Doesn't look like much effort was put into these. Just cropped screenshots, scans, maybe a bit of resizing, but not much effort. This topic can stay open if it looks like you put effort into them, otherwise, I'm locking it.

Say what?? >_>;
Mega_Lan is my best friend, and some of these icons took a couple days for her to make. The "Nyah!" one is one of my favorites ^^ If you don't like what someone has created, it's not necessary to broadcast it, right? Comments such as this are better kept to oneself... I personally think the icons are quite funny. Mega_Lan is better at creating funny captions than I am ^^;
And, oh yeah, this whole thing about closing a topic just because you feel like it...'tis a hinderance of Free Speech...Think about it, ne?

Malik is a mod. Her job is to regulate the quality of items which are displayed in this forum, and even I feel the same-these are resized screenshots with text added here and there. I could do the same with Paint and a few screens.

Free speech does not apply on forums when rules are broken. I believe even the 1st Amendment has something to say about that. :P

I don't think mods care about what age you are. :P These are not smackdowns. They are simple reminders of rules on effort. If you don't like it, please go elsewhere.

I agree, the rules apply to everyone if your 26 24 12 14 it doesn't matter the age Please follow the rules.
If you can't follow them please go elsewhere.

And the "Not every1 has Photoshop comment" isn't a good excuse there are freeware and Shareware programs that you can use to make this stuff in such as Gimp and Paint Shop Pro 3 (Which is what I use).

And as far as the Icons go what Malik said was true they look out of proportion and even if the comments on them are witty, the wittiness doesn't make up for the way Enzans face looks so stretched out.
and lastly its Rockman.Exe not Rockmon.exe

Would you feel better if I repeated what Malik has told you, CarebearMid78? :eyes: Or perhaps I am too young as well.

Please don't discriminate based on age.

Maybe somebody four years older would suffice, then? Would you have more respect for me more than Malik's? If my profile age were to be 100, would you give me the best of attentions because I am certainly more experienced in life than a 15-years-old?

Just wondering.

You're right. Not everyone has it. And as far as I know, you don't need to use Photoshop in order to get decent-made icons. I can point you to a thousand icon makers who haven't touched PS in their entire life, yet they've made some of the most beautiful 100x100 icons I've ever seen.

I believe what Malik did was, in all accounts, a fair critique. If she were to say "your icons suck, get them the hell out of the pretty forum", I would completely back you up on this. But she didn't.

This is my critique about these icons:
They need several work on them. The resizes are crappy in some cases, which can be explained by the resizing rate. Font colors do not match some icons, and difficult the reading. Other than being cropped and slapped with fonts in funky colors, these really don't look that special.

To go back to subject:

Days?

"Not every1 has Photoshop."

...please tell me I'm wrong for assuming "days in ms paint".

To be overly honest, someone who needed days to achive 5 minutes worth of effort needs to rethink the way they're working. Unless by "days", you mean "one minute per day", or something, I can absolutely not see how this took days.

You're right. Not everyone has photoshop. BUT, does that mean you need photoshop to put effort into things? Anyone can easily go to MS paint, crop, resize, and add text.

And when I last checked, age doesn't reflect maturity and responsibility.

Edit: You just HAD to post the link, didn't you Nazne? XD

The fact you're older than Malik doesn't mean she's less smart or capable of doing her duty as a moderator. We do follow rules in this place, one of each is to provide people with constructive criticism.

Age has proven to be a bad measure for maturity. At your 26 claimed years old, you're acting so immaturely as to disregard the comments of a moderator and her authority based simply in her age. That, miss, does not do a good work on showing how much up to your age you seem to be. In case you haven't looked around, this site's main population is way under the 18 years old.

Second, I am glad your friend wants to share icons, but guess what? There's plenty of software out there that is free, that isn't Photoshop and that can be easily acquired to make great icons. In fact, there's people capable of doing great works with paint alone. Making an icon to display as an artistic work is more than taking a screen shot, resize it and add text to it.

Criticism is open and encouraged in this forum. By submitting and showing off and sharing his icons here, your friend is accepting the fact someone can point flaws in her work. She didn't flame her, she wasn't rude about it, she wasn't the nicest person through her comments, but she was respectful towards her, therefor she's allowed to comment and point flaws if she sees fit.

On a following level, I remind you that we do not lock threads just because we want, there's always a reason for it. I also remind you that this forum is pretty much a private ground in the net. And your freedom of speech goes for as long as the administrator determines.

It's curious you speak about your and your friends freedom of speech, but you deny Malik her freedom of speach regarding her opinion about your friend's icons. I'd suggest to do as you preach. Finally, I suggest you to think twice before using the 'age' argument. Rules are set, they're there for everyone to read. If you don't like them, by all means feel free to avoid this section of the forum.

Just merely defending a friend...I don't mean to be rude or anything, just that...insulting someone for not conforming to a certain criteria...and shoving regulations in someone's face for defending a friend...I see that as wrong. And I stand by that belief...Nothing personal. Take Care.

With all due respect, I think they call this "moderators reminding the users about the forum's regulations wherever it's necessary". And our main admin thinks there's nothing wrong with that.

Nothing personal, either.

Should have said this in the last post.

We recognize that you're trying to defend your friend, and the situation seems to have snowballed since you registered. You'll notice that most of the issues appeared after you made your comment questioning Malik's authority based on her age. So really, don't bother trying to play the martyr card here. >.>

She didn't insult anyone. Please, realize there's a difference between pointing flaws and insulting. She said it didn't take much effort, and I am sorry, but it's not the same to tak a screen shot, resize it and add text than to crop pictures, swap them around to look different from what they originally were, and make them look differently.

It does take effort, yes, but he can learn to improve his skills for his own. We're not shoving regulations to anyone. Things are there for a reason, it would be great if we didn't need them, but we do and there's where they are. It might be wrong to you, but we serve a large group of people, and we have to be fair to EVERYONE. We can't allow one person to get away with something, or to you to get away with something just because this person is your friend.

When did this occur?
Everyone that has posted has simply told you there opinions and stated that you not disregard what was said based on a moderators age.
I personally feel that you disregarded what was said and took it as bashing because of the age of the person who stated it and like others here who are older have said she knew what she was talking about even if the icons took days to make they still could have been better.

Sharing icons is very nice of you, but like the others suggested, there doesn't seem to be very much effort. Also considering there were very few icons posted, I don't see much need for an entire thread to be devoted to it. If you would like to offer your icons to users here though, feel free to post the link in your signature.

Ending this now because I'm older than all of you (except Planty).

*edit* ....and Hub too apparantly.

*edit* ..........and CarebearMid78.
