~::Spriters Lab Rules::~
Due to an abundance of people breaking rules or not reading them or understanding them, this is a new easier to follow version of the rules for this section of the forum. These rules are manditory for all those that post here, and there shall be no special treatment given to anyone that post. This means that even if you are helpful in one topic that does not mean you will be treated with knit gloves if you do something out of line yourself. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse so that means that if you make a post stating that you did not know the rules, that does not excempt you from punishment, since it is your responsibility to know, understand, and follow the rules. This applies to everything else in life so you might as well get use to it here as well.

::Spriters Lab Rules::
1. All the rules for Rockman.EXE Online Forums apply to the Spriters Lab section of the forum. There is no exception to these rules, for further information consult the rules listed as you joined or on the main site on the link to the forum.
2. If there is a problem conserning a member or a post that you feel is getting out of hand, is threatening, or is harrasment, please report it to one of the Moderators of Spriters Lab or to one of the Administrators. Do not try to handle the situation by yourself as it will often add to the problem and then not only with the person that caused the situation be in trouble but also you as well.
3. Posting a sprite you are welcoming comments on it as well as critiques on the work done. Some of these might not be what you are looking for and seem hurtful, but these are aimed to try and help you in the process of creating a sprite. If you are hurt by the comments or critques do not snap at the person or persons making the critque, that is extrememly bad manners and unprofessional. Not everyone will agree with your opinions on something and you have to learn to accept that and take it in stride.
-3.a. Do not post someone elses work, either for the person or claiming it as your own. This will be treated as a theft and will be dealt with accordingly. If you witness this please report it to one of the Moderators of Spriters Lab or to any of the Administrators. Do not try to handle the situation yourself as it can and will land you in trouble if it escalates into further conflict.
-3.b. Do not use other person's work as the base of your own custom sprite, or take other parts of others custom sprites to use on your own. This also will be considered a theft and will be dealt with accordingly. Report this to one of the Moderators of Spriters Lab or one of the Administrators, and do not try to handle the situation yourself.
-3.c. Simple recolors of sprites are not allowed as they are easy to make, such recoloring examples are coloring a regular Rockman sprite from Rockman 7 green instead of blue and calling him Greenemon or something else. These are the easiest of recolors to do and are not allowed. Doing so will result in the thread being locked or deleted, deleted threads will get a PM to the creator from one of the Moderators with a statement as to why the thread was deleted.
-3.d. Copy and paste work is not allowed if it is simply done, such as pasting Blues head onto Rockman or other body parts. Such a thing will result in the thread becoming locked or deleted. If the thread is deleted you will get a PM from one of the Moderators with a statement as to why it was.
-3.e. Complex recolors, copy and paste work, with edits are allowed if and only if they are done in such a way that they flow and mix well enough that they are seamless and are put together well. Sprites that are like this and do not follow with the previous statement will be given a warning, a lock, or deletion of thread. If the thread is deleted the creator will get a statement from one of the Moderators as to why via PM.
4. When making a comment or critique about someone's posted work, simple one word posts or singular comments such as "Wow, that is cool" or similar are not considered to be valid posts and can be considered spam. If you wish to send singular praise to someone please do so privately either by PM or using the instant messenger service or email service that the member has listed. Posting such things does nothing to really help the person making the sprite and can lead to them growing frustrated, they want you to tell them what you like about it and what you think they should improve on, that is one of the reasons they post their work.
-4.a. Do not make a post or comment that is a direct attack on someones work or them as an individual. There is such a thing as a critque and as a comment made purposely to hurt the individual. If you are doing this that will fall under the same thing as a personal attack which is against the main rules set for the forum and will be dealt with accordingly.
-4.b. If you believe that someone's work is a rip or alteration of someone elses custom made sprite or sprite work of another member or someone else online, report it to one of the moderators of Spriters Lab or to one of the Administrators. Do not try to handle the situation yourself for it will only spur further conflict amoung members and can land yourself in trouble as well.
5. Do not make a thread asking for help in creating a sprite, asking someone to make a sprite for you, or for directions to finding a sprite. This will result in a lock or deletion of the thread with a statement sent to you by one of the Moderators as to why it was. If you do wish to find sites that offer sprites a list of them is provided at the bottom of this rules list for your convenience.
-5.a. You may make a request for a sprite if a person has created a thread where they themselves are taking requests. Please see the section of the rules for Sprite Request Threads below for more details.
6. If a member wishes to make a thread in Spriters Lab where they are taking requests from others from members they must follow the rules and procedures listed here in this section.
-6.a. Member creating a request thread must get the approval of one of the Moderators of Spriters Lab to do so or that of an Administrator before setting up the thread.
-6.b. The member creating the thread must follow all of the rules set for the board and in this document of the rules for Spriters Lab. If they do not then their thread will be shut down by one of the Moderators or Administrator with a statement given via PM.
-6.c. Those making a request must wait for those requests already being taken to be completed before making their request. If they do not the thread will be locked if it has gotten sever. A PM will be sent to the creator and to the one that caused the thread to be locked with a statement as to why.
-6.d. All rules apply to the request thread that are listed for the board and for Spriters Lab.
7. If you are the creator of a thread you are allowed to double post only if you are updating the thread with a new piece of work, this update must also meet the time requirement. If your prior post is less then a few hours old, meaning one day, you are not allowed to post a new comment. Instead just edit your previous post and alter the topic, or just wait till you are allowed to post again under time requirements.
8. You are required to post using proper grammar and spelling at all times possible. This means that you are not allowed to use 1337 or other net speak, such as u, r, 2, thanx, cu, and b4, or other such letters and words in place of the actual words of you, are, to, thanks, see you, and before. If you do not follow this rule you will get a PM sent to you in warning from the Moderator or Administrator, just because you are not in class does not mean that the proper form of writting does not apply here. If you can not spell a word correctly, either due to a slight mental laps, official medical reasons, or if English is your second language then try to put as close to the spelling as you feel is correct. This is so that others will be able to understand your comments and posts.
9. Reviving a thread that is older then a month is not allowed unless you are adding something constructive to the subject. If that is not the case then the thread can be locked and the poster will be reprimanded for reviving the thread and the thread may be locked.
10. You are allowed to post sprite pictures, this are pictures that are done using the same method of spriting. These images are considered sprites, even with their large size. That is why there are such things as Sprite Backgrounds in video games.
11. Due to bandwidth issues, Rockman.exe Online Forums can no longer support web based comics and threads dedicated to them.
11.a. You are allowed to post the first page or issue of your comic and then a link to the site that you is hosting your comic in the thread. Further advertizing of a comic can only be done in your signature.
12. Due to bandwidth issues, the creation of separate threads by members to show eash individual sprite they create is not allowed. As such you will post your new sprites in one thread that you create and edit the title appropreatly to each update or added sprite. This also will be used for animated sprites, and will make it easier for others to see all of your sprite work as well and not have to search. Failure to do this will result in the other threads to be deleted and a statement sent to you by PM from one of the Moderators of Spriters Lab or an Administrator.

