Difference. One-Sided?SwallowxCosmo Angst

Swallowman jumped backwards, trying to catch his breath. So far, the battle had been extremely tough on him. He already had numerous bruises all over his body, and he was quickly growing tired. The bird-like navi knew he had to end the battle quickly at this point; if it was prolonged any further, he would surely be deleted. However, he also knew that he wasn't fighting in top form. That's because his opponent was the one he wished to never face.

Cosmoman.

Immediately gliding away from another volley of Cosmo Rings, Swallowman wondered how this all came to be...

Swallowman sighed as he wandered through the expanse of the Undernet. Many months ago, he had migrated to the nearly deserted internet region to explore the area. At first, he like the place, even if it was gloomy. However, as time went on, he started to tire of the now familiar surroundings. One particular day, he decided to get out of the Undernet and wander the Endo area.

"Jeez...everything has just been boring the past couple of months." Swallowman muttered as he slowly glided around the Endo Area. "I just wish SOMETHING would happen." At that moment, since he wasn't watching where he was going, he bumped into a large yellow navi. "Oof!" he let out as he tumbled to the ground.

"Watch where you're going." came the gruff voice of the navi. Swallowman got up and glared at him.

"Watch where I'm going? You're the one who's standing right in the middle of the pathway." he retorted, finding himself annoyed. The yellow navi shrugged.

"Whatever." he said before walking off. Swallowman huffed.

"What a jerk."

The next day, he was wandering Endo Area again. He didn't know why, but he wanted to find that yellow navi again. "Why am I finding myself so annoyed with him?" he asked himself. "I only bumped into him, after all...but he got me irked for some reason. Why?" He soon found himself in a large area of Endo; the odd part was that no one was in the large expanse. He was about to leave when a large yellow navi caught his eye. "There he is!"

Quickly gliding over to the navi, he stopped near him and called out to him. "Hey, you!" he yelled, successfully gaining his attention. "I want to apologize for yesterday. I guess I was just annoyed at the time..." he said while striding forward. He got a closer look at the navi, who seemed to have some kind of ring floating around his body.

The yellow navi only grunted. "Apology accepted." Swallowman found himself smiling, though he didn't know why.

"What's your name?" he asked, extending his hand. "I'm Swallowman."

The yellow navi eyed him critically for a few seconds before reluctantly shaking hands with him. "I'm Cosmoman. Pleased to meet you." Swallowman snickered quietly before attempting to make conversation.

"So, what brings you to Endo Area?" he ventured finally after a few minutes of silence. Cosmoman just glanced back at him.

"Why do you want to know?" he retorted, frowning at the bird navi. Swallowman shrugged.

"Maybe because you're a new face around here. I haven't seen someone like you around here for quite some time." he responded smoothly. Cosmoman chuckled.

"I suppose I should take that as a compliment." Swallowman chuckled as well.

For a while, they just stood there just discussing any topic that passed their minds. Everything from net-crime to current events was discussed, and Swallowman found himself surprised by the larger navi's knowledge. Eventually, Cosmoman said it was time for him to go.

"My operator is calling me." he said finally. "We'll have to continue this another time."

"How about tomorrow then?" Swallowman asked hopefully. For some reason, he found that he enjoyed talking to Cosmoman.

Cosmoman smirked. "Tomorrow then." he said before plugging out. Swallowman sighed and headed back to the Undernet.

Dodging a barrage of Cosmo Busters, Swallowman began thinking up a way to win. It wasn't getting any better, and Swallowman knew that he would eventually get hit. Grimacing, he knew what he had to do. He just hoped that it would work.

As he prepared to unleash his final attack, his mind began wandering again. This time, it wandered to the moment that he never wished to remember...

For two months now, Swallowman and Cosmoman kept up their friendship. Swallowman, to his slight dismay, found himself attracted to the large navi. He didn't know why, but he guessed that Cosmoman just made him feel good just by talking to him. He really never experienced companionship, after all. For a time, everything was peaceful.

Then Swallowman started to hear some frightening news. There was a meteor about to hit the earth, and the internet was in chaos. As the hours rolled on, he heard about some madman plotting to use the meteor for his own intentions. He was stopped, however, by a young boy and his navi. The madman, who he learned was named Dr. Regal, disappeared afterwards.

