works. We've got quite a few of them at home.

Miyazaki isn't the one who made the anime. It was studio ghibli.

Miyazaki owns and runs Studio Ghibli.

I still hail Princess Mononoke as his greatest work to date, though Porco Rosso's alot of fun to watch too.

Actually, Miyazaki didn't actually do The Cat Returns. <_<;

If you watched one of the features on the DVD, it said that he let one of the younger writer/producer/worker of Ghibli to do the story of it. Miyazaki stepped back and watched how the film went.

I hope there are more movies by this new guy, The Cat Returns is one of my favorite movies now. <_<

I saw this movie a few months ago, and yes, it's as good as everyone says it is. I've always been a big fan of Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki's work; those stories have a certain flair about them. They aren't overly far-fetched like sci-fi or fantasy animes, yet they have just enough surrealism to make for an interesting story. I have yet to read the manga version, but if it's anything like the movie, I'll be expecting a lot.

I've been a fan of Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind since it was first released in the US as the shortened Warriors of the Wind. Now I'm very happy to have seen the full length version (Patrick Stewart's a cool Yupa). But Miyazaki-sama's greatest work was the original manga of Nausicaa. It was truly spectacular.
