As some of you probably know, Nintendo's next console, code-named 'Revolution', was revealed at this year's E3 show. Here's what I've heard about it so far:
.It will be released sometime in 2006
.It should cost $200 to $250
.It will have built-in Wi-Fi support
.It is backward compatible with the Gamecube
.You can download NES, SNES, and N64 games for a fee
.It will be the size of 3 DVD cases stacked together
.You can expand its internal memory with an SD card
.DVD support will be sold separately

Also, you can expect to see these games around the Revolution's launch:
Super Mario 128
Metroid Prime 3
A New Legend of Zelda
A New Donkey Kong
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles 2
A New Super Smash Bros. (which will have Wi-Fi support)

And of course, here's a link to some pics of the revolution:

So fellow readers, what are your thoughts on Nintendo's newest console?

If at least 1 out of 20 kids who buy this thing can afford a Wi-Fi connection, this would be remotley interesting. The new design looks so much like a PS2..

I'm definetely excited about the new Smash Bros. I can't wait to be able to battle players from across the globe! I'd also like to see Wario and Waluigi as playable characters. Oh, and I forgot to metion, Metroid Prime 3 will be the final game in the Prime series.

If that price scares you then look up what the price for the PS3 is expected to be.

I can't wait for the new nintendo to come out!
New Smash bros will be wicked, along with the new zelda and metroid games.
PS3 destroys NR for price though, its nuts.

For savegames right? SD cards are crap for imitating RAM. :/ SD cards cannot be written upon as often as a harddisk or RAM memory. It'll fail pretty fast and you'd need to buy a new card. SD isn't that fast either.

You have to buy the DVD support? Nintendo still can't get the friggin DVD playing capabilities right. -_-

But, regardless that I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I buy these consoles by two factors: it's plausibility that it won't crap out and die in a few months (thus wasting my money), and if it has games on it that I want to play. I'd buy an X-Box in a flash if they released an MMORPG MegaMan BN game on X-Box LIVE... but even then, there's some hesitation, since there's barely anything else on an X-Box that I'd want to play (maybe DOA games).

So... since I'm one of the most hopeless SSB fanboys around, the new Smash Bros.... WITH ONLINE PLAY... has already got me hooked to the Revolution. I can't wait.

The Revolution SSB is an online game; simple as that. SSBM does not have any kind of network capabilities.

I second your SSBM fanboy statement Razz UC and I have already unlocked EVERYTHING in the game already, so we need something new ro play alread x_x

Meanwhile, there was a big article in the latest issue of Nintendo Power all about SSBM and it's success and rave around the world, plus a little hinting from HAL Labs about the new game on Revolution, and how it would indeed, as Shadow said, be [Wi-Fi] supportable. YAY FOR ONLINE PLAY ._.

That, along with the downloading feature of past Nintendo systems, is enough for me to buy BUY BUY.

SSBM was the last time I actually counted down the days until Christmas... heck, it was the last time I enjoyed Christmas at all. (But that's a different story for a different time.) My point being... SSBM is still my favorite game of all time, and I can't wait to play a third installment with my buddies around the world, specifically my old friend who acted as my only local SSB-competition, but moved away a couple of years ago.

Indeed. There was also an official SSBM tournament at Rockafeller Center in NY City a couple years ago. I only won ONE match XD

I just realized that if all of us SSBM fans here at REO get revolutions....We could play video games together? That would seriously rock.

My only real fear is that they'll leave out some characters from the previous SSB games. OK, so maybe some of the many clone characters won't bother me much (honestly, they should just keep them and give them unique moves)... but if someone like Jigglypuff is suddenly dropped, I'll throw a fit. SSBM retained all of SSB's fighters, so this Revolution SSB should retain all of SSBM's.

Hopefully they keep Marth and Zelda. I'm best with those two. Any guess' what new characters are going to be added to the new SSBM. I think they might add more metroid characters. A luminoth perhaps?

(Random note: HAL's Japanese site mentioned that they considered changing Marth and Roy for the U.S. version of SSBM since, at the time, we never had a Fire Emblem game.)

What I'd really love is for Nintendo to buy the rights from Square-Enix for characters from Super Mario RPG (specifically Mallow and Geno), or at least get a license to use them in the next SSB. Aside from that, Diddy Kong would be a welcome addition, in my opinion... and I'd like to see Ganondorf get some original moves. Pit (Kid Icarus) and Li'l Mac (Punch-Out) are apparently pretty wanted, too... and I'm a bit surprised that King Dedede or Meta-Knight haven't showed up yet. I'd also like a human trainer from Pokémon, too... Ash would be fairly recognizable, even if he was never technically "Ash" in the games. Oh, and Kiwi from that old Kiwi Kraze game on NES... though I think it was third-party. (I love that game; uber awesome theme song.) Congo from Congo's Caper would rock too (he's a caveman that turns into a monkey), but I'm pretty sure that's also third-party. =/

Anyway, I probably have some better ideas laying around somewhere, but I really haven't thought about it much lately. There's most likely a lot of new Nintendo franchises since SSBM for them to dip into to, also... a Nintendog, perhaps? Just kidding. ^_^

Maybe we should create a thread specifically for Revolution SSB discussion, though...

I'm on it. There's a lot to discuss for this game.
