Coffee Addict
It took Chaud a few seconds to realise that he had stopped typing and his nose was centimetres away from colliding with the keyboard. He jerked upwards quickly, before turning to grouch at the red navi by his side for not waking him up, and then remembered that Protoman was receiving a check-up at Scilabs and wouldn’t return till the morning.
It was at this point of the night that he began to fear for his sanity.
Like a person who has been lost in the desert and been given their first cup of water for days, Chaud grasped the cup of dark liquid by his side (was it his 7th or 8th cup? He lost count around number 5) and took a few deep gulps. That was better. The room came back into focus and after a sudden yawn he forced himself to look at the computer screen again.
Well, the first three pages were presentable, but the next page looked as though a demented mouse had managed to do the can-can on his keyboard. With a martyred sigh, he held down backspace until his typing became legible again, and reached for his ever faithful companion, coffee.
Sipping the hot drink, he found himself reflecting on his birthday a few weeks ago. He thought that he had managed to keep his coffee addiction a secret, but it appeared that Lan had actually noticed something for once and sent him a present which consisted of a disk which contained hundreds of quotes about coffee and a voucher for the local coffee shop. Chaud had given Lan a rather grudging thank you then spent the voucher the very next day. After making sure Lan was nowhere near of course. His reputation and a strong urge to not encourage Lan’s ego made it essential that Lan didn’t know Chaud had enjoyed his present.
Chaud smirked quietly in the darkness then realised he had finished his coffee. Drat . . . he dragged himself out of his chair and out of the door towards the drinks machine. Note to self, must install coffee machine in office . . .
After a few minutes of Chaud’s absence, his computer screen switched to screen-saver and Chaud’s favourite quote filled the screen.
“When the going gets tough, the tough drink coffee.”
I have no idea if that was actually a quote or not but I randomly thought of it so now it is. _________________ My mind works like lightning - one brilliant flash and its gone. |
