I've always wondered how Miyuki came across Skullman, so I decided to write out a story about it (I'm not sure if they mention how they met in the show, so this is from my POV). Rated PG for some dark content concerning death, and for a curse. 'Hope you enjoy it! ^_^
“Miyuki-san…? Daijobu?”
The young girl looked up, her long sea foam hair hiding her face. “What is it?” She answered quietly. Another young girl, with short green hair and rosy cheeks, was facing her, holding a strange device in her hands. “The reading of the will is over.” She said. “Your Grandmother’s attorney wanted me to give this to you.” Sitting up on the swing she was seated on, Miyuki held out her hand as the green-haired girl handed her the device. “Her PET?” She asked. Her friend nodded. “Yes. She left you the deed to her antique shop, ¥20,000 of her savings, and her navi, who she named Skullman.” The screen flashed as the young heiress tapped the power button, a skeleton-like navi appearing on its desktop.
He grinned widely, waving up at her. “Yoroshiku, Miyuki-chan!” He said cordially. His new owner was quiet, staring blankly at him. Skullman looked at her skeptically. “Aren’t you going to say ‘hi’?” He asked. Miyuki looked up at the green-haired girl, ignoring what he had said. “Saloma-san? May I have a moment with Skullman… alone?” She asked quietly. Saloma nodded, smilling a little. “Of course. I’ll be setting up the tables at the reception.” With that, the florist disappeared, leaving the two of them behind.
Miyuki swayed back-and-forth for a long time, staring at her feet as her mind was swarming with thoughts. As the PET rested on her lap, Skullman spoke up. “You getting hungry, Miyuki-chan?” He asked, trying to smile. “There’s sashimi at the reception back there… do you like sashimi?” Miyuki looked at her new navi. After a long pause, she finally spoke: “Is there nothing left?” The skeleton blinked. “What do you mean by that?” He asked. The heiress stopped the swing. “Is there… no one left to care for me?” She asked quietly. A small droplet fell on top of the screen; when Skullman looked up, he saw Miyuki was crying. “Mama is gone…. Father was taken away from me…. and now… Grandma…” She clutched the chains of the swing tightly, biting her lip. “Am I…. Am I going to be alone…. forever?” She whispered.
Skullman watched his heiress sob, a pit of guilt forming in his stomach. From what he had heard from his previous netop, Miyuki had a difficult life, being born with a sixth sense in a world that excluded people like herself. Her Grandmother was also a psychic. Most of her life had been spent caring for her granddaughter, guiding the young outcast to become as spiritually powerful as herself. After seeing Miyuki’s tears, it was obvious that they had a strong relationship with each other. Skullman looked up at her again. “You’re not alone, Miyuki-chan.” Miyuki stopped crying, looking down at her pet. “I-I’m not?” She said.
Her navi spoke again. “Your grandmother was a good woman. She was a hard worker and always cared about people, no matter what they said about her. More than anything else in the world, she cared about you the most. Before she passed away, she told me to watch over you and to make sure you can move on without her… but I’m not watching over you because I was programmed to; I’m doing it because I want to! You’re the only part of her that’s left, and I’m not letting anything happen to you no matter what!!” Skullman clenched his fists, saying quietly to himself. “I… I want us to move on together.” Miyuki stared wide-eyed at him, tears beginning to roll down her cheeks once more. “Skullman…” She murmured.
“Excuse me, miss?” Looking up, Miyuki saw a rather peculiar man, wearing thick gloves and a long apron with a fish printed on it. Standing next to him was Saloma, holding her own PET. “Miyuki-san, this is Masa-san… he wanted to talk to you.” Saloma said politely, while Masa bowed toward her. “Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.” He said. Miyuki stood up, hugging her PET close to her chest. “Is something wrong…?” She asked. Masa held up what seemed to be a badge, the gold lettering spelling out: “Net Agent”. “I am an official Agent of the Net.” He explained. “I am currently searching for members to join my team… are you interested?” Skullman spoke up. “Net Agents?” He asked. “You mean like the ones that arrested that hacker on the news recently?” “Exactly right!”
Skullman turned, facing a large navi that had the appearance of a shark, aside from having two feet and standing upright. “I’m not usually one to brag…. but I just happened to fish that sly bastard out of the water myself.” He replied. “I’m Sharkman, by the way.” The skeleton navi turned back toward his netop. “Well, Miyuki-chan… what do you say?” He asked. Miyuki glanced back at the swing she was on, thinking back at what Skullman had told her. Then, she bowed toward Masa. “Please accept my services.” She said politely. The fish vendor smiled. “Welcome aboard, young lady!” With that, he shoved a large plate of sashimi into her hands, almost knocking her over. “Now, eat up!!” He barked. “You need all the calcium you can get if you want to be a Net Agent!”
Miyuki watched him walk away laughing, Saloma following suit. “I guess this means we’re moving on… right, Miyuki-chan?” She looked down at her PET. “Yes… I believe this is just the beginning.” Then, she smiled at him, the evening breeze blowing through her hair.
“Let’s move on together… and become great Net Agents!”

This fanfic really doesn't have anything bad in it: the story was good, moving, a really minor off character when Miyuki cries, but even that can be put aside with a "that's part of movin on". Really, an excelent piece. _________________

The part about Masa asking them to be Net Agents was completely random, IMHO... Everything else was well done, though. :] _________________

Dang, almost missed this. More Skullman character development, yay! The world needs so much more Skullman fanfic.
Seriously though, I liked the way this was carried out. Seeing Miyuki act emotional shows just how much she could change. I wasn't much a fan of the Net Agent part either though, but then again the Net Agents were one of those things I really didn't like about the anime, they just took three side characters from the game and stuck them in such silly inappropriate roles. But hey, even if you're using the anime version Miyuki and Skullman, it's still the same personalities. So good show. |
