Silent Night-ShadexBurner One-shot, General.

"I never expected it to be so quiet out here." Burnerman muttered as he trudged alongside Shademan.

It had been an exhausting day. The two Darkloids were out on reconissance when they were bombarded with hoardes of viruses. Apparently, they had stumbled into a virus nesting ground. Although the viruses weren't that strong, their huge quantities of numbers kept them busy for several hours. When they finally finished, both of them were tired and night had fallen. Both of them now had to walk back to headquarters, too tired to teleport back.

Finally, Burnerman plopped down on the ground, too tired to continue walking. "Gah! I'm too exhausted to even move!" he panted out. Shademan turned to look at him.

"Should I carry you then, princess?" he drawled out, chuckling at his lover's state. He wasn't much better himself, but he still had the energy to move around.

"Screw you." the flame navi growled. Shademan had to poke fun at his current situation, didn't he? He heard the vampire navi walk up beside him and sit down. Curious, he propped himself up to look at him. "What's wrong?"

Shademan frowned. "Nothing...it's just far too quiet out here for my tastes."

"An ambush?" Burnerman questioned curiously. If it was, then there was no way for him to defend himself. Shademan shook his head.

"Nothing of the sort...I just hate total silence, that is all."

Burnerman smirked. "Oh really? I would have thought that you were the type to enjoy it." He heard the vampire navi sigh.

"You would expect that of me, huh?" he muttered while looking at the flame navi. Burnerman tilted his head curiously. "The truth is, the total silence frightens me."

Burnerman blinked. "What?"

"I'm serious!" Shademan growled. "Ever since I've been fending for myself, I've always looked for signs of what would happen next. When everything is totally silent, I lose control of whatever I have a handle on and get paranoid. Tomorrow becomes harder to control that way...and losing total control just frightens me." he said softly. Burnerman, who had now recovered some lost energy, sat up behind Shademan and hugged him.

"I don't know why you feel that, but I guess you have your concerns." Burnerman muttered. "While you plan for the future, I live each day as it comes. That's the thing that's so different about us, and that's what attracted me to you." he said while nuzzling the vampire navi's neck. Shademan slowly turned to look at him, and Burnerman took that time to slowly kiss him.

After a few seconds, Shademan broke off the kiss as he stood up. "Thanks." he said as he smiled down at his lover. "Now, we should continue before we're attacked by another hoard of viruses." He saw Burnerman visibly shudder from the thought. Smirking, he took the flame navi's arm and helped him up. Putting the arm around his neck, he helped his lover slowly walk.

"You know, don't expect this to happen everyday." Burnerman muttered darkly as the two slowly continued their long walk to the base. Shademan smirked. Maybe silent nights weren't so bad after all.

I enjoyed it. It was short, and the fluff was...adequate. Forgive me, but for some reason I have trouble imagining this pairing....nevertheless, I still believe that the characterizations were on the spot. Good job.
