Help with Carnage in Ultimate Spiderman DS!

It's during the mission "Sibling Rivalry." I'm playing as Venom and am fighting Carnage. However, the problem is that whenever I whittle his life bar until there's only one block left, I can't seem to damage him any further, even though he reacts to all of Venom's attacks. What do I do now?

Oh, and to you Ultimate Spiderman aficionados, don't ask me how Carnage came back to life. It's explained in the game. >>
