Hello!
1. I saw this discussed on the TVTome.com Megaman: NT Warrior forum two summmers ago, but don't exactly remember the answer. In "Street Fight!", Netto unleashes the Program Advance. Enzan asks what power he had tapped into. However, in the next episode that was called "Intensive Training! Program Advance!", Chaud perfectly knows well what is and masters the technique the first time he does it. How he could he know what it was when the episode took place like a day after the previous one. Was this in the original Japanese or was it one of those screw ups in the dub?
2. Why did Brad replace Alex? Why did Alex's voice in general get replaced in his rokes (I don't get cable, but read on the net he's replaced from doing Kohaku.)? |

I don't know, but I'm PISSED. Alex was such a perfect voice for Lan, not that I don't like Brad Swaile, he's a fine actor, but Alex was just PERFECT. And yeah, his voice of Kohaku on Inuyasha was replaced by someone else. He sort of just disappeared from the world of voice acting one day...and so did Bill Switzer...and so did Brent Miller -_-+ |

I guess since this thread is still here, I'll answer your question... Chaud's line was a dubbing thing, if I recall correctly. While he is, indeed, surprised by the Program Advance in the Japanese version... it's mostly because Lan pulled it off, not because it's the first time he's seen it.
But in both versions, the entire subject of the Program Advance eventually becomes really iffy... it's deemed such a "legendary" technique that very few can control, or even activate... yet, by the end of the series, Chisao... a kid who doesn't even have a Net Navi... pulls off a perfect one with a Net Navi (GutsMan) that's not even his! To top it off, GutsMan was completely unwilling the whole time. That throws the guidelines right out the window.
Then, the moment Axess rolls around, everyone and their goldfish can use a Program Advance without any problems. So, with all of these plot-holes already alive and kicking in the Japanese version... Chaud's little dub line is greatly overshadowed.
Besides, there's much greater errors in that episode's English version than Chaud's line there... such as how Chaud tells Lan he couldn't have defeated TorchMan if the battle went on longer, but he was supposed to say SkullMan... which makes tons of sense, considering Miyu gave up against Lan, but he defeated Mr. Match fair-and-square. Then it continues into Lan expressing a rumor about Chaud's father having super-secret training techniques or something... when this plot point never existed in the original. Instead, Lan had just taunted Chaud and called him a coward, which is what stopped him in his tracks. And let's not forget the first mention of "BlazeQuest" in this episode... Chaud's father's video-gaming company that rivals Yai's father's "AyanoTech," when in the original, Chaud's father runs IPC... the Ijuin PET Company (Ijuin being Chaud's Japanese last name). _________________

The way I see it, since the Program Advance has been shown attempted on TV and stuff, more people must have gone out and tried it. Since it's a well-known thing now, it does not maintain its legend status. Much like when we started we using air planes and the like. At first they were considered to be such a shock and wonder, but now it's an everyday thing.
Can't say much about Chisao. Maybe he's just special? Or the guidelines aren't as strict as they say? Maybe I'm looking into this too much? :<>
Besides, aside from Netto, Laika and Enzan, who else has done the Program Advance? I can't really recall. XD; _________________ get out |

Wait, I remember the WWW navi's saying that Dekao's Program Advance was imperfect, so I don't think he counts. _________________

Actually, that one's for errors in the animation, not in the dialogue. _________________

If they said this in the Japanese version, and it wasn't a dub line, then I'll give you that... but even so, Netto's first Program Advance was imperfect, but he still performed a Program Advance nonetheless. If I competed in an underwater basket weaving tournament but my cross-stitching pattern was imperfect... in the end, I still competed in an underwater basket weaving tournament. _________________

They said that the Program Advance GutsMan and Dekao used was faulty. Not that they did it imperfectly, but it's just a bad one to use. D:
You know, there aren't that many that have been shown to perform the Program Advance, are there? It seems more like the cast that can do it, do it without so much drama and randomly that it's not as cool as it was before. Then we go on and think that everyone else can do it because it looks like a normal attack. :<
[spoil:46e386116e]Dark RockMan is another that did a Program Advance (Giga Cannon). Though, I figured it's like in the game, where he can copy Rock's battle chips and used PAs. Soooo, in the anime, Dark RockMan emulated RockMan's Giga Cannon like he does in the game. :O[/spoil:46e386116e] _________________ get out |