Not sure if a cursor would be considered a sprite really since some can be made from regular images and pictures. Depending on what quality I guess they can be. _________________

Say if you were on a vacation somewhere for a month, you didn't have access to a computer/internet and no one replied during that period. Would it be something constructive to the subject if you updated with a new sprite? It probably is, but I just wanna make sure _________________ I am Reaver.EXE from the old forums

That depends on if you are the creator of the thread since only the creator of the thread is officially allowed to post their sprites in the thread they create. This rule is taken from other things and statements made by admidstrators where some people have posted pointless or repeated something already said by another in a thread that has not been posted in for several months. _________________

If you've been ripping sprite sheets that Sprites INC. don't have as of yet, and they aren't spoilers, can they be posted?

Nazne, I believe they are allowed, as Cloud-kun (MAYBE... Might've been Zan, I'm really not sure. ^-^ or whoever once ripped the Django sprites and posted them here also, and there were no problems, I believe. ^-^ _________________ I have returned! Also known as Dyne Kiline, DyneX14, etc.

You made the skateboard yourself, didn't you? There shouldn't be anything wrong with that then. Animations of official sprites just aren't allowed because there's no work involved in creating them, but some work was involved in the skateboard, and that's all that matters. |

May I ask about the reclour rule? I made a sprite it was a difficult recolour with no edits so it contradicts the rules but shouldn't spriting not be about talent but the effort the spriter puts in to the sprite instead? People need to know how to improve before they move on to the next level of spriting the levels go like this.
Recolour> Complex Recolour> Edit> Complex Edit> Scratch Spriting
If people are new to spriting they need to learn how to improve first. |

Just to contradict you, the very first sprite I made was completely from scratch. It sucked like nobody's business, but I gradually got better from there. You don't need recolours to help you move up to good scratch spriting, in fact I've always been under the impression that recolours just do more harm to your skills than good. And if you're actually putting a lot of work into a recolour then that just means you don't know how to use the eye-dropper tool in Paint and/or right-click with the eraser tool. Unless you have no idea how those tools work, any recolour can be done in minutes with a few waves of the hand and clicks of the button.
But more importantly than that, this place is much more a gallery to display what you're proud of than a help forum on how to get better. Nobody wants to see crappy unimaginitive recolours when they could be looking at better stuff. So if your only reason for posting a recolour is to get tips on how to get better, then don't bother because the first tip you're going to get is "do something better than recolours." |

In that case, try PMing someone who has established themself as a decent spriter and PRIVATELY show stuff to them and ask for help on how to improve.
I, for example, would never post my recolor stuff here because I know nobody cares, and when I wanted to improve, I started talking to MSP, and he's been giving me pointers here and there.
Becoming an awesome spriter takes a lot of hard work and dilligence, but more than that, you need the proper tools, and you need to know how to manipulate them. I suggest that anyone who wants to seriously sprite should first take a course in Photoshop or Fireworks. _________________

Sorry to say, Blast, but give it up, pleas. Everybody but you can stand the recolor rule. If you can't accept it, post your sprites elsewhere where there are no spriting rules...
Let people drool on your recolors... _________________ I have returned! Also known as Dyne Kiline, DyneX14, etc.

Aside from that, asking for help on this forum is almost a request. As a matter of fact, I'd say it falls dangerously close to being one.
At which point you'd have every Tom, Dick and Supersaiajin232432432 saying "Here's m4 sprite, soembuddy helpzor, plz"...
Which nobody really wants to deal with. _________________

Some of you hit that thing right on the head. Blast, if you need help you could ask someone from the forum like has been suggested. I myself have gotten emails, PMs, and IM's from others that needed help with things and I am more then willing to help if asked nicely to with something. Unfortunately I will be unavailable for a few weeks to help since I am about to move to another state, but there are others here that you could seek help from if need be privately.
I'm sorry that you don't like that one rule that I drafted, but it is something that was and is still needed since at the start of this section it was filled with some poorly done recolors and edits. With the rules it cleaned things up and pressed others to improve. |

Yes, those are okay. I posted something similar not to long ago, and have made posts of animations using offical sprites. I don't see anything wrong with posting them. _________________
