Well, the only power-ups available to your sword (and to the other weapons as well) are the addition of moves and move upgrade. For example, Dante's sword (Rebellion) can have Stinger. You can upgrade the Stinger so it will reach further than normal.
Also, the weapon moves depend on the Style you use. I guess you know which Style adds more kick-a** moves to your weapons, right?
I'm not sure if what I said is correct. It's been a long while since I've touched DMC3...

well N2-0 Night pretty much covered it all because technically....you don't need to "power up" the weapons just give them new moves