Even worse, he could not find Cosmoman anywhere. He hoped that his friend had some information on what was going down, but the large navi seemed to had disappeared off the face of the net. Swallowman was worrying for weeks on what happened, until one day...

Swallowman was just wandering around the his Undernet abode, pertrubed. He knew something bad was going to happen; he had been on edge for the past couple of days. Sure enough, his premonition came true.

The Darkloids invaded the net and took it all over, including the Undernet. Swallowman, not allowing himself to be trapped, fled to the Endo Area. Unfortunately, there was a slight problem. "A firewall?!" he said in disbelief. "When did this get here?"

"Since I put it there." a voice sounded out from the other side of the firewall. Swallowman immediately knew who it was.

"Cosmoman?" he nearly whispered, eyes wide in shock. "It can't be...you're a Darkloid?"

The large navi audibly sighed. "Yes, I am. That's the reason I've been scouring around Endo for these past few months; it was to scout out the area so I can easily take over it."

Swallowman growled. "Why? What is so important that you would give up your freedom and dignity to a group like that?"

This time, Swallowman could hear Cosmoman snort. "Dignity? Freedom? I've never had the luxury of those." he drawled. "Dr. Regal promised us a new world. I intend to help him every step of the way." The bird navi fell silent.

"I trusted you..." Swallowman finally let off, voice breaking. "I thought you were someone I could trust fully...a companion that I never had...but now..." he curled his hands into a fist, shaking from built up anger. "Goodbye Cosmoman. May we never meet again." With that, he turned away from the firewall and headed back into the Undernet.

Although Swallowman couldn't see it, Cosmoman looked like he was going to say something before he stopped himself. Looking downward, he whispered one thing.

"I'm sorry, Swallowman. If circumstances were different, then perhaps we could be together..."

For the next month, Swallowman kept to himself in the Undernet. Because the Darkloids were still occupying the internet, he couldn't go anywhere. Then, a few days ago, he recieved some news that was slightly shocking.

Cosmoman had been deleted by a team of navis liberating the net.

Although shocked, Swallowman found that he couldn't cry. Sure, he privately mourned for his former friend, but he couldn't bring himself to tears over him. It slightly troubled him.

Then the news of Nebula's fall came. Navis and programs all around the net rejoiced. Swallowman, although still mourning, cheered as well. He could finally wander again.

The next day, he decided to go look deeper in the Undernet. With nothing to do now, he could just wander freely around the net until he decided to migrate somewhere else. Sighing, he picked himself up from where he was laying on the floor and decided to head back to where he was staying. Maybe then he could decide on where to go tomorrow.

However, as he was leaving, he heard a familiar voice call out something.

"COSMO PLANET!" the voice yelled, sending out many meteors towards his direction. Swallowman, taken by surprise, was hit with some of them which sent him to the ground. When the smoke cleared, he looked up to see which adversary he was facing. His eyes widened.

"Cosmoman..."

That was how he got into his current mess. Now he was taking a huge risk with this last attack, but it was the only way to assure that he would win.

"SWALLOW GLIDE!" he yelled as he sped towards the Darkloid in his bird form. Cosmoman had no time to react as the Swallowman cut right through his side, sending him crumpling to the ground. Swallowman landed, panting harshly. He then turned around to look at his fallen adversary.

Cosmoman was slowly being deleted from his torso and onwards. Taking one quick look at his face before he was he was deleted, Swallowman found a pair of cold, expressionless eyes staring back at him. The bird navi just looked away as the rest of the data dissolved into particles.

That was the thing with ghost navi data; they didn't have the emotions or personality of their original. Swallowman knew this, yet he had to stifle a sob.

Cosmoman...he thought sadly, I wanted to tell you how much I cared for our friendship. I hoped it would evolve into something more, but it was not to be.

Letting a few tears fall down his face, Swallowman started gliding out of the area. Just the thought of Cosmoman hurt...to stay any longer would just make it all the harder to leave. Silently, he came to a decision about what to do tomorrow.

The next day, he left the Undernet for good.
